Town Square is my new favourite place to eat. I attended a Yelp event here and I have been back a few times now. The food is very reasonably priced but also delicious. The staff are friendly and attentive. I love the décor - it's minimal but quite stylish. The only negative thing I have to say is that they don't serve cocktails until after 5pm... don't judge... it was Friday lunch time... but I was able to order a glass of wine so I can't really complain! A full five stars for Town Square!

The nachos-Very little toppings and almost half of the chips were just the bottom of the bag. Totally not cool!

The staff was very friendly and helpful, but unfortunately it ended there. We stopped here due to our first choice being closed; it appeared clean from the outside, but we were wrong. The bathrooms were sub-par, and the Guinness was served warm and in a dirty glass. The food highly lacked favor.

I love Town Square, it's a wonderfully bohemian and stylish restaurant with great service, delicious food, fabulous cocktails, reasonable prices and a relaxed ambience. I've dined here on a few occasions and find it great for indulgent three course meals, leisurely lunches or relaxed coffees and breakfasts. Décor is warm, modern and bright with wooden shelving, tables, chairs, exposed light bulbs and a scattering of armchairs and sofas. My favourite dishes to date are the: Portobello mushroom, pesto, holloumi and roast red pepper burger. Wild mushroom, leek and cream ribbon pasta. Feta, olive, sundried tomato, pine nut and spinach pasta. Rhubarb and ginger crumble. Town Square also host Movie Mondays so you can relax with food and drink whilst watching a film. Plus art events such as The Loft Studio 'Drink and Draw' evenings are held here as well as coffee tasting and Jazz nights. Currently this is one of my favourite haunts in Belfast and I would highly recommend it. A fabulous place which really brightens up Botanic Avenue.

Ok I was out at Town Square last night for a wee meal after the Elite Secret Supper. (I'll not review a place until I have been separate from an event) I ordered the mushroom and Haloumi burger and she ordered the chicken. I'll be honest I was a little disappointed. The burger was more like a mushroom, pepper and haloumi sandwich in a brioche style bun. It was tasty but it wasn't really what I'd class as a burger. My friends chicken while delicious, again was just missing something. It wasn't like the chicken we were served at the Secret Supper. It looked a little dry and lonely. I was also very disappointed at the lack of sides with the choices. The 'burger' came with a small bowl of salad and the chicken came with salad too. When we had the chicken it came with a pesto mash and wilted spinach which was delicious. As the waitress didn't give us a heads up about no proper sides I was left a bit hungry. Desert was a salt caramel choc brownie and coffee which was great (Though a tiny jug of pouring cream would have finished it perfectly) Overall it was a good experience but not as good as the event. Staff were friendly, if not overly attentive and disappointment with sides (I'd pay a few quid more for some to be included or at least have a heads up to order them) Its a great venue and tasty foods but they need to bring some of the shine and attention to detail from the event to up this to a 5 star review.

Belfast has numerous cafes and bars with new ones popping up every week. I recently visited Town Square and was really impressed with its unique setup. Outside the entrance there's a street piano for the musically talented or wannabe Beethovens. When I arrived a passing hen party were bashing the poor keys causing a right racket but they were having great craic and this quirky idea really brightens up the street and brings some fun to Botanic. Inside Town Square is an airy modern coffee shop/ restaurant filled with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee. The interior is a mixture of wood, cork and stylish leather seats. This is an excellent place for people watching as the window seats are low down at Street level. I really found myself daydreaming looking out the windows whilst sipping my iced latte. The coffee is bold and strong served in stylish glassware on top of wooden boards. They have various roasts and brewing methods including nitro coffee and the trusty aeropress. They also stock beautiful mini cakes and desserts and have a food menu for something more filling. I chose a lemon and almond cake which was tangy and fresh and a perfect accompaniment to my coffee. I really loved their quirky menus -these are handmade booklets with spare blank pages for you to write your favourite quotes, sketch, declare your undying love for that special someone, advertise your new product or even your mates mobile number to blag them a date (or many unwanted phone calls!) Even if you don't put pen to paper the booklets are fun to flick through. You should also check out their toilets...which are vibrant and covered in buttons and shoes! I'll definitely visit Town Square again for a break from the normal bland coffee chain shops.

Soup of the day (carrot) served with bread & butter.

Came in here for a light & late lunch with a large group of friends. Found seating right away for all ten of us, which is remarkable anywhere! This was my first dining experience outside of the states. I heard plenty about the soup from my friends who visited Belfast before me. Since I was looking for something light I ordered just that, the soup of the day. It was carrot and it was pretty good. Not my favorite texture but it was fine. The Guinness bread that came with it was my favorite part of the meal! Moist with a delightful taste with just a bit of butter added. I also had a latte which was served beautifully and tasted just as great with some added pure sugar. I loved the atmosphere in this place and would definitely spend some time here if I ever get the chance to come back!

4 words - Nitro coffee on tap!! Called in here for the first time this afternoon for a coffee and little sweet treat after seeing great reviews. Immediately impressed by the design & decor. Very rustic with warm lighting using little filament bulbs. Got seated and was provided with a little menu booklet which was more than your average. It was like a little scrapbook with the menu in the middle and the pages surrounding it had random drawings & deep statements by previous customers. Was interesting to browse through whilst waiting on your order:) So I was very excited to try their new cold nitro coffee from the tap/draught as I'm biggg coffee fan. Unfortunately they had run out! Instead I settled for a cortado which was served as 2 mini cortados on a serving board (see the images below). They were great along side a white chocolate & raspberry mini loaf. Apart from coffee, they have a nice selection of craft beers and other food options too, all very reasonably priced. I'll definitely be returning soon to try the nitro brew!

Had an amazing first trip here tonight and I can definitely say it won't be my last, it was brilliant. The resteraunt was quirky and the atmosphere was electric. There was background music playing and a lovely bustle about the place. The food was delicious. We had the cauliflower and truffle oil soup, followed by the chicken dish and rhubarb crumble dessert. It was all cooked to perfection and was piping hot which considering there were so many of us being served at the exact same time was fabulous. Last but no means least...the staff...they were the cheeriest, most friendly waiting staff I have ever experienced. They were so genuinely nice and helpful. There were plenty of them too. Can't wait to go back here again some time soon. Loved it :)

Great facade!

Town Square is situated on Botanic Avenue (just across the road from the Empire) , formerly Metro restaurant. The new owner relaunched the restaurant as Town Square at the end of last year, with the help of one of the guys behind Belfast coffee house, Established. (So, I expected it to have that cool, laid-back feel about it that Established is known for.) We arrived at about 6.45pm and were quickly served our first course, Cauliflower soup with truffle oil served with homemade Guinness wheaten. The soup was thick and creamy; the sort of comforting soup you want on a cold, miserable day. And the wheaten...well, I'd go back for that alone! I don't drink Guinness but that was delicious! It wasn't long before our plates were cleared and we were served our second course of the night- Chicken supreme with mozzarella and sun dried tomatoes served with basil mash and rosemary jus. Again, great flavours, particularly the slightly saltiness of the sun-dried tomatoes contrasting with the sweetness of the basil. Finally, we were treated to a third course- the classic rhubarb and custard! OK, it was rhubarb and ginger custard served with creme anglaise (a bit posher!) but again, it was that comforting, home-cooked feeling I got from the first two courses. The rhubarb was tart but mixed with the crumble and the creme anglaise made for a nice finish. I couldn't fault the service- the staff were attentive, speedy and friendly. Drinks were over within minutes and answered all my (many) questions about the food. The restaurant has that laid-back "coffee culture" feel I was expecting- in fact, they even have a Monday night Cinema Club and Tuesday night Coffee Club! How cool! The prices are very reasonable (£3.50 for the soup, £6 for the chicken main, £5.50 for the rhubard crumble.) Once people start to get the vibe of this place, I think it will do very well!

Beef and caramelised onion, toasted sourdough sandwich.

Pretty nice hipster restaurant, with all you would expect from the word hipster. Wood everywhere; those light bulbs with the massive filament; craft beers and great food. Staff are really friendly and advised us on their selection of ales. I have been here for lunch only. I got a steak and caramelised onion, toasted sourdough sandwich. It was pretty damn tasty. I would guess this place is great for dinner and can't wait to come back to try it again. Maybe notch it up to 5 stars after the next visit. Gutted I missed the Yelp secret supper here a few months ago. I'm sure it would have been a great night!

Last night was my first visit to Town Square. Really easy to get to, directly opposite Botanic Station makes it so handy. The venue looks stunning inside and out, huge windows and the most stunning, quirky interior! Our starter was brought quickly and it was Cauliflower soup with truffle oil, served with some beautiful Guinness bread. The soup was without question, one of the tastiest soups I have ever tasted! I'm generally not a massive fan of cauliflower, but this was to die for, I could have eaten it all over again! For a main course I was served chicken with sundried tomatoes, champ, and a rosemary jus. The chicken was cooked to perfection and amazing, the dish was beautifully put together and tasted fantastic. Last but not least, we had rhubarb crumble with creme angelaise, again, delicious and the perfect dish to round off a wonderful meal. The lady who served us was really friendly and informative. As a treat afterwards, Town Square were showing a movie - Grand Hotel Budapest. Unfortunately I wasn't able to stay for the whole film, but it was great watching it in such a lovely setting. Town Square has a real buzz about it and I can't wait to spread the word and return!

I hadn't noticed that this venue was taken over and given a completely new image. I was really impressed, the decor is rustic and stylish with comfortable seating if you just fancy a coffee and catchup with friends. It has a lovely friendly feel where you could sit with some food and check your emails and do some work without being moved on for the next customers to push in. Towards the back has more tables for dining in an ambient atmosphere. The fixtures and fittings throughout are modern and interesting. The staff were very attentive even though it was a full house plus a queue at the door. The food was excellent, generous portions and served quickly. The Guinness and chocolate wheaten was wonderful. They have a free coffee tasting every Tuesday evening where you can blind taste coffee against Starbucks so see which you prefer. Monday nights are movie night, free viewings while you relax with popcorn and beer or a coffee and cake. Hard to beat.

Great night out with the elite crew ... Dinner was fantastic and the venue was really great as well. We had cauliflower soup with truffle oil and Guinness wheaten to start which was my favourite course :) The main was chicken stuffed with mozzarella on a bed of mash and jus which was delicious! Dessert was rhubarb and ginger crumble with custard and was amazing but I was so stuffed I couldn't finish it. Would highly recommend a visit to town square ... Botanic is a lovely area and the restaurant is a credit to it !

Delicious tiramisu, noms!

The Tap House is a tiny little bar which is decorated is tonnes of kitch little pictures, pop art and football memorabilia. The bar provides a relaxed atmosphere which to enjoy a drink in interesting and comfortable surroundings. The pool table is almost vintage compared to the usual pool tables in pubs. It has leather pockets and stands on awesomely carved legs (maybe I like this table a little to much). There's no charge, all there is to do is hope its free and enjoy a game. In terms of cost, a pint is around £3.10 which is reasonable for Belfast (sadly!) and food is served until 8pm. The Tap House proudly sports a Taste of Ulster plague on its walls so you can be confident the food is locally sourced.

As other reviewers have mentioned, this bar is unfortunately associated with Scratch Nightclub, but this place couldn't be further from it. It has a lovely look and I love the decorations and the entire vibe of the place. The prices are excellent if you are going in for a bite to eat and a pint as you get a free drink with any main meal served. Its such good value you will wonder if they have under charged you but it really is that good. The pool table is a good addition as it allows a bit of banter and gets the conversation going, as does the dartboard. Not many people know about this place, despite its brilliant location just off Botanic Avenue, so there is always a seat and a nice, laid back atmosphere.

It does not take a genius to work out Scratch has been designed for students to get drunk and get with each other. The music is current, with Cool FM (Belfast radio station) often having DJ's playing at it. The door tax plus the clientele do not make this the sort of place that will appeal to everyone but its proximity to the student area known as the Holylands make this an obvious choice for many students and drinkers alike. Offers do apply to Scratch, with £2 a bottle of beer and £4 for double vodka and Red Bull. Doors open at 9pm. The food downstairs is actually very nice, with burgers being my personal choice. As there are offers on during the day, this can make for quite a pleasant experience. Downstairs also comes complete with pool table which is always a good thing. This night club may not and does not necessarily appeal to everyone and bar staff tend to be quite slow to serve. Though if you do just want a club to go to then make your way to Scratch. Do not expect too much.

All the dishes were great, and are definitely hearty. The stew as well as the pie filling had a rich roux - nice, thick and flavorful.
