This would probably be my favourite bar in Belfast. I'm not quite the party animal I used to be back in the olden days, but I do like a night out from time to time, and Katy's is right up our street in terms of the crowd that go there, the music they play, and the general ambiance. They are in a handy city centre position and can be easily reached from anywhere in the city centre. If you're not drinking, there is parking right out the front (if you get there early enough!) if not there are plenty of side streets too! For weekend visiting, be sure to get there before 7-ish, or you may find that you won't get a seat, although it does calm down later on in the night when the Limelight opens and some of the patrons move next door to the club. I have travelled a fair bit in my time. Unkind people tend to put it as I've been around a bit, but I prefer to think of it as romantic wanderlust. Anyway, apart from the wonderful Public Bar in Melbourne, and possibly Dubliners in Tokyo (actually no, their Guinness is questionable and their 'soda bread' is in fact wheaten), Katy Daly's is my all time favourite bar in the world. This says quite a lot if, like me, you fled screaming from these shores at the first possible opportunity and spent several years abroad. But I've come to realise on my frequent returns, to sign on, that Belfast is actually quite a cool wee city. And Katy Daly's is one of the main experiences for me that encompasses that vibe. Imagine my shame and horror last year in Australia when one of the lead items on the news was the spides in the Village burning the Roma population out of the area. And when any July overseas the pictures beamed in from Belfast are of riots, bottle-throwing spides and triumphalist sweaty-faced Orangemen doing their damnedest to make sure no-one can get down the Lisburn Road. 'Belfast isn't like that!' I'd wail to anyone who'd listen, and plenty who wouldn't. 'Look at Katy's for example!' A rock bar with great music both live and on the jukebox, an unpretentious and friendly crowd, the best pub quiz I've ever been to (yes, even better than Melbourne's), friendly staff who remember your usual (ahem), and good food at good prices, makes Katy's a must visit for any tourist who thinks Belfast is all burning buses and bodhráns. Oh, and most unusually, and welcome, for an average city bar - the ladies are normally outnumbered by the men. Most of whom are of an alternative ilk and not decked out in Ben Sherman and Timberlands, and therefore are generally gentlemanly instead of trying to cop a quick grope as you go past them on the way to the loos (Bot, I'm looking at you). Katy's is attached to the limelight and at times when there is a concert in next door the vibrations and sounds can come into the bar leaving you wondering what the hell is going on. In itself it is a lovely traditional style pub which favours the red leather seats that seem to be everywhere at the moment. I was here in a Saturday night around 7-8pm and it was very quiet, I don't know if it picks up or not later on by I thought that unusual. I don't want to think about the money I've given this important spot in Belfast's cultural history over the years. You could probably buy a small to medium sized family saloon, and I regret none of it. In my mis-spent youth you could probably find me hear most of the weekend, and while the passing of time means I can't do two nights in a row any more, if one of those nights is in Katy's it'll be a good one. Nestled between two live music/disco venues, Katy's is a cosy, sort of old school music bar. There is always something going on, and while the crowd may have got younger, us old timers who cut our teeth here are totally welcome. It is the sort of place for trainers and jeans or posh frocks and fake eyelashes, basically, all are welcome. Love this place. Just love it. It's one of the few bars that I went to when I was 18, and still go to now. Definitely one for the music scene, the bar hosts small gigs (very small, the stage area is about 5 foot square!) featuring local artist and up-and-comers. It also hosts, in my opinion, the best pub quiz in Belfast! The best thing about Katy's is the atmosphere. It's relaxed, but also dynamic. I think this is due to the crowd it attracts. You get a lot of interesting people there, not just plastics, and they're generally all really nice! Now, it's not the shiniest bar (sometimes I think I could do wonders with a bottle of Ajax in the place!), and I remember someone telling me that it got no stars in the Scores on the Doors scheme (NI-wide food rating scheme). I've never eaten there, so it might have been a lie and the food's lovely - I wouldn't know! The company that owns it also recently announced that it has gone into administration. I'm no accountant, but to my mind, if everyone in Belfast calls in for few in Katy's, they'll be out of financial danger in no time, so go on - do your part! read more

This is a small pub with plenty of character and you can easily tell that the people working their enjoy what they do. It is sandwiched between the 'Spring and Airbrake' and 'Limelight' both pretty good venue in their own right. On some nights you can venture through from one into the other leaving Katy Dalys as a little bit of a traffic zone. i have been to its pub quiz on a monday night a couple of times, it was good fun but we didn't even come anywhere close to winning. Take a journey down on a friday night and hear some open mic talent. It is a little dark inside during the daytime and they have some screens to show some football games on. I'd been in Belfast for 3 days and only came into this place on the last night, which is a pity since it's exactly the sort of place I like. A mixture of old, wooden pub decor and rock/metal music. It's customers reflect that. If you're a rock fan, this is the pub for you. Drinks are reasonably priced with a special deal at certain times, 4 drinks for £10. The only downside when I was there was the temperature. I'm not sure if it was normal, but the short space of time I was on there felt like a sauna. In fact it was so bad that I had to abandon a pint of black gold and seek a cooler venue. But this is only a minor quibble. The pub is good. This is the middle of the 'Limelight' complex and I've stumbled into it so many times without meaning to. Perhaps that reflects more on me than on Katy Daly's. Hmm... Anyways my first night out with my class mates was meant to go off with a bang but so many people didn't go that we just went to Katy Daly's for a pint and that began my love affair with this quaint little place. It's a shame its not located closer because in the winter time, walking this far from halls means that any alcohol that was in your system is long gone. I will be back here again because it is a wonderful little spot. I've done everything here from watching football, listening to live music and just having a quiet pint. One of the few places in Belfast I would recommend to anyone of any age group. read more

The more chilled out of the three venues in the Limelight process, much more of a pub than a club but I think that adds to its appeal and fun. Much more laid back and this is reflected in the clientelle who are of all ages and seem to all have a good time. The place is more of a start off point for a night out, unless its during the week for a bit of live music and the excellent pub quiz. You can get a good pint of guiness and there is a decent enough selection of other pints and spirits. In some ways I kind of wish this pub wasn't involved with the Limelight but that kind of makes it better. I've enjoyed so many pre-gig pints in here I've lost count. And the music on the juke box is always good which reflects on the clientelle as well as the juke box itself. A bit of a Belfast gem, well worth a look for a big session, a quick pint, a pub lunch or a pre-gig tipple. read more

Katy daly's is by far one of Belfast's best! The bar is really traditional and hasn't changed in years giving it that lived in feeling that it will hold for many more years to come. Its warm, cosy and the kind of place you'd love to go on Christmas eve for a few quiet ones. Katy's also serves food- burgers etc and though I've never eaten here it does look good! We love coming here in the early evening for afew drinks and normally end up coming out in the early moring...oops. But the atmosphere really grabs hold of you and you never want to leave! Katy Daly's was a bar I'd heard good things about before moving to Belfast. Indeed I had a pint here in 2004 or thereabouts after winning a competition in The Irish News to see The White Stripes play in Botanic gardens. When I moved to Belfast this year, I made it one of the first bars I visited. It is a great bar with a great laid back and fun vibe. It definitely seems like one of the top spots in Belfast to hit before a night out. Last time I was in, it did seem to have a bit more of a hard/classic rock vibe going on than I'd remembered (I thought it was more of an indie bar) and my friend and I were the only ones in girly dresses. Everyone we spoke to was really friendly and they all seemed up for a bit of craic. I've never been to a gig here, but I have heard really good things and hope to check one out soon. Definately a pub that appeals to many age groups. I'm living proof as I'm not part of the studenty, gig going league that draws most of the numbers to Katy Daly's but for me KD is still a good place for a relaxing drink. It's very friendly, happily I haven't experienced those What Are You Doing in Here looks in here. There was a time when they did 2 for 1 lunches on Mondays - good food and a good way to ease into the week. Recently the company that owns this bar and some other gems has gone into administration and I just really hope that somehow Katy Dalys, out of them all stays. It has a very chilled out atmosphere and the crowd are always cheerful and dedicated to the cause that is Katy Dalys. By far the best time to go in on a Monday night, which is quiz night. It's by far the best quiz in Belfast without a doubt. There's lots of crowd interaction from card games to bingo (which I love a little to much!) to the first bra to the desk wins a pint. Its outside tables cater for smokers or drinkers who want to enjoy the warmer weather. While indoors, a cosy interior and tucked away corners allow for time to 'mull' over a drink or to snuggle up to that special someone. Katy Daly's falls in the middle between The Limelight and Spring and Airbreak, some see it as a walk through option to either club, others a resting place for high heeled girls and danced-out fellows. If you fancy a good night out, Tuesday proves popular with students as plenty of drink promotions are available. Though my top tip is to pop down to the pub quiz held on a Monday night, it always offers heaps of fun in the form of the half time bingo and spot prizes. Probably my favourite bar in Belfast, this dinky watering hole is one of those bars you don't find very often and I'm firmly of the belief only Belfast could breed it. From the outside it looks nothing special but inside is a different story. For all the specials and entertainment and quizzes and open mic nights I'd have to say the best thing about here is the people that work here and the people that frequent it. If anyone asks me where to visit in Belfast I always suggest Katy's and tell them to chat to the locals. Fantastic bar for any one who likes a bit of rock and metal every saturday they have local unsigned bands playing here and its only 2 pound to get in! some of the bands are extremely talented and needless to say its well worth the entry fee. Another added benefit of kate dalys is its location its surrounded by other bars such as the limelight and spring and air break along with dozens of other bars on the dublin road so great location for a night out. Katy Daly's is like the coolest bar EVER! It's the kind of place you turn up to in jeans, t-shirt and skate shoes. Frequented by the city's metallers and 'goths' and general long haired men type,, it's a great place to sit and have a few drinks and a laugh with mates. It's relaxed, service is good and it has a unique stale beer smell that can only smell good in Katie's. It's a slightly trendier version of your typical Irish pub only without the old men sitting about smoking pipes. The music tends to be hard rock and metal but even if you're not into that stuff, it's still a fun atmosphere. The owners of Katy's, CDC Leisure, recently went into administration and I just hope that that does not spell the end for her. read more

This place is the cream of Belfast pubs - back in my younger days before the piercings and long hair had to be removed in the name gainful employment, I attended Katy's 5 nights a week. The pub quiz is unlike any you have been to before, it is one of the best nights in the city centre, it seems almost impossible not to at least win a pint and a packet of Katy's famous Scampi Fries. If you don't have anything pressing on the old Wednesday morning schedule then Katy's joins up with her big sisters next door The Limelight and Spring and Airbrake on a Tuesday for the biggest and best student night in Belfast. Cheap drinks a plenty with 3 rooms catering for 3 different styles of music. Katy's complex also has more gigs taking place than you can shake a very big drum stick at, from local singer/songwriters that you don't know to famous international acts that you do. If you want a chilled out Sunday night or a very loud, headbanging metal-fest on a Saturday afternoon this pub has something for everyone. read more

Fantastic bar that sits between 2 great music venues. Never had a bad night here, always been great atmosphere. Even on nights out where we hadn't planned on ending up there, we still often end up there when we get sick of the pretentiousness of other venues. Although I'm nearing the end of the 20s and starting to notice the clientele get younger, I've never felt unwelcome. Door staff do a great job, as while there is no form of 'dress code', there are never troublemakers. Usual array of drinks on offer, occasional drinks offers, and some bottled ales behind the bar. Prices are average for Belfast bars. The decor could be described as traditional, with vintage brewery and cigarette memorabilia adorning the walls, and a traditional glass chandelier. Getting a seat outside can be nice on a summers evening, watching the traffic drive by, albeit a little smoky. read more

Went here recently to see a colleague of mine play at a live mic night - he was really good! But that's beside the point. I'd never been in Katy Daly's before, another bar that I didn't notch on my list when I was a student - I think because I was more of a pop kind of girl at that age, rather than appreciating the more edgy/folksy/rocky music that they have on offer in Katys. It's part of the larger venue known as The Limelight, which also has Spring and Airbrake next door, so there is a choice of which bar to go to. It's got a very welcoming Belfast atmosphere, and it's good for the single girls (depending on the type of man you like) as there seemed to be quite a large amount of men there compared to women, the night I went, anyway! They pour a good pint here, and I'm told the food is good - although I will have to go back to try it out...all in the name of Yelp Research! read more
