My husband and I usually go out to eat on Saturday night, but today we had errands to run in the morning and felt like being home. We ordered from Thip's, not expecting much, and went to go pick it up. We were pleasantly surprised when we walked in because the restaurant is very clean and cute inside. It wasn't busy, and as soon as we walked in, someone came to greet us and asked how she could help. She told us our food would be right out. Two minutes later, she came out with our order and thanked us. When we got home, we ate the hot food, and it was delicious. I got the sweet and sour tofu with fried rice and my husband got General Tsou's chicken. The level of spice was just right on both orders. I have found myself coming here multiple times for lunch. Located in O'Fallon, IL this restaurant is wonderful. Friendly staff, great service & tasty dishes. I recommend coming for their lunch special, which includes a house soup, entree of your choosing, and a spring roll all for $12.99. The soup is flavorful and light, a perfect start to a meal. I typically go for the vegetable Pad Thai extra veggies at spice level 2 add a side of white rice. So many great options to choose from on this menu as well as their separate dinner menu. Had very few veggies (it was a substitution for a protein) and they are pre cooked or over cooked as they were mushy and bland. They were obviously NOT freshly stir fried as I would expect. Thip's has pretty decent Thai food with lots of great menu options. We ordered Spring Rolls as an appetizer, and they were very average-- nothing extraordinary. I ordered the Basil Herb Fried Rice with Veggies, and it was delicious. The basil flavor was super strong, which was personally a nice alternative to classic fried rice. The restaurant was relatively clean. There were only about two other full tables while we were there, so it was extremely quiet inside the restaurant throughout the meal. There were two employees working on the front end. Although they weren't exactly warm and friendly, they did a good job at providing attentive service to make sure we had everything we needed. Their lunch menu is pretty extensive, and there are lots of options for every dish. Additions and substitutions are available-various proteins, rice, vegetables, spice level, and so on. Beef pad thai wasn't quite what I expected as the meat wasn't "velveted" or marinated in baking soda beforehand so it tasted very hard and chewy. That made me avoid eating it all together so I essentially had a veggie pad Thai consisting of noodles and bean sprouts along with some crushed peanuts. Hubby had pad kee ewe which he ordered as a spice lvl of 7. The beef was better but again not velveted. We both thought the portions of both of our dishes were not generous. We have eaten our fair share of Thai food including the real food in Thailand so we're well aware of what it should taste like and while the spice levels were perfect there's room for improvement. read more

The service here was really good. I visited in a large group so we pretty much took up the whole left side lol. They have a lunch menu which I would assume serves smaller portions. I ordered General Tso's Chicken & it looked like pig slop!!! Super soggy & wet. Tasted spoiled & sour!!! My husband & I called up there to get the issue resolved twice. The manager refused to talk on the phone or provide any resolution at all. The female hostess that answered the phone was a total snob & a c××nt b××ch!!! She hung up the phone multiple times on us!!! The thai tea was not sweet at all, and I wish the rangoons had more cheese in it.The chicken satay was good though.The spice level for the dishes were 0-4 I believe. We asked for a 0 for my panang curry, but it was more like 1 or more.As a person who doesn't like or handle spicy food, you can tell it was spicy.I could handle it, but I preferred no spice at all.Also, I didn't like that the panang curry was sweet.I've had it many times in other restaurants and never had it sweet or that sweet.It had a very strong sweet taste. We love the food and usually ask for heat level 2-3 (be careful if you are timid - 4 is HOT and 5 may send you to the ER - lol). Very disappointed! First let me say that my team I and have our lunch here at least once a week. Today I decided to try something different on the menu. Pad Thai with chicken. When it arrived it looked very good however after taking one bite it was to sweet and I did not care for the taste. I asked the waitress if I could substitute with what I normally order. She stated that if I wanted something else i would have to purchase another meal. Then walked away and did not return. Mind you I only had one bite. I had to flag down another waitress to get another meal. When I received the bill they charged me for both meals. This is unacceptable and I was very disappointed. Usually pad thai is my go to for Thai food, but I was feeling curry, so I picked up a green curry for lunch. I am by no means a curry connoisseur, I've only had it a hand full of times, but I really loved it! The flavors were so great. It came with chicken and white rice, and also two crab rangoon. Located in a small strip right off highway 50, Thips is Informal, cheap and yummy!! They have a location in Belleville too. All of their curries rock! Pineapple curry with Shrimp is yum and so is the Pad Thai and yellow curry. You can never go wrong with Tom ka soup, but it is especially good here. I love Thai food! Thip's is okay. But with all the wonderful Thai joints in St. Louis, Thip's is hardly worth the time and travel. The menu contains all the standards. Portions have shrank over the years. Probably the result of the economy and inflation. Most of the specialty dishes (Pad Thai, Pad Kee Mao, etc), can be made with chicken, beef, or shrimp. Unfortunately, all of the plate seem to lack much of any! Even their Thai Beef Salad has gone downhill! The only thing at Thip's that I do still enjoy, is their Thai Ice Tea. Just not the same place it was four years ago. Really quite disappointing, because a number of years ago, Thip's was THE place to go in the metro-east for Thai food. My one complaint is that the menu said there were peanuts in it, but there were not. When I asked, she said it was an old menu.
