Not my first visit here. I used to love sitting in the dining area but Covid changed the whole dynamic and it's carry out only now. As frustrating as that is, the establishment easily earns a full 5 stars. I don't think my order has ever been incorrect regardless of how I've gotten it. So the service is spot on. Coming up on a decade of enjoying Samran's sushi. This place has changed a bit since I started coming here. There's currently no longer any indoor dining; it's been carry out only since the pandemic. The quality of the food has stayed the same though, and I absolutely love the sushi offerings here. I recommend the north Illinois maki! They have excellent yellowtail nigiri too. read more

This is my Go To for sushi. Fresh and prepared with precision and pride. The flavors are always perfectly balanced. Samran does a beautiful job with the sushi and sashimi. My friends have always loved the Thai options as well. Even the ones from the coast who were skeptical about Midwestern sushi. Vegan choices are available I am an infrequent customer, but the owner knows my order as soon as she sees me. That makes me feel valued nicely valued. I am so pleasantly surprised by this place. I've passed by multiple times and thought it was weird that they would serve both sushi and Thai food. Being from Okinawa, sushi is a staple in my world. I was shocked to find the ahi (tuna) very fresh and vibrantly red colored. The salmon on the other hand was on the verge of going bad in about 2-3 days. I recommend sushi that has ahi for the quality. The rice was dense and tacky which is not how sushi rice is supposed to be. But overall I would say this place and Sushi Tatsu in Fairview Heights is close if I'm just needing to satisfy my sushi fix close-by. I realize that I will not get true sushi unless I'm on the coast or back home but this place has a thumbs up from me. It helps that the owners are super nice; no complaints on service. read more

Great sushi. The pad thai is no bueno. The place is just a window off the sidewalk. There's no indoor dining.

This is by far the best Sushi restaurant in the area. It is literally a place you would easily drive by HOWEVER you will be pleasantly surprised by the simple and warm atmosphere. The food is reasonably priced and I have not found anything on the menu that is great! Was not a huge fan of sushi until this place. This local family owned restaurant is unmatched. Now if you are looking for glitz and glam, this is not for you, but if you want truly amazing food and great service go in...you won't regret it! read more

Best sushi place in Belleville/surrounding areas and one of my favorite restaurants in town at that. We always come for lunch (buy 2 rolls, get 3rd free), and the sushi is always extremely fresh and delicious. Spicy tuna roll and spicy crab are my favorite, although everything I've tried is good. Their pineapple fried rice is also to die for. The owners (chef/server) are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. Even when they're extremely busy, you will be in and out within 30 minutes with a gracious "thank you" from the chef. Ps. It's so good that I actually hate Sundays because they are closed. read more

My wife, son, and I shared the mango roll, unagi sashimi, and two others I don't remember. All were excellent, fresh, and flavorful, with subtle flavors and textures. Went in for a quick lunch on Halloween day and had the sashimi for 1, the fish was fresh and tasted great. The meal came with miso soup and I ordered a bowl of rice on the side. I asked for some pepper flakes for my rice and what I got kicked the sh.t out of the usual stuff in a shaker. The pieces could have been larger but were cut thick. Will be back. read more

If one were to assume this is a dump, they'd be so very wrong. If you've wondered about this place, I urge you to do yourself a favor and GO IN AND TRY IT!!!! I came in and Maureen greeted me. I asked a few questions about the menu and decided to go with the N Illinois roll and the Philadelphia roll, as well as a Thai iced tea. Little did I know, I could have gotten away with just the N Illinois roll. Now they offer both sushi and some Thai options. I came in specifically for the sushi this trip. The iced tea was delicious, the rolls were well prepared, beautifully presented, and tasted so good. The fish was fresh, there was a perfect balance of sweet and spicy with the N Illinois roll. After I finished, Maureen even gave me a to go menu and recommended a couple of rolls for my next trip. I'm excited to take my mom here. I know she'll enjoy it as much as I did. read more

I have to admit, my partner and I have been driving past this restaurant for months now, wondering, "What the hell is a Sushi Thai?" We have company visiting this week, however, and we decided we'd go ahead and give it a try. And god, am I glad I did. I can't even remotely begin to understand what some of the other reviewers here have found to complain about. The sushi is very reasonably priced, and three for two is not a bad deal at all. We were given very generous portions of the sauce served atop the spicy salmon and crunchy tuna, which all three of us were impressed by. Typically, any sauces or dressings on sushi are sparing at best, but Sushi Thai gave us plenty of extra to dip the other rolls, as well. Speaking of the crunchy tuna, I'm already looking forward to going back there for another helping. I've found my new favorite place to get sushi, as well as my new favorite item to order. I can't wait to try their curry and tempura. Our miso soup was served in large bowls, hot but not scalding, and was practically the Platonic ideal of a good miso soup. I sort of found myself wishing that we'd been given the wider spoons that are often available, but it's hardly a real issue. The presentation was really great, too. The arrangement was so pretty -- with the sushi, ginger, wasabi, and drizzled sauce -- that I couldn't help snapping a photo (which is included in this album, now). Our server (who I think was one of the owners) was very friendly and attentive. We never went for very long without her topping off our glasses of water. The only problems I can see are the lack of parking and the lack of dining space, but this is something that would affect any small restaurant along 159. Our experience was quiet, peaceful, and both filling and tasty. Previously, Wasabi in Edwardsville was my favorite place to go, but I'm excited to have a fantastic sushi location that's a few minutes from my house instead of forty-five. Disappointed. For only having 6 tables, the service was sad. 20 mins for warm water, then the food was haphazardly served. I had sushi before we had appetizers. Waitress forgot my soup til I was done eating, then brought the bland miso. Wife wanted coconut soup but she said 'no soup'... The chirashi bowl was just sushi rice with 9 pieces of sashimi, 3 of which I suspect were escolar. No vegetables, no pickles. The fish was good quality, but not enough to overcome the associated price. Better options in the area. read more

Giving two stars because customer service was fine and the place was clean, but the food was REALLY bland. We came about an hour before closing and the sushi did not taste fresh at all. Coconut shrimp tasted like nothing at all. The Thai iced tea was good! Most disappointing to me was that the Pad Thai didn't taste like anything and strangely used vermicelli noodles instead of flat typical noodles, making the theoretical sauce (none to actually be seen) completely absorbed. The fried rice was also quite bland and tacky. I'm bummed because this place has great reviews but it just wasn't good. Don't feel very good afterwards either. read more

I was craving sushi and excited to try this place. Service was prompt. I got the avocado salad and was surprised that it was mostly avocado chunks (a very generous portion) with some imitation crab. A hidden gem that is sure to tantalize your taste buds. This sushi was all fresh and delicious and at a very good price. We have yet to try their Thai food, but if the sushi is any indicator on how good the food is we cannot wait to come back and try that as well. It was nice that they had so many vegetarian options on the sushi menu and the Thai menu and the salad dressing on the house salad was very delicious. We had no trouble finding parking on a side street, and it wasn't very busy. They have alcohol, and they also have things like Thai tea. Stop number two on my birthday sushi crawl. This quaint mom and pop place was fun. The chef remembered my friends from the last time they had been there and remembered their order, quite impressive! We ordered the Belleville Alligator roll , the New York roll, and the crazy tuna roll. The Belleville alligator roll won out of the three both on presentation ( see pic) and on overall flavor and texture. The NY roll was a close second. This is by far, my favorite sushi joint in the the STL area. My girlfriend, who is a native Japanese, claims it to be the best sushi in America. The Sushi is absolutely amazing! Fish is soft, with a good odor. Rice is always soft and fresh. The specialized rolls are perfectly crafted and very creative. I recommend the Green Dragon and N.Illinois rolls. Their thai food is phenomenal as well! The service is what really makes the place one of a kind. The couple that owns the place are a delight to chat with. They remember my name, and that my Girlfriend is Japanese. Food comes out in a timely manner, and take-out is a breeze! If you want amazing food, and service, I recommend Sushithai! read more
