Stopped for lunch today at what we read was a China Star with a 4-star review. What we found was a very cluttered, dirty building with seating amidst the storage. Spent $25 for for food we couldn't eat and went into the garbage can as we left. Mongolian beef was ultra chewy and impossible to eat. Fried rice & egg roll seemed to have both been cooked in rancid oil. When we communicated the food was bad, they did offer us one free meal when we came back. We won't ever be back. read more

Our order consisted of pork dumplings, spring rolls, crab rangoon, chicken & broccoli, General Tsao's chicken, and egg drop soup. The dumplings were bland but everything else was good. The fried rice was very dark and tasted only of soy sauce. Haven't been able to find a good Chinese place around here and had high hopes for this place. My favorite Chinese restaurant was Jade Garden in Maryville, IL, before they permanently closed. I've been struggling since their closing to find a new "favorite place" to satisfy my Chinese food cravings. Tonight I have finally found my new favorite place in China King of Fairview Heights! My husband picked up an order for me at their location, which is about a half hour drive from our home. By the time he got here and I opened the bag, everything I ordered was not only correct, but was also still quite hot. I ordered shrimp egg rolls and beef with garlic sauce. Both were fresh and delicious! I have trouble with dishes that are very spicy due to a medical condition, so when I ordered, I requested the beef with garlic sauce be made "mild" rather than "hot". The staff understood me perfectly as my entree was at the exact amount of heat that I can tolerate and not too spicy for my sensitivity. The food was prepared very quickly and the staff was friendly and welcoming. The place was not crowded at the time my husband was there, so he had very little wait time. Being a lover of Chinese cuisine, now that I've found my new favorite place, I can't wait to try every item on their menu! Highly, highly recommend! read more

I enjoyed my food full heartedly. I got the combination plate of bbq rib tips with pork fried rice and added crab Rangoon instead of having an egg roll. The crab Rangoon was filled deliciously with cream cheese crab flavor. It did not come with the crab Rangoon sauce so it was just the Rangoon. Overall the meal was delicious. The bbq boneless rib tips were a tad too crispy, maybe if I got sauce on it it would make it softer. The flavor of the meat was good. Everything came out nice and hot. On the downside of the place is they don't give out drinks when you surpass a budget. I know most Chinese places give some extra soda cans for a larger order. No soda, drier meat with crispy burnt bits, and sauce less crab Rangoon. I would eat here again. read more

Apparently China King uses GrubHub to deliver their orders and I didn't get any duck sauce with my crab Rangoon no orange sauce at all even though I had a whole order of it for 455 in crab Rangoon's not any good without the orange sauce I called China King and they said it's not their problem. It's the Driver problem Well since they're using GrubHub, how am I supposed to contact somebody? This is ridiculous. Apparently, I'll use someone else that doesn't use GrubHub.!!! read more

Best Chinese take-out in the area. Food is fresh and ready to go in 10-15 mins. Portions are large - one special plate is enough to feed two people (or one really hangry person). On your way out you can grab as many sauce packets as you want! The building itself looks pretty sketchy, inside and out... which is one of the main reasons it took us over a year to give it a shot. They have tables but recommend that it is only a take out place.....my only comment on the food is with the G Tso chicken ask for the sauce on the side so the chicken holds more of its crisp ones and not a fan of their fried rice....too much soy and no scrambled eggs eggs. Do NOT ORDER DELIVERY. This establishment does not deliver , it's done through a 3rd party who can at any time " cancel your order". We sat around for two hours waiting for dinner before we called to find out " there are no available drivers and our order has been canceled" . To add to that they also will not refund your money for 10 business days. There are plenty of respectable Chinese establishments in the area to order from and this is NOT one of them. This place is solid. I placed an order at 9:30, and they close at ten. They happily took the order. I get there at 9:53 and walk in. The person at the counter (a teenager who was wearing his ball cap backward, but turned it forward when I walked in. Idk why unnoticed that, but I thought it was respectful for him to do that even though I didn't mind, but I digress) greeted me warmly but still efficiently (which I appreciate), handed me my food, and directed me to the sauces which are stored in a little bookshelf by the door. So now I'm home and the food is bomb actually. I got egg foo yung, which I've never had before anywhere. I'm pleased that my first time having it was here, as it was delicious and was a nice sized portion. As a backup I ordered some plain fried rice, and some General Tso's chicken which came with white rice. The brown rice was yummy and the chicken was just slightly spicy enough and tasted great, and was also a large portion, though I asked for a small. Maybe they tossed some extra in there because they were closing I'm not complaining though; they'll be my lunch tomorrow.
