We've been going here for awhile now and it is always a hit and miss if the visit was worth it. Sometimes everything is spot on and incredible but other times everything has been sitting for awhile and old. They typically tend to have the usual same dishes out with no deviation from them. It's very hard to pinpoint the best time to go and get the best food. Over the years the quality of everything has diminished. They have over the past year decreased their plate sizes available and changed their silverware as well. The servers there are always kind and taking plates from the table throughout the meal and checking to see when you need a refill and ready for your check. They usually try to eat you close together with others and sections within the buffet. The price seems very fair for an all-you-can-eat buffet. This time the only things that were fresh were the Pepsi and when we were keeping an eye out for fresh Chinese Donuts (that weren't hard as a rock). Otherwise everything we had had been sitting out for a while. We will always come back here just wish more times we were luckier with fresher food when we go!

This is THS BEST Chinese in the area in my option on the Illinois side of the river! The folk who run it keep everything nice and clean and the food is always fresh! I highly recommend giving this place a try if you enjoy a good Chinese meal!

Does china food ever taste different. NO. NEVER. I've eaten Chinese from coast to coast and It only slightly varies in taste so my criteria is a little different. So my review will be more about the following. This is one of the better places to eat Chinese. The price is reasonable. The selection is plentiful. The establishment is very clean and they keep the food well stocked. The dishes are all done very well considering that it's no different from the many many I've had. I enjoyed it and will come back. The lunch is $8 and worth every penny.

Sushi, shrimp, steak, fried rice and noodles. Everything cooked perfectly, it was a great experience!

I was very impressed by the quality of food, the price is more than fair, this Chinese buffet is the best I've ever been to.

Good: Crab ragoon was good, hot and fresh. The steamed shrimp with vegetables was good. Shrimp…read morewere nice sized and cooked well. Bad: Egg roll was cold but tasted ok. Fried rice was yellow rice with some onions, very sad rice with no flavor at all. Hardly traditional fried rice. Was given a 25 minute estimate. Got there at 20 minutes and waited almost 30 more for my order. The huge tub of brown gravy they give you is ridiculously large for the amount needed for the entree and scalding hot temperature. The container it comes in has a lid that is impossible to remove without spilling the full sauce all over. There are no sauce packets out for you to grab like most Chinese take out places have and when the bag was handed to me all sealed up I assumed (wrongly) that they had thrown some sauces in. My bad for assuming. They did throw fortune cookies in. Ugly: The General Tso chicken was inedible. The unrecognizable chunks of "chicken" were so stringy and tough and full of cartridge more than half of them could not be eaten and had to be spit out. The sauce also had no heat (menu shows a spicy symbol) and really no flavor like traditional General Chicken you would expect. Our total order exceeded the amount ($21 before tax) listed on the menu for 3 free crab rangoon which I asked for when I ordered. When I got there they charged me for the rangoon but I didn't notice that until I got home. This is our 3rd disappointing visit in a row. I realize it's the only Chinese in town and everyone in Bethalto loves it but it's really sad that it doesn't live up to the hype.

Fresh, rich salmon wrapped in a perfect balance of flavor and texture that hits every craving you didn't even know you had. The place itself is always clean, the staff is friendly, and the food comes out fast and piping hot. You can tell they care about quality -- everything from the sushi to the moo goo gai pan is spot-on. But that Crazy Salmon Roll? That's next-level. I've eaten sushi all over, and somehow this little spot in Vandalia nailed it better than most big-city places. Do yourself a favor: skip the usual, order the Crazy Salmon Roll, and thank me later. You haven't truly lived until you've had one.

We sat down and a waitress came to us for our drink orders and our food order. She was friendly, helpful and attentive throughout the meal, refilling drinks, and asking if we needed anything. Our food came out quickly. It was hot. It was fresh and it tasted good. Two people in our family ordered the general Tao and we really liked the sauce. The crab Rangoon's were a nice size with a good amount of filling. Overall we were very happy with our meal and left satisfied.

I just moved to town this June. This place is walking distance from my home. I want it to be good,…read moreI need it to be good. I do not want to have to drive to another town to get, what my wife calls "strip mall Chinese". This initial review is for my lunch time visit on 2 JUL 2025. I got carry out Hunan Pork, and Hot & Sour soup, as a combo,so it came with fried rice and an egg roll. I notice that the most recent reviews (glowing) were from 2023. Things can change, they can change overnight with a change of cook/staff or ownership. Someone local with more insight will eventually be able to fill me in. It is a nice enough place, overall. A bit run down, and a little bit cliche in terms of the decorating. With some light maintenance and a bit of editing on the decor, it could be a charming little spot, in a small Midwestern town. I am trying to be kind, becuase I have been fortunate enough to have travelled the world, and have gone to many different levels of restuarants. I like "simple" americanized Chinese food sometimes, it is something I actually look for when I got o different towns. The good; hot & sour soup was very nice, just tangy enough from the vinegar and just spicy enough from pepper (didn't detect any hot sauce flavors) to be good. There were mushrooms, bamboo, and a bit of tofu. I missed the drizzled egg that I have had in others versions. The could have been better; the Hunan pork was very one note, salt, was tender and good portion in the dish, but that just salt flavoring made it a bit hard to enjoy. The sauce was okay, and the vegetables were well prepared and balanced. The egg roll was an egg roll, if not mass produced, it just wasn't made with real attention, it was a bit hollow. The bad: fried rice, the texture was just plain wrong from anything I have had over many years and came to believe was correctly made. There were no "chunks" of anything, just vaguely browned rice (soy sauce perhaps). I will come back, I will try other things. I will order from the high end of the menu and see if perhaps they simply , for complex reasons I'm sure, decided to mail it in on the weekday lunch combos (places do that). I want Bamboo Garden to be better. I want it to be a reliable place for me to get good "strip mall Chinese."
