Yes, I a giving a Chinese/Vietnamese restaurant 5 Stars. China Wok is a combo of both, dine-in and a carry-out. I primarily use it for carry-out. I think sometime in the near future, I'll try dining in. I frequently change my entree, but I always get one egg roll and an order of crab rangoon. The egg roll is larger than most Chinese restaurants. I like that it's super crispy and the inside is packed full. The crab rangoon comes with four pieces and they'll ask you if you want a side of sweet & sour sauce. If you say yes, you'll get a small cup of the red sauce like when you order Sweet & Sour Pork or Chicken. They don't give you those small packets like other restaurants. My usual go to entrees are always Beef and Broccoli or General Tso's Chicken. Both of them are very good. I do the B&B when I'm trying to eat healthy Chinese. The beef is tender and the broccoli is soft, but still has a little snap to it. When enjoying the Beef and Broccoli, I have white rice. The General Tso's Chicken has a lite crispy coating and the sauce blends perfectly with fried rice, instead of white rice. Service is over the top friendly. Kelly the owner has personality plus, is super witty and always makes sure you are a satisfied customer. read more

We tried this place over 20 years ago when we moved to the area and we were underwhelmed. Over the years we tried the pho and spring rolls and they were good! We get them on a regular basis. Finally, we were craving Chinese/Vietnamese food and we decided to try it again. We had the green beans, the veggie fried rice, crab Rangoon, hot braised chicken, and Mi Xao Dun. All were a delight. The food was plentiful and of a higher quality than I have been able to find for a long time! The food was hot, fresh, a great amount for the price and course the proprietor, Kelly, is awesome. A hidden gem that I am overjoyed to have found. I love fresh spring rolls and their Vietnamese spring rolls are amazing. They're refreshing, well wrapped and served with hoisin and chopped peanuts. I can't get enough. I've been sick the last few days and have called in an order twice now. The woman I spoke to could not have been kinder! I'm so excited to try the rest of the menu. I had the fresh spring rolls with Hoisin sauce and they were a treat. These rolls were filled with fresh cut pork and shrimp, stuffed with crisp vegetables and herbs that paired perfectly with the sauce. The owners are always friendly and diligent. They are determined to make sure you are getting the peak flavor experience. I've seen them turn away orders when they were super busy as it would have sacrificed quality. If you order to go they work hard to time your order to arrival time so nothing sits under a heat lamp. I've had the pho before as well and it a delight. So when I was in college, I worked for a little Chinese Book store. Every Saturday I would help the elderly owners carry groceries from the local China town. In thanks, Mrs Cheng would give me a Chinese home cooking lesson. Let me tell you. The "potstickers" or "jaiozi" as they are called in China, ARE EXACTLY THE SAME AS I MADE WITH MRS CHENG! Actually, the China Wok ones are bigger! Totally the taste of home. We placed a large order for company coming over and it was such a fabulous feast. In particular the Orange Beef, the Wushu pork, and the egg foo yung were wonderful. Plus the restaurant is delightful inside Sooooo Chinese! And the staff really peppy and gracious! Kelly was in rare form when we went and was entertaining to say the least. Didn't run us the wrong way like others, but I can understand how her act can wear thin fast. I did have an issue with some of the prices and food portions though- way too expensive for what you get. I ordered the shrimp, and we're talking 5 or 6 shrimps, with 100 onions and green peppers and sauce. That's it! Come on. And the "large" platters were not large at all. Always a fun time at China Wok with Kelly as the star of the show! Enjoyed garlic chicken with steamed rice and spicy hunan beef with steamed rice and 2 egg rolls with my hubby. Food was excellent and extremely hot coming out of the kitchen. The Saturday night we were there was a super busy one for Kelly and staff! All tables were full and the carry outs were flying out the door. I believe that is a testament to the food quality and hard work to take care of all the customers. I absolutely love this place! The food has a Vietnamese spin on it, so many of the dishes are unique to the other local Chinese places. The General Chicken here is delicious! In my opinion way better than the recipe used at most other Chinese food places I have been. I would have given this place a perfect 5 stars, but there are a few factors that I think justify the 1 star deduction. 1.) I find it to be a little expensive, especially since the owner usually adds something that I didn't specifically request and charges a dollar or so for it (the donuts given when you order over a certain amount are not entirely free, and the container of sweet and sour sauce given to accompany the Crab Rangoon, these are a few examples of things I have had extra charges for. 2.) I know the owner Kelly can rub people the wrong way. Some people love her, but some people literally will not go there because she comes across rude at times. She is a little loud and she is blunt when she has something to say. She does not change tone when she is asking questions about your order or when informing you if something you have requested is not correct or not an option on the menu. I also know that she has asked people about a tip if she does not see one listed on their receipt. (I always tip something, but I know some people do not feel like they need to tip if they are just picking up an order, or if they feel they did not receive good service). For these reasons I did not give it a perfect score, but the food is so good that I would still recommend this place to anyone who asked. read more

I was really wanting to get my gut full of Chinese food, so I was very disappointed when they said that they no longer served from the buffet, menu orders only. Hmmmm how can I be miserable for the rest of the day without a buffet. They have a lunch serving size, I got the cashew chicken, after I picked out the celery she told me that I could have asked for no celery. It was delicious and plentiful. This place is owned/run by a wonderful Vietnamese woman named Kelly....that should have been enough to convince me to try the Phó (which we found out later that she takes 24 hrs to make the broth...omg yum!) but we went with the traditional chinese food, which was good as well! Started with the Bo Bo Platter, lots of fried 'Americanized' chinese goodies (egg rolls, crab rangoon, chicken wings, etc). Kids had the Honey Sesame chicken which they really liked, husband had crispy beef (which he liked, I thought it needed some more seasoning and less breading on the beef) ...I had the Mu Shu Shrimp - needed a little more seasoning, and the crepes were a little dry. The shrimp were cooked perfectly and plump. The service was great and very personable...Kelly, the owner is quite a character and so very sweet and hospitable... and hysterical. Had a great time! We moved to the area a few months ago and I have been on the hunt for fantastic restaurants that would not require going to St Louis. Well, I read some reviews and decided to try this place since we haven't found great Chinese yet. This place is fantastic! Kelly is super friendly and very funny. The food came out hot and fresh. The flavors are fantastic (I'm a bit of a food snob). The only issue we had was that we came on a rather busy evening and we're a large family. But we're also a happy family so it's always easy to for us to amuse ourselves and laugh and joke. This will now be our first and only stop for Chinese food in our area. Went here a year ir so ag and enjoyed it...went for lunch this week but did not feel like buffet..my go to is egg drop soup when I don't feel well...a drink comes with the buffet..I had soup..bowl not cup...so didn't cheap out...I drank his hot tea..so was charged four yes 4 dollars for the tea that came with his buffet...said whatever as the proprietress stood and almost screamed at me that if I drink tea I must pay...she was yelling..I was just saying that she was the only one arguing...cheated and embarrassed ...I would not recommend this restaurant even before I was verbally assaulted and overcharged. read more

We've lived in the Godfrey/Alton area for 2 years now and finally found good asian food. We didn't expect to find authentic food at a place with such a generic name. I ordered the pho and it was delicious and in a huge bowl. The owner said her pho broth is simmered for a full 24 hours, and I can tell the difference. My wife ordered beef and broccoli which was also good. They have a full menu of normal Chinese food, plus three Vietnamese dishes. I recommend trying this place out. It doesn't look like it, but it's a real find. We will be coming back soon! read more
