This was the first time we tried it and we will definitely be back! It is located in the same lot as Farm and Home. The decor is sparse, it's an older building, but very clean. The variety of foods is impressive. Everything we tried was very good. Servers kept the plates cleared in good time. They have a senior discount which is always appreciated. There were salad items and other items not necessarily Asian, so there is something for everyone. We will be making this a go-to!

Let me start out by saying, typically I am not a buffet person, but I was shopping next door and thought I'd give them a try. Once again, this is a review where I need and want a half star. For a buffet, it really wasn't that bad. The buffet area was kept clean and filled on a regular schedule as I dined. My food was all at a warm temperature and I didn't have to push anything aside for being cold. Their soda fountain was Pepsi, which I am not a fan of, but when given it as a choice, I can do the diet version. Foods that I tried and liked were; General Tso's Chicken, Bourbon Chicken, Green Pepper Steak, Chicken with Broccoli, Beef Lo Mein and the Green Beans. It's kinda funny, my favorite was the Green Beans and not any of the Chinese dishes. Foods that I did not like; Egg Roll, Crab Rangoon, Fried Rice and Fried Chicken Wings. It's disappointing when the Egg Roll and Crab Rangoon are not good when enjoying a Chinese meal. For me, if they are good, I can make them a light meal. Dining here you have very little interaction with the staff. You'll speak with the cashier when you first walk in and pay, and that's about it. Once you are dining, the staff working the dining room rarely speak as they bus and clean tables. The ambiance is non-existence, it's outdate and scary, but they keep it clean. If your self-esteem is low because you've gained a few pounds, go have lunch here. Once you see the other diners, your self-esteem will rise.

I eat here almost once a week with my pal Steven. We both enjoy this establishment for the cheap and easy sit down experience. Steven loves the decor in this restaurant though I don't give much thought about it. Some might say the food here isn't very fresh or that the place is a bit trashy but Steven and I think it has amazing charm. I would recommend you give it a shot. They have a huge selection. Some of my favorite items are the pot stickers, general Tso's chicken, and potatoes. Steven adores the lo mein and the green beans. The most recent trip I tried out their chicken wings and they were alright! Every once in a while Steven and I indulge in their sweets. I also have to point out that their sweet tea is fabulous and I usually drink two full glasses at least. I don't have much to say about the service since you serve yourself but everyone I've interacted with is always very nice. Good people. Steven did use the bathroom once and said that the toilet was broken but they might have fixed it since then. I hope so anyway!

The best little Chinese buffet in the the Midwest!

Growing up, this was THEE place to go for Chinese food. I would stay away from pretty much all other Chinese places in the area for fear of gastro-intestinal bugs. Now, this is not really authentic Chinese food, if that is what you're looking for, but it is good. The selection is very large and offers some items that other Chinese food lovers don't even believe exist (like peanut butter chicken) when I mention them. If you are not accustomed to eating very greasy food, then you might not want to go wild on your first attempt - many people are overwhelmed by the spread and load up on the first trip only to regret it later. Like I said, this isn't really authentic Chinese Food, but don't tell that to the locals. There are also a few standard American items like chicken tenders to keep the less experimental diners happy.

I've added an Egg Roll to the order and presto, I've got a meal. Their Egg Rolls are crisp and crunchy. My favorite main dishes are; General Tso, Beef & Broccoli, Orange Chicken, Hot Pepper Chicken and Beef Fried Rice. Today, I'll add the St Paul Sandwich. When I first moved to the Eastside of the river, none of the Chinese restaurants offered a St. Paul. Just recently, China King added them to the menu and they're doing a fine job preparing them. Since moving over here and dining at China King, the staff has revolved and improved. Most speak broken English, but they can still take and get your order prepared correctly. They may not be personable and super friendly, but your food will be delicious.

Fried rice was yellow rice with some onions, very sad rice with no flavor at all. Hardly traditional fried rice. Was given a 25 minute estimate. Got there at 20 minutes and waited almost 30 more for my order. The huge tub of brown gravy they give you is ridiculously large for the amount needed for the entree and scalding hot temperature. The container it comes in has a lid that is impossible to remove without spilling the full sauce all over. There are no sauce packets out for you to grab like most Chinese take out places have and when the bag was handed to me all sealed up I assumed (wrongly) that they had thrown some sauces in. My bad for assuming. They did throw fortune cookies in. Ugly: The General Tso chicken was inedible. The unrecognizable chunks of "chicken" were so stringy and tough and full of cartridge more than half of them could not be eaten and had to be spit out. The sauce also had no heat (menu shows a spicy symbol) and really no flavor like traditional General Chicken you would expect. Our total order exceeded the amount ($21 before tax) listed on the menu for 3 free crab rangoon which I asked for when I ordered. When I got there they charged me for the rangoon but I didn't notice that until I got home. This is our 3rd disappointing visit in a row. I realize it's the only Chinese in town and everyone in Bethalto loves it but it's really sad that it doesn't live up to the hype.

I think sometime in the near future, I'll try dining in. I frequently change my entree, but I always get one egg roll and an order of crab rangoon. The crab rangoon comes with four pieces and they'll ask you if you want a side of sweet & sour sauce. My usual go to entrees are always Beef and Broccoli or General Tso's Chicken. Both of them are very good. I do the B&B when I'm trying to eat healthy Chinese. The beef is tender and the broccoli is soft, but still has a little snap to it. When enjoying the Beef and Broccoli, I have white rice. The General Tso's Chicken has a lite crispy coating and the sauce blends perfectly with fried rice, instead of white rice. Service is over the top friendly. My order for the evening was; Beef & Broccoli with Fried Rice. I also had, Crab Rangoon (4) and an Egg Roll. The egg roll was super crisp and filling was packed tight. I loved the crunch when I bit into it. The crab rangoon pockets were filled with the creamy sauce and fried to a soft golden color. The Beef and Broccoli was a nice change from my typical order of General Tso. The beef and broccoli was tossed in a rich beef sauce and also had sliced carrots. Both veggies were prepared to the point where they were soft, but still had a good snap. The beef was super, super tender. There was so much sauce, I scooped some it over the fried rice for extra flavor. The staff is super perky. They all said, hello and welcome when I entered the restaurant. Even the cooks, greeted me. I've never dined in, always carry out. It's always been hard to get through on the phone, competing with other customers wanting to place a take out order, and tonight, our first time since they opened again, was no exception. We got through about 10 min after we starting trying, place our order and we were told 30-35 min. It was indeed done in 30 min. There is some confusion with the menu and ordering items. We couldn't find an updated menu online, the ones on here and Google were outdated. We picked up a menu while there - it's extensive & not super organized, the General Tso isn't under chicken but rather another section, which was somewhat confusing - probably just because it's such a lengthy menu. We also ordered 4 fortune cookies and the lady said they only sell 10 at a time, which is weird because they are on the menu for 20 cents each, nothing noting only orders of 10. Oh well, we will eat them eventually lol! The bottom line on the food - husband said the general Tso was delicious! The egg rolls were very fresh, crab Rangoon really good but the edges not as crispy as I'd prefer, they might have sat for a bit (but still good, and I'm sure even better super fresh!). The beef fried rice was really good. The homemade sweet & sour is a must! It comes in a huge container, we weren't sure so we ordered 2 and it was way too much - you only need one for several people unless your drinking it.
