I have tried multiple Chinese restaurants since moving to the Alton area and I keep coming back to China King. It easily is my favorite. Every entree or appetizer I order, pleases my taste buds. There Crab Rangoon is the bomb. You get 8 big pieces, so if you're a single person, it easily can be a meal. I've added an Egg Roll to the order and presto, I've got a meal. Their Egg Rolls are crisp and crunchy. My favorite main dishes are; General Tso, Beef & Broccoli, Orange Chicken, Hot Pepper Chicken and Beef Fried Rice. Today, I'll add the St Paul Sandwich. When I first moved to the Eastside of the river, none of the Chinese restaurants offered a St. Paul. Just recently, China King added them to the menu and they're doing a fine job preparing them. Since moving over here and dining at China King, the staff has revolved and improved. Most speak broken English, but they can still take and get your order prepared correctly. They may not be personable and super friendly, but your food will be delicious. read more

Atmosphere is uninviting and personal is unfriendly. Then there is the food. Except for the crab Rangoon, basically inedible. We threw the general Tso's chicken away. It was fatty, squishy fried yuck. We were unsure of what exactly the chicken fried rice was, Were there very long layers of noodles or onions on the top of the rice? Decent chinese food! The crab rangoon are HUGE & you get 8 in an order. Sweet & sour sauce was tasty. Beef fried rice was oily, and the egg rolls were just okay. My husbands chicken was decent! The price did seem a bit high compared to menu prices, but not so outrageous I questioned it too much, but worth noting here. I'd have given this 4 star if cheaper, but the value and taste overall, solid decent 3 star chinese food. read more

As the saying goes, "Once you've been to this place, you've been to them all". That holds true for China King, as I've been to four locations. Not that its a bad thing! The food is still hot and fresh, and the decor is the same. Yes, at times the staff can be rude. But they'll run your food out to you if you're eating in. I always get the Shrimp Lo Mein, which is not found on the menu but they still have it. I also dig their General Tsos and their crab rangoon. Multiple bad experiences. Not a big "leave a bad review" person but after several attempts with this place I feel people need to know what to expect. Employees are not polite and if your not paying attention they will up sell you. Has happened multiple times where they have charged me for a large order when I only wanted (and ordered) the smaller order. Another time their menu didn't match what was online so when I ordered a dinner combination (which was supposed to come with sides) they charged me for the sides instead of part of the combo and explained by saying their menu changed. My friend treated me to lunch and the cashew chicken was enough I had 2 meals! The egg roll was great and not greasy, and the crab Rangoon was the biggest and best! Even on the 15 minutes it took her to pick up and bring home the food was HOT! Would recommend and can't wait to try more! read more

The food here is the best Chinese food that I have ever tasted! They are very fast from order to carry-out. The only downside is that it is not a buffet. Everything that I have tried has been fantastic. My regular order consists of Fried Wontons, Crab Rangoon, Egg Drop Soup w/ Crispy Noodles, Chicken & Broccoli with Pork Fried Rice, Sweet & Sour Chicken and my new and all time favorite is House Special Lo Mien... it is soooo YUMMY!! They do not speak very good English and are not overly friendly but they are fast and reliable and consistently good! I placed an order for CASHEW chicken with China King. I get all the way home only to find that they had given me Sesame chicken. I immediately called China King to explain the mix up in order. Rather than providing good customer service, and offer to AT LEAST make what I asked for in exchange for me returning the Sesame chicken, they proceeded to dispute what I ordered. This is not the first time that I've received poor customer service from them, but it certainly will be the LAST. I would recommend the HONG KONG HOUSE 1720 WASHINGTON AVE, ALTON, IL 62002 if you'd prefer eating good food where your business is appreciated. China King. Bang. Hands down. Boom. The best takeout Chinese food in the greater Alton/Godfrey area. Bing. I, 18-30 year old male, ordered Kung Pao Chicken. Never had it before, believe it or not. I usually find myself gravitating to General Tso's. I am an adventurous eater until it comes to Chinese food. I find myself distrustful of most of the restaurants in the area. Had a bad run in with a new place, yeah, I'll hold a grudge. I took a chance tonight, my friends. I told my girlfriend, 18-30 year old female, "You know what, babe? I'll order Kung Pao this time. Mix it up!". Because of my spontaneity, I experienced something so profound and thought-provoking I joined yelp just you tell you about it. China King's Kung Pao Chicken (KPC). (Which I ordered off the 'Special Combination Plates' section of the menu. Which included a large portion of pork fried rice and my choice of an eggroll or crab ragoon. I chose egg roll, which deserves it's own book. I will be focusing on the KPC.) may not look like much. A pile of crispy fried chicken bits, glistening with in a dull colored sauce. Mixed in with that is a small handful of Spanish peanuts, a few roughly chopped stalks of your standard grocery celery, several large pieces of the classic green bell pepper, and the poorly missed garnish of slices of carrot. I said it out loud, "I expected more, I don't know, 'pow!'. I pulled out my bright green chop sticks and began to dig in. Filling my chubby little cheeks with crunchy peanuts and flavorful chicken, I am pleased in an instant. That drives me to eat another. Oh and another. I found myself inhaling the vegetable-chicken mixture into my mouth. "My god, this lightly cooked celery-peanut combo is just the right amount of crunch this dish asks for." "This juicy chicken just sucker punches my taste buds into the next town." My thoughts began to race and I knew almost instantly the Kung Pao Chicken from China King runs Flavortown and half the gangs in it. The boring slightly crisp celery becomes the top of the town once covered in the spicy (but not hot!) Kung Pao sauce. The menu claims KPC is a spicy dish, I will tell you now this isn't the case. No lips were tingled, no noses ran, no foreheads produced sweat. Don't let that deter you from what is an amazing dish. Simple ingredients brought together in a hot and sexy dance that produces some of the most Chinese-American food this stoned guy has ever tasted. I will be returning.
