We decided to stop in China King for a sitdown meal on a recent road trip and are happy we did. There's a good amount of seating both tables and booths. We sat down and a waitress came to us for our drink orders and our food order. She was friendly, helpful and attentive throughout the meal, refilling drinks, and asking if we needed anything. Our food came out quickly. It was hot. It was fresh and it tasted good. Two people in our family ordered the general Tao and we really liked the sauce. The crab Rangoon's were a nice size with a good amount of filling. Overall we were very happy with our meal and left satisfied. read more

If you haven't tried the Crazy Salmon Roll from China King, you haven't lived yet. Seriously -- it's that good. Fresh, rich salmon wrapped in a perfect balance of flavor and texture that hits every craving you didn't even know you had. The place itself is always clean, the staff is friendly, and the food comes out fast and piping hot. You can tell they care about quality -- everything from the sushi to the moo goo gai pan is spot-on. But that Crazy Salmon Roll? That's next-level. I've eaten sushi all over, and somehow this little spot in Vandalia nailed it better than most big-city places. Do yourself a favor: skip the usual, order the Crazy Salmon Roll, and thank me later. You haven't truly lived until you've had one. read more

Food- always good Service- quick and attentive Setting- typical booths and table set up My family loves this place! They always have the best food when we order it. The sushi is a family favorite! The wait times for us to pick up is never crazy and if we've had to wait it's been a well communicated why. read more

Quite a let down... was passing by during a long trip and was excited to get some takeout for when we got to the hotel. Lo mein was really truly awful... shrimp fried rice was not great either. Crab Rangoons and fried wontons were TERRIBLE (dry as a bone and stale). But hey the fortune cookie was good.... read more

China King has the best sushi, Chinese food of any restaurant of its venue I've ever been to and I've been to every major metro in the United States for work. I even lived in NY, NY, Dallas, SF, and San Diego just to prove my point. I have not found a better sushi, Chinese restaurant than this quaint family run gem in Vandalia, Il. And they are busy! Whatever you order it will be the best you've ever had. And the owner makes the sushi and is so proud of its appearance because it's beautiful to look at. He was trained by a master, so he's creative and appearance matters. One little tip, if you like your Vandalia Roll or one of his specialties compliment him. He loves to hear from his happy customers. Eating in on a Friday night? Get there early they fill up quickly. read more

Sesame chicken had a gooey sugary sauce that made it clucking awful. The Hunan shrimp's vegetables were al dente. Unfortunately, the sauce was inedible. The shrimp were cooked to death. The wonton soup broth was bland. We attempted to dunk the chicken and shrimp into the broth to cleanse the proteins. The gelatinous substances held fast. The wonton wrappers were perfect. The wonton filling had expected pork flavor. The crab Rangoon was the star - crisp, perfectly fried, and oozing with cream cheese. The white rice had a rancid flavor. How can a Chinese restaurant ruin white rice? The yellow colored fried rice lacked any sign of having been in a wok. The food is all served in disposable plastic to go containers. Perhaps, the idea behind the lack of authentic place settings and chopsticks is to avoid any appearance that this place serves Chinese food. The atmosphere and interior decor were uninviting. No way real Yelpers would give this place 4.5 stars. read more

Great hot food, friendly staff, small place so get there early. The wait (if you have to) is well worth it, tho.

The crab Rangoon are delicious but don't order the hot n sour soup. No flavor. At all. And the teriyaki chicken appetizer. Meh. Needed more teriyaki. read more

Ordered the "Perfect Match Roll" off the sushi menu. It's supposed to have shrimp in the roll. Out of 6 rolls there were only 2 shrimp. Quite the rip off I'd say! read more

We followed our noses for a quick lunch. I asked someone sitting next to us what was good? "Everything!," she said without hesitation! We ordered the fried dumplings, the crab Rangoon, general Tso's chicken and shrimp and vegetables. We got our food in record time. The portions were huge for the fried dumplings and the crab Rangoon. Delicious!! General Tso's chicken and shrimp dish were wonderful. We will definitely be coming back. read more

The food was dry and old the heat lamps did not even heat the food up at all it was extremely dirty and I am surprised the health department even allows them to operate I got there when they just opened and the food looked like it had been there for three days and the service was terrible and the restroom was nasty! read more

Very good carry out place. Food is always hot & plentiful. Trucker friendly with lots of parking across the street at Walmart. I recommend the chicken chow mein combo with an eggroll. read more

Food was decent. Crab rangoons were my favorite. I ordered fried rice as well. The fried rice was yellow almost white and I had to add a lot of soy sauce. I'm not used to having to add flavor to my rice so that was new to me. Otherwise, food was ok but not the best. read more

My son and I got General tso's chicken and my wife and daughter got garlic chicken. My wife also ordered us the krab ragoon and a Philadelphia roll. Everything was outstanding fresh and good quality. read more

Stopped here for lunch on a Friday while driving cross-country. Both the service and the food were great. We ordered the crab Rangoon and hot and sour soup to start and then veggie lo mein and veggie egg fu yung as entrees (only $23 for all!). The crab rangoon were gigantic and the portions of everything were larger than expected. The ingredients were fresh and the food was very flavorful and delicious. And we had enough left over for another meal on the road. We will definitely stop here again the next time were traveling on I-70. Hope to try some of the sushi next time (they have a huge variety of rolls on the menu). Especially for a strip mall Chinese joint right off the highway, this place was amazing. read more

Ordered General TSO Chicken. Wow this is awesome, some of the best General TSO Chicken I have had. This is my new favorite place when passing through Rocketdogrc.com read more

Worst entree ever! Ordered habatchi chicken. It was breaded and deep fried. Tough and over cooked. I asked for extra sauce and was charged 5.00$ for it. Are you kidding me?!?! Habatchi chicken isnt breaded or deep fried. Should not be on their menu. I think they use that same breaded chicken for all the chicken dishes. I took it back and got different answers from both people working the front. She refunded me 13 bucks. Any respectable restaurant would have offered me a full refund of $26 read more

I miss this place! The BEST crab rangoon I have ever had. Big, creamy, affordable and delicious. Their sushi is good considering the availability in that area. I always got their garlic chicken. One of the only places in the area that offers online ordering as well which made it super easy to get for lunch during work. Its been a good while since I've been here, but the service was never spectacular. Just the basic drink order, food order, and payment. No frills or conversation or smiles. Lunch was super cheap! I always eat here when I'm home. read more

Love love love this place! Where else can you get fresh made to order food, for a family of 4, for under $20?! Nowhere! If you have only been to Chinese buffets before you are really missing out! Orange peel chicken, hot pepper chicken, general tso's, sweet and sour chicken, curry chicken, veg Lomein, pot stickers, crab Rangoon......all are awesome and keep us coming back. Lunch specials are $5.15 and dinner $7.15! They also send out coupons! We really love this place and probably go too often but we have two small kids and getting take out from here is so nice! read more

This was the blandest Chinese food I have every had. I had high expectations because of the five star rating. It didn't live up to the 5 stars. I wouldn't even give this place 1 star. Both me and my husband felt sick the night we ate the food, into the next day! We will definitely not be eating here every again!! Be warned!! read more

Very good sushi!! Made right in front of you! Staff is very nice. Will be going back very soon!

Awesome food Crab Rangoon fresh was excellent. No freeze isle special on that...We got Lo Main Shrimp and CA Sha pork... both were great big enough I didn't finish the pork. Which was sliced loin with green pepper pea pods, mini corn, and broccoli. Only thing we tried and didn't like was the egg roll it was clearly a freezer isle special but it's ok Crab Rangoon took the blue ribbon. read more

The sushi here is fantastic for the price. Very clean and though it's small venue, I enjoy eating here anytime I'm in Vandalia.

At last a good Chinese restaurant in Vandalia! Everything was fresh In so many Chinese places everything tastes the same, not here though
