We had 3 great meals here while we were visiting. The menu was very good. Service was fast and the staff was very friendly.

There isn't any dedicated parking lots for this restaurant but plenty of street parking around it. It is located in the same space as Witness Distillery. I made a reservation on Google and my friend and I promptly seated at a high top table near a wall. The noise level is moderate but I was able to have casual conversation with my friend. He ordered a burger with mashed potatoes and a Coke and I had the brisket tacos with sweet potatoes and an espresso Martini. The Espresso Martini was more on the creamy side but still good nonetheless. While I believe the guacamole was store bought, it meshed really well with the brisket, cotija cheese and whatever else was on the brisket. The brisket was all protein, no fatty parts and tender. The sweet potatoes fries had sea salt flakes that balanced the sweetness. They were perfect. Everything was really good and my friend enjoyed his meal as well. read more

Hardly ever do I leave a bad review but our experience with this place so disappointing. From the start, we placed an order for an appetizer, then a few minutes later placed our dinner order. The waitress assured us that our appetizer would be right out... we waited and waited then it comes out COLD at the same time they brought out our dinner entrees. Watched others get seated after us as staff mingled around, many walking by (more than once) with no comment. Tables seated after us had drink orders and food orders taken. Made eye contact with more staff, still no luck on "making contact"...feeling pretty ignored and frustrated at this point. Amazing Bar and Restaurant in downtown Vandalia directly across from The Old State Capital. What an awesome concept. I have a degree in Hospitality Management with a focus in Food Service and this establishment is a 10/10 as it is a modern concept in a town that thrives on its history. Wonderful and refreshing design, terrific concept, and delicious food. Even though we were here for dinner this would be the type of place my wife and I would go for drinks on the weekend. Sophisticated and modern it's exactly what we want when getting a night away. I really enjoyed my dinner and thought the potato salad was stellar. I also had the garlic green beans and my wife and kids absolutely loved them! The restaurant was clean, the staff was extremely friendly and even didn't mind my kids running around towards the end when we were leaving. Don't think twice about stopping here, just do it! My husband had the pork chop and a loaded baked potato. He raved about both and said it was the best pork chop he'd had in years. Unfortunately, I got the bourbon salmon and it was very undercooked. I got sick from it and spent the next day paying for my poor choice. I give this restaurant an absolute ZERO rating. My husband and I along with a friend visited this establishment last night and was having a great time, food selection is minimal and drink menu has a lot to be desired but overall works. We like to support local businesses but this owner has ruined this restaurant for me and my whole table. (Several other tables around us we effected as well) As we sat there enjoying our meal we started to hear yelling we all looked up to see what was happening a woman was walking from the back room to the bar in a rant at one of the girls that works there. She was going on and on about something she did and was threatening to fire her. There were several employees around her and not to mention a full room of patrons. The poor girl (who looked very young and quite possibly could have been her first job) was looking around and saw everyone within a 20 foot radius staring at the situation and looked so embarrassed and was about to cry. She waited patiently for the woman to end her yelling by making sure the poor girl knew she was "dead serious" and somehow gained the strength through her teary eyes and bright red face to continue doing her job. I was literally so pissed at this point, all I could think of was my daughter. I only hope this review or at least her story gets back to her parents, as I would never tolerate an employer talking like that to my daughter not to mention a repremand in front of several other employees and a room full of customers. You could feel the mood of every person in that room shift and their faces drop to the floor. We quickly finished our dinner and drinks as my rage grew as I watched this woman who owns the place strut around making eye contact with patrons (me included) and employees without a smile one on her face, she scowled the whole time we were there. I looked up the restaurant's Facebook and imagine my surprise when I learned this woman actually owned the place. As we were leaving my husband tipped the poor girl and told her "this is for putting up with your bitch boss" the girls mouth was so far agaped she couldn't even believe she had anyone to support her. We told her to keep up the good work and don't let that woman get to you, you got this. At least when we left her head was back up from staring at the ground and a smile on her face. Maybe just maybe we helped her get through the rest of the night. We will never support this business again and will make sure to advise anyone who will listen to do the same. read more

My wife and I decided to try Blind Society after a ball game and were pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere. A really nice bar area with plenty of room and a selection of wine beer and bourbon. I went and asked for towels but no one offered to clean it or assist with cleaning- Tables came after us and were served... however many came before us and weren't served yet so we appear to be in good company. Watched several people stand and look around a lot- namely one young blonde female Waited over 50 minutes for food and we ordered our food and appetizers at the same time. Questioned the waitress and we have figured out she is putting in the food spaced apart... none of her tables have food Concerned that they don't have blue cheese for a salad but he ordered a blue cheese burger and she isn't aware of this possible issue. The burger arrived with blue cheese so what happened to the blue cheese for the salad? The world may never know. Burger not cooked medium but it was eaten because we had already waited almost one hour for the meal. Noticed several angry patrons and I overheard people say they would not return This place has potential but locals warned us to not go and stayed the service was poor and the food wouldn't be cooked as ordered but we went because the options were slim and we wanted to be optimistic! We may return but all in all improvements will need to happen for them to stay in business & and I'm always rooting for the local spots. When the server came over, she was confused because apparently another couple had been sitting there but left without ordering (clue???). There was a large softball group there and I was really hoping to be able to order before them so our 2-person order wouldn't get lost behind a 15-person order. They were seated before us so she went to take their order, which seemed to take forever -- don't know if it was them or her. Another server came, though, and took our order and placed it fairly quickly. DH ordered the Society Pub Burger with grilled asparagus. I ordered the soup (Loaded Potato Soup) and Sourdough Grilled Cheese. Our food came out fairly quickly. DH's grilled asparagus had great flavor but was overcooked. He was happy with his burger. My "soup" was definitely not soup -- it wasn't even stew. You could eat it with a fork. While it was tasty, it was not soup. The menu needs to say it's a loaded potato casserole. Wow. Vandalia is moving on up in the world! Blind Society has great food (really...we are terrible snobs) and a great vibe. We had the bleu filet mignon and it was cooked perfectly. The bleu burger was also top notch, and the sweet potato fries were done right--no weird batter, just good fries. They have a kids' menu as well. The space is modern and inviting with multiple spaces--huge nice bar area and then separate dining.
