This is my 2nd review since I've been going to him past 10-12yrs. He always did a good job in a timely manner. This time his hours are only limited & off from Monday-Wednesday. He's always done my uniform alterations but when I dropped off 2 dresses for hem only, he promised 1 week later, when I went he said not ready. Ok, but when I returned week after he was CLOSED for a whole month at his door w/o telling me! So I waited another month to pick up my uniform. When I returned after his June vacation I trusted they were done after such a long time. When I got home, they were NEVER hemmed (already paid him cash $30) to my frustration I went back 4 days later since he's closed M-W. Let's see if he does it right this time. Not only was he open on a Sunday, which was the only day I could bring my dress in, but he dropped everything as soon as my daughter and I came in the door to measure us for the alteration. We were in and out within 5 min (there was no one else in there though). For hemming both our dresses up at least 4 inches and taking in my beaded tulle gown the price was waaaay less than I thought it would be for something like that, which fit my budget perfectly Not only that, but he had them ready on a week, which worked best for me since I needed to have it within two! To top it all off, Thien is so sweet and kind, that it made made whole experience worth taking the dresses in. I dont want to come across as sounding like a pitchman, but seriously, I challenge you to find a better (talent and human nature) person than Mr. Thien. No, it really isn't an exaggeration! I am not a "clothes hog" and I am hard to fit, so anything that is bought off the rack has to be altered someplace. Mr. Thien has made those needed alterations look custom fit. The turnaround is usually a few days for simple stuff like pants hems, but you might plan on a week or so for jackets or inseam work. Its worth the wait! It really is!! If your looking for a chic boutique place that has soothing music, leather seats and an expresso machine, Thien Tailoring is NOT where you should consider going. I used to wear my clothes BIG, I mean HUUUUUUGE!!! I used to think YAH, all these Lady Lovlies LUVVVV the way I look in these oversized pants and bulky shirts. Then one day I lost a button on my oversized jacket purchased at the Big & Tall store and brought it to "Mr. Thien" (as I call him) and asked him to fix it. I made the decision to be a bridesmaid in my best friend's wedding, knowing I'd be 8.5 months pregnant on the day of the event! I'm so glad I went to this tailor. He turned a non-maternity dress into a beautiful, roomy maternity gown by adding some panels on the sides of my gown. I showed him my dress, chose the fabric that I wanted him to use, brought the dress and fabric back to his shop-- and my dress was ready within 4 days for only $35! 2 items: I had a blazer where he added a slit in the back and liner sewn down. He doesn't have the invisible sitch machine like he told me, i didnt want to bother since taking the threading out meant leaving holes in the fabric. Slit was ok but not neat enough for a blazer. $30 still charged me $30 A formal gown brought to him a month before the military ball. 2 layers of fabric wanted to add a slit in the front and hem the bottom. I came back 3 times (not including the inital drop off) since the slits fabric were not lined up at the same places and he stitched them together and you can see totally were they didnt match up ruined gown. Every time i would try it on before leaving and something looked wrong and puckered, I tried to tell him everytime he is nice and said he'll redo it . i finally just took it after the 4th time and see if i can try and salvage my dress, took his stiching apart and found that the cuts that were made for the slits were in two different places about an inch apart. I had to buy another dress to wear for the military ball..... not sure if the dress is salvageable $200 dress ruined. $55 he took off $20 for all the return visits You get what you pay for, not a detailed enough for a seamstress/tailor. He is nice, always people there when I went in but very busy maybe thats why he doesnt take the time with items. read more

I can't believe I've lived in the area all my life and I just discovered him recently. Thien delivers and he knows his stuff! Recently, I bought a suit and I needed a quick turn around. I came in on a Thursday needing to tailor my suit as it was a bit long and baggy in some parts. He made me try on my suit. I barely said a few words and he already knew what I wanted and needed. He showed me a few pictures in a magazine and made sure that was the look I was going for. He asked me when I needed it and I said by Wednesday as I was flying out for an interview. Then he disclosed to me that he is closed Monday, Tuesday, and WEDNESDAY. My heart freaking sank to the floor. However, he understood my situation and was willing to have it done by Wednesday 5pm. I could have hugged the man then and there. He said he was going to call me on Wednesday when it was ready. On Wednesday, he did indeed called me and I rushed over to pick it up. My suit was on point and fitted me well, all thanks to Thien. I honestly could not have thanked him enough, and gave him a bit extra for the great quality alteration and quick turnaround. His charges are reasonable, fair, and a bit lower than places around the area. He only accepts cash or checks. Thien is extremely knowledgeable about style and his skills are impeccable. His place is a bit of a mess with fabric and clothes everywhere, but hey whatever works for him to produce amazing alterations. What made me at ease as well were the amount of suits everywhere. It tells me that many people trust him with suit alterations and he is constantly and consistently working on perfecting suits. We went in today to see if Mr Think could alter a dress for my daughter's prom. He knew exactly what we wanted. He quoted us $25 to insert panels but said we would need to purchase the material and he referred us to SAS Fabrics in Hawthorne. I totally understand having to purchase the material because the color is a dark wine and that can be hard to match. If we find the material we will definitely be back. Funny note, Mr Thin was amazed that we came in the beginning of April when the Prom isn't until the end of May. LOL!! I could tell that a lot of his business is last minute. read more

I've taken my clothes in several times already and he's always done a great job on them all! As a petite girl, I usually have to get my bottoms tailored to fit right since most of my pants are too long. I've gotten original hem on jeans done, taken in skirts to make them made shorter and/or tighter. He is a busy man, he's got a lot of customers so make sure that you take in your clothes several weeks before you need them done so that it works with his schedule. So glad my friend told me about this tailor! Every since a tailor ruined a pair of pants I really liked, I've been too traumatized to trust a tailor with my clothes. Not only did they hem my pants too short, I had to pay for the horrible service. But after hearing about my friend raving about this place, I decided to give it a go.. I brought in two jeans to hem here and they turned out Exactly the way I wanted them and paid only $5 each! The owner is very polite and when I explained to him that one of the pairs were my favorite, he offered to leave it a little on the longer side so he can adjust it later if needed at no charge. I am pregnant and had to get a larger size dress than normal so when I received my online order I was nervous that no tailor would take a job 4 days prior to our leaving date. I hope this guy never retires. I've been coming to Thien's tailor, thanks to yelp, for about a year now. He's been really the best tailor I've ever had. That includes some of the so call high ends in New York. He can fix most things, from simple alternation to high end suits (fully canvassed). He admits he doesn't do functional buttons because he doesn't have the proper tools but most tailors probably don't even know anything about canvasses suits with functional buttons. His price is a fraction of his competitors in the neighborhood. Like 1/2 to 1/3. He has also done a few big item for me and my wife in short notice with excellent results. He stands behind his products. If he made small mistakes (twice some threads came loose) he fixed them no question asked, free of charge. He jokes that he offers lifetime warranty for his work. Most importantly, he's just such a nice person that I have to root for him. He came from Vietnam in the 70's and had been at the same location for over 38 years. He works alone now because his previous partner had passed away. Despite an overwhelmingly busy schedule, he maintains a happy, welcoming personality. And most the time he remembers you by name. A few caveats. If you're in a hurry, this may not be the place for you. Turnover is typically a week or more. You can always ask. He opens four days a week for pick up and drop off and closes three days a week so he can do the tailoring work. If you feel the need to be warmly greeted the moment you're in the store or you'll feel disrespected, this is not the place for you. You deserve to pay extra (at places where they hire someone to greet you). Give him and yourself a little extra time. You'll love this place. read more
