Mr Mr. Peanut Burger with Sweet Tots
    Mallory R.

I order door dash the other night bc I'm lazy and I decided to try a new restaurant. What really sold me on ordering from the wurst bar was the peanut butter burger (Mr. Peanut Burger). Peanut butter burgers are my favorite and if you've never tried one, shame on you. I recently moved here and I'm always on the lookout for where I can find a peanut butter burger in a new city. I ordered the burger with sweet tots and it was ready for door dash extremely fast. I ordered the burger medium and it was cooked perfectly. As far as the peanut butter, it's homemade crunchy peanut butter and I really liked the extra crunch. Tbh the peanut butter looked really sketchy when I opened the box, like sketchy should I eat this what is happening. But it was frickin DELICIOUS. I could've used more peanut butter flavor or a more peanut butter forward burger, but it was well balanced with the bacon and cheese. Not too salty, not too sweet, just right. Now the sweet tots. Anything made out of sweet potatoes is good so you really can't go wrong here. The real star of the show though is the dipping sauce that comes with them. According to the menu it's a "buttercream fluff dip" whatever the heck that is. It smells like Costco wedding cake/marshmallows/candied nuts/a pumpkin patch from my childhood and I LOVE IT. I've never tried anything like it and it just makes sense. Overall, my meal was just what I wanted and I'm pumped to have found a peanut butter burger. The rest of the menu looks just as delicious. Can't wait to try something else.

I hadn't been here in some time and it looks like they did some remodeling. It seems more spacious now. We went on a Thursday evening and there were people there but it wasn't overcrowded. We sat down and our server came over pretty quickly to take our order. We came here because we saw there were some vegan options but there weren't as many as we originally thought. I opted for the cauliflower and cheddar soup, which was straight comfort food and quite tasty. It was rich, warm, and flavorful. I was happy with my selection. My eating companion, not so much. He's vegan and after careful deliberation, he opted for the vegan nachos tots. He said the dish wasn't very harmonious. It just seemed like everything was assembled together but lacked cohesiveness. The dish also didn't come with any type of salsa or sauce, which is a necessity for me. I could tell he was disappointed. So, my review is actually a 3.5, higher for my dish and lower for his. I think if maybe we had selected a bratwurst, which is what they are known flex perhaps our experience might have been different.

Having restaurants closed for several weeks due to a global pandemic is about the wurst thing that can happen for a Yelper like me. Thankfully, The Wurst Bar (among many others) is offering carryout during this time. Not only can I help to support some awesome local restaurants by ordering, I can still find some new favorite places while I'm at it. Using the Yelp app, we placed an order, which was quickly confirmed, and an ETA was given. We arrived for pickup a little early, but at least we got to check out the interior of the restaurant (we were the only people there as we waited). It has a glam vibe to it, with high ceilings and large leather booths, as well as some chandeliers sprinkled around to brighten everything. The person who brought us our food was wearing gloves, and kept his distance -- he placed the food on a high top table and then we were able to walk over and get it so that we maintained our 6 foot distance throughout the interaction. This place is definitely taking steps to keep everybody healthy as they do business. We took our food to a park and enjoyed it in the great outdoors. Usual Brat with Sauerkraut and some Poutine Tots for me, and boy were they good! I did think the tots were a bit pricey ($8, same cost as the wurst), but the gravy that came with them almost made up for that (seriously -- did they give me a straw with this order?) Once the wurst of this pandemic is over, I'll look forward to going there again to dine in person and linger over a board game with friends. Until then, don't wait to check out what the best of The Wurst Bar is for yourself!

Excellent place for burgers and brats. I've never had a peanut butter burger before but I was surprised by how good it is! The Mr. Peanut burger was balanced nicely and they use good quality beef in their burgers and it was cooked perfectly. The Japanese Street Tots are so unique! If you like sushi you will probably like them, they do have a slight fish flavor though so if you hate seafood you might not like them. But the other flavors balanced it out. I also got the Longaniza brat with brioche bun and onions and bacon... would be better with a little cheese but I didn't see that as an option on DoorDash. But honestly it was one of the best brats I've ever had. It's not too spicey, it's had a nice crunch with the skin but the meat itself was nice and juicy. We will definitely be back.

$4 happy hour corn dogs. Great happy hour specials

Finally - after all these years of hype, I had the opportunity to visit The Wurst Bar. Walking in, it wasn't at all what I expected. It's the large, dark, open space with grunge vibe. The high top tables are set to accommodate groups. You don't have to wait for seating, just pick and sit. They do have some booths and low tables too, along with a large, wrap-around bar. Plenty of TVs are dotted along the ceiling to give everyone at least an angle for viewing. No sound but something for the eyes to wonder to when hanging out. They do have a small outdoor patio, but it doesn't look inviting or comfortable. It appears to be where the smokers go, though, I don't think they are supposed to. The Wurst Bar beer rotations are on two chalkboards on either side of the bar, and listed by varietal or flavor profile: Lager, IPA, fruit and fancy, etc. The server will greet you with a menu and a large list of bottles, cans, wine, ciders and cocktails available as well. Most are reasonably priced, and they do carry some of the specialty bottles that run a bit pricier, and hard to find. The staff has all been fantastic, each time I have visited over the last year. The menu is pretty interesting. I particularly enjoy the happy hour. It's 4-6 on weekdays and again at 10pm to close. They have mini corn dogs for $5 on happy hour that are not available on the regular menu. It's a great snack and medium to get to try the assortment of mustard available. I believe they make them in house. The bottles of wine are half off during happy hour, and is a nice little selection. They will re-cork for you to take home if the bottle is not finished. The tater tot nachos are good and interesting, but heavy, which is my only grumble about The Wurst Bar - they don't have much in the way of lite or fresh, like salad, vegetables, soup or options that aren't meat or fried. It is what it is, but this means to be prepared to eat heavy while there. I have also tried the Lobster Rolls. I was super happy with this plate. The buns were toasted and tasty - not just plain bread holding the amazing pile of lobster meat. It was really done well and worth the cost. The sandwich was two rolls with large chunks of meat. I opted for the tater tots on the side. Really good meal. This is not a family place. Please don't bring your children. The bar is located just off Eastern Michigan University's campus and often frequented by students. Parking is not the easiest but check the signs or circle the streets for a metered spot. I always find a spot on Michigan Ave, right in front, but most likely because of the timing of my visits.

Man I'm so bummed, I've always liked the wurst bar but we hadn't been there since the downsize/remodel. We ordered takeout- a burger, their fancy grilled cheese, and tots. The order was 15 minutes late, tot-less, and my grilled cheese which is supposed to be "Mascarpone and mozzarella cheeses with honey and cayenne candied walnuts on marbled rye bread served with sliced apples" appears to be full of unmelted taco cheese No apples either. I've had it many times before and that is definitely not the way it's supposed to be, lol. They were nice about refunding me but I have no idea what is going on in there.

I motioned my wife to enter as she has a hard time with stairs and was willing to wait until 10 AM, but came at my bidding. My wife order the Carne Asada fries and a fountain Coke. She love the fries. I ordered a double cheeseburger slider with bacon ( about $5 ) with grilled onions as standard. The bacon was PERFECT!! Chewy, but fully done; no white fat but opaque fully cooked! Awesome burger. 9 out of 10. I also ordered a raspberry shake. It was good ( 6 out of 10 ) and shared it with my wife. Maybe I am spoiled by super sweet chocolate shakes from White Castle. A pricey over $6. Perhaps skip this one or try a malt. I also ordered Chili Cheese Fries. Bless her heart, Ray cooked mine to perfection, well done fries, melted real sliced American cheese, and she put my chili in a side bowl as requested so I could dip the cheese covered ones on the chili ( I stirred in their hot sauce) and the few uncovered fries, dipped into my raspberry shake. Amazingly delicious. 10 out of 10 for each item: crinkle cut fries, coney beef chili ( NO BEANS!!! ) , and great cheese. Chili should NEVER HAVE BEANS!!! Finally I split a deep fried churro un-filled with cinnamon sugar. 7 out of 10. We took most of that home and I ate some during this review. One silly tiny note. The one unisex bathroom ( the restaurant only has 21 stool seats ) had only one working light bulb in the fixture out of 2 or 3. It was very dim like a seedy bar. I told Ray so hopefully it gets fixed soon. If that last bulb goes in there, I hope whoever is in there has their cellphone flashlight working. Finally the overall vibe is stainless steel lunch counter ( 1950's? ) with a deep kitchen. Seven short stools facing the street, Nine facing the kitchen and a very small tall table with Five matching tall stools. That lone table could be crowded with two customers food, but five? Better only have a beverage and one item, and that would be elbow to elbow. Shout out to Detroit Food Review for his October 3, 2025 review for here. That is how we found it. They do have a drive through if you do not want to climb the three stairs or use the ramp or if the restaurant is full inside.
