Ordered the half shrimp Po boy and half soup. Really delicious!!! Not a huge fan of oysters in my gumbo but it was still really good!

Nice to have a Cajun joint so close to work. Gumbo was slammin, & the po' boy hit the spot. As authentic as it gets.

First time here. Didn't realize this place only had outdoor seating but it was fine because the food was delish and the service was great. Very friendly people. My husband and I ordered the shrimp po'boy and the mixed seafood platter. Everything was so good! Will definitely come back to try other items on the menu. I can't believe I was missing out on this gem! If you're going for the daily specials, get there earlier in the day. I got the catfish po'boy and was not disappointed which surprised me because sometimes there can be too much bread. The catfish was seasoned perfectly and the sauce was delicious. I'm here now, drove 45 minutes, worth it. Enjoyed 1/2 Oyster Po-boy and a large cup of tomato basil artichoke soup, totally delish. Hubby had Shrimp Po-boy and seafood gumbo. Of course had to try the hush puppies. Out if this world. This place is worth the drive and heat. A little hot today but that's okay, it's hot everywhere. Had this place bookmarked for quite sometime. I love me some gumbo and po boys especially the fried shrimp. I'm a huge fan of creole/southern food and I've had my fair share of food from NOLA during 6 trips over there. I phoned in my order and made the trek from Hercules to Benicia. The place has a outdoor eating area and when you walk in to pick up your food, the counter is right when you enter and everything behind the counter is the kitchen. The folks who worked there were super friendly and welcoming. I was super excited to try the food when I got home. When I tried the shrimp po boy, it was just ok. I was thrown off by the cocktail sauce they put in the sandwich. The gumbo was not what I was expecting either. I'm thinking might be a better eating experience if I ate the food onsite rather than to go. I will likely give this place another try. read more

Not the cheapest place to get a sandwich ($14) but well worth it! And the hush puppies are the best thing! I get the Cajun chicken or sometimes the softshell crab sandwich! lines get long during lunch rush so call in! read more

This place is real small. One picnic table for outdoor dining. You order at the small window and wait. The lady at the window taking the orders was really nice. We ordered a shrimp and a brisket po' boy and some hush puppies. While you wait you can watch them preparing your food through a larger window to the left. I observed a gentleman not wearing gloves preparing the food. I watched this gentleman go about his business in the kitchen area never once washing his hands. I guess in this day and age those things don't make sense to this place. The hush puppies were large but didn't have much flavor at all. You get two dipping sauces which you will need. You get four per order. The sandwiches are mostly bread. The brisket was alright, not great. A little on the dry side. The shrimp had no flavor and were chewy. Overall I expected a lot more flavor and spice. I felt like I ate a loaf of bread not a sandwich. Came here based on Yelp reviews. Not sure why this place gets such great ratings. I'm guessing most people that rate this high have never been to New Orleans to experience the real stuff. read more

Wednesday special jambalaya is amazingly authentic and flavorful! I go to the workshop often and order it with a second piece of sweet cornbread for dinner as well as lunch! The helping is large and reasonable too! Nice folks run the place and always friendly service! read more

One of my favorite lunch spots in town, everyone is always super friendly and everything I've ever ordered has been delicious. Great portions, great prices, seriously I could go on. Was here a couple months ago on a busy week day when they had sold out of a few items but the were polite and upfront about it before I even was ready to order so no big deal. I was disappointed after reading all the great reviews. I am from New Orleans and the items I ordered were not up to par. The breading fell off my catfish as I picked up each piece. The hushpuppies were super sweet. Perhaps I went on an off day, but Unfortunately, I won't be going back. read more

A hidden Cajun gem in Benicia that I can't believe I just found out about! I ordered the shrimp po' boy which was amazing, and the portion size will have you full all day! I was also able to sample the jumbalaya while I was there and it was the perfect amount of seasoning, meat, and ingredients to satisfy my craving for NOLA food! I was excited to finally get to the workshop timely so that I could try the amazing food I had been hearing about for the past several years. Today was the day. I ordered the hush puppies and the catfish sandwich. The hush puppies were delicious and the 2 sauces that came with them really worked well. They were not warm though. The catfish sandwich did not impress . The sandwich was cold and it only took me 5 minutes to get home. The corn meal fell off of the fish when I bit into it. The fish was very thin and really didn't have a lot of taste, no seasoning and for a Louisianna style diner it was disappointing. This place is super cute! I came here this afternoon for lunch and I was pleasantly surprised. You order food at the counter and then you can grab a seat on the front patio, which is shaded and inviting. I ordered the chicken po'boy, my friend ordered the brisket po'boy, and we shared an order of the hush puppies. All three items were excellent and very flavorful! The freshly-baked bread for the sandwiches was amazing! And best of all (for me at least), the service was superb. The woman working at the counter was really sweet and welcoming. I've eaten here many times, and I don't know why it's taken me so long to write a review! The Workshop is truly a slice of Cajun heaven set in the beautiful Benicia landscape. The po boys are always a hit; but my personal favorite are the pork chops! Any Tuesday I get the chance, I make sure to swing by and grab myself an order to go! Perfectly cooked and tender, panko breaded, and deliciously tender pork chops are paired with THE BEST homemade mac 'n cheese I've ever tasted. Add a dash of Crystal hot sauce and you've got the perfect meal! It is worth noting that the portions are VERY generous, and can be pared down by ordering a 1/2 order. Definitely one of Benicia's best kept secrets! read more

Don't get me wrong, the food is great, staff amazing but my husband got a po boy and a cup of gumbo and it was $22 before tax and tip, $27 after. The wife and I went there for lunch after reading the reviews on Yelp. I had the soup du jour, corn crab chowder with a half oyster po'boy sandwich and the wife had the brisket po'boy sandwich. We shared a side of hush puppies. The tab for lunch was $30+. Now I understand that the faire here is supposed to have a Cajun spin on it, but the corn chowder was so spicy that it overwhelmed the other ingredients. When I finished the soup, instead of saying "Wow, that was good!" It was more like "Well, I made it through that!". My oyster po'boy was good, not sure I would order it again, but it was the first time I've had fried oysters on a sandwich. The wife's brisket was ok, not off the charts. The brisket had no texture. Brisket should be tender, but you feel some resistance when you bite into it. The hush puppies were good and fresh. I'd like to try this place again, sampling one of the other menu choices. Bottom line: I've had pretty good sandwiches from the Raley's deli for half the price. read more

Omgosh, I can not believe I had not tried this little gem of a place yet. Excellent food, great service. I had no idea what I wanted, but it was a windy day, so the soup sounded like an excellent choice. I had a cream based portabello mushroom soup that was perfectly seasoned. Not too hot (for those with a more delicate palate), but just spicy enough and bursting with flavor. The chef hit the Goldilocks pot of gold with this one. I also had a salad that was topped with grilled veggies, home-made french fried onions, and home-made dressing. I love it when a restaurant makes their own dressing, it's a simple thing to do, and I like to avoid the sugar and corn syrups that are the bane of mass-produced dressings. The grilled veggies were delicious and the onion topping? I didn't expect that, they were light and flavorful. The chef came out to ask about the soup and we had a nice chat about flavors. I love this place, and I can't wait to go back. There is no indoor seating, so if you want to eat your food on premises, go on a dry day. read more

Two words for you: AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS. Tiny hidden gem. We went on a Saturday so I was able to get the Gumbo with cornbread, my boyfriend got the Sausage Po Boy and we shared the hush puppies . The gumbo was just heavenly and I couldn't stop eating until I was stuffed. It came with sausage on top. It was a great touch, as it had a slight spicy kick to it. The Po Boy was simple and classic, but HUGE. He was able to eat the other half for dinner that night. I loved the hush puppies and the cornbread was dense and still moist. I do like mine super buttery and with honey, so next time I'll be bringing my own bottle of honey! We will definitely be back to try all of their specials. The woman at the window was pretty much a rockstar. She was taking orders, bagging/passing out orders, and more all by herself and still had a smile on her face. (You can see it even with a mask on!)
