This is about the food - the bar itself is fine. I had a Hound Burger, a pub style burger with a nice grind of meat. When it came out, however, the bun was so hot I could not hold it in my hand. The bun burned my hand. Same for the floppy opposite-of-crisp fries. Did they heat a fully dressed burger, and maybe the fries, in a microwave? It came out fairly quickly, I suspect it was ready to go but for a blast in the micro to heat it up. There was no pink left in the overcooked burger. My advice is to get a taco or pizza nearby and come here for the beer, drinks and trivia. read more

It was my second time checking this place out. The food was good. Decided to go there and watch the World Cup. The place has outdated tvs with a horrendous sound system. I couldn't hear anything. I ordered food and a drink, went outside to have a cigarette and I told the bartender that I was just going outside to have a smoke. I come back and someone sat in my seat and pushed away my food. I honestly have to update this review. Haven't been back probably since shortly after they opened but I feel like they literally took everything I said in my review and gave me exactly what I wanted and that doesn't happen often. Saw a happy hour sign outside when I went to pick up some Yelp hand wash around the corner and it boasted of $5 pints till 7pm. Ingrid swings around after my pit stop for a peak inside. Twinkly lights are now hanging from the ceiling. I get a more warm and welcoming vibe. The beers on draft now are all craft selections and a wonderful variety to suit everyone's desires: stouts and dark beers, ipas, ciders. A few selections I've never heard of or tried. Gosh darn it, Wolfhound, you make me so proud. Now I will always remember this as a great other option from Judy and Punch if I'm ever in Astoria again. read more

I was there recently for a Mets watch party that my friend hosted. There were a few groups of people that weren't there for the party, but engaged with some of the party attendees without issues. It was a really cool spot for the event where we easily watched the game and mingled. They had great drinks and I heard great food. I didn't eat there, but the food looked great. The staff were really nice and were Mets fans, so that helps lol. Def a cool spot to hang out whether you're watching the game or not. read more

Came here the other night with a friend, was overall disappointment. Dude working behind the bar seemed to have an issue with us straight away, we knew that he had seen us come in as we nodded hello but still walked past us 2-3 times before we had to ask him for attention, while sitting center of the bar, then served us with a frown and hardly even looked at us as we ordered, very rude.. Long haired wanable hipster seemed too interested in chatting with his buddy at the end of the bar. Feels like they only wanted to serve / hang with their regulars who are their friends outside of work it seems like. Wont be back to what seemed like a chill bar to go to but staff make you feel unwelcome. Just miserable looking... Seems to be turning into a dive/punk bar also, not my scene. read more

If I could live at a bar, this would be it. Excellent bartenders who know their cocktails, whiskey, and craft beer, great music and theme nights, and a really friendly and eclectic crowd. Even the bouncers who check ID and vaccination are nice! That is so rare in NYC I almost wanted to cry. Last time I was there, they had two great movies playing in the background, Men in Black followed by Kill Bill. I usually go here solo to enjoy a drink and do some reading, but there are people there for dates, girls' nights, to play darts in the back, everyone just chilling and having a good time. I came in after dinner nearby because I heard a live band playing. I'll stop for live music anywhere but in Queens it's especially rare to stumble upon. By the time I came back in the band was just finishing their set and the music did a complete 180 into rap/hiphop that was too loud to hear your neighbor over. After my friend's birthday dinner we stumbled upon the local joint by chance. We drawn in by the cute dog sitting near the window and went in. It was one best choice we made that night. A real pub just off Steinway Avenue in Astoria. We were out for the first two nights of what I hope will be an annual gathering of some of the leading musicians from County Clare in Ireland with local musicians from the traditional Irish music scene in Manhattan and Queens. The pub does not serve food. The knowledgeable staff can point you down 30th to over a dozen excellent and reasonably priced spots for either lunch or dinner. The customers are all engaged in conversation, as fits the best pubs in our part of Clare. Not a television in sight. A good sound system carries the music from the rear of the pub along the length of the bar to the front. One of the better pints of Guinness is on offer here. As I understand the current schedule Sundays and Mondays have Irish music while Wednesday offers a quiz night. I wish success to the owners. The Wolfhound is open from noon until 4 in the morning. Stop 1 of our Saturday night bar hopping adventure. Came here and there was happy hour on a Saturday and we made 10 minutes before it was up so my friends & I ordered 6 beer & shot specials. The shots were all house liquor (whisky) and but it was not bad. After we took our shots we of course got more shots and we opted for our old Jack Daniels (honey flavor). The service was quick and bartenders were welcoming and kind. The only thing that sucked was that there was only one bartender for the entire bar.
