I bought ABC windows over 10 years ago, and despite how nice everyone was, I want to let you know a few shortcomings. First, none of the drainage holes work. Water sits in the dish holding the window. Second, some of the plastic doesn't wear very well. Nothing major, just kinda cheap looking after 5 or 10 years. Third, the screens have little plastic loops at the bottom. In order to remove them, you pull up on the loops. I just had my house pressure-washed, and so had to remove the screens. Much to my dismay, about half of the loops broke off when I gently pulled up to remove the screens; I had to pry the screens out with a screwdriver. Not good for the integrity of the screen. When I called the company, they laughed, and said that the screens don't last forever, and not to expect the plastic loops to last. I can buy new screens if I want to. read more

Rob & Maureen are nice, but incapable of replacing windows in San Francisco condos. They don't know how to navigate DBI permits, energy rules, and HOA appearance requirements. They're also terrible at communication, unless you take a day off from work to have real-time phone conversations with them. If you live in a condo in SF, steer clear of ABC. read more

We had an appointment with Alex Koustas. He was punctual and very professional. After looking at our window, he determined installing a new window would not help the situation. He was very honest in explaining why and suggested other more cost efficient alternatives. Honesty is critical in my book and these guys are to a fault. read more

Alex came to take a look at estimating replacing our windows, which we thought could be contributing to a leak. He was absolutely knowledgeable and experienced and made us think through other options that could be contributing to the leak vs. the windows. Pretty quickly he determined that they would not be quoting this job but still spent almost an hour talking through potential solutions to our problem and advising us to wait to complete some other checks before replacing the windows and to only do it all at once for efficiency and to save money. He was genuine and was obviously not driven by making money. If this is the way he treats a project he's not going to be getting and working on, I can only imagine what it'd be like to work with him on a paying project. read more

This is a real, old-fashioned, high quality, service conscious family-owned business. They are incredibly knowledgeable, professional, friendly and honest, and stand behind their work. We have had some small water issues around our windows (installed over 10 years ago), and they have come out to see if there is anything they can do to help remedy the situation under warranty. So far it's not absolutely clear what is causing the problem, but they are taking every step possible to do what they can. They have even pulled a few windows out and reinstalled them to see if there were problems with the frames, and so far not. Before we found the old paperwork showing who built and installed the windows years ago, we had called in a number of window folks who said the ABC windows themselves were high quality and should last a long long time, but couldn't really provide suggestions short of pulling the windows. ABC seems more knowledgeable about what sources of water issues and solutions/prevention than any of the others we called. I can't recommend them highly enough. We decided to replace five windows with vinyl replacement windows. Alex came out to measure and prepare a quote. He was punctual and answered all of our questions in a thorough, straightforward and easy-to-understand manner. He seemed knowledgeable about building code (e.g., recommended that one sliding window have adequate egress in case we decide at some point to make it a bedroom; pointed ouot where tempered glass was needed). He provided a written quote within a day, and it was 20% less expensive than the quote I received from another window vendor who had been recommended by our contractor. When I asked for a modification, he again responded very quickly. We decided to go with ABC. Four weeks later, Robert came to install the windows. Like Alex, he was punctual, was very willing to explain what he was doing, and made helpful recommendations (e.g., delaying caulking the windows until we were done hanging drywall, so that the dust wouldn't get stuck in the new caulk). ABC is in the process of replacing the windows in the 27 unit building where I live. They were fast, courteous and extremely professional. They cleaned up after themselves and rehung the window coverings that had to be taken down for the replacement windows. read more

Excellent! I am so happy with our new windows. ABC was totally on top of things- they were quick to come measure and discuss our options. They know their stuff and the final product is fantastic. We have an old Victorian with front windows "out of square"- so they were honest about their abilities and what it the finished product would look like. The installation was very professional, and they even came back a third day to make sure things were perfect. We found ABC Windows through Yelp. I must say they live up to their perfect score. We needed three windows replaced. We had old drafty sliding windows in our son's bedroom and a couple of bathrooms and needed an upgrade. ABC Windows came promptly to take measurement and give a us quote. Windows are not cheap but for high quality windows, it was lower than what we could get from most general contractors. Windows were installed a few weeks after we confirmed our order. They came on time, installed our three windows in 90 min. Very professional. All good. Windows look great. Passed inspection without problem. read more

I had Alex come out to give an estimate on the replacement of 4 large front windows on my house as part of a general upgrade of my exterior. He looked over my job and explained in great detail that the scope of my project was more than his company could handle. He described and wrote out a plan of attack, recommended a couple contractors all without any hesitation. He could have easily sold me expensive wood windows as required by code, but took the time to educate me on the best way to plan my project. These guys are EXCELLENT. They are super knowledgeable and were able to answer questions about some windows I had that were beyond the scope of what they do (glass replacement or skylights). Both Alex and Maureen (estimator and office) were fantastic, as were the guys who came to measure and install. I really appreciate the prompt response from ABC windows. I was given an appointment time shortly after I had left a message on their voicemail, was given a reminder call and Alex showed up right on time. My husband and I knew nothing about window replacement and Alex educated us on reasons why windows need replacing allowing us to make our own informed decision. And he immediately said that they could not do the windows, and spent quite a bit of time explaining to me what this job was going to entail. And he suggested ways for us to go with it. ABC Window was recommended to us by our neighbor who had recently had them install new windows. This is an excellent company and I would highly recommend them for any new windows. Alex Koustas was the first member of the ABC Window team I met with to receive an estimate for 13 new window in our house. First thing that impressed me was that he arrived exactly and I mean exactly on time. He was pleasant and very professional. When he found that placing new windows in our house might pose a problem or two, he called his installation mamager and arrange to have him come out in person to make sure the job could be done well and properly. He explained everything and promptly and drew up an estimate within a few days. On the day of installation, his team arrived again exactly on time and proceeded with the job. All thirteen windows were done within 4 hours. They caulked around all the inside trim very neatly and cleaned and vacuumed everything. The windows are beautiful, easy to clean and very quiet. Job was done exactly to the estimated cost and exactly on schedule. They followed up a few days later and provided all the paperwork I needed for my building permit inspection as well as the info I needed for my tax credit. We've only had the windows for a few months but are very happy with the overall job and the overall cost. read more

I asked ABC for a quote on replacing some double-pane windows with triple-pane, in order to get better sound and heat insulation. I called on a Tuesday, was offered an in-person free quote for the very next day, and was met by Alex Koustas who showed up even 15 minutes early. Alex was polite, extremely detailed, thorough about all the window options, and very candid about how much improvement in sound/heat I could expect to recoup from the job in the first place. With his help, I began to understand that what I'd gain from the upgrade would be minimal at best, and so he and I both agreed the job wasn't worth investing in. It's so very refreshing to have a contractor tell you they don't think it's worth your spending their money on them....that kind of honesty goes a long way. Another company I had called was nice on the telephone but wanted to check out emailed photographs first, and Alex's in-person quote and meticulous conversation really hit the spot. I wouldn't bother with these guys. It wasn't that they did lousy work - they declined the job and it was a waste of time. I was bidding a project that involved replacing 15 vinyl windows. They were the 5th (and final) company to visit. The estimator (Alex) didn't seem to have a good grip on commercially available replacement options, telling me "fiberglass windows aren't available in that size." When I told him I had already narrowed the options to windows from Milgard and Marvin that had already been sized he sort of shrugged and said "well, you have a lot of problems with putting a window here." This is in an existing bay window in a 100 year old building. When I sort of gestured to the window in place he told me that it violated "an international building code." Nice guy and arrived on time but really didn't seem to want to do the job - he wasn't in my house for 60 seconds, start to finish. But (unlike Jane T who also reviewed them although they declined her job also), I viewed this as a waste of my time. read more
