I discovered a broken window in our clubhouse yesterday and called our local glass service company in Benicia. This was my first experience with Capital Glass and I must give them five stars on there customer service and repair / install skills. Jenny took my first call and scheduled a repair estimate / quote the same day. She followed up with me on the quote and scheduled a repair for me the next day and also set our business up as a new account for billing at my request. I am giving two stars because the administrator who does the scheduling was friendly. The next experience is unfortunate because I want to trust a local company. However, the person who came out was late, did not apologize and was unfriendly. He told me both of my windows would need to be fully replaced, and the cost would be about $2000- $3000 each. I next called another company from Vallejo for a second estimate that person simply stated that the type of windows we have have a lifetime warranty from the manufacturer, which I did not know because they were here before we moved in. Thanks to that person's honesty, our warrant send someone out who made a simple adjustment on the windows (did not need replacement) and there was no charge for me. It's frustrating to think we could have spent $5000 to replace windows that actually needed a simple adjustment and also had a warranty attached. Capitol Glass should have been my first call! I initially set up an estimate with a Vallejo glass company that had really great Yelp reviews! The guy who came out to measure was pleasant and said I would have an email estimate within a day or two. Well, after a few days and then a week..... I called to find out what it would cost do I could schedule. No one answered the phone and I got a vm that said they were in training but to leave a message. I did, saying I had not yet received my estimate, left my name, number and address and asked that someone call me back. No one called me back! I called again a few days later, finally got someone on the phone who told me they were closed for training and had to learn their new system and that I was probably lost in the transition! Ugh. Time taken off, chasing them with phone calls, it was a picture of poor customer service I called Capitol Glass and had 100% great service from start to finish! Mike and his team are AWESOME! I am a busy real estate broker. My clients rely on me to get them through whatever obstacles are in their way to get to a successful close. A licensed GC patched and painted over and concealing damaged window sills which was discovered upon inspection. Side note, when I told the concierge service that I would have the work professionally inspected, they said, and I quote, "Why? Doesn't the buyer pay for that?" To which I replied, "And what? Have a problem discovered during the escrow? Then what?" No thank you. The best surprises in real estate are no surprises. Mike removed the old sills and cut on site to fit the new and worked with me to remove any damaged material to do a thorough and proper repair. They also had to replace a large piece of glass on an upper level which weighed a lot with difficult access. This was a picture window with a BB gun hole also missed by the GC. Our experience with Capitol Glass was not positive. This is unfortunate, since I have used Capitol in the past, years ago, but their customer service has really gone downhill. We took time off work to have the measurer come in. He was not very friendly, but worse, he called the next day to say the job was going to cost an extra $100 over the written estimate we were given. He wasn't even nice about it. Needless to say, we decided not to go with Capitol, we felt like it was a bait and switch and that we were being taken advantage of. So glad we went with another company - we ended up with a great job, friendly, prompt service and it cost less the original estimate we were given from Capitol. I will never use Capitol, and since we need all new windows - they didn't play that one right! I gave them 2 stars only because I was averaging their past performance. I knew it would happen eventually. My son put a baseball through the bathroom window. If it were one of the other windows...I'd have an excuse to replace the old windows and get new ones without grids (at least on one side of the house). But since it's the bathroom, and with the economy the way it is, we'll just replace the one window. I called Capitol first since I'd been so happy with their service in the past, and was told that with gas prices the way they are it'd be best for me to try a "local" company first. Even though they'd be going through Pleasant Hill to get to a job in Lafayette tomorrow. I realize it's a small job and maybe it's a business decision they have to make, but still it doesn't leave me feeling quite as gung ho about their customer service as I was before. I mean come on, I'm 15 minutes from their shop (12.32 miles per mapquest). I may be out of luck on replacing the other windows. We've put a ban on batting with a hard ball in the yard. Our little guy is growing up and he hits the ball hard and far enough now that he really needs to be in a field for that. ;) read more

I was told two months and now it's change to 3.5 to also 4 months before I get my door.They also are very horrible about calling and keeping you updated on the progress. The ladies in the office never return a phone call and have attitudes when you question them about why. I high I hope to work with this company but only to proven to me this was a mistake. I called Capitol Glass to inquire about having a living room window fixed. They agreed to come out the next day, between 4 and 6 p.m. I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly they made themselves available. Too bad this is where my positive experience ended: no one showed up. No one called. No one checked in. I myself called at around 6:30, and left a message inquiring about what had happened and requesting a call back. No one ever called back. It seems to me that if they didn't have time or inclination to fix my window, they could have said so. If they weren't going to be able to make it to my house, they could have let me know. And if they made a mistake, they could have owned up to it. These would have been decent choices to make; but the folks at Capitol Glass didn't make a decent choice. We decided to go with Capitol Glass because we appreciated their prompt, friendly service. Delivery was on time and as promised. My patio door stopped sliding, I called these guys, they came out, gave my a quote and came back in a timely manner and put new rollers on the bottom on my door. They even fixed my screen door while they were here. I had also called a company in Vallejo and they came out and told me I had to replace my entire patio door which would cost $1,800. Really? I am very happy with the service I got from Capitol Glass. It cost me $250 which I thought was a little high but still better than the $1,800. read more

I had nine custom mirror orders for frames I had hand decorated for sale on Esty ranging from 11to 30 inches. Mike did an amazing job, even post marking each individual frame with the exact dimensions for each of its coresponding custom cut mirror. I have been very happy with the workmanship and customer service of Capitol Glass Co. We had all the windows and sliding glass door in our home replaced, and were extremely happy with the products and workmanship. Our home was broken into a couple years later, and I called Capitol Glass to come back and replace the broken windows and sliding glass door, and add a new screen security door, and am, as always, very pleased with the results. In response to some poor comments left by unsatisfied customers, people do need to understand that installing windows and doors is not always an easy get in/get out job. The length of the job depends on many factors, including the unexpected, which may take the installers longer than anticipated. I would highly recommend Capitol Glass to anyone. read more

Well, I would have left it at my original comment, but I'm a little floored by the owner comment. Calling an unsatisfied customer "two-faced"? Really unprofessional. I think now everyone reading my review can see the level of "customer service" these guys have. So, not that I need to defend my review since they have just made my point for me, but here we go: We did not say everything was fine, in fact my husband complained to the owner about how these guys acted. And seriously, the door being messed up and ants living in the wall is my fault? We were replacing a newish door that had been improperly installed before we ever bought the house. That was the reason these turkeys got the job and the cash in the first place - we had a messed up door! The mess in the house was not due to the ants. The mess was dust everywhere. The guy even told me "sorry, we don't usually make this much of a mess". My husband spoke with the office, they promised the guys would clean their mess up. They did not. This is a small town and we really love supporting local business, but I think the owner comment says it all - instead of apologizing for lateness, rudeness, and messiness, they add terrible customer service to the list. For what it's worth, so far the window is great, the craftsmanship is good. So if you don't care about giving your hard earned money to people who treat others badly, then by all means, hire these guys. And finally, I don't think contractors need to "beware" - we've had plenty of work done in our house - floors installed, appliances replaced, drywall repaired. NOTE: this is my first Yelp review. I originally received an estimate from Capital Glass in 2010. I decided in early 2015 to finally have the work done and was pleasantly surprised to have the same person re-take the measurements. Everything went as planned on installation day and I am pleased with the results. There was an additional amount of stucco construction required to meet new zoning laws for egress points. Do NOT go to Capital Glass! Six months ago I had 6 pieces of glass cut. I even gave them the plywood patterns that were in the door. When I got home they were all 1/8" too large and wouldn't fit in the holes. So I just put that project aside and planned to have them fixed later. A month ago I had two window pieces cut to replace two windows. Yesterday my worker tried to put them in and one side was 1" too large and the other side 1/2" too large. I called Capital Glass and told them the problem.and they said to bring the two pieces down down. They had to nerve to charge for the recut. Hey! I make my living taking exact measurements. In my line of work. Steamfitter/Welder, if I cut a pipe 1/4" too short I would be fired! So I don"' make mistakes. Again, DON" go to Capital Glass!!!! read more

Unprofessional work practices. I set up an appointment with Jim for 1pm for an estimate. Linda contacted me later to ask if Jim could come in earlier at 10am. I did not confirm the new time. Jim did not show up at 1pm. He showed up earlier at the time they wanted to do the estimate. When I called the office to find out where Jim was, Linda said he was booked for the rest of the day and wouldn't be able to come by at the scheduled time (1pm). Capitol Glass sets up their OWN appointments with no regard for the customer's schedule. read more

Okay, so they do accommodate small orders and I've had several, from aquarium projects to stand-alone poster frames. They're always timely and the lady at the desk is very personable. Except for the last frame cut, everything has been very accurate, even when i'm giving them 16ths of an inch dimensions. They don't pad small order costs either, unlike many vallejo glass shops. Poor customer service. Got my contact info wrong then lost the paperwork from our measurement appt. I had to call to get the quote which they couldn't find the work order or that I was ever on the schedule. Not really apologetic and when they did finally find my paperwork and their quote was almost double compared to 2 other local window installers quote. We have used Capitol Glass several times through the years and have always trusted them to do a quality job. Just recently we had two leaky windows. One was re installed, but one had a crack in the frame as well as a cracked glass. Mike and crew actually verified my warranty from 20 years ago. The company made a new window and frame. Capitol Glass then expertly installed it for us, saving us several hundred dollars. It has changed ownership in the past year but maintain the same quality of service to their customers. Capitol Glass installed retrofit replacement windows in our home in Sonoma and in the process we replaced the master bedroom window with patio doors. I have to say that Jim and his company were excellent - from the initial quote (very competitive) to the installation. For the quote, Jim dropped by and we walked through the house and had a good discussion around different options and cost. At no point did Jim try to "hard sell" any particular product. He then headed off and sent a quote via email a few days later. After getting another couple of quotes for comparison, we went with Capitol Glass since the quote was competitive, and more importantly, we felt confident that Jim would be able to deliver high quality service. For the installation, Chris and Josh arrived around 8:00am and immediately launched into the project. Both were very pleasant, quick and professional -- the whole process was no mess no fuss. Part of the project included knocking out a wall to fit the patio doors in place of a window -- and, again, this was done very well with a "clean-up-as-you-go" approach. By the end of the day, we had 4 great new windows and new patio doors installed. We did have a minor issue with the fly screen on the patio door - it arrived with a slight tear (probably not Capitol Glass' fault). Capitol glass has been such a huge help in restoring my house. I asked them for a full rundown on what they thought I could use and they told me straight up and walked me through it. We ended up with 1 new sliding glass door, 5 new windows, some replacement glass in old windows, rollers on windows and doors, and even helped us cut a bathroom mirror down for size. I felt very well taken care of and they did such a good job of answering my questions because of how hesitant I was. The rollers brought new life to my old doors/windows. The new glass made looking outside a pleasure again. I was happy to find out they cut glass down for mirrors and they were able to help me with that too (they took it down and re-installed). Good crew of guys as I think I ended up meeting every single one at some point over the course of a couple months. I recommend them to anyone and have since brought in a mirror for my mother in law that was part of an ornamental decoration. They can accept drop offs or pick ups for an extra fee. Called Capital Glass on Tuesday morning and the owner came to estimate my replacement of the large double pane window with grids. He was able to rush the order of glass so that it was replaced on Thursday as I had a graduation on Friday and couldn't be home. I had a grad party that weekend and really needed the window in. I have used Capitol Glass for many different projects. We got our fabulous front door from them. It's not the usual "Home Depot glass door". We get lots of compliments on it. We also had them build a beautiful glass shower enclosure for us out of reeded glass. It is wonderful and really completes the bathroom. We went to them for the glass in our glass-front kitchen cabinets. Everyone loves our cabinets. Finally, we have used them for automotive glass in our classic Chevy. It's funny that you think of a glass company for windows for your house or business building, but Capitol Glass does so many other things. We hired Capitol Glass after having gotten two other estimates to replace our windows. Mike (not a salesperson, but installer) came out and gave us the pros and cons of the various products that were available. He was professional, personable, upfront and not "sales-y". Their estimate was much more reasonable than one firm, and more timely than the other. He explained what we could expect during the install, and what things that could be potential problems. When the crew came to do the install, they were nice down-to-earth guys, who cleaned up after they were done. The screen on our slider had a small nick in it, right out of the packaging, but they replaced it the following week. If we ever need any glass work in the future, we will definitely hire Capitol Glass. read more

Capitol Glass recently replaced all of the windows in my parents new "used" home in Benicia. They came very highly recommended by my former boss who is also in a construction trade. I had prompt, friendly, and efficient service from the office staff and the estimator. Their price was almost 20% lower than the other price we got for the same product.
