We hadn't planned on going here as we had intended to try Melissa O' Hare's food truck offerings that were the same offerings a week ago on our first sojourn. She had parked up within a glamping style place with a stunning view of Camlough lake. It was a dull cool overcast grey day. We speculated that Melissa wouldn't be too busy. Wrong as the line was huge. We guessed we'd queue at least an hour but we aren't prepared to queue five minutes especially in this climate of 9 winter months, two autumn months and maybe one summer month. So we ended up here. All four of us loved our food here. I had delicious fish tacos (£16 with a choice of side). The fish was cod in a light batter with fresh lime, coriander, fresh chilli. My first choice of scampi wasn't available. I opted for a chunky chips side to share around as I didn't want them. While 5 star grub it's too expensive for what it is but was the only dish overpriced. I noted from the menu that a fillet steak with fixings is now £40. The desserts (all £6.5) were scrumptious and fair priced - I had raspberry ruffle baked Alaska and a flat white (£3). Cosy place. The staff are wonderful too. Hope we return soon.

I…read morehave been making my way through the best restaurants on the island but the Hawthorn never seemed to be in the picture. My meal today left my wife and I wondering why. We started with some onion rings. They were crispy, not too greasy and full of onion (rather than primarily breading). They also came with a great garlic aioli and a sweet and sour sauce (the type served with egg rolls at a Chinese restaurant). The star of the meal was the Sunday roast. I was recently disappointed in one down the road and even the best I had on the island was just good. This one was great. The lamb was tender and felt freshly cooked. The Yorkshire was huge. The roasted potatoes were clearly made fresh and made properly. The mash was also clearly home made. Even the carrots and green beans tasted like they were just made. Overall, a great meal and I plan to return.

The local scallops or Queenies are the tenderest and tastiest bites and pair well with the pancetta sauce. The mushrooms aren't stuffed but are sautéed and floating in a sauce of blue cheese. Get an order of focaccia to dip in ALL of the sauces. The gin fizz was very good - not to sweet. The staff was very polite and efficient and they were constantly buzzing around cleaning and organizing. Very good spot.

Barking Dog Restaurant - beef shin burger is definitely not your average burger

I've had my fair share of memorable burgers from coast to coast in America, but just glancing at a picture of the beef shin burger transports me back across the pond to the Barking Dog. I remember the few days I spent in Belfast fondly and of the many memories, my meal at the Barking Dog was a definite highlight. In a rather quaint and charming neighborhood, I took a nice short stroll from my Airbnb and came across this gem of an establishment and decided I had to check it out. I had a nice beer to start, and it wasn't a Guinness because stouts aren't my thing, but whatever it was I remember it being excellent and local. Undoubtedly you could make this place a regular haunt and there is no shortage of drinks and food options to make this a go-to for a date, celebration, or a quick meal. The staff are welcoming, kind, and helpful and the general atmosphere is chill. The food for me was ethereal - a burger isn't just a burger here and what you get when you bite into the beef shin burger is a little slice of Heaven. Moist and tender are a given but the taste is just so divine with the caramelized onion, cheddar, and horseradish mayo melding into an union of perfection. It's hard not to describe one of the most memorable meals of my life in such hyperbole but the vivid recall I have of this particular place is uncanny and merits all the praise I can heap upon the fine folks that run the place. If timing had worked out, I would have eaten as meals here as I could have but I'll thank my lucky stars for at least giving me one opportunity to eat such a wonderful burger at such a wonderful eatery. A+ and a definite must when visiting Belfast.
