This is my favourite place to eat in Bangor now. The food never disappoints. Over the Christmas period me and my friends decided to have a few drinks and a bite to eat, but didn't really want to venture out of Bangor. So Jamaica Inn was the easy choice. The beer garden is fantastic (although a bit cold this time of year) it overlooks the sea and a great view of ballyhome beach. Lovely on a summer night. Also dog friendly if your out on a walk and fancy a quick pint. Let's get down to the food. For me it really is the best in Bangor. I always go chicken strips but this time I decided to mix it up and go for a chilli chicken pocket. Pretty similar to be honest (but still a change) once again it was outstanding! My friend had the fish and she couldn't say a bad word about it either!! The staff are brilliant, always asking can they help. Offering to refill our drinks, you name it they would do it. The only thing about here is if you fancy popping in you might need to call and book a table. I've been in a few times and I haven't got a table and been turned away, but saying that it's a great sign for a restaurant. Couldn't recommend this place enough.

Probably the best chicken goujons that I have ever had. I would only give them a four not five stars as the meal sizes seems inconsistent. My chicken kebab was amazing. It was huge and it would have fed three people also came with a side. My meal was way bigger than my friends. Also one of my friends got twice as much sweet potato fires than the other. The menu has loads of fish dishes. The view over the sea is amazing. The place also could have been and bit cleaner and tidy. Drink spilt on the bench I was sitting on and on table and not wiped clean. Also toilets had hand towels and toilet roll lying around. There where also lots of flies.

I last reviewed The Jamaica in 2010 and since then not much has changed, still 5 stars. Today myself and a few friends thought it would be an ideal place to watch the Tall Ships leave Belfast Lough and we weren't wrong. The beer garden offers unbeatable views over the Lough and there's plenty of standing and seating space. Today was a particularly busy day in the Jamaica Inn and I must say the staff dealt with the crowds expertly. We were never waiting at the bar longer than 30 seconds before a server acknowledged us and then proceeded to take our order. If you want to eat at the Jamaica Inn I would recommend booking in advance, as when we entered the interior we were told that all the tables were booked up in to the evening. Although you can order food if you manage to find a perch outside.

Another classic of the Bangor pub scene. On a sunny day you won't find space to move in the Jamaica. The picnic benches out the front, overlooking the sea, are the perfect spot for an ice cold magners (You may not be feeling it right now but wait for those summer afternoons where the sun is shining and young men seem to have misplaced their tshirts). On those not so sunny days the Jamaica is still a popular eatery, with the chilli chicken pitta being order of the day for most people. The staff are helpful, always trying to accommodate. Although, I do think the chef may have been taking the p*** when he put my plain burger in the middle of a giant plate (see picture). What can I say - I'm fussy'

Jamaica Inn is one if Bangor's most loved pubs and with good reason! Its proximity to the sea makes it a great place to grab a pint after a long walk on the beach. It's outside beer garden is excellent with plenty of seating and great views of The Irish Sea. My last visit was the same day as the close of the Tall ships festival and Jam Inn, as its affectionately called, proved the perfect place to watch the boats sail to Whitehead. Jam Inn isn't just good for pints, it's also a great sit for food with a really diverse menu with everything from seafood favourites like mussels to nachos for sharing. If you're not a Bangor resident and you're visiting beautiful North Down make this the pub you call in to for a pint.

Went here today with my family for lunch. They were up in Newtownards for a visit and I promised we would eat somewhere by the sea. The views are amazing; crashing waves a stones throw away, sea-life and a vision of Carrickfergus and beyond. We had a small baby with us and this proved to be both good and bad. The highchair was disgustingly dirty - so bad there was an emergency run to the car for wet wipes to attempt to clean the thing - totally gross! On the good side we went on a Tuesday and they offer free lunches for children. There is a buy one adult meal get a free kids meal with a maximum of two free meals allowed. My nephew ordered chicken and mash potato and for free. Happy days! My dinner was so beautiful - chicken in pitta bread with salad and chips! Really tasty and the Thai sauce drizzled on it gave it an extra kick. Lunch for three - two mains and one child, two teas, one alcoholic drink and a soft drink for under thirty bucks - bargain - fine eats and fine views!

The tables by the entrance are the best but don't be fooled by the small appearance its like Dr who's tardis as the space through the next set of doors there's a massive room for dining or dancing. You have to park in a car park on the opposite side of the road which is a bit inconvenient but its just added character and the food was nice too. We'd love to go back sometime soon .

As for the food, we have eaten in a lot of places in a number of countries but this was as good as anything we have come acrooss. And the finishing touch was dining beside the huge log fire on a freezing winter night. It was so good that we went back another couple of times during our week's stay. We are going ti Ireland again shortly on holiday and Saltwater Brig will be our number one priority for another visit. We were back in Ireland for another holiday in November. The Saltwater Brig was top of our agenda for a return visit.......and we weren't disappointed. Once again everything about it was superb - the beautiful location beside Strangford Lough, the cosy surroundings and the welcoming staff (especially Olive who is the friendliest waitress you could meet). Then there is the food. The extensive menu is fantastic and we cannot speak highly enough of its quality, and all very reasonably priced. If you enjoy "a taste of Ulster" put The Saltwater Brig on your MUST VISIT list. We guarantee you will love it.

Long Before my National Insurance card came off the press I was thrust into employment at Jenny…read moreWatts. My Mum convinced me that working at one of Bangor's busiest bars would help round my character. To this day I am not sure if it did, but one thing is for sure the labour I undertook will help me give you the inside track on Bangor's oldest licensed premises. Jenny Watts is the Grandfather of pubs, it is quirky, full of character and can be quite entertaining if you ignore the tobacco stains. But much like an elderly relative it has one or two very interesting stories to tell. Legend has it Jenny herself was a famous 18th Century smuggler, regulars in the bar will tell of long winding caves that run from under the pubs deep cellar all the way to Bangor Bay. Having worked in Jenny Watts I can unfortunately confirm that this story is just a myth. But it is stories like this that help to mould an establishment. Tourists and Locals intermingle in Jenny Watts creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. If you are looking for a traditional Irish pub atmosphere then look no further. In the winter locals huddle round the open fire sipping Guinness and swirling sixteen year old whiskey. In the summer the enclosed Beer Garden is full to the brim with holiday makers drinking cider and sparkling rose. All this accompanied by live music all year round makes Jenny's perfect for any occasion. Jenny Watts also offers a full Bistro menu making it a very difficult place to leave. One tip from me, if you are going to Jenny Watts make sure you ask the friendly staff or locals if they have experienced any spooky happenings, I am sure they will not disappoint.

Its an old style pub with a lovely homely feeling and really is a cracking place to go and have a few pints or some red wine. It has a lovely wee beer garden/smoking area out the back that is brilliant craic on a summers evening and really adds to the ambience and atmosphere of Bangor's oldest pub. The decor is oldy worldy and the pictures on the wall must've started a million conversations. There is a club upstairs on a Saturday night but its for the older divorceé crowd so I've never been. There is usually some nice acoustic pub singers downstairs so thats enough for me.

This pub has been standing since the 17th Century, they know a thing or two about hospitality. Our party of five made ourselves cozy in the sessions corner as the pub keeper offered to light a peat moss fire for our comfort. They sell tee-shirts and tourist patronize this place, on account of it being a very old, beautiful Irish pub, but there were a few locals enjoying a pint when we stopped in. One of the owners is American, and I was surprised to see JFK Memorabilia in the smaller room. They have antique oil lamps, old firearms and assorted things on display for patrons to muse. They proudly serve Bushmills and even their own brand of Crosskeys Whisky, but I got a gin and tonic and enjoyed the Northern Irish craic that was on full supply on this June day.
