The saltwater brig, been here twice. Good distance from Belfast but a nice scenic drive away. Rustic traditional interior with a lovely warm open fire in the front part of the restaurant. There are two parts to the saltwater brig the front bit which I very traditional looking and old fashioned , big open fire, really cosy the front bit, then you've got the restaurant bit at the back which is traditional pub/country restaurant decor quite cosy too lots of ornaments, wall plaques etc. There is a big beer garden out the back , good few seats and quite a large area. Food now we got the roast of the day , topside beef and soup with wheaten for starters was £10.95 each. The soup was vegetable and was lovely and the wheaten was lovely too, the dinner you get 2 big slices of roast beef , champ, 3 roast potatoes and chunky veg, cauliflower, brocolli and carrot. The champ was nice, creamy, smooth. The vegetables in my opinion were too hard, the beef was a nice taste but a little bit chewy and I had trouble cutting it with a butterknife. The roasties were overcooked and mines had a slightly sour taste too them. Gravy was nice but not much off it on the plate. I think the meal we got previous was nicer , I cant remember what I got but I think it was chicken and the food was nicer last time we went. We got two coffees which the cup was half filled with coffee but the coffee was nice and came with a wee biscuit which was nice. There is a wee toy box with kids books , few toys etc to keep the kids occupied which is good, kept our toddler amused for a while. The staff are friendly and attentive. There is a car park outside the saltwater brig with free parking and is a big car park. I would go back to the saltwater brig, nice cosy place . Would like to try other food on their menu, nice spot for a family meal. read more
