Based on the location and decor, one would not expect too much about the food. Our group of 4 ordered 4 different dishes, with mine being the pan fried Hake. Well let me tell you, all 4 dishes were licked clean by the end of the meal! That should tell you something about the taste. We were initially blown away by the presentation of our dishes. Again, we didn't expect such level of presentation that's typically seen at fine dining establishments, not a rusty boat in the middle of a small town. Once we tasted our food we were even more surprised as all 4 dishes were as delicious as they looked. This restaurant is a must try if you're in Belfast!

I've never been terribly impressed with it though. I ate in it a few times, and they've a decent menu covering the usual sorts of things - sandwiches, baked potatoes, chicken dishes, lasagne, roast dinners, etc. It's seems to be another of those "depends who's working" sort of places. I had a chicken dinner in it one time, with mashed potatoes, vegetables, gravy, and all the trimmings for around £8, and it was a really good Sunday dinner. However, on another occasion I had the lamb, which was so unbelievably tough that I bent the fork when trying to cut it! They do a good "clean" fry as well (see Biddy Duffy's review), but the thing with this place is that you always seem to be waiting forever. It's not unusual to wait a half an hour for your food in here, which is quite a wait. There's a sign that mentions something about fresh food taking longer to prepare but, unless you're out the back saying your last goodbyes to the pig, there's no reason for something as simple as a fry taking half an hour - nor are any of their dishes special enough to justify that sort of wait. Waiting staff are friendly and polite though.

I ordered the fish and chips and, when I was finished eating, I specifically asked for the remainder of my food to be taken away and boxed up so I could bring it home. After we received and paid our bill, I sat waiting for my leftovers to be returned. They never came. We eventually asked our server, Matthew, where my food was, and he told me it had been thrown away because I had supposedly told him to throw it away. I absolutely did not. I had specifically asked for it to be boxed up. Mistakes happen, and although I was understandably frustrated that food I had paid for was thrown away, what happened next is what completely changed my opinion of the experience. When I expressed my frustration, Matthew told me to "get over myself." I was genuinely stunned. There is a huge difference between making an honest mistake and speaking disrespectfully to a paying customer after that mistake is brought to your attention. An apology or even a simple attempt to make the situation right would have gone a long way. Instead, I was spoken to dismissively and made to feel as though I was the problem for questioning why my food had been thrown away. We are visiting from the United States, and I was excited to experience local places while here. Unfortunately, this interaction left an awful impression. I hope the owner or management sees this review because regardless of the misunderstanding over the food, telling a customer to "get over yourself" is completely inappropriate and unacceptable customer service.
