Ronin Cooking - Desert under moonlight sky

This is without hesitation a 5+ star experience. These farm to table supper parties are held…read moreduring full moons which really adds such a great ambiance. Stepping back, this farm located outside of Bryan, Tx owned by Chef Bryan and wife Amanda, both of whom are great and down to earth couple that they now have incorporated a commercial kitchen that allows them to host these type of events. As part of the spread this farm has all the normal trappings you would find, i.e. chickens, pigs, etc. The couple are relatively new to the farming scene and as part of the animal tour they share their learnings of what's worked well and what hasn't which most people don't normally like sharing any of their shortcomings. Once the farm walking tour is complete you head back to the long outdoor wooden tables and benches all backed up to one another making a nice long long table that seats about 40-50 people, all appointed nicely with decoration and candles. To add to the experience are the outdoor lights strewn above head across the tables and tree branches. Something you would see in movies. After everyone has been seated and you've had time to finish your introductions with the other people seated next to you they begin serving their 9 course meals. All of which come from either their farm or anyone of their neighbor farms. These dishes aren't large dishes but give you an idea of the varied seasonal produce Bryan and Amanda grow. All the dishes were very tasty and some better than others, but you could really taste the natural organic flavor from what they picked from that day. As far as drinks its bring your own wine or beer so that helps keep the cost per individual to a very reasonable price at about $125+ tax p/person. By the end of the night the evening is finished off in the garden area that you follow the candlelight trail where everyone gets served coffee and desert under a full moon. How cool is that! So whatever you plan on doing next months full moon, drop what your doing and come here NOW! You won't regret it and you'll be wanting to come back again.

I have no hesitation giving them five stars. I came here for the Deer Moon dinner and it met and…read moreexceeded my expectations. They have full moon dinners every month with nine small courses. It is a pricey dinner (ticket sales close a few days in advance) and it's north of Bryan, TX (about 1 hr 30ish mins from Houston), but the ambiance and menu are unmatched. Ours included meats like octopus (I requested a sub and they did fish), venison, beef, and chicken. All Texas local ingredients, all freshly prepared. I'm talking dishes like fresh tagliatelle with venison and hyssop, homemade squash dumplings (possibly my favorite, but it's hard to pick a single favorite course), jerk chicken with sweet potato croquettes, and mille-feuille with a smooth chocolatey filling for dessert. It's BYOB and they send out pairing suggestions beforehand. They accommodated our meat substitution requests without issue. I loved getting to eat under the beautifully lit trees with the rustic table setting. We had a short tour of the farm before dinner and got to see their garden and some piglets running around. I honestly thought maybe the ambiance would be the big draw for me and that the food would be second, but this was truly one of my favorite meals of the year.

Everyone was super helpful and great! We loved all of the servers: very attentive 5/5: flavor of the food! We had the 4 course meal for the supper club. To start we had the scallops which were great but small, the crab succotash was good but needed a little more flavor- it also had some crab shells that my husband found in it... then we had a salad- flavorful but small.. third course of wax the lamb chops and this was the highlight of the entire meal- WOW!!! But still if it had had one more chop, it would have been more of a better portion... 4th course was the Belgian chocolate soufflé- we both enjoyed this course but I don't think it should have been called a soufflé- it honestly was more like a brownie in a mug type dessert- it wasn't a soufflé texture, more brownie texture 3/5: portion size: DC was delicious but kept you wanting more. I think if they want to make sure their customers are fully satisfied, they should provide some table bread and butter- this could keep the cost the same but make sure people weren't wanting to make popcorn whenever they got home. We were slightly less content because of portion size. It also would make the time between arriving and the first course not seem so long if there was homemade table bread. There needs to be some sort of filler as there were very few carbs in the meal overall. 4/5: environment: the set up was really nice! Loved the live music and the decor but the chairs weren't comfortable- hard to have hard cold chairs whenever you are having so many different portions to a meal. They need some cushions or something. Overall, like I said, we had a great time and would definitely return! We just see some potential improvements that we hope could put the cherry on top for people attending the DC events in the future .

The spaghetti sauce was rich tomato without overly zesty and the meatballs were seasoned perfectly. The tea is wonderful. The service was friendly and efficient AND we finished it off with the chocolate toffee mouse cake which was over the top decadent. What a wonderful place to eat and relax. The ambiance is truly Italian finesse and relaxing.

The restaurant is nestled downtown College Station where you can walk up and down the Main with cute lights when it's night and some entertainment down the road. The restaurant is on the corner and the inside was very clean and you can tell it has some history. A person, who I believe was the owner, greeted us and sat us down right away. The vibe is fairly quaint and the ambiance is dark but chill. The menu is minimal but I love that there aren't 100s of options. We were greeted by a very nice server who offered fresh baked bread. While I live for fresh baked bread, this tasted old and stale. It didn't taste fresh but almost as though it had been sitting out for some as it was dry and super chewy. What we ordered: - the lobster w/lobster and added shrimp: pasta was perfectly cooked But the sauce was missing one crucial ingredient....salt!! My son, who is 12, also noted it was very bland and lacked any seasoning! He put salt and pepper and said it was much better but needed a lot of help! The lobster and shrimp were a bit over cooked as well, it was slightly rubbery. - the lobster (substitute lobster for chicken): the same review as the dish above, but the chicken was a bit dry and over cooked. - mozzarella garlic bread: this was the highlight of the meal! Very stringy like they used fresh mozzarella and garlicky just like we like it with marinara sauce! - calamari: one of my son's favorites but he noted they seemed frozen and not fresh! He couldn't eat it because the calamari was very tough and chewy! It was a major let down! While I appreciate the concept, and maybe it was an off day when we went, we'd think twice about going there again! The service was impeccable but the food is why I have it a 3. They have three different sauces to try, including a mustard-based one that was interesting. (I liked being able to control my sauce mixings) There are free white and wheat bread and a good spread of fixings like pickles, onions, and jalapenos. We came in for a late afternoon lunch, (post-lunch rush) and it was super quiet. This was our first meal back in the College Station/Bryan area so it was a pretty easy, low-stress stop. Staff was efficient, and there's a patio area if the weather's nice. They also run daily specials.

I'm sure the price for this place is reasonable, just overall expensive in general. Anyways, I ordered the "I want it all" dinner pack which consists of 1/2lb beef, 1/2lb sausage, 1/2lb chicken, 1/2lb ribs, and 2 large OR 4 small sides which we chose the mac n cheese, smothered green beans, corn, and mashed potatoes. I also ordered a side of pork belly and banana pudding. Everything was very flavorful especially the brisket, beef rib, and pork belly. The chicken and sausage were ok. I did a takeout order so my pics don't do this meal justice from that traditional all on one pan bbq presentation look. Overall, it is a delicious and I'm sure reasonably priced joint. We'll be back whenever we crave for some bbq. Staff were friendly and fast. Lots of parking and tables to dine at.
