Made a reservation for 5:30 arrived early and able to get seated at 5:00. We are from out of town but visit the area often, always wanted to try this place. Finally did and glad we did! Service was fast and friendly. Drink was Miami Vice, little too sweet at the bottom but still good. Jerk Chicken - sauce that comes with it was hot! I ordered it hot, it was nice to actually get something with some heat and flavor. Large portions. Curry Lamb was also flavorful and DELICIOUS . What a find! I can't believe such an exotic and colorful place with such delicious food was near the bike trails we were on this week. I have never cared for jerk from previous places but their jerk chicken was out of this world. We almost licked our plate (had the jerk nacho starter.) My main course was the coconut crusted mahi and was just beautiful. Our server was quick to check in on us as needed, was friendly and recommended the painkiller cocktail which was DELICIOUS! After over a decade of never getting around to it, we drove up from Duluth for dinner at The Whistling Bird. Dinner and service were terrific. The colorful restaurant stands out in downtown and we were greeted kindly by the hostess. My wife and I swapped entrees. The Rasta Pasta turned out spicier than she likes. It's got a warm, back of the throat, curried spiciness I love. She enjoyed my Jerk Chicken. Fortunately, I hadn't poured the sauce on it yet! We'll be back. read more

We visited the Whistling Bird while up skiing in Giants Ridge. I had heard all about it and it didn't disappoint. Fun atmosphere, great drinks and delicious Caribbean food. Been going here on and off for 15+ years, definitely NOT disappointed this last time! Hard to find flavor and uniqueness in this area, but here it is! Flavor, variety, and vibe all here! Jerk anything, pork, chicken, whatever, is all amazing! Deep flavor profiles! Although I'm normally a jerk gal (and love the Rasta Pasta), I got the sweet curry this time with sweet potatoes and plantains--WOW! Addicting and huge portion! Negril nachos are some of the best nachos ever! Even the bread basket that comes with the meal is out of the park! Will have a great lunch for the next two days with my leftovers! Service is great, manager was VERY helpful, considerate, and social. Only negative is that it's a little hard to get a spot (small place) and they put mushrooms in my hubby's pasta when he said specifically NO MUSHROOMS! We were passing through on our way home from a paddle trip in the BWCA, and were excited to find this place just 20 minutes away from our hotel which was surrounded by far less appetizing options. The cocktail menu features a lot of fun options. I had a bourbon pineapple smash which was a good refreshing tropical drink. We shared some nachos to start which were quite good. The salads were good as well. I had the house made chimichurri dressing which was delicious. I had the Jamaican jerk pork tenderloin for my entree. It was flavorful, and the spicy version had some heat, but wasn't hot enough to send me reaching for beverages and tissues. Others in our group had the chicken and enjoyed that a great deal as well. The portion of chicken is huge! This could be shareable if people aren't super hungry. The pork was a more reasonable portion and worked for one person. Service was good, but they were definitely understaffed. Our server said he was called in at the last minute as others didn't show for their shifts. We didn't mind things being a little slow though since we were relaxing and enjoying the atmosphere. read more

Numerous tropical rum drinks on the menu - some with cool tiki head glasses. The food is authentic and awesome; Jamaican jerk pork/chicken, shrimp dishes, curry, and lamb. I had a terrific Caesar salad followed by a curry dish w/ sweet potato & shrimp. - the ice tea seemed homemade and very tasty. Give it a shot. read more

I would STRONGLY not recommend this place to eat. We order carry out, they had told me it would be 20 mins. I had showed up, the bar floor was sticky, the host/waitstaff had not even acknowledged me. I had to break up a conversation to ask for my order, 45 mins later my food had arrived. When I had got home, I opened up my to go boxes and part of my order was burnt. The next day, I realized my debit card was not in my wallet. I called the restaurant and received their voicemail so I left a message one hour later I called again and the host that answered the phone said the manager was too busy and would call me back in an hour and fifteen minutes, so I waited. 4 hours later I called back the host said again the manager was too busy and will call me back tomorrow. This absolutely unacceptable! If the manage cannot tend to their patrons maybe their in the wrong line of business, I paid for $80 worth of burnt food and very poor service. This small bright resteraunt in the small town of Gilbert is a hidden gem. It's a bit pricey but the menu is filled with Caribbean choices of food and drink. We had the shrimp skewers wrapped in bacon and nestled on grilled pineapple and coconut chicken breast. Both were delicious but the shrimp skewers and grilled pineapple were a favorite all around. A few fruity tropical drinks including the pickled pear and island music made me feel nice and relaxed. Staff super friendly. Hope to be back again soon. read more
