I am genuinely grateful that Saigon Cafe exists so close to home. When I'm craving something beyond the standard Midwest "Asian buffet" fare, this place is a relief. I often feel for Asian restaurants in the Midwest because survival seems to demand a menu that's heavy on generic, Panda Express-style dishes, with only a few items that truly reflect what the restaurant is meant to offer. Thankfully, Saigon Cafe strikes a much better balance. Everything I've tried has been relatively authentic and consistently tasty. As an Asian American, and with this being a Vietnamese-centered restaurant, I almost always order the pho. The rare steak pho is my go-to, and it does not disappoint. The broth is rich, aromatic, and very authentic, and the soup comes with all the proper garnishments: Thai basil, cilantro, mung bean sprouts, lime, hoisin sauce, and sriracha. It's comforting in the way good pho should be. The fried dumplings are also worth ordering, with a generous portion and solid flavor. Service here is very good, especially considering how busy it can get during the weekend dinner rush. The staff stays attentive and efficient without making the experience feel rushed. There's no formal parking lot, but street parking nearby is plentiful and hasn't been an issue. If you're in Virginia and craving Vietnamese food that goes beyond the usual Midwest defaults, Saigon Cafe is absolutely worth supporting. read more

Had not been there for a while. The food has gone down hill since then. Used to be good. Not good quality of food.

Now this place doesn't look like much as you walk by or place an order for pickup but anything you order makes up for flavor. Upon arrival it look like a small hole in the wall diner with some cheap knock off Asian collectibles. I'm a sucker for getting my usual Chicken Fried Rice but this time I went for the Shrimp Fried Rice instead with some Sweet and Sour Chicken to go with it. I'm never disappointed with the fried rice cause it has so much flavor to offer. As far the sweet and sour chicken, it's filling, the chicken is moist but the breading has absolutely no flavor, and as far the sweet and sour goes it could use some work. It's water and makes the breading on the chicken soggy which is unpleasant to eat. I think what disappoints me to is that they aren't throwing in Fortune Cookies. Who doesn't enjoy a good fortune? I have dined here for some time. Mongolian chicken or beef is my favorite. I have also sampled the Chicken Egg Foo young and the portion is large and gravy is good. Egg rolls are excellent. And the Chicken Fried Rice is the best I have had anywhere. read more

My husband and I visited here 5/29/18 @ 2pm. The place is small but very clean wait staff very friendly and offered suggestions to try. Limited menu choices but good choices. We had Mongolian pork prepared mild. Tried egg rolls which were very tasty. The breading was light and crisp. Would have been cool to try this place, but after ~50 rings, no one was answering their phone (at 7:00 on a Saturday night). Whoops.

My wife and I visited Saigon café again last night. The dining room is still very plain, but it's also very clean and tidy. There were five tables being served, including my wife an I. Four tables of two and one table of four. We were served within one minute of sitting down. Service was polite and we were asked for our beverage selection before being offered menus. We placed our order and our appetizer came out in about five minutes. Our main course came out ten minutes later. The food was very hot, and in ample proportion. Neither of us could finish what we were served so there will be leftovers for lunch today. (When the waiter asked if we wanted boxes for our leftovers she also asked if we'd like additional rice to take home. This was a nice touch.) The menu has changed a bit since I was last there. Most menu options are Chinese but there is one page dedicated to Vietnamese fare. Egg roils over rice noodles and Pho are what I recall seeing. A table near us ordered Pho and it looked good, served with hoisin and Sriracha sauce, sprouts, and what appeared to be cilantro and Thai basil. The only disappointment I can report is that the server did not check on us after the main course was served. Overall a very good experience and I'm upping my rating to four stars. The Mongolian beef and egg rolls are awesome! The building itself is a bit sketchy but the food is delicious.

Got take-out with husband. Chicken egg rolls, pork egg rolls, Chicken and Vegetables and Sweet and Sour Chicken. The egg roll stuffing was pulverized mush, not chunks of meat and vegetables . I couldn't tell what was in it and the stuffing flavor was bland. Our Chicken and Vegetables was flavorless with no sauce at all. The Sweet and Sour Chicken sauce was way too sweet and too heavily dyed with food coloring. We won't be going back. read more

I have been eating lunch here for over ten years. The meals cost about the same as McDonalds and the service about as quick. In addition the meal is nutritious. This is the only Asian place in town that hasn't gone to the yuchy buffet format. The evening meals are also very good and the portions are generous with usually enough food for lunch the following day. read more

For years this has been regular stop for our "lunch bunch" and for good reason. They have outstanding specials and great food. My favorite is their wonderful Mongolian chicken on Tuesdays. I rely heavily on Yelp for reviews so I felt compelled to write a review about Saigon Cafe. I was in the area on business and the restaurant was recommended by a few locals-- I try to hit local restaurants when I travel. That being said this was the worst restaurant I have ever been to. Despite the fact that there were 3 parties (including mine) it took well over an hour to get our food. The waitress didn't even stop by once to tell us why our food was taking so long the size of the restaurant. If you ask me, it seems they were catering to the to-go orders while we sat and waited without acknowledgement. An hour and fifteen minutes later, our food arrived. It was terrible- my meal was cold while my side was hot. I ordered the hot and spicy chicken which it wasn't and my friend ordered the curry chicken. The mixed vegetables were frozen vegetables and the two plates looked identical with different sauces. The chicken used was low quality with tons of fat/grizzle. Believe me when I say you are better off buying a frozen entree and eating that. I would give the restaurant 0 stars if I could. In addition to better food they should prioritize people who are sitting in the restaurant and come up with a better system for to go orders like providing them with wait times, etc. this was definitely a fail and we don't recommend for dinner at all. read more
