This is an addendum to my initial review. Morris Environmental has sent me a certified letter threatening a lawsuit for slander for posting here I'm leaving the original review more or less intact. If you read it, please be aware that I used emotional words; however, the series of events is as I stated them. Also, please read the company's response, in which they accuse me of lying and insinuate that I am a scam artist. (In fact, the company was paid shortly after I wrote this review.) Whether or not you read the review below, I think you may want to decide if you want to deal with a company that repeatedly threatens its customers.
I should never have answered the door when the salesman rang the bell. However, I knew I had an issue with moisture in my crawl space, and when he offered an inspection, I took him up on it. My mistake was allowing myself to get pressured into hiring the company to do what I thought was encapsulation of the space under my house. I had already gotten 2 written estimates for encapsulation a year or so ago, and even though those estimates were lower than his, I listened to the salesman. (Please, don't anyone jump in and tell me what an idiot I've been. I'm already beating myself up pretty badly.) Work has been done, but I have refused so far to sign the paperwork for the loan I took out that will allow them to get paid. (I will sign it, because stupidity doesn't excuse me from my obligations.) You see, I thought I had contracted with Morris for encapsulation of my crawl space. It turns out that I'm actually paying them over $4300 to throw down 6-mil plastic sheeting held down with scrap concrete they found around my house. What's even more galling is that the owner of the company, Eric Morris, has now sent me threatening email, promising to take legal action, to have me arrested, because not paying for unsatisfactory work is a felony in Georgia. I suppose that email, even more than my dissatisfaction, is what has pushed me into letting others know about my experience. I almost forgot what I consider to be an attempt to "upsell" me. The salesman came back after work had begun and told me that work that had been done previously by a different contractor was done wrong. In fact, he claimed it all needed to be torn out and redone; my sump pump wasn't even working, according to him. The company would be delighted to do it all over, correctly this time, for a mere $10,000. I was too aghast to even ask if that was a total or if it was on top of the debt I had already incurred for the work the company was about to do. Oh, and the first contractor came back and verified the pump is indeed working just fine. Everyone always says "Buyer Beware." That doesn't keep me from feeling cheated, however. All I can tell readers is that this experience has been extremely unpleasant. read more
