We are starting a major renovation of our very large basement in a 1960's ranch house. The first step was to seal it against the water that has always come in during big storms. I called Steve because I liked the tone of the online review--someone thoughtful and honest, who wouldn't try to oversell. And I called one of the big companies, doing due diligence. True to form, the latter sent a salesman who took measurements, talked at us, quickly decided what we should do, whipped up a round number quote, and tried to close the deal. Steve, on the other hand, came over very promptly, talked WITH us, not at us, explained all the different options, called George (his crew master) about some potentially complicating issues, and promised a detailed quote in a few days, which he delivered on. He was up front about the possibilities of us finding complications when the paneling came down, but never put on a hard sell. Steve and his assistant Bear installed straps on the cracked cinderblocks, and George's crew did demolition and installed the drain system and sump pump. I had no complaints at all--in fact I have asked if they would do some additional concrete floor work for me. One of the biggest pains of being a homeowner is find the write person/company to do a given job. Please take my advice and hire AKME for your waterproofing needs. They are definitely the right company. Let me start by telling you my water issue story. It started by noticing standing water in our crawlspace this summer. That is when I started trying to figure out where the water was coming from. We cleaned the gutters thinking that may have been the problem. It wasn't but I noticed a clogged drain pipe that comes off one of the down spouts. It was caused by a termite bait that was driven through the unseen drain. It brings me great pleasure to write this review about Steve from AKME. I'm HUGE on first impressions as I believe our "gut/instincts" rarely lead us astray. I live by this principal in life, "early is on time and on time is late". Steve was early for our initial meeting and in my experience with contractors this rarely happens. Once he arrived he listened closely to the issues I was having. He then proceeded to crawl underneath my deck to access the tiny crawl space door AND it was on a rainy day so the ground was muddy and gross. Steve Terjung and his company were instrumental in solving the most important home repair issue we've ever had. One month after moving into our home, we found water leaking into our basement through the foundation wall. I instantly called Steve and he put me in touch with a restoration company who spent the weekend removing sheet rock and carpet and drying out the basement. Then we had to deal with the leak. Steve first tried several stop gap measures in hopes of stopping the leak at minimal cost. Unfortunately we kept having moisture after a hard rain. So Steve then acted as a general contractor to fully and permanently address the problem. After removing all the dirt against the basement, Steve and his team fully cleaned and double-sealed the foundation wall. Steve also oversaw the construction of a new drainage system to properly channel water away from the house. Now we can confidently finish the basement without worry. And our process took quite a while as we were not ready to perform this work for quite some time after our first contact with Mr. Terjung. The folks at AKME were outstanding! I have lived in my home for over 20 years, but just recently had a water intrusion issue in my theatre room. I originally called another company that you see on tv quite often and they wanted me to spend $25,000 on their solution. This would have caused me to cut the sheetrock in over half the walls in the room, remove the flooring along the walls, install their solution and then repair everything. The $25,000 estimate was just for their solution, not the repairs. When Steve Terjung, from AKME came to my home, I explained what we were experiencing. My entire experience with Steve and his team was awesome. He's really friendly and all my interactions with him have been positive. He came out and quickly identified the problem causing my basement leak. But not only did he observe the obvious, but was able to identify a previous repair that wasn't done correctly.
