Had a pretty bizarre experience here. We came in at 7:45pm on a Saturday (3 of us) and were told we could sit but the kitchen had to shut down for 45 minutes. Ok no big deal I guess - it didn't look very busy, but these things happen. We were sat and our server took our drink order right away. The cocktails were very good - I tried the Living on a Pear which was very refreshing and the rest of our party had the 1858 which they liked a lot. Once we got our drinks no one came by for 30 minutes and I had to flag someone down to bring us some water. At 30 minutes we asked if chips and guac was an option while the kitchen was "temporarily not serving food" but the server said all the fryers were full with fries so no they can't do that. Ok... so we continued to wait. It was around the 45 minute mark we were able to order so they were true to their word. This is what we ordered: - Pork Belly Bacon Scoops - these were just ok. The fries were nothing to write home about and there wasn't a lot of toppings. The pork belly bits were very small and kind of hard and chewy. The sauce was decent, but just not enough of it. - Li'l Wig - I'm sad to say this was one of the worst burgers I've ever had. I requested medium rare and I don't know what the patty is made out of it, but it resembled more like meatloaf than a burger. It was very dense and had a strong gamey taste, reminded me more of bison or venison. Idk, it was just not very good. I only took a few bites and left the rest. The brioche bun was tasty and so was the W sauce. The fries were really good and had a nice crunch. I wish the appetizer used those fries instead. The service was inconsistent. We were barely checked on until the very end when we had a few different people come by and refill waters / bring the check. We never saw our original server again. It is a nice vibe inside, great lighting and decor with both indoor and outdoor seating, but I don't think I'll be returning. The bill was $133 for 3 drinks, 1 app, and 3 burgers. Felt pretty let down leaving still hungry and over $150 in the hole (after tip). Hoping it was just a fluke and other people have better experiences there. read more

We have some history with this place on Colfax from when it was the Elm and how it's changed names and hands over the years. We stopped in recently on a Sunday evening and we were glad we did. They have an interesting wine and cocktail list and we took advantage of the 4.00 beer with entree. Service was laid back,friendly, and fast. Exactly what you want with teenagers. Portions were appropriate and prices are about what you'd expect for the area. Ambiance was light and breezy, with chill music playing overhead that wasn't too loud. Really good atmosphere on the inside! They are a local wine bar/ burger joint in Denver. The menu is pretty simplistic, which I appreciate and they specialize in burgers. We started with the chips and guacamole, which was super good. The side of fries was just OK. Everyone at the table ordered burgers and two of the people ordered their specialty burger, which they've entered into awards. Our favorite thing was the W sauce because whatever is in their special sauce is incredible. I did a burger slider trio so that I could try a little bit of all the burgers, including the brie, the standard one and the one with bacon and jack cheese. All the burgers were OK because they were very dry. The service here was not great at all, they were not friendly, and even though the restaurant wasn't busy, it took our server a very long time to bring out a soda water, refill drinks, and she was very dismissive of our group. read more

I wouldn't think this is a burger place but that's about all they offer. They have some salads and sharables on their menu but really they offer variations of a "craft" burger. Nice ambiance when you walk in with large windows overlooking Colfax. They have an outdoor area that I guess would open up in the summer time. The bar is long and bright so lots of cocktails to choose from. Ordered a couple glasses of house wine with our meal ($8 during happy hour/$11 during peak times. Not bad for a house wine. The burgers tasted okay but didn't sit well with me afterwards. I had the li'l wig burger which is white cheddar burger, red onion, tomato, lettuce, pickle and their sauce. We also ordered the li'l big wig which is similar but includes smoked pulled pork belly bacon and fresh jalapeno for $3 more. Nice community location. This would be a nice local stopping place if you lived close by and in walking distance. read more

We were looking for a nearby nightcap and didn't want to go to our usual spot. Randomly found this place on Google Maps and it's truly a hidden gem. Very cozy and inviting interior with lots of sports on the TVs. Stacy was such a friendly bartender and seemed to know all the regulars that came by. Have you ever gotten one of those rolls of frozen burger patties from Costco ? It comes in like a stack of perfect discs that are stuck between a layer of parchment. Every single burger is a precise, factory-made circle of 5/8" thickness, and it's downright impossible to cook anything but well done. The meat is super uninspiring and generally makes you wish you made better choices in life. That sort of burger is fine for a backyard kegger at a frat house or maybe when you're hosting a middle school birthday party, but you'd never serve in any other context. Anyhow. Very expensive. The building on Colfax & Elm in Park Hill that holds The W is a fixture in my memory as a soda fountain inside Weiss Drug Store from the 1960s. Now it holds a bar where the soda fountain was and serves wonderful burgers. The menu is interesting and had many choices that were tempting. We had to elicit help from our server, who seemed more than happy to oblige. Husband settled on the Li'l Big Wig burger, I had the W Salad. Both were yummy. Though I wished the salad had more of the veggies and candied pecans than the lettuce. Looking forward to a return visit -- one where we'll have to save room for the dessert, French Beignets Trio! read more

The W, or as others who have been in Denver fo a while, formerly The Elm. While I only stopped in for a drink, The W has an updated decor with an updated menu as well. The W puts on a good show with the cocktail of the month as well as the details that went into the decorations. Happy hours are short - 4:00-5:30 Tuesdays through Fridays. All day Mondays are Happy Hour as well. The W gives off more of a refined watering hole than its predecessor. The bartender was very attentive and extremely nice. I will go again to try some of their food - many items sounded very tempting. My heart will always belong to The Elm's grilled cheese - if you know, you know! Thanks for a fun experience. read more

Nice clean restaurant to come into our first time. Restaurant had 8 patrons in there when we arrived so very slow. Bartender was the hostess and was very nice and seated us right away. Looked at the menu and ordered our appetizer and entrees. Appetizer was delivered first and was delicious. Entrees came out but something was wrong with my friend's order as it didn't look like what she ordered. Bartender came over and immediately apologized for bringing the wrong entrees to both of us. Mine was the same burger but cooked well when I ordered medium and hers was completely different. She gave us a box for the wrong burger for my friend and gave her the correct one, however did not replace mine. Check came and charged full price for everything. Restaurants generally take something off for making glaring mistakes and no offer to remake my burger that was wrong so we were a little surprised but gave her the normal tip and paid the expensive bill Not a great first impression but not necessarily dissuaded from returning just one of those meh things read more

The W Denver is one of a kind! The staff is so on it! The atmosphere is very inviting and nice to sit in. The food is great. Can tell that they care about detail here. The cocktails are the best thing about this place. My wife here is holding a living on a pear (her favorite drink along with the grand avenue). First time here and it will not be the last! What a lovely decorated place and high quality decor with ample space between tables! You can choose between traditional dining tables, communal bar tops, and the inviting bar. I asked for medium and didn't get medium well, medium rare, but MEDIUM! Delicious and juicy patty. The Baby Brie had numerous flavor profiles to keep your tastes buds on edge wanting for more. The thin slices of apple revealed a delayed yet contrasting taste to the rest of flavors. Tables are fairly close together so if you want an intimate conversation, that may not happen. Happy Hour runs from 4-5:30pm Tuesday-Friday and all day Monday with generous house wine pours. There are also a few bites on the HH menu. I decided to try their Burger Battle Burger - the Li'l Big Wig. It had great flavor with the white cheddar, pulled pork belly bacon, and W sauce. Wow this place is overpriced. I ordered a $19 burger but subbed a veggie patty for $4. Really? It wasn't house-made and wasn't great. I also got a martini with a twist so was charged $3 for I guess a bit of lemon? I've been here once before for a salad and don't need to return. No wonder it was empty on a Saturday night. My husband and I were excited to try this new hot spot in the neighborhood. Full disclosure, I don't eat beef or pork so I was a little hesitant to get too excited about a new fun burger place that serves top notch cocktails and drinks. We were excited to learn that they do have impossible burgers as a substitute, but they were out of them. :( We opted to have a couple of appetizers (the southern fried pickles, and crispy cauliflower). The pickles were not hot enough or crispy enough. The cauliflower which came with both buffalo and garlic aioli was pretty tasty and nice and hot. We also split a Big Bird sandwich described as a shredded blackened chicken sandwich topped with avocado, lettuce, red onion, tomato, and goat cheese. Sadly the sandwich was very disappointing. The chicken was not shredded, it was thickly sliced, cold, a little dry, and not all that seasoned. My husband thought it was too salty. There was no goat cheese on it that we could taste or see, and the avocado was a smear on the bottom bun. The bun was soft and grilled nicely, but also cold. The French fries that came with the sandwich were hot and crunchy and very Tasty. I had a cocktail called Lost at Sea and thought it was pretty good. Our server was very sweet and friendly. The inside is really cute. There is outside seating too, but we didn't take a look at it. We'll probably give them another try. Might be a cute place for an evening cocktail and a nibble. read more

My neighbors, this place is great. Crisp good beer on draft (I drank a lightly-hazy house IPA), and a veggie burger with a texture that rivals beef burger; it's made from Portobellos, and dense with a good chew. There is a massive vegan tax (+$4 on an $16-$18 burger), so do not be surprised when two veggie burgers and a beer run you $50 before tip. This new South Park Hill place opened last Saturday after a few days of soft openings. The owners last name is Wigglesworth, which obviously cannot fit on a sign, so "W". This space was formely American Elm. They are both a bar & restaurant, open 7 days a week with Happy Hour everyday from 4pm-530pm I arrived just after 4pm. There were 2 parties inside. By 4:30pm, they were full. Nice marble topped bar where I sat. Three high top tables and eight low tables. I saw an enclosed patio on the west side. I started with their version of an Aperol Spritz called Garden Spritz. It was made with Aperol, Elderflower, Orange bitters and Prosecco. My first food item was their version of nachos made with large fries called Pulled Bacon Scoops. Scoop fries with smoked pork belly, picked jalapeños, green onion and melted cheese. Happy Hour price was $10 vs $13. Very nice, but not as filling as tortilla chips. My 2nd cocktail was The Smuggler. It is a Rum based drink with Campari. A nice Tiki inspired drink. I needed more food, so got their Bacon and Blue craft burger made with Wisconsin Blue Marble Jack cheese, pulled pork belly bacon, onion, lettuce and roasted garlic aioli. It is normally served with fries, but I opted for side salad. Good burger and good cheese. For dessert, I got their French Beignets Trio. Very yummy. The have a large selection of beers, wines, and other cocktails. I was served by Blair B. She was great. They charge a 4% fee for kitchen staff. I will be back. read more

Went to the W for the first time and loved it. They did a wonderful job redecorating the old restaurant. It's very warm and welcoming. The food, drinks and staff are all terrific and very friendly. I liked this place - we biked here after work for a burger and a burger we got. There is a deck, bar and standard indoor seating. The interior has a clean, art deco decor. What fun is to be had at the W. Lead by a team of skilled and dashing folks like the Iron One and the Solemn One you will have a wonderful time. The food is very yummy and the mixed drinks are very delicious. The owners are tremendous folks. They are true masters of Denver. One of things are really appreciate about the W is there are no Anacondas slithering around trying to eat people. I've been to a few bars where some horrid monstrosity gets inside and feeds on someone or just plain takes them away to never be seen again. I'm not gonna lie, I'm a little sad this place didn't go with Wigglesworth's (owner's last name) because I would absolutely rock a "Wigglesworth's Tavern" shirt if they had. This is in the old The Elm spot on Colfax and...Elm. Vibe: I've heard that they were billing themselves as a family spot, but this place seemed a bit more refined than places I typically would take my kids. That is not a knock at all. The interior is adult in a nice and a approachable way. It was comfortable and also looked really neat and clean enough that I wouldn't feel ashamed to take a date here for drinks. (Which is good, because that's what my girlfriend and I did.) We sat at the bar, and the staff were constantly checking in on us. Very friendly. Food: menu is pretty small. A few apps and some burgers. I respect that. They just opened, and it's better that they get the items they have now down before they try too much. We got the hummus as an app, and it was decent. Not the absolute best I've ever had (a little thicker than most places I've had), but they made it in house and the veggies and chips that came with were nice. I got the blue cheese and bacon burger and my girlfriend got the chicken sandwich. She liked hers and I really enjoyed the burger. Thin patty was thin, kind of smashed style, which made them asking me how I wanted it cooked a little pointless. Beef was food, brioche bun. Fries were pretty darn good. Only knock that I would have would be that I wish I'd had just a few more fries, and that they either gave you more sauce, to dip them in, or provide one of those condiment holder things so that I could do it myself. Bottom line: if you are in the neighborhood, it's definitely worth checking out. Right across from a bar if you wanted to do a mini barhopping trip, or get apps here and hit chop shop across the street or something. It's really nice to see another place going to this location, and I really wish them well. I expect that we will be by again. Probably 3.5 for me, rounding up to four because they are so new and I really want them to succeed. read more

So great to see this corner spot open again! We'll definitely go back! The burgers were delicious, the food came out really fast, which is great. We asked for our burgers cooked medium and they were definitely medium rare, so we could have waited a bit for them to get to medium. The brioche buns were perfect. The fries were tasty, just a touch of coating and spice. There were 3 booze-free drinks from Gruvi on the menu and I'm sure the bartender could have made us a cocktail without alcohol, but it would be a nice addition to see a few non-booze specialty cocktails on the menu with Seedlip or something like that. The space was nice and open without being too loud. A personal preference would be for the TVs to be off or showing some slow-tv instead of random movies that were on. read more
