You know what, this place is pretty awesome and easily convenient to access. It has been a minute since I had my eyes checked. My main reason was to get glasses with a blue light filter and to be able to see when I'm tired at night (while driving). The staff is super friendly, the eye doc was kind and great with my little one. I was very happy with that. Glasses took about 7 business days to get. They handled all the insurance stuff and I was on my way. Easy peasy. Highly recommend if you need an eye doc. read more

Today I took my daughter for her eye exam and to pick out a new pair of glasses. This was our first time here, but we were already happy given the fact that we scheduled our appointment only 2 days in advance. We arrived early for paperwork, and received a tour and welcome gift. Everyone was so welcoming and kind. We also saw Dr. Fontenot, who was really wonderful and thorough. The visit took a negative turn when we were finishing up our visit. There was a kind young lady (I didn't catch her name and I'm so sad about it!) that helped my daughter find a new frame, and she didn't make us feel rushed at all. She truly made my daughter feel comfortable finding the style she wanted. Then, once we decided on extras, insurance coverage, etc, there was an issue with the card reader. The young lady explained that they had just recently got the card readers and she was still learning how to use it. She was trying everything, and we were more than willing to wait. These things happen - and she was trying her best. She walked over to the office in the corner, where an older lady with dark hair sat. She soon came marching over to the desk, clearly irritated (it was 8am and a little too early to already be so grumpy). She didn't greet us, say hi, apologize for the wait... did not even look at us. Instead, she proceeded to humiliate the sweet girl that was helping us, saying things like "don't EVER do that again!" I was appalled. She was so disrespectful, her tone was so demeaning, and I could not believe that someone would treat others that way in the workplace, especially when they were asking for help, and even more so, in front of customers. The store weren't busy at all - there was me and my daughter at the frame desk and then another couple checking in at the front desk. That's it. I tried figuring out why she would be so angry with this girl, and two hours later, I am still so upset for this young lady. She was humiliated and completely disrespected in front of multiple people. After the grumpy lady went back to her office (still not a single word said to us, just obvious rage), the sweet young lady continued as nothing had happened, apologized for the wait, and finished checking us out. She still thanked us for coming in, wished us a good day, and held her composure. If I were her, I would have been in the bathroom 5 minutes after we left crying and considering a new job. The older lady was AWFUL. When we got to the car, my daughter pointed out how bad she felt for the girl getting yelled at, and hoped she was ok. I would highly recommend some coaching to this individual. This lady's rage and disrespect ruined the entire visit for us. We'll consider returning, but if I ever have to interact with the older lady, I'll happily decline and wait to talk to someone else. In case it wasn't clear, she was awful. I cannot stress that enough, and I feel so bad for the young girl that was just doing her best. read more

Dr. Robert R. Fontenot is very knowledgeable (this post does not reflect on him, nor the young lady that fits glasses), but the owner and the business (front desk and office manager) as a whole treated us very unethically and they have no ability to solve problems!!! They were unprofessional (leaving patients in rooms for an hour and taking two hours for an eye exam), practiced extremely, aggressive, and redundant sales. And cared nothing about the welfare of the patient, constantly pushing multiple and repetitive tests, refusing to provide a "contact prescription", and not freely providing patients with their prescriptions (which by HIPPA states that this information belongs to the patient and they have no right to keep your medical records) leaving the patient with zero contacts. Sad commentary - I was hoping to have local eye care but definitely not. Worst eye-care experience of our lives. Drama on top of drama. read more

Everyone was very welcoming and we had a great experience getting glasses and an eye exam here for my daughter.

Today I was refused service because I am poor. I just wanted my annual exam, covered by my insurance. But I was forced to upscale and pay for a separate test. Or submit to being dilated, which impairs driving, that I also declined. Worse, the pricey machine was broken. And not expected to be fixed for two weeks. I'd have to pay and come again later. No thank you! Lots of sales agents in white frocks. I felt shamed because I am a frugal senior who expects more kindness from my local business community. ​ read more

A warning to all. I got my eyes tested at the Optical Shoppe. I bought just lenses for 2 pair of glasses-not new frames They were $1700, did not work and no refund allowed. Stop lying!! I feel like they nickel and dime you to death. They said they required every patient to do a procedure that insurance does not cover. They refused me the eye appointment because I declined it . Their reason was because the insurance requires it. So, I called my insurance and they said they do not require it. It's solely up to the provider. So, I will not be going back and neither will my whole family. read more

‼WARNING DO NOT COME HERE‼ I guess we can start with the obvious, THIS PLACE IS A PYRAMID SCHEME. The dr charged me for god knows what and i didnt even know till i called the store asking them for these drops the dr gave me. The dr TOLD ME the drops came with the contacts but when i called that wasnt the case. The dr CHARGED me for the drops but she never mentioned that. The EYE DOCTOR also told me i was overweight and i needed to take these "vitamins " that they sell!! The dr stated that these $300 "vitamins" were going to make me healthy. After that, i knew this place was a f****** joke. foremost, the dr ONLY cares about your appearance and what you are wearing. THE DR will make you feel so uncomfortable with how much SHE WILL talk about what YOU are wearing brands, colors,etc. I thought i was going in to PICK up but little did i know the b**** (the dr) had a WHOLE lecture for me on why i shouldn't wear the brand nike. Every morning when i put in these s***** contacts i am reminded of this s***** doctor. Please, if you can go to ANYOTHER eye doctor i would highly recommend you do. read more

My mother is in her eighties and was very pleased with the doctors and their equipment which is much better than other optometrist however do not purchase your eye glasses there! My mother was over charged went back three times because glasses did not fit well. She was not able to use them. costumer service up front was terrible! read more

I have visited this store a couple of times. In December of 2013, I started having blurry vision and eye pain. The doctor couldn't diagnose the problem, but didn't think it was serious. Very shortly thereafter, I lost part of the vision in one eye and went through a number of specialists who got me fixed up and restored my vision. The problem might have been caught sooner if the doctor at The Vision Store had been either more attentive or perhaps better trained. My next visit to this store occurred in 2023. Hubby was impatient to get an eye exam and this store was one of the only places that had available appointments. We both went for exams. I saw the same doctor I had an appointment with in 2013. The doctor spent a good amount of time trying to talk me into getting progressive lenses, which I adamantly refused. Doc also spent considerable time trying to sell me expensive vitamins and talking to the assistant about how exciting it was going to be to buy a new BMW. I received a prescription and had glasses made through EyeBuy Direct. I couldn't see well with the new glasses and requested the store do a recheck of the prescription. The glasses were confirmed to be made according to the RX but this was obviously not the RX I needed to be able to see well. The doctor seemed insulted that I wanted the recheck done and behaved rudely throughout the recheck appointment. The RX was corrected and reprinted but I didn't trust it to be correct due to the rudeness I experienced by both the doctor and staff at the recheck appointment. (Talking rudely about me....in front of me, so the assistant could take notes, as if I wasn't in the room.) After leaving there, I decided to keep wearing the glasses I had made from a previous 2022 appointment at Eye Associates of NM instead. Now in 2024, I returned to Eye Associates (six months to get an appointment), and finally have the correct RX. The Eye Associates doctor confirmed that both of the Vision Store RXs (original and corrected) were completely wrong. For this, and the other reasons listed above, I encourage others to skip this place. I would hate to have anyone else to experience what I went through both times I went there. And just to clarify, I am not a high maintenance person. I'm pretty easy going and trust whoever is providing me services to be on their game, since they are trained specifically to do what they're doing. I do not consider it to be unreasonable to expect professional and accurate service from those who are providing my eye care. I personally do not feel The Vision Store doctor I saw to be capable in this regard, due to repeated errors. My husband saw the other (newer doctor) and received good care and an accurate RX. His experience is the only reason for the one star on this review, although he also had a few issues with the front end staff that were irritating enough to make him say he would never go back there. Be advised that if you need your PD (pupillary distance) number in order to buy glasses online, New Mexico is one of the few states which have laws requiring that information to be put on the RX. Most places won't automatically put the PD numbers on your RX because they want you to go to their optical shop and buy very expensive glasses. The optical shop is where they usually notate the PD numbers. You need to ask for this information to be put on your prescription while you are in the office with the doctor. Otherwise, you will have to stand in line in the optical shop to get it after your appointment is over. Good luck. read more

Dr. Casaus did an eye exam, she seemed nice at the initial visit. She said, "this is what you see with current prescription and this is what you will see with a new prescription". I ordered a new pair, but had to take them back because my vision was blurry. At this visit, I felt she was critical and said I chose the prescription, over and over. I felt very uncomfortable at this visit, so when my glasses were still not right a second time, I asked for a refund but was told they do not offer refunds, but would make them right. I was seen by the other doctor and he seems to do a better exam and my glasses are now okay. Today I got a remake charge of $160.34. My husband and I went to this office because we were new to the area and they advertise in out bulletin at church, but we were not impressed as they try to sell you vitamins, a better lens, that you pay more for, we felt we were talking with a salesman that wants to sell you more and more. I should have read the reviews. Needless to say we will need to find a new eye doctor. read more

The worst customer experience ever. They will try to upsell you during the entire process - from the eye drops to the $400 up charge for the super xray vision lenses which they assume you want and fail to convey the value of the lenses. These lenses would have put the cost of glasses at over $1000 - yeah crazy. I went to get my $600 glasses fitted from an unprofessional tech with attitude. Don't waste your time and money - go to Costco, Sam's or other service for half the cost No need to respond with a canned response to this post. Like the other reviews, the worst customer experience. Yes, this doctor does a good and thorough eye exam and fitting. However, the billing practices of this business are predatory. I was quoted $130, out-the-door, for full eye exam, Optos, and contact fitting for an astigmatism.... WITHOUT insurance. I was charged $133 out-of-pocket, AFTER they billed my insurance! I paid more for my eye exam and fitting WITH insurance than I would have paid without any insurance, AND they charged my insurance for my 1 annual "FREE" eye exam. This place should be investigated for insurance fraud. I knew there was a reason they were being evasive and anything but transparent when I tried to review my invoice while in the store. After careful review of my itemized invoice, I now know why.... you will pay double the uninsured price if you have insurance. This place is a wolf in sheep's clothing rip-off. Unless you don't mind throwing money down the drain, avoid this place at all costs! Literally 100% of the opticians I called in Albuquerque were less expensive and more transparent about their billing practice than this Vision Store. Don't make the same mistake I did. *EDIT* In response to Dr Casaus' canned response, I stand by my review. Too many reviewers with exactly the same complaint about the billing practices of this Vison Store, spanning YEARS, to be anything other than their standard operating procedure. I was very impressed with the staff and location of the Bernalillo Vision Store. The staff is all very friendly and helpful. Dr. Fontenot is awesome! I have an eye disease that usually makes for a grueling eye exam and I avoid them as long as possible. He was extremely patient and very informative. I highly recommend this location! read more

I'd been going to Dr. Casaus for YEARS. She was always kind to me, as were the staff. But now that I have to pay for my own frames and contacts, I decided to go through a third-party like Hubble or EyeBuyDirect (both fantastic services btw) so when I informed her of my decision... I was met with some hostility. She criticized the value of third-party services and in general was hostile towards me. I was shocked at the lack of professionalism shown by her and her staff after it was known I wouldn't be purchasing frames or contacts from her. My mother and I expressed our feelings to the office manager who seemed to let the doctor and her staff know but still, they were awful towards me. I asked for my eye glass and contact prescription but only my eye glass prescription was given to me. That was about a month ago, but this morning they had the gall to call and confirm an appointment with me when I'd cancelled all my future appointments with them. When I told the woman on the phone that I'd no longer be going to their practice she simply hung up on me. This place is unbelievably unprofessional and I hope to never see any of my friends or family going there. Know your worth. read more

I had scheduled an appt for myself and my kids at the vision store in Bernalillo, at the time they asked if my information was all current. I said yes. When arriving at our appt the receptionist asked for my ID and insurance card. She then said they don't accept my insurance any longer. I told her that would of been nice to know when I made the appt. She didn't seem to care at all and asked if we wanted to reschedule. I said no. Why reschedule if they don't take my insurance. she was unfriendly and didn't seem to care about the patients. I wish I woulda got her name but didn't. Where to start? I was thoroughly insulted by Dr. Casaus in several ways that are completely unethical in not just the medical industry, but in general character. I am not one to EVER right a poor review. I believe local businesses should be supported & reported on good practices. Saying my experience was horrible is an understatement. On a positive note, the office is clean with the newest equipment. The staff is helpful, but they look like abused prisoners, hindering happiness. I showed up for my appointment at 0915 on Aug 14th, and they said they couldn't find it. I showed them my verified text confirmation from their office, AND I have the business card with the date/time written on it. Mysteriously, 5 minutes before I walked into the office I get a text confirmation for an appointment on Aug 21st; now how's that for COVERING UP your mistakes! This isn't the first time I've been treated poorly either. I once waited 30 minutes past my time in the exam room to see the doctor. Good customer service? I think not. I feel very disrespected. They charge $25 if I don't show for an appointment. I wonder if they'll give ME a $25 no-show refund? read more

Worst optometrist I have ever been to. I had just moved here and all I needed was a new prescription and to order contacts. During the trial week I noticed my prescription wasn't strong enough or maybe it was too strong so during the next appointment I told them. We redid the eye test and I got a new prescription, however I was charged for the new eye test when the doctor told me it was covered with my insurance. The doctor told my family they took my insurance and they did not at all. I called my insurance and they told me it should be covered and I should not pay anything at all. Yet I paid in full price and my insurance told me they used my coverage for the year.... I think this optometrist is a scam. They tell you one thing and charge you for things you didn't ask for. It's almost been a year later and I'm unhappy with my service. They did not carry my contact brand so they gave me a different brand. I hate the contact brand, they are monthly. Every contact has ripped within a few day to weeks. The edge will have a small rip and hurt your eyes. I'm supposed to order new contacts for the year in February, it's December and I'm out because all my contacts have ripped. I'm going on vacation and need contact but the doctor told me I cannot renew my contact prescription till February. I also told the doctor that I want to order a different brand and she told me that I could not do that. I then told her I would pay and not use my insurance for contacts and she told me I'm not allowed to order contacts till next February. I then went to another optometrist and tried to order contacts, when they reached out to the Vision store, they told them I could not order new contacts and that they would fax my prescription over. I feel trapped. The vision store is definitely doing something very wrong here. Please do not go here they will not let you leave :( I'm probably going to need to order contacts from 1800contacts for $300... because I'm all out I need them to see. read more

Dr. Deidra Casuas is a very thorough, proactive doctor that we have used for the last 12 years. She is great at catching issues before they turn into a big problem. Because I spend a lot of time on the computer, the glands in my eye lids were not putting out enough oil and became very dry/painful. Also, I was showing signs of macular degeneration. Dr. Casuas started a treatment plan for both of these issues and they are already turning around! read more

I believe I just got the most thural exam with the most up-to-date equipment in New Mexico. The techs were very helpful and knowledgeable. No pressure on the extra up charges. Paid more for my glasses than I would have at the big box store, but you get more for your dollar here. Sometimes saving a few pennies cost you a lot more than dollars. I don't think I've ever felt more unsatisfied with a business before. Not only do I feel unwelcome when I walk in, I feel a sense of "we are better than you." I've been going to this eye doctor for about 4 years, thinking it will get better each time, but year to year I walked away mad, scammed, and dissatisfied. My family quit going, and I only stayed because it was close by and I am too good at giving second chances. My last experience, though, was the last straw. They've always only done anything for the money and will push you to spend more and more. They started requiring everyone to do a test that charges extra money. The staff, although cheery on the outside have still always found a way to disappoint me as they make snarky comments and like to put blame on you for their mistakes. Nobody there seems to truly care about you and any "customer care" they do have feels forced and condescending. Every time I go, I end up spending about 2 hours or more, because although the office seems empty, I always find myself waiting in the room to finish my check up. Every time, I sit waiting for about 45-60 minutes in the room with nothing. This last time, due to covid-19, the person I brought with me had to wait in the car, which is understandable, but while I was waiting around for my check up (which was an appointment they've been planning since the year before) she had to sit in the hot car for 2 and a half hours. There was only one other patient in the whole office (the place is small enough, I can hear what's going on in the building). Besides the constant pushing to spend more money, this last incident was the turning point. Due to covid-19 they were trying to reduce the number of people coming to the office, so they told me they would not have me come in for a contact fitting. In the years past, I would set up another appointment a couple days later to tell them how the contacts feel. It's perfectly understandable that they didn't want me to come back (the one time they actually seemed to care about their customers). But they also charged me $93 dollars for a contact fitting that I never got. When I went back to pick up the glasses they not only seemed to force me to buy, but also didn't order until after the entire $650 was paid for (guess they don't understand how bills work; everything must be paid upfront), I politely asked why they charged me $93 for something I never got. The lady at the front desk insisted that they did give me a lens fitting. I said "The only thing that happened was that my contacts were put in my eyes and they asked how they felt." the lady at the desk snapped "yeah, that's what a fitting is" I basically spent $93 for a 5-word conversation. At that point, I cancelled my appointment they set up for next year, and I'm never going back. read more

I need glasses and one of my sons needs glasses as does my wife. We are fully insured and would have given a lot of repeat business as well as referrals to your business. After 3 visits, my prescription still isn't right. I've lost all trust in Dr. Casaus and regret ever going there. During the first exam she argued with me, even told me I was wrong! Turns out the machine needed to be adjusted, not that I was seeing things "wrong". Really rushed through the first exam, gave me a VERY wrong prescription and almost caused a car accident due to it (I couldn't even see traffic, thats how off it was!). Went back and had another prescription, which was closer but still not right and caused eye strain and nasty headaches. Third visit for the same problem and I still don't have the right vision and still have all the nasty effects of eye strain and headaches. I gave plenty of chances, but after 3 visits and still have the wrong prescription I'm done. I do read more

Holy cabooses! The Vision Store in Bernalillo blows chunks! I highly recommend that nobody gets their eyes checked here. Received the wrong prescription here, you'll even wait an entire hour after your appointment time before getting seen. I also felt like I was under attack when she constantly questioned where I was buying my glasses when I informed her somewhere cheaper. She also likes to ask personal questions and make unprofessional comments such as: "Do you have a job? Where do you work? Oh you don't have a job? Well I'm sure there are jobs at the casino. Does your mom come here for checkups? If not, she should! Where are you buying your glasses? What's the name of the online eyeglass store? How much did you pay? Also, thanks for cleaning your eyes and making sure there isn't any crust there because my last 2 patients didn't." I could go on and on and on about what is wrong with this place, mainly this Dr. Deidra. I enjoyed her staff, but her. . . oh dear! So after unknowingly receiving the wrong prescription I ordered my glasses online like I've been doing for the last few years. Had to send the glasses back twice assuming the online store made them incorrectly. I wore them for one day and my eyes felt like they were melting. So I made an appointment to get my eyes rechecked. She rechecked them alright! She was still rude and tried to rush my appointment yet again. Why not take your sweet time and make sure you don't screw up my prescription again, aye?!?! She blatantly lied to my face and said my prescription was off by a SMUDGE. No lady, I went home and looked at the prescription you gave me from a month ago and no it wasn't off by a smudge. You got my damn eyes mixed up! No wonder I couldn't see. You cost me extra money I didn't need to spend and you lied to me. Thanks for your amazing customer service. You are the worst. This practice is focused on extracting money from patients with various add-ons and unrequested services. You will be told that you MUST have your pupils dilated unless you purchase their add-on alternative. Dr. Casaus went a step beyond the usual bogus prescription-writing to actually diagnose "dry eye syndrome" and try to force me to buy an expensive three-part remedy from her office. Who in NM does not have dry eyes? All I wanted was a prescription. They will try everything imaginable to extract the last dollar from you. AVOID. read more
