The Vine Fine Dining is located inside Cameo Heights Mansion B&B. Our friends stayed at the B&B and enjoyed their accommodations, but this review is specifically about the restaurant and the food. Our friends made the reservation, and before going, my wife and I checked the restaurant's website to get an idea of the cost. The website listed the seven-course meal at $89 per person. Our final charge was $109 per person, plus a mandatory 20% gratuity. That discrepancy was frustrating, especially given the quality of the meal. (someone else commented on this in the reviews - maybe it is time to fix the website). Unfortunately, the food was extremely disappointing. I ordered the steak frites, or "steak frits" as it was written on the menu, and it bore little resemblance to a proper steak frites. The steak was a dry, overcooked cube of meat served on top of fries that looked and tasted similar to frozen store-bought steak fries, along with an unidentified pink sauce. My wife ordered the scallops with lobster ravioli. The scallops were overcooked, and the ravioli appeared to have been previously cooked and then fried or reheated. They were and rubbery rather than fresh and tender. I realize my expectations may be higher because I am accustomed to dining in larger metropolitan areas, but we have had far better meals at several restaurants in Walla Walla. I cannot understand why anyone would make the drive specifically for this restaurant unless they were already staying at the B&B. Even then, I would recommend going into town for dinner. The service was also slow. Our server tried to remain pleasant, but she clearly seemed unhappy or overwhelmed. We were a group of six, and none of us finished our main courses. Despite the amount of uneaten food left on the table, she didn't ask whether everything was satisfactory. The one positive was the pleasant view of the surrounding canyon and landscape. Unfortunately, the scenery was not enough to make up for the poor food, slow service and unexpected pricing. WOW!!! This was the best food my husband and I have had our entire lives. Great accommodation for gluten free and vegan. Jessica was our chef and server. She was amazing, her food was astonishing to say the least. It is an automatic 7 course meal for $109 per person at the time of this review and it's worth every penny. It was just us and one other table, so very private dining with views of the landscape outside. I had the lamb and my husband had the tenderloin, both of which melted in our mouths. Once Upon A Mansion...Part 2. In this magical place was a restaurant so extraordinary that your taste buds evolved to new heights. They would serve their guests a divine seven course dinner that set the standard for fine dining. The seating options included: private garden terrace, open balcony area with views, indoor observatory where one could watch the Chef prepare his culinary creations. A Formal dining with the grand piano or one could dine in the privacy of their suite. The Chef (Jose) was bestowed extraordinary gifts. He could prepare a tasty meal that a vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian, or carnivore would savor and enjoy. His level of organization and execution was remarkable. Service was awful, didn't even get offered anything to drink besides water until the third "course" and she never check on us. Can't really recommend this place. It's a beautiful location, but the food wasn't that great, especially for the price. The limo we were so excited about had almost 200k miles on it. Just had dinner here last night for our anniversary, left and had to eat dinner again at home. It was very bad. We have been frequenting this establishment for a the past couple years and have always left more than satisfied, now I am sad to say we will not be returning. The first course was a very strange flavor pairing, stuffed cucumber. Second was a pretty good asparagus and leek soup, but the portion here was a quarter of the size of previous soups had during this course. Third course used to be a choice of delicious side dishes, this outing there was 1 option an Arugula goat cheese salad, tasted absolutely terrible, 2 bites in and me and my lady pushed it to the side. The steak was delicious, small wagyu sirloin with Chipotle butter sauce cooked perfectly, not enough to save the outing though. Prix fix menu...advertised as a 7 course meal! This place is very accommodating and has vegetarian options. The seating is comfortable. Service is good and attentive. You can watch the chefs cooking in the homelike kitchen, which is neat! First course: a slice of cucumber with stuff on it. Nice bite size course. Lobster bisque was delicious, even though on the saltier side. Salad was simple, nothing special-lacking finesse. The entree I ordered was Mahi-Mahi. It was delicious and perfectly seasoned and cooked. Everything went so well together. The dessert was very nice too. Chocolate semifreddo was underwhelming but actually once it started melting, I enjoyed the mousse type texture that paired well with the tart raspberry sauce. The carrot cake was incredible...with cheesecake ice cream. We later asked where they buy it and the chef actually makes it himself. Incredible!!! Would love to come back here again. Either I have been to a different restaurant or those before me have no clue what good food is all about! Of all the tasting menus I have tried, this has to be the most underwhelming of them all! The vine is located at Cameo Heights mansion, where we were staying during our visit to Walla Walla. I made the booking well in advance and prepared myself for a degustation course that would be very pleasing after a day of wine tasting. The food is 6-7 courses (if you count the amuse bouche and the little chocolate strawberries at the end as the bye-bye course). Every single dish was extremely disappointing and many of the dishes were not even what they were supposed to be. Duck confit was for sure not a duck confit. It was semi-burnt, not the soft confit that happens after leaving the duck in the oil at a certain low temperature for a long time. The wait between the appetizer and entree was 45 minutes! 45 minutes to get the next dish! I would rather get up and leave after 45 minut The panna cotta was anything but. It was a layer of caramel and chocolate with a layer of whipped cream! I was literally in awe! The jelly like appearance of a wobbly panna cotta was not AT ALL what I got. I am saddened by my experience and I wish I had better things to say about this place. I had really high hopes on our way to Walla Walla and it seems like it was mostly wishful thinking when it came to the Vine! read more

We stayed at Cameo Heights for two nights but had decided to do dinner the second night. After breakfast the next morning, we realized we may have made a mistake by not eating every meal at Vine. Many of the fresh vegetables and fruits as well as herbs are grown on site. The rest is largely sourced locally. Every seat is the chef's table with an open view and conversation with Nathan or Diane while enjoying sweeping views of the orchards. Every course was a carefully calculated layering of flavor that ensured no bite was wasted. They even threw in a couple surprises. The price shows as $$$$, but honestly you cannot go to a $$ and enjoy an appetizer and dessert for his price let alone 7 courses. Additionally, the wine list is extensive and all the wines were priced at the same prices as you would pay in the tasting rooms around the region which meant they were maybe half the price you would pay at any other fine restaurant. Imagine having dinner at your rich uncle's mansion on a vineyard on the hill with an amazing view and he's decided to cater the dinner, but you get to choose from a menu. That's what it feels like - intimate with a view of the kitchen and gourmet-all-the-way 5 star cuisine. This was such an amazing experience. We have been trying to eat/stay here for a long while! It was my 26th birthday on the 30th and we came here to celebrate! The food from the chef, Kelly was absolutely FANTASTIC! Each course was different, tasted amazing, had great flavor profiles, and was well aesthetically put together. He was super knowledgeable about his menu and food choices as well as had so much care as to what the customers wanted. Great dinner experience. It's a fairly small dining room adjacent to the kitchen. It's small, but they don't cram guests in there so there's plenty of room to feel romantic and private. The waitress was nice as well as the chef who brought out various plates. The food was all good, but the chocolate croissant bread pudding dessert left the biggest impression on me. As far as the drive, we looked at each other several times when we turned off the highway and wound our way down a dirt road over train tracks and up a hill until we finally arrived at the beautiful mansion. read more

Wonderful dining experience. And it is an 'experience'...not just a meal. The staff is attentive and was absolutely on point the entire evening. They have a small but beautiful dining room with a spectacular view. The serve a pre-fixe menu, but there are lots of choices. Everything was beautifully plated. Little works of edible art. We started with an amuse bouche that was a tiny crispy won ton filled with beet mousse and blue cheese. Be sure and get the wine pairing...it was delightful and every glass complimented the food perfectly. For this course it was a perfectly balance slighty sweet Rose. Then it was mango topped with basil leaves and wrapped in prosciutto and edible soy paper. The honey pepper sauce drizzled on the plate was so good I literally licked it off. Good manners be damned! The entrees were delicious. At every step of the meal, there was some surprise. All items were perfectly seasoned, beautiful, interesting... and you could hardly wait for the next course. Absolutely the best food I've ever had in Walla Walla and I've been to every restaurant (because I adore good food). This also rivals the great restaurants on the wet-side (a.k.a. Seattle) as well. The Vine is part of the Cameo Heights B&B. The restaurant itself is small, maybe only 6 tables, which makes it good for an intimate dinner. Because of this, kids are not allowed. They, however, don't have a dress code. The first time I was there, I was with my sister and her boyfriend. We just came from wine tasting in Walla Walla and were wearing jeans. There were a couple who came nicely dressed and we were just hoping we didn't ruin the atmosphere for an intimate date. The food was scrumptuous. We had their Prix Fixe seven-course meal and it was excellent! They have an open kitchen and so you can easily see how your meal is being prepared fresh. Like any fine dining experience, they are not wanting in explaining how each meal is being prepared and with what ingredients. I like the fact that the chef serves the food himself, giving it a personal touch. We did not quite get that same experience on our second visit. We were a party of 6 and we had to be placed in their main dining area, outside of the restaurant. We definitely did not get the open kitchen experience and it was only occasional that the chef came out to serve our meal. That was not really a big turn down as our food was still one of the best we have tasted this side of Washington, and our server was still very attentive. Their menu changes every so often but they do have their favorites. It is hard to pick one favorite for me as each and every meal has it's own character and taste. We had the great pleasure of staying at Cameo Heights Mansion for two nights to celebrate our 20th anniversary. We elected to have dinner at the on-site restaurant, The Vine, both nights of our stay. It has an intimate setting with a direct view of Chef Nathan as he prepares your meal(s) in the open kitchen. Every item was prepared fresh and to order and was not only extraordinarily delicious, the presentation and plating were almost too beautiful to eat! Chef Nathan graciously answered all our questions and you could hear how passionate he was about what he did in the tone of his voice. He easily accommodated my vegetarian husband's needs in his selections. It was like having a personal chef! These meals were solidly in the top of our price range, but I simply cannot regret a single penny we spent on not just our meals, but on an outstanding and memorable experience. I'll admit I'm a pretty skeptical critic, but The Vine definitely lived up to its' reputation. I appreciated the open kitchen, and that the chef presented each course with an explanation on how to eat it. Each course was fantastic! I love that there is a seasonal menu, first of all. For my main course- the beef was cooked perfectly, as was the risotto. My husband and I kept sharing bites, and I was not disappointed by any of the courses! Besides the fact that the view was a dream, dinner was a treat waiting to happen. We followed Chef Nathan's recommendation and ordered the Lobster Mac and Pork Belly, paired with his wine recommendation, which were local and carefully chosen with every step of the course.
