Yay! Finally a restaurant that I want and will return to in Twain Harte. They have been under new management since last fall but this the first time we got the opportunity to visit. It certainly will not be the last time. It was a beautiful night to seat out on their patio. Though we did not bring our pups with this time it was nice to learn that the outdoor patio was dog friendly. I will also look forward to cooler nights and eating inside in the very comfortable indoor dining area or having a glass of wine and one of their many small plates in the cozy bar area. Their menu has a variety of options at reasonable prices. Nice hearty dinner options as well as sandwiches, small plates, salads and flatbreads. They also have a nice selection of beers on tap (beer flights available) They also offer wine flights from their somewhat eclectic selection of wines including very nice selections from Murphys, Paso Robles and Napa. Hubby had the chicken Alfredo pasta and was happy with his selection. I had the Caesar salad and the pearfection flatbread a perfect combination of carmelized onions, pears and Gorgonzola and arugula. I would have added a bit more arugula but it was yummy! read more

DO NOT GO HERE. My 8 year old daughter got SEVERE FOOD POISONING & my husband. ****please understand I do not want to give a bad review. I unfortunately do have to share the situation that transpired that was extremely concerning. I also did not want to write this without giving the restaurant a chance to correct the issue. I called them and that was appalling- I will write about that later. With them failing to correct the issue- I am forced to warn people. Myself, my husband, and my 8 year old daughter went there for dinner. We got there and got seated. I do want to point out the young man that was maybe the hostess was kind and accommodating. The real trouble started with the server who is also the owner. We placed our orders, I ordered a bbq burger, my husband ordered the V burger and my daughter ordered the v sliders. We waited an hour and a half with no updates on why our food was taking so long. It came out- with the server/owner woman (I think she had a piercing in mouth in front of her teeth- to explain what she looked like incase you're there). My husband was NOT served the dinner he ordered but instead the v sliders. It looked like a frozen chicken nugget was placed in the "chicken burger", a pulled pork (which I would be wary of- that is the only one that had too much sauce so you couldn't see if it was fully cooked). We pointed out immediately that was not what he ordered and she said oh we can make the other one if you want. Having already waited an hour and a half we said no, as we did not want to wait a minute longer. She said oh okay good, let me know if you need anything. Fast forward, we finished our very low quality meal (not only was it bad tasting/bad quality, but it was also overpriced. I want to say those 3 tiny sliders were $18 per plate). We paid- and tipped 20% to the server who we now know was the owner. When looking at the bill- she charged us full price for everything and there was never another mention of the mistake with bringing out the wrong food order. We paid and left. We as a family had all eaten the same food all day UP UNTIL THAT MEAL. My husband and daughter both got food poisoning, and I did not. My daughter was projectile vomiting from around 9PM-3 in the morning with her stomach in severe pain. I called today and calmly spoke to the owner, the minute she answered the phone, she seemed ready to argue. I got interrupted 4 times within the first 3 minutes of the call. I stated what I stated above, during the interruptions, she proceeded to say I will not get any type of accommodation because there are no other people that "called to complain" she used excuses like it was a busy night, said she'll check the kitchen etc. I stated, It does sound like those are things you need to take care of on the back end that don't have anything to do with me and this moment. I would like a refund. She said no and that there's no proof that that is what got us sick. I let her know I am appalled at the way she is interrupting me, speaking to me and handling this. I let her know I called to see how they can accommodate given the severity of this, and since it does not seem like she is going to do what's right I will have to write on Yelp to warn other people, she started raising her voice and telling me she won't stand for me "threatening her and her business". I let her know, there is no threat. I will simply state the facts of what transpired and how she is handling the situation, and I'll list her words so patrons can make their own decisions about visiting her establishment. I was hoping to love this newer addition to Twain Harte . The patio is beautiful and the menu looked appealing. Came in on a chilly Friday night on a holiday weekend. I was promptly , but Awkwardly greeted . There was a tense vibe amidst the younger servers and two middle aged women that I presumed to be owners /and/or managers . The inside was kinda meh . It felt kinda like a converted diner ? The fireplace was not lit , which was a disappointment ambience wise . The two presumed boss ladies were extra friendly to selective groups. As a single diner, I gathered my input just wasn't as important to them . ‍ My sever was a slightly older gentleman . He was super sweet , friendly , and attentive ! I agree with other commenters on the soup tasting canned . It was the minestrone and arrived lukewarm , but tasty enough . The taste of the "Caramelized" mushroom flatbread was amazing in a comfort food kinda way . However , it felt like something I could have made as a girl dinner in my oven , or even microwave from some good Trader Joe's ingredients . It lacked that wood fired crispyness I tend to associate with flat bread and was more like sourdough or maybe naan ? But , like , more doughy . My girlfriends and I stopped here for a late dinner. The food was delicious and the service was amazing. The owner chatted with us about wines, her menu, background, etc. It was great to get such a genuine and attentive experience. We tried the burgers, some appetizers, and wine flights, and loved them all. I've been eyeing this place since it opened, but hadn't stopped because I thought (for some reason) it was very, very upscale. It was very family-friendly and had a casual but nice vibe. This review is for a mix of service and food. The ambiance itself was fine, with a nice, upscale mountain ambiance with outdoor, dog friendly seating. We were promptly seated, as a party of two, and given ice water (much appreciated on a warm, Summer night). We sat 15 minutes without seeing ANYONE else, except our water guy who refilled our glasses. We finally appealed to him to see if we could speak to a wait person. Meanwhile, a party of six (seated AFTER us) already had appetizers showing up before we could even place an order for anything (drinks or food). We ordered our wine and food simultaneously for fear it would be another 15+ minutes before we saw the server again. We were never offered any bread, though we have in prior visits to this restaurant. My husband ordered the chicken Parmesan dinner, with a Caesar salad, while I ordered the small plate Buffalo Mac n' cheese with chicken. We waited another 20 minutes or so for the food. I bet my husband that his salad would come the same time as the entree, but it was worse, since he NEVER got the salad. He had to tell the server it did not come and, at that point, told her to not bother with it. His meal was mediocre at best and there was never even a mention of discounting his meal for the salad that never came. My Mac'n Cheese tasted like someone poured Velveeta cheese (plus some buffalo sauce) over the macaroni with some chopped chicken (when a shredded chicken would likely have been better). Our wait staff never came to check in with us about our meal and we eventually had to ask for our check (then finally take our check to the hostess station--since the waitstaff also delayed in picking up our bill). I worked in this field through college, so I know good service and when to cut others a break. The restaurant was not busy....our waitress had only two other tables I could see (and I had full view of the dining room) and her blonde peer who had 5+ tables was hoofing it the entire time to provide what appeared to be great service to all of them. I tipped the water guy, who was literally the only one providing good, attentive service. I left our waitress zero tip, and we will not come back. I'd rather go somewhere else in TH or make the trek to Sonora, where there is enough restaurant competition to inspire better service and more consistent food quality. read more

This place has so much potential with the setting. Unfortunately the food is middle of the road. We tried appetizers and they Seemed like they were microwaved. First, I just want to note that most of the bad reviews were focused primarily on the service from the early days when they were first getting set up--which I feel is understandable for any new restaurant. Having said that, my wife and I have now been to The Villa three times and have enjoyed it on all three occasions. I think I will always love the flatbreads more than anything else they serve--they now offer quite a variety of choices and we've loved everything that we've tried so far. By far my favorite is the Margherita flatbread, though we also love the curry chicken flatbread and the caramelized onion and mushroom flatbread (and others that don't come to mind right now). I also really like their Lemon Chicken and the potatoes that come with it--although it has a really great flavor, I've never been able to detect anything resembling a lemon, so if you are hoping for some citrus flavor, maybe pass on this one--but do so at your own risk because the overall flavor really is great. Although I've never actually tried the minestrone soup (I've never been a fan of minestrone), my wife really likes it--and despite what one other reviewer says, she's adamant that it is definitely NOT from a can. Finally, we both thought the bread was very good--we wish they would sell it by the loaf since this town is absolutely bereft of any good bread. Oh, and the service has always been great--I don't know what some people are complaining about--though we never visited in the early days, so maybe we missed the bad period. A few negatives: I love a good Caesar salad but, to be perfectly honest, the Caesar dressing really did taste like it came out of a bottle. Maybe I'm biased because I have a really kick-ass Caesar recipe that I love but, knowing how well they make other items, I really expected more from them. Maybe I'll pass my recipe on to them.... Also, their online menu could use a little help--simply listing the names of the items without descriptions means that nobody will ever order items called "The Villa Flatbread" or "The Junior" since the name gives absolutely no indication of what they are actually made from. Only other negative actually has to do with an item that I haven't even ordered: I've seen pictures of the hummus and would love to try it but I simply cannot bring myself to pay $14 for any hummus, no matter how fancy you dress it up--and that makes me sad as hell because I love a good hummus and it really does look great--there's just no way that hummus should be priced in the double digits--inflation or no inflation. And $12 french fries??? C'mon...the price of potatoes did not increase 10x. Having whined about that, however, overall, both my wife and I are extremely happy that The Villa moved in. We're locals and have been consistently disappointed by the offerings from our little ten-restaurant town (since Robert and Prospectors packed up and left town)....but The Villa has restored our faith that little towns can have great food. read more

I'd never eaten here under "new management" before, so thought I'd give it a try. I'm a local and usually the locals talk about where to go and where to avoid. My party showed up here around 4:30 and it was DEAD inside. Only one other elderly couple was in the entire restaurant at dinner time. Usually that means the locals have talked and I just haven't gotten the message. But we stayed anyway because I was hungry and I didn't want to drive into town. People who are temperature sensitive should be aware that there's no air conditioning in this restaurant. First off, the waitress was super nice. I really liked her genuine warmth and attentiveness. The food, however, was where the letdown was. I was interested in a good charcuterie board, but none of it was worth the $20 it cost. An apple? Grapes? Pepperoni? Cheese? The picture on the website looks like a kid's lunchable. I think someone needs to do research on a good charcuterie experience. So we skipped that and got an appetizer. It was all fried food. All of it. Like okay, so maybe a bar food theme? The fried pickle was unique and delicious - something you can't get at every restaurant here in town. However, I ordered the burger for the main course and was surprised that it didn't have much flavor. The bacon on it was good by itself, but the whole package wasn't the flavor bomb that I've become accustomed to most burgers being. Everything tasted kind of "same." I hate to use the word "flavorless" in a review, it's such a throw-away word that's usually used by people with a chip on their shoulder. But really, the burger was lacking flavor. Someone in my party got onion rings and they were, also, severely under seasoned. Perhaps it was just a bad onion, but the onion inside wasn't sweet the way most onion rings are (perhaps they used yellow instead of sweet?) and there was no salt on the rings themselves. Everyone else in the party ordered burgers as well and they had the same conclusion - "I didn't taste any of the advertised flavors in the description." It's also worth noting that these burgers were GREASY as heck. Like, a puddle of grease on my husband's tray. I had the pleasure of spending the rest of the night at home with some pretty bad stomach cramping and nausea. My husband had some gastro issues as well. Nothing major, I wouldn't label it food poisoning, but it was uncomfortable enough not to go back. It's a shame because someone clearly spent a lot of time and money decorating the place. But as we all know from Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares, people don't show up for decor, they show up for good food. read more

It takes a lot for me to leave a bad review, especially for a mom and pop. But our meal tonight was legitimately one of the saddest meals we've had in a long time. We ordered the Lemon Chicken. It came with a side of mashed potatoes and zucchini. We opted for a side of tomato basil bisque to go with it. We also ordered The Bruschetta - flat bread fiesta. For starters, all the food was luke warm, at best, so not a great start. The Lemon Chicken did not taste like lemon. Really it lacked any flavor. Most disappointedly, it didn't appear to be fully cooked (see photo). The zucchini suffered the same fate and was still extremely crunchy and bland. The mashed potatoes were the only decent part of that plate, though it also lacked flavor. The tomato bisque was the consistency of a pasta sauce (see photo). It wouldn't be surprised if it came from a can. Lastly, The Bruschetta - "flat bread fiesta" was missing several ingredients - ones that specially make it bruschetta. No basil, no garlic, and hardly any tomatoes (see photo). Nothing about this was a fiesta. There aren't many food options in town, so having to cross this off our list is extremely disappointing. read more

One of our favorite places to go as a family! The menu has something for everyone from homemade flatbread to chicken parmesan, we always find something yummy to eat. The wine and beer menu is local and abundant. And the desert menu is also a hit, with a favorite being the lemon berry mascarpone cake. Perfect family or date night restaurant year around! read more

It is a shame to have to write this negative review since the food wasn't bad. The service was the worst I've ever seen in my entire life. We had no forks, spoons or knives, and no napkins. Which is fine, we asked for some when we ordered our appetizers. 20 minutes later our appetizers came out and she only brought 3 plates with 5 of us at the table. Once again we asked to get napkins and more plates. After we had just about finished the appetizers she brought us 2 extra plates but still forgot the napkins. After about 20 minutes later while we were waiting for our food, I went inside to wash my hands because we clearly weren't going to get napkins unless we begged. Then after asking our waitress for the 3rd time for napkins she brought them to the table and proceeded to blame the hostess for the mishap even though we asked her personally 3 times for napkins. Then after our food wasn't being brought out she had an extra flatbread that we didn't order and proceeded to talk under her breath as she walked away insinuating that it was our fault. Oh and we had to beg to get our waters refilled as well. Overall kind of an amazing experience that we'll remember for the rest of our lives. Just such a shame that this place most likely won't be open in 6 months, and it's clear to see why. read more

First time visiting this place. The table clothes look like wrinkled black bed sheets. I was thinking it was such a simple thing to avoid and make a better first impression. But I was keeping an open mind. My water glass was dirty and my wine glass was dusty. I ordered the Italian wedding soup. My soup was cold and tasteless. So I didn't eat it. I ordered the chicken parm. My pasta was cold and the chicken was like a big chicken strip with sauce on it. It was the only thing , hot on the plate. I ate the chicken and left the rest on the plate. It was unappetizing. There were 2 big parties and a party of 3 next to us. Every other group got very good service. Our server never offered to refill my husband's lemonade Same with my wine. She never checked in after we got our food. He ordered the "baked" ziti. It was served in a skillet, which should indicate that its would be piping hot. However,the cheese on top was half melted. In some areas The individual strands of cheese were visible because they were not melted l. Half of the dish was hot and the other half was lukewarm. Very disappointing experience. Even though we had heard bad reviews from people in the Bay Area, we decided to give the Villa a try. We think everyone deserves a chance, but that was a really bad decision! Our experience was less than 1! The service and the food were both horrible. Our charcuterie board was made from sliced cheese, the kind you put in a sandwich. We waited for our food for over an hour! They forgot my meal entirely! My daughter's nachos were awful. The ones at the snack shack at little league games were a step above these. Our friend's pasta was bland and had no taste. When we talked to the owner, we were all very surprised that she was making excuses about it being a holiday weekend instead of owning the unacceptable service and terrible food. After we left we went home and ate dinner. This is a one and done place. If you want good service and good food do not waste your time or money on this place. I never write reviews but this was the worst experience ever. This restaurant is very under staffed and you can tell the servers were stressed. Our food was absolutely horrible. The Caesar salad was just lettuce with little pre packaged chicken bites cut up that didn't look edible. The nachos were basically fair food with fake cheese. My little daughter wouldn't even eat the slider because she said it tasted weird. The server never even came back to check on us when we got our food and we didn't even touch most of it. We are thilled to have a good Italian restaurant back in Twain Harte. We were greeted at the door by a friendly, young hostess. Our server Allison was helpful and friendly. We started our meal with tasty calamari and a glass of Oak Farm Barbera which was smooth and delicious. We ordered the bruschetta flatbread which had amazing flavor, we think the balsamic glaze was outstanding. Being a tomato lover, I would have loved to have 10 times the tomatoes, but that probably would have been too messy for a restaurant - lol. The wedge salad was a great choice to go with our flatbread. I can't wait to enjoy a meal on the lovely patio when the weather warms up. On a final note, I was happy to hear they have a gluten free flatbread option for my family members who are allergic to gluten. read more

On 7/28/24 was my husband and I second visit and we had a wonderful dinner at The Villa out on the patio. The service that we both received from waitress Alison was the best. She went out of her way to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. The Ambiance inside and out on the patio of The Villa along with great views of the pine trees & music playing in the background. We had a party of 3 and had the most lovely afternoon. First service was superb, honest and knowledgeable. Second the wine was excellent. And third the flatbreads, caprese salad and cheesecake were all perfect and fresh. I even brought a pepperoni flatbread home and my picky teenager said it was the best. Unfortunately we were the only guests in the restaurant, which worries me. Please help support this restaurant and give it a try. They are really trying to be successful. read more

The Villa has been open for a few weeks now and my husband and I were excited to try it. It's an excellent location with a beautiful patio that's been needing someone to take over and breath new life. We didn't have a reservation, and in spite of being quite busy they were able to get us a table outside, right away. Our server was excellent. The food came quick and was amazing. I was bummed they were out of the olive app I wanted, but we had the calamari appetizer, a flatbread pizza, and chicken parmesan. Each dish exceeded our expectations. Service was great, food was excellent and the pricing was just right. My wife and I shared a large caesar salad and The Villa flatbread. The salad was good not great, but the flatbread was absolutely delicious. Our server offered a small tasting of the wines we were considering ordering so that we could choose what we liked. We spoke to the owner on our way out and had a wonderful conversation about the possibility of offering more gluten free options as our daughter has celiac disease. Went to The Villa to celebrate my son's graduation. The ambience was beautiful and the food was absolutely delicious. The curry chicken flatbread was unique and so flavorful. My party of 4 was really looking forward to trying this place! The food choices sound amazing and seem really appealing. But sadly, I can't comment on how good the food is because we left after sitting for 30 minutes without anyone asking us what we wanted to drink or order. If it was busy, it would have been understandable. But we were a party of 4 among 3-4 other parties. The restaurant wasn't packed at all, so it's a bummer because we would like to see small businesses thrive in Twain Harte. Hopefully they can be more attentive to their diners and at least come to check in or have us order drinks or appetizers within the first 30-35 minutes. We're not opposed to giving them another shot next time. Hopefully it would result in an updated positive review ! read more
