    Rebecca and sweet Ginger

We spotted Sierra Cellars as we started our stroll through Twain Harte and were happy to see they would be open on a Tuesday afternoon so we could stop back in. It looked so welcoming and homey from the outside plus the "Winers Always Welcome' on the front window drew me in. As soon as we walked in we were warmly welcomed by Rebecca, the owner. She asked whether we preferred whites or reds and when we responded with both, she began our tasting. We tasted both the Old Vine label which she said was made exclusively for a restaurant in New York and the Sierra Cellars label which was her own and only available in the tasting room. We tasted through two Chardonnays, two Pinot Noirs, a Merlot, a Cabernet Sauvignon, two red blends and a Sangiovese. To be honest, I wasn't expecting much for a couple reasons - #1 the rack of wines by the door priced at only $8 and #2 the fact that her tasting fees ($5) and bottle prices ($18) were more than reasonable. Silly me - boy was I mistaken. Each wine we tried was delicious! Rebecca's pours were generous so that you could savor a few sips of the wine to really get an idea of each wine's notes. The Chardonnays were done in stainless (the Sierra Cellars spent 1 months in oak barrel). The reds were on the lighter side with a lower alcohol content, nice fruit forwardness and were quite easy drinking. If I had to pick a favorite, I would really have trouble narrowing it down to one. In fact we took home 6 bottles. After our tasting, we decided to have a glass and enjoy the company of Rebecca and some of the locals who had stopped by for a glass. The $5 pour of Sangiovese filled my rather large wine glass - again quite generous. Of course with our purchase, the tastings were comped. I loved all the wine related art and knick knacks she had scattered throughout the tasting room. She had some beautiful boards done by a local which we decided would be a great start to a Christmas gift for dear friends. The room itself was comfy with bar seating as well as small tables. There was an outdoor area as well as a room to the back she dubbed "the speakeasy". She also had a rack of kitschy wine glasses which were for her regulars (she knows which glass belongs to each person). All I can say is this is a gem of a shop and if I lived nearer, I would become a regular too! I can't end this review without mentioning Ginger, Rebecca's rescue Great Dane. What a sweetheart she was! The tasting room is dog friendly so if you live near Twain Harte and have not yet visited, stop in. You won't be disappointed! Highly recommend!

Stopped in while up in a cabin in Twain Harte. Rebecca was working. She was so friendly, funny and made our experience 100 percent worth it. $5 tasting fee and waived when you bought bottles. All the bottles were very well priced under $25. Another dog friendly place. Must go to if you are traveling through or live in the area.

My other half and I have been coming here since we bought a second home in the area in 2021. Coming here feels like the wine bar equivalent of 'Cheers,' as we are always greeted by the owner Rebecca as old friends. Like many others, we keep our own 'liquid therapy' wineglasses there and she brings those exact glasses out each time we walk in. I love the histories she provides on each wine she pours, and the reasonable prices really cannot be beat. We live mainly in Central CA coast (amongst literally hundreds of wineries--so basically we have wine more than blood coursing through our veins), and we have yet to taste a wine here that we didn't love. One of my favorites is a Prosecco, but there's also a lovely dark red blend and a Zinfandel. We love saying hello to Abbey (the winery dog) and seeing all the decorative items she sells in her store. I recently came in shortly before Twain Harte's annual Christmas parade...Rebecca stayed open late so her customers could gather there for some local cheer and then literally walk right out the front door to view the start of the parade. We will keep coming back, as this is one of our favorite stops in our second hometown.

The wine was sub par, but the owner felt very good that it was on the Today show. Still only $5 a tasting. Patio needs cleaning.

Fortunately, we remembered passing a sign for Indigeny Reserve and saw on the map that it was within walking distance. Since it was already after 3pm and they closed at 5pm, we decided to drive over and make the most of our afternoon before they closed. When we walked in, the building was empty, but we were eager to try a cider tasting. Browsing the shop, we found a variety of merchandise--shirts, hats, sweaters, and an assortment of cheeses, crackers, chips, and other tasty treats. Eventually, a friendly staff member greeted us and offered the $10 tasting. Since closing time was approaching, she joked about giving us paper cups to avoid running the dishwasher. We didn't mind, but she kindly served the cider in glasses, which made the experience nicer. She also offered a whiskey tasting in a cool room lined with barrels and tables, plus gift boxes and other products. The whiskey tasting was just $2, with three varieties to sample. I'm not much of a whiskey fan, but I appreciated that she wasn't rushing us out. Both of us loved the Blackberry cider, so we each ordered a glass to enjoy outside. The outdoor area is expansive, with wooden benches, tables, and lawn chairs scattered across a grassy lawn overlooking a large vineyard. Only a few couples and families lingered--likely because of the early closing time. After relaxing with our ciders, we wandered down the trail to the lake. Along the way, we discovered old barns, a whimsical gnome area, and several upside-down boats tied up near the shore. If the boats hadn't been secured, we joked about taking one out for a row on the lake! We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Indigeny Reserve and, in retrospect, wished we had brought the teens along. Still, it made for a wonderful little date.

The road leading to the winery is a one lane road in an extremely rural area. My sister lives in PML (Pine Mountain Lake) and discovered this wine recently and has been raving! She ordered a case of their wine and off we were to pick it up! The winery is currently not open for regular wine tasting visits. You can order online and pick up the wine. It is a modest winery set back up on a hill. It is a gorgeously isolated location. The winery has a philosophy of less is more. The wines are available for retail at approximately 13 retail locations in the sierra foothill community. Look on their website for the list! They support local charitable organizations in the surrounding rural communitites. Yes, I researched this winery on their website. The wine is that good! The Tannat is amazing! I am a beer snob, but not necessarily a wine snob. But, I do know good wine when I taste it! Order 6 plus bottles and you get a deal! Whoop! If you are going to visit Yosemite, order online and come here for a case or two of wine. You will NOT regret it! Leave yourself plenty of time to drive here. It is very rural and deserves to be driven slow and careful. Enjoy the ride! Cheers, Happy Yelping!
