Come here for the convenience (great location!), not customer service...the owner guy is pretty sassy

I had a very disappointing experience at the UPS Store on Independence Blvd in the Haygood Shopping Center in Virginia Beach. The employee working the counter attempted to charge me significantly more for shipping by increasing the dimensions of my box by over 2 inches on every side. Since UPS pricing is based heavily on size and weight, this made a noticeable difference in cost. When I questioned the measurements, I was given a confusing explanation about "inner dimensions" that honestly made no sense. It wasn't until I told him I would take my package somewhere else that he suddenly agreed to remeasure the box correctly. Once he did, the shipping price dropped by almost $5. Customers should be aware and pay attention to the measurements being entered when shipping here. I understand mistakes happen, but this did not feel honest or transparent. read more

Rude and unprofessional service. I stopped by the UPS Store on Independence Blvd and had one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had. The man who appeared to be the owner (a short, foreign Danny DeVito-looking guy with no name tag) handed me a tape gun and told me to tape my own package, then threw me the plastic label slip like I should already know what to do with it. When I asked for him to do his job, he got defensive and said, "Don't tell me what to do in my store." He also made me feel stupid for not understanding their self-label setup -- even though I just wanted him to handle my return like every other UPS store does. The place wasn't even busy; there was only one other person there. I didn't realize I was supposed to do everything myself at a UPS store. His attitude and tone were completely unnecessary. I'm in Haygood Shopping Center often, but only in this store a half dozen times over 15 years. Surface parking is plentiful with the lot and walk up clear of debris. The signage is excellent. I had an Amazon drop off, so an easy scan, get receipt and go. The clerk, most likely the owner was pretty Ho Hum. I saw no other staff. I would still return. read more

The notary dated my mortgage papers 8 days later than the actual date my husband and myself were signing. I do take some accountability for not checking his work. As a notary isn't he there to witness your signature and date? As a result, my mortgage application was denied. It cost me well over the $40 he charged me. Completely useless and unapologetic. The mortgage company found multiple mistakes made by this notary. Obviously he is not aware of what a notary is expected to do. read more

Great, convenient location near base and Pembroke mall but waaay understaffed. Employee was a great guy, comedically apologized to customers for the wait, but 1 person cannot keep up with location demand. I waited over 25 minutes just to drop off 2 Amazon returns (scan 2 barcodes, print labels, done). It would have been longer if 2 people in front of me didn't bail. Also noticed several people behind me walk in and out. Shared shopping center lot for parking. No public restroom. read more

This is my "Go To" spot to drop off pre-paid packages. The location is great, in Haygood Shopping Center. You can pull up right in the front loading zone and run in and out quickly with packages. There are also ample parking spaces in the shopping center, should you need more time. Haygood Shopping Center is on Independence Boulevard about midway between Town Center & Shore Drive. The store is always clean & inviting, offering packing materials on shelves lining the wall. The layout is perfect to handle busy seasons with a relatively large area for waiting/lines. There are 2 service stations, although only one is usually needed. The Owner is friendly and helpful. He remembers regulars and has their information in his UPS computer. If you have pre-paid packages & he's busy, it's fine to pop in, say pre-paid and leave the package on the counter, which he acknowledges with a nod. I've recycled packing peanuts, bubble wrap & heavy packing boxes by taking them to him. I highly recommend this UPS Store. They are honest, helpful & don't try to inflate the cost. read more

This UPS Store location is fine. It's in a great location (Haygood Shopping Center) at the corner of Independence Blvd and Haygood Rd and there's plenty of parking. The person working the time I stopped by (5:40p on 3/3/21) was laid back, like The Dude laid back (well, without the excessive marijuana use). It seemed like he almost FORGOT I was there. I walked in with a package I needed to return per Amazon. When I got to the counter I heard, "I'll be there in a moment," or something similar, from the back. I waited for about a minute, then someone came towards the counter to meet me. That same guy then motioned with his hands, almost to indicate he forgot his gloves, then walked back to where he came from. I believe as he was walking away he stated, "I'll be right back," but I'm not sure. I ended up waiting another couple of minutes before uncle finally appeared with a question, "Are you ready?" There must've been a disconnect somewhere, but I replied, "Yes, I'm ready," and he scanned a code from my phone to take care of the return shipping. He asked if I'd like a receipt, I replied, "Yes," he printed it out and I was on my way. The transaction seemingly could've been done in less than a minute, but I was there for 3. Three minutes doesn't seem like a lot, but the time I waited just for him to finally get to the counter to assist me was excessive. Oh well, I'm not normally in this area so I won't likely stop by this UPS Store location much. But in the future, if I need to drop off another package for return shipping, I may think twice before heading this way. JV read more

I had such a delightful experience at this UPS store that I decided to write a Yelp review about it. I went to drop off a package and as I waited my turn to be served, I overhead the owner of the store has been operating for close to 12 years now! The wait was longer than I expected but as a classic millennial I entertained myself on my phone. When it was my turn I received one high five for having everything prepared already (shipping and return address written on the box) and another high five after I paid. It's such a mundane thing to mail a package but I came out of this UPS with a smile on my face. read more

I will NEVER come back here ever again! The man behind the counter clearly does not want to do his job. It was very obvious that he did not want to take the time to pack and ship my printer. As he was taking measurements to give me a price on the packing, he was stepping on other boxes and packages. He had zero regard for the items (packages) that were thrown across the floor. He also proceeded to tell me that he could not mail my package until tomorrow because he just didn't have time. I find that very odd since I was trying to mail my package at 9 AM. He was very rude, and I have no desire to ever return to this location to mail ANYTHING. If I could, I would give this location less than one star!! He has ruined my Day!! read more

I almost didn't write this review, it seems a bit like punching down, since so many people have got similar stories about this place over the course of the last couple of years. I would imagine that that speaks more to an issue with this location itself, than just one employee. The short of it is, the individual working there was very rude, treated our request to ship an Amazon "label free box free" return as if it was an insult to him, and felt the need to embarrass my Mom in front of a store full of customers about forgetting her mask at home, despite the fact that she was vaccinated, gotten her booster, and was wearing the top of her shirt over her mouth and nose the entire time she was in the store. He loudly broadcast to the store that she was endangering the lives of him and his family, and everyone else in the store. To the store itself: Problems like this don't typically work themselves out. I'm sure for now this is just another complaint on top of a growing pile, but eventually these will catch up to you. Hopefully UPS Corporate and Amazon will hold you accountable for the way you treat people. You need to do better. read more

UPS is my favorite way to send and receive packages. They're the most reliable, informative, and on time! What I believe they could do better in this store is carry more shipping supplies. If they have more boxes of different sizes, not just square, but also shorter rectangular sizes, that would be great. If you fit the box closer to the size of the item being shipped, it reduces the risk of your packing materials settling and the equipment inside getting damaged as the open space around it increases. They could carry some ESD bags, since mailing electronics is a very common thing these days. I don't have many gripes about UPS, but I would like to see the quality of their stores improve to meet the quality of their shipping service, if not better. read more

ZERO STARS.... Bernie, the employee today was so unprofessional, over charging for packaging and berating my husband in the store. My husband went to this store to get a computer monitor packaged. First he was told they did not have time to get it done and it wouldn't be shipped until Thursday. Then when my husband informed him that it had to be shipped by tomorrow at 6pm, he made my husband start packaging things while he was talking to other customers at the front of the store. My husband is a non-confrontational person and of course did this for Bernie. Bernie never gave my husband an estimate of how much this would cost. At the end, he told my husband it would be almost $200, and the shipping had already been paid for so this was just for packaging. When my husband told him that I was not willing to pay that much he started yelling at him and told him he had to pay at least $130 just for the packing peanuts... again I told him no, we wouldn't be paying that much for packing peanuts he started yelling at my husband again staying my husband had to pay him for the labor of packaging (which my husband helped with) and that would be $100... again I said no. And he countered with $60 to pay for the Tape.... $60 for tape?! Nope again sir. At the end of it I told my husband that I would like to speak with this employee, when my husband tried to hand him the phone, Bernie was trying to get out of talking to me, telling my husband to just pay what he thinks he should pay him. At this point I was done with this entire store, trying to swindle my husband out of money. Absolutely do not recommend this store. This store is absolutely horrible. The manager running the store is rude, obnoxious and doesn't care about customer service whatsoever. The last time I went into this store, he tried to up charge an elderly woman. When I intervened, he told me to mind my own business. Because of this, I go five miles further out of my way to go to another UPS store. I logged a complaint with UPS Headquarters, but they did nothing. They should not allow this individual to work there, let alone run the business. I would recommend to STAY AWAY and go to another store. read more

I dropped off Amazon returns to this location to be packaged/labeled by the store free of charge. The manager there was so rude--couldn't stop complaining about how I should have brought in boxes, then taped up the boxes saying he would have charged me...c/o how Amazon is "cheap". Customer service cannot be worse here. Employees are extremely slow and not very friendly. The wait time is ridiculous! Especially at the pick up line. They need to hire more people or add another employee at the line. If you have to pick up a package or request a service you literally need to have at least 2 hours spare time of your day. This location definitely needs improvement. Sad enough this is the post office that service my area so I guess me and many others don't have much other choice but deal with the long wait and slow service and continue writing negative reviews about this location. Management definitely needs to consider restructuring of the departments and make sure lines are moving faster and customers are satisfied not irritated from wasting valuable time in the line. read more

Was a but put off by the owner. Was in there mailing packages with my husband. The moment he realized my husband was a Master Chief he stopped helping me and focused on my husband. Really? I asked him a question and he directed his answer to my husband - twice! When I wAs leaving I told him (the owner) that the odds of him seeing my husband again is slim to none as I typically do all the package mailing and I politely suggested to him that he be nice to ALL his customers. Among the things this store stands out for is random early closings and late openings of the store without prior notice. The store is disorganized in terms of mail box services. The owner of that store is not a very honest person. He would prefer to lie when things are not right rather than admit a mistake. He would never apologize for anything. The only thing he would do is give you a "Yes Sir" treatment when you confront him. This place should be kicked out of the UPS franchise. Bernie has a very bad attitude if you are just dropping of a pre-paid package that a retailer has requested that you do. He seems angry if you are not buying postage or product from him. If a retailer says to drop it off at your local UPS store, then you do it. It's not our fault! He will say his computer is down or point you to another UPS store as well. Cursing under his breath that he only makes "a quarter or fifty cents" for prepaid packages. Save a trip and pick a different place! UPS should send a secret shopper to this location! read more

Ok. I would give zero stars, but that is not an option. Although I thought Yelp was just for restaurants and such, I am compelled to simply state the facts of my two poor experiences here. 1st time I went in I had a box prepared and labeled. All I needed was 2 pieces of tape to seal the top. The owner (I presume...a short Filipino guy), took my box and said "Ok, that will be $1 for the service". Well...since I have used UPS Store a dozen times in the past elsewhere and I have never been accosted with such a statement, I simply replied, "ok...sure. Ummmm, but let me ask. I usually go to a different UPS Store and they never have charged a fee for taping a box." He said "I don't make any money on these pre-paid shipping labels. And I have to pay for the tape. Otherwise if everyone uses my tape, I cant make any money". Wow. this was his 1st interaction with me! Then he said "Don't worry about it. Next time, just come in with the box wrapped". I was aghast. I had not planned to return. Fast forward 4 months. I needed to get a shipment out on a return of some computer equipment. I had the box fully wrapped and labeled. I walk in. He is in back of store. He says "just leave the package there. I will take care of it". I reply "Can I get a receipt?. That way I'll have a tracking number etc" He says..."you don't need a receipt. And you should have the tracking number in the email." Un-Believe-able!! I said, "well, just because I drop a package at the store, it doesn't mean that you have seen it. I mean, what happens if I left without receipt and god forbid something shld happen like a robbery, flood or haha...you decide not to mail it". He said "We at UPS are good for our word. We are not liars. When we say we are going to do something...we are going to do it." What he fails to realize is that if I walk out of store without receipt, then this merchandise worth over $800 could easily 'disappear' and he could say he never received it. And if I went in front of a judge, the judge would say 'Did you get a receipt'. Then the judge would laugh if I said "He told me I didnt need a receipt. He was trustworthy. He was UPS Store." In summary, I will drive out of my way and spend more time and gas rather than have what is guaranteed to be a hair raising experience. This store in Bayside on Independence Blvd is by far the filthiest store I think I have ever been in. As soon as I walked in, it was obvious. The carpet was filthy with what looked like sand, tracked in leaves and other trash. I doubt that they own a vacuum. I needed copies and while there I felt like I was in a day care center with a toddler running around who reportedly needed a diaper change. I was grossed out and disgusted, but things did not get any better. There were fingerprints and dust and trash such as used staples everywhere. I was literally afraid to touch anything, even my own documents. I paid the bill and left. I will never return to this store. I will go out of my way to find another. read more

Posted hours are they open at 8:00 AM, and they were not open at 8:34AM when I arrived. So I went to the Post office, at least with them, you can count on them being open on time. I'd call first to make sure youre not wasting your time. USPS is cheaper anyways.... read more

Don't ship here unless you absolutely have to (or any other UPS retail store). I had a package shipped from here next day air. I asked and was told the cheapest shipping rate was around $120. I decided to ship it because no other carrier could insure it for the amount I needed. A few days later I saw on my receipt that I was charged $100 service charge. I decided to look that up online and did a shipping estimate including the exact information from my original shipment. The online estimate was $60 less than what I paid! When I went into the store, the man said it was because they are a store location, they can charge differently. He said UPS makes him charge differently. I called UPS and they confirmed that, but said the store sets up their prices, not UPS. Customer service at UPS told me it's cheaper to fill out the information at home and print a label. I do have to say, the guy at the counter is nice, but I feel that he wasn't truthful when I asked him what the cheapest rate was. read more
