I walked in behind a line of people & waited patiently for my turn. When I get to the front of the line, a gentleman walks into the store and stands behind me waiting for his turn. The male worker- who saw me waiting but ignored making eye contact with me multiple times (which was odd but red flag #1)- called the gentleman who JUST walked into the store, in line behind me, to the counter to be served. Completely ignored me, blatantly. It was obnoxiously disrespectful. I left the store quietly after realizing what just happened, unsure why, and headed to another UPS location I know has better service. I only came to this location because it was closer to where I was prior, but I will never be returning to this location again. As a black woman and the only individual who looked like me in this store this whole time- this was very disgusting to experience while everyone else was served in order, with smiles- until I got to the counter.??? This store (Ninth St) charges $5 hold fees for packages, even if they are FREE UPS STORE PICKUP! Avoid! Use the Meadowmont (Chapel Hill) or Apex location. Even if your order receipt says free shipping to UPS store, this particular store charges a $5 hold fee regardless of the size of the package. Calling to complain means being interrupted and told that this is a franchisee so they can do whatever they want. The cashiers will not ask for verification that the item was listed as free UPS store pickup, they will just charge you the $5 per package fee in order to retrieve your package. Yes, it's just $5, but here's the thing. There is no recourse. The employees just say the manager can charge what they want, and UPS.com is different from these franchisee stores. All of the other local UPS stores do not charge this fee and made it clear to me that they are not allowed to charge it if is an item indicated as free UPS store pickup. I think this manager is hoping that nobody is going to take any time to complain or post information about this ridiculous policy since it is only $5 but it adds up, and for an item that costs less than $10, paying $5 for UPS to hold it when it was supposed to be free pickup is absurd. read more

Customer service can be improved. Closer from 6/21/24 evening seemed to be waiting to clock out & closed doors early, not sure if that is policy. They are nice and provide many services: Amazon returns, printing, and even notary. The manager and staff are friendly. The staff in the earlier shifts are more attentive and efficient. Later in the day, they are slow and tend to make errors. So it would be helpful to be a bit more vigilant if you go later in the day. read more

I paid extra to get a next day delivery so my important documents could arrive safely and on time. Its expected delivery date was 12/8, however today is 12/22 and I still haven't received the package. This was all because the staff member with brown curly hair and black glasses in the office got the sending and receiving information wrong!!! I have to cancel my flight tickets and hotel reservations because of her mistake, but she didn't even apologize to me. I went to their office at least five more times to look for my package but the staff at site were not helpful. The same staff with brown hair gave me the wrong customer service number when I asked her for help, and the manager refused to tell me that staff's name. I was in there 3/30/2024 around 12:40 ish pm and there was this lady yelling and saying comments to the poor girls that were working , the lady came in with a box all destroyed and wanted the young ladies to tape it , yes I understand they give out courtesy strip of tape (one) it's always been like that been coming here for years now . , but then people expect the workers to tape everything up for them using a lot of tape , the girls took it like a pro because I would've cussed them out if you ask me . Then the lady has the audacity to be like oh what's your return policy after using the tape like ma'am it does not work like that , obviously this lady has never worked in retail and understand customer service. The girls working this date did what they had too and handle it well , very lucky to have them working here . read more

Anthony rocks. This is way overdue because I've been meaning to call him out since last fall and I've been back many times since. He's always upbeat and game, and I realized the other day that even though I usually dread mailing packages, I actually like going to this store because I know it'll be a good experience. The other employees have always been good too, but Anthony stands out. He's also a notary, which is incredibly convenient - I think he's usually there 8a-4p weekdays if you need something notarized. The shop is small and sometimes there can get to be a backlog at busy times of day, but nothing I've seen indicates that it's the employees' fault - there just aren't enough good mailing services around for such a high-traffic area. They try to do a good job of monitoring the line and sussing out who needs what (e.g., if they notice someone in line has a package that's got a preprinted label and can just go straight in the pile, they'll send you over). I think the long wait times mostly crop up when they're understaffed, so UPS could stand to support the location with additional hires, maybe. Or just ask them what resources they need because they seem pretty on top of it. read more

I only ever come here when I have pre-paid labels on boxes I've already packed, so I can't speak to their costs or packing here. Each time I've come in, I've been promptly greeted and efficiently helped. This location has some of the best UPS customer service I've experienced. It's also a USPS drop-off site, so you can easily kill two birds with one stone here. The big downside to this location is the terrible parking lot. There's a strange one-lane entrance ramp and then an exit drive that cuts behind the building. That's not a problem, but some people can't seem to figure it out and block the entrance ramp because they decide to go out the wrong way. Parking on the street is much easier if you can find a spot and want to avoid a headache. read more

Accustomed to dealing with disinterested, disgruntled postal workers at our closest USPS office (which further frustrates me by closing at 2pm. [wth?]), delivering via UPS was pleasantly pleasant! I brought in my package, and a post-it with the send-to info, and the guy working typed it all up for me and printed it out -- no need for me to stand in line and fill out my own form. Awesome staff and service. My wife and I were able to get a PO Box from out of state when we moved to the Triangle in a hurry. We kept the box for a while and had no issues. I just got back to Durham after traveling for almost a year. I needed a secure mailbox to receive important legal documents as the letter carrier for my home address is completely unreliable. Came to print a two page document. Store rep asked that I email the document to the store to print. Store rep then charged me for both printing and COMPUTER USE. What the heck?! I have printed countless times at UPS, Fedex, and Staples stores, including at this location, and had never been charged for anything except printing when emailing the store a document to print. I submitted a complaint with UPS Store corporate about this location and will not be visiting it again. read more

This store is an absolute joke. For after 5 pm mail runs, I usually go to the UPS store off of Hillandale Rd, and have never had an issue and always had helpful and friendly service. When I moved closer to 9th street, I decided to give this location a try, because hey, it's the same company right? Wrong. My profession requires many things to be sent by Certified mail. At the Hillandale Rd. location there has never been an issue; there is generally an up-charge from the normal USPS fee of around $2-$4, but for the convenience, I don't mind at all. It started 1-2 months ago when I took a regular sized envelope (less than an ounce), pre-prepared certified/return receipt letter to this 9th St. location. The guy looked at my like I was out of my mind. I had to explain to him what it was, and that UPS has handled this many times before. He called someone, and then stated that fee would be $25 (not including the normal $6-$7 fee for certified mail) - meaning I would be spending almost $40 on something that usually costs less than $10. I told him that couldn't possibly be right, and that I've used UPS many times and never been charged more than $10, including the up-charge (it costs around $6 at USPS). He kept saying - like I was a child - that this wasn't USPS and that they charge $25. I told him I send certified mail at the UPS store several times a month, so I understand that there is an up-charge. Just not $25 dollars and that the fee was usually $8-$10 for everything included. He continued to insist I was wrong and insinuate I was lying, but finally after calling a few more people, and ultimately charged me around $12 - $15. I needed to send it out that day, so I was fine with that. A day or so later, I checked the tracking number online - it said the certified mail was never entered into the system. I looked at the receipt, and it did not look like a normal receipt that states the tracking number of the mail, rather, just said what the charge was. We had to spend even more money to overnight the document at that point. I called the store and explained the situation, and got an apology. I chalked it up to a new employee, and decided to "forgive and forget." Not over yet (this is my first review ever, can you tell I'm a little upset?). Fast forward to last week. I decided to give it another go because maybe last time was an anomaly. I walked in with two pieces of certified mail, handed them to a different guy than before, but the other guy was there as well. He saw me and without missing a beat said, "Oh. It's you. By the way, I WAS supposed to up-charge you $25 last time and here's the owners card if you want that explained to you." (apparently he's been thinking about this too) He acted like I was supposed to now repay him for him not charging me enough last time. He was extremely condescending. Here I was trying to let it go as a mistake because it doesn't make sense for two companies, with the same name, charge such vastly different prices for the same process. I'm sorry, I'm not a difficult customer, and am generally pretty laid back, but even I won't accept such a ridiculous mark up. I told him I just didn't understand how it was possible for a store of the same name, less than a mile down the road, to up-charge $3 when they charge $25. He just said that they have different owners and that was the fee. I told him that was fine, and I would take my business to the other UPS and never look back. If they want to up-charge $25 to send certified mail, then that's fine. Apparently they can. And they do. If that's the way they want to run their business, more power to them. I just think people should be able to make an informed decision before using their services. "Highway Robbery" doesn't even do this place justice. Not only are they ridiculously expensive - they are not friendly and do not do a good job. read more

Hi I came in your store today to complete an Amazon return. I enjoy using the small business on 9th st. The employee with long blond hair was in the corner on the phone. She went behind the counter and asked if she could help. I told her of my return and she said she needs the code. She tells me there is no cell service at the store and I could try in the corner where she was when I came in. How can you run a UPS business without cell service? So I can get the code through wifi NO the employees do not know the wifi password! So I asked her how they process Amazon returns and she just stared at me saying nothing. I left never to return. Do not go to this UPS!! The people at this UPS store do not know what they are doing. I came in and told them I needed to buy a box, and pointed to one of the size I wanted. They got me a box that was too big. I asked them for a smaller box, but instead of giving me one they just cut down the sides of the original box and filled it with air bags, and then decided to charge me extra for those things (rather than just allowing me to buy the right-sized box as I had originally asked). They also charged me for taping, without giving me a chance to tape it myself (they taped it while they were cutting the box and putting in the air bags). I had come prepared with tape and was planning to tape it myself so I didn't get charged for it. All in all I had a very negative experience and will not be going back here. They seemed like they were trying to be sneaky to charge me as much as possible, because they would do things and add things and then charge me for them without giving me a choice. read more

UPS is the absolute worst shipping company! I paid for 2 day air on a package, got confirmation emails that it would be on time and the day of delivery get an email stating it would be another 3 days. When I call to inquire I'm told that the high volume for the holidays is to blame, meanwhile the tracking info shows the package sat in their facility for 2 days. Now my math says it's impossible to ship a package in 2 days when it sits in a warehouse for 2 days, no matter what holiday it is. If you can't meet the obligations then you shouldn't sell the option! $50 dollars in shipping for 2 day air and it's going to arrive the same time as a $7 ground package. read more

I wouldn't recommend this location. My husband and I dropped off some spectrum equipment that was shipped to the wrong address. The boxes were never opened. The clerk was very rude as we walked on using negative slurs while speaking to a co worker. Once we go to the counter and told her we were informed by spectrum to just drop off the equipment. She proceeded to open each box and scan each piece. Afterwards she said the boxes were ours. Again this was equipment delivered to the wrong address. So my husband and I walked out. Later the next day the empty boxes were sitting outside the wrong unit again with my name attached. I'm sure that's a breech in security either way you put it. This individual took personal customer information and trespassed to prove a point once off the clock. Or stole from the company to ship empty boxes. We have since reached out to spectrum about the issue and the security team out our complex. read more
