When we walked in the two hostesses looked at us. Didn't greet. Just looked. After I greeted and asked for a table they said it would take 30-45 minutes although their were clearly empty tables. They offered if we wanted to sit on the patio. On a 100 degree day. We asked about the bar. They said that was available. Once inside we saw as other couples were seated at tables. The food was ok. Was glad to find out that they had a new location in Towne Lake after having tried the Kingwood location last week. We went with friends for dinner last night and the food was fantastic. We each had a different dish - Pork Chop, Salmon, Chicken Fried Steak and Shrimp and Grits. Everyone was very happy with the way the food was prepared and the service was top notch. Union Kitchen is a big upgrade over Jaxton's, which used to be in this location, at least in my opinion. We will definitely be back. read more

The prices are reasonable and all of our entrees were quite tasty. The hangar steak was tender and juicy, the dynamite chicken was true to its name: outstanding flavor with just the right amount of kick, and the ginger glazed salmon was mild and perfectly cooked. We finally got a chance to stop in and check the place out. We ordered the On the border chicken fried chicken and the Shrimp and Jalapeno Smoked Gouda Grits (minus the sausage). They have a special menu right now that features an INCREDIBLE chicken Marsala. I've seriously never had chicken this good. So juicy and flavorful. After moving the kid into PVAMU, I treated her and her besties to a meal. This is a beautiful location and welcoming staff. Our server ZAN was friendly and informative. We love this place. Typically my girlfriend and I share one entree, this time we shared two! It looked too good to only have one. We got the Short rib grilled cheese, and it was amazing. The short ribs were tender and delicious. Also, it's a huge portion and sharable. We also got the Shrimp and jalapeño grits, the shrimp was not overcooked and the sausage was amazing. Our new date night spot! I have been to two Union Kitchen locations and this one is easily my favorite. The vibe is industrial meets modern meets romantic. The kitchen and bar are open to the restaurant so you can see the employees hard at work. The food was prepared quickly and tasted wonderful. Don't sleep on their pizzas!! Taking off one star because while the food was prepared in a timely manner, we watched the bartender make our drinks and then they sat there for way too long prior to being brought to our table. We were one of only four tables occupied at the time for a late lunch, and it still took them over 20 min just to come take our order and another 50 min to bring the food out. One star for the friendly host. As for my experience here, i would give 0 stars. Literally typing this review as I'm sitting in the restaurant. Our server took a while to come greet us and take drink orders but took the other table's order as soon as they sat down. The food here is mediocre. We started with calamari, and i have to say the star of the show was the marinara sauce. The calamari itself was very battered and i felt like i ate more batter than i did calamari ... for entrees we got the THE chicken sandwich and the union burger they were both very mediocre. I thought the the chicken sandwich wouldn't be as heavy but it was literally dripping oil/fat out as i was eating it. My partner who got the union burger couldn't even eat half of it because it wasn't good at all. The best thing here was probably the fries and that doesn't say much. The food was not worth the price. Didn't even bother to get dessert here because it was no where to be found on the menu and we were over it. Better off getting dessert elsewhere. Everything took a while to come out. Even the request for a fork since one of us didn't get any utensils. Asked for togo boxes and check and that took a long time to come out as well. I would understand if the place was packed and busy, but it wasn't. Our server spent all of her time socializing with her other 2 tables and didn't even seem to care a little bit about servicing us. Let me start by saying that our server was very nice and helpful and definitely one of the few positives but there were too many other issues that affected our experience badly. The main issue was seating, as they initially put us in an isolated very tight place next to the servers station. We were not comfortable at all and asked nicely if we can move, so they moved us a little bit to the table right next to the back door. Which in hindsight was even worse because the staff and customers kept opening and closing that back door every 2-3 minutes which caused very string wind to blow each time and literally blowing away stuff from our table. To the point that 2 of us s starting having headaches and really didn't enjoy the meal at all. Food was ok. Calamari appetizer was average but isn't bad. My Trout was Meh and flavorless, but my spouse pistachio chicken was good. read more

The food is always pretty good, the drinks are always pretty good, but the bar service is extra slow. Twice I have actually waited until I walked away to another restaurant in the area because the service at the bar was slow. Setting - the location is very nice and busy. Lots of activities and the lake makes for a beautiful view. Food - amazing. We ordered the calamari for an appetizer. The flavor was great and very very nice. As our main dishes we got the fish and chips, shrimp and lobster quesadilla and the Italian flatbread pizza. Everything was very delicious. Lastly, of course we had to get the beignets! Amazing! The neighboring tables kept asking us what they were so they could order some too. Staff - Our waiter was not very nice. He seemed to rush us and was not very friendly. It was my brother's birthday and my mom asked our waiter if they did anything for birthdays. He responded that "We give a free order or beignets, but you guys already ordered that so we can't do anything else." My mom felt that was odd so she asked the manager and the manager came with a slice of chocolate cake and a candle. It was very very sweet of him. In no way were we expecting anything, but I think we were just taken aback by the waiter's response. Overall it was an amazing experience. Great environment and food. I just ate at Union Kitchen for the first time and I would definitely recommend this restaurant for its great food and amazing service! All of the staff members there were so friendly and it was such a warm and welcoming environment. I want to specifically mention Rob because he was so kind and made it such an enjoyable experience for us! Definitely try the calamari and the short rib grilled cheese-- you will not be disappointed! We will definitely be coming back! I also wanted to add that this was our first restaurant experience in MONTHS because we have been doing more takeout/curbside pickup for food during COVID, but I am happy to report I was very comfortably seated a safe distance from other patrons and all staff members were all wearing masks. Upon arrival was sorely disappointed. We had made reservations requesting an outside table - thinking it would be toward the lake. Sadly, we seated outside by the front door. When I went to look to see what was available waterside, there were half a dozen tables empty. So I spoke with the hostess, and she said when making a reservation, one must specifically request to be seated on the patio by the water. When I brought this to the GM's attention, he was very sympathetic and essentially admitted the reservation system was flawed - one has to specifically request a lakeside patio table - and there is no way to know so beforehand. My husband and I have dined here twice in the past few weeks and 3 times total. I really like this place, the food and drinks are always excellent. Sometimes the overall experience though has room for improvement, not bad though. When we came in 2 weeks ago, we had no reservation, but it was early on Friday evening and we were able to get a table. The table we sat at had crumbs on it. With all this Covid stuff, you think they'd sanitize it first. Our server was excellent though, I don't recall his name but he mentioned being a manager in another location in the past. He made some great suggestions and discussed the wine options with us. We started with cocktails which are hip and unique. I had the Mexican Martini and he had the Smoked Old Fashioned. For a starter, we tried the Nola VooDoo Balls which are really good but not sure worth the $12 for 5 meatballs. I had the fish and chips which was a lot, there were 4 pieces of fish with fries, hushpuppies and slaw. It was pretty good but the coating had a tendency to fall off the fish. Hubby had the Shrimp and Jalapeno Smoked Gouda Grits which were amazing. We had the Waterstone Chardonnay which we both enjoyed, not a typical Chardonnay because I felt it was more citrus forward but it worked. For dessert we split a piece of Bread Pudding which was very good, it was cinnamon with a bourbon caramel sauce with vanilla ice cream. It reminded me of apple pie though no apple was in it. This experience was enough to bring us back, this time with a reservation... 2nd recent visit, we had a reservation at 7pm on Saturday, it was busy that night. We were called about 15 minutes prior to confirm our reservation (we'd made that morning). I assured her we were on our way. We were seated fairly quickly, near a door to the patio with a clean table this time, so that was nice except for a few times when someone ran in and out the door and the cold air hit us. Our server was ok but I could tell she was busy, too busy to tell us about specials like we could hear the other server doing. We ordered our cocktails, this time I had the Highway to Paradise and he had a gin martini. My drink came with the drink spilled all around the glass making it very sticky to grab. His martini came with no olives which made him sad. The drinks did taste good though. We started with the baked herb cheese. The server dropped one of our pieces of parmesan bread so the manager brought out a plate with 5 more pieces which was way more than we could eat. This app I think could have used a little more of the basalmic reduction that was on it to kind of offset the wang that goat cheese has. I think they should have brought some appetizer plates, too, that would have been nice. The app could have been shared between 4 people, we couldn't finish it. My husband was looking forward to having the sous vide pork chop but they were out so he ordered the filet medallions instead. These filet medallions were so good, they had a nice smoky flavor, like they were cooked over a wood fired grill and were cooked to a perfect mid rare. It was served with mushroom risotto which was also perfectly cooked. I had the short rib. It was like I'd died and went to heaven, it's like the most perfectly cooked pot roast served on a bed of sweet potato puree and this delicious, flavor packed pan gravy. I don't know what I liked more, the sweet potato or the beef, it was just amazing. We paired this meal with the High Note Malbec which I rated a 4 out of 5 on vivino, very nice. We were so stuffed after this meal, we could not even think about having dessert. Both times, the manager stopped by to make sure we were having a good experience, overall, pretty good. Are you hungry? Are you looking at receiving reasonable service? Than this is not your places to attend. Before you make a Reservation at this low quality restaurant, make sure you have 2-3 hours to spare, Have patience, and you most importantly are not hungry. Arrived at the location at my reservation time, and was attended 10 minutes later after sitting, drinks arrived 10 minutes later and I placed my order, after waiting another 15 minutes I received a small appetizer. So now we are 35 minutes in and no food. Finally after another 30 minutes of waiting, still no food. Total of an hour of just sitting around and not seeing food come out from the kitchen. Guests around were also complaining of the low quality of service they have. If you plan to eat here, you may want to place an order 90 minutes before your reservation and MAYBE just MAYBE your food will be ready. read more

Great ambiance from the outside with the boardwalk having live music and kids playing etc. When we went inside the hostess was not welcoming we had to say hi to have her talk to us. No one else was in the lobby so it's not like she didn't have someone else to greet. When a table was ready for the 3 of us she walked thru the crowded tables way far ahead of us and put the menus on the table and left before we got there. Our waitress was maybe new and maybe had too many tables to cover?! Our drink order was one water and one beer and one iced tea. The water and tea came out quick and the beer wasn't ready. She said the bar was backed up tonight and it would be out soon- so maybe the tap blew on the keg?! 10 minutes later the beer came out. It was canned. Why a 10 minute wait for a can of beer? We ordered the meatball with voodoo sauce appetizer- they were decent. The sauce is good. Presentation on the appetizer was meh- but whatever. We had to ask for plates and silverware to eat. For dinner, I ordered medium NY steak and mashed potatoes while my husband and dad ordered pasta dishes. I had to cut the first few bites of steak with my butter knife- it was more on the rare side and hard to cut with the knife. The hostess walked busy with another guest and I asked her for a steak knife and she came back with more silverware. Before she left I asked if it there was a knife in there and she laughed and said oh you wanted it for your steak. Whoops, I'll be right back. After I was able to get a couple bites in I realized my steak was pretty much flavorless. I asked for salt and pepper when our waitress came back. My water was empty as was dads tea and my husband wanted another beer but didn't want to wait 10 minutes so asked for it to be quicker this time. All items were delivered quickly this time- except a refill on the tea- that was never offered. The other tables near us were not being taken care of either and our waitress was being 'coached' by guests at each table within earshot of me. She needed help or less tables or something- maybe it was just an off night? We were impressed....from the greeters to table side host. Restaurant decor is modern with a relaxed feel to it. And it's bonus when the food is both of good quality and quantity..we order the flounder and fried shrimp plate....full of flavor. The only downer for us was one of their small plate items - chicken and sausage cup of gumbo....NOT to my liking, roux was too think and salty; now their Voodoo balls were packed with flavor...we really like those. At that point, we asked for the check. That's when the food was brought to us, 70 minutes later, and the manager said have it anyway as the whole check was comped. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THE RESTAURANT.
