This is mediocre university slop wearing a fake tuxedo. I'll give them some credit for the food being generally edible and even having a decent flavor (despite the mushy buffet texture), and I guess the atmosphere is fine. The waitstaff seemed very confused by us wanting hot tea. However, I had a very upset stomach within 2 hours. Not quite a "1-star" horrific stomach, but it was unpleasant enough, and the food bad enough, that I will avoid returning. read more

I've checked out this room several times in passing, since I've started my job as an Alumni Counselor and have a majority of my students at IU. Finally, during my spring trip to see my alumni, I had a chance to stop in for lunch, and treat one of them to lunch as well. It was a pleasant experience! Once we sat down we were greeted and our drink orders. Then we checked out the buffet, and for a buffet, it is pretty tasty! I had a salad, polenta, pasta, and some chicken (I didn't have breakfast, please don't judge) and I loved that they had tiny desserts, cheese cakes, and other tasty treats! I enjoyed myself, so did my IU student, I hope I had the opportunity to treat more of my students to a meal here during their time as IU students. read more

Have enjoyed the Sunday brunch at the Tudor Room since the 1980s. If you are in Bloomington it's well worth the visit.

Tudor Room demise following Basetball program. Attended Sunday brunch. The staff was very nice, but it looked like the entire buffet had been set up before opening and had been sitting in the chafing dishes all day. No fresh eggs, they used a carton mix. Eggs were so overcooked that they looked like a loaf of bread. Beef had clearly been cooked in the chafing dish all day and was drier than beef jerky. Odd way to set up a buffet when they only had people at three tables in the entire place, and they must have had no reservations on spring break. Why would you overcook and waste so much food? Lots of nice memories of the Tudor Room, but this is not one of them. It was a disaster. read more

I've been here twice now - once for brunch and once for lunch. It's incredibly affordable and for "school catering," it's pretty good. Fantastic value too as there's a student rate. I highly recommend the brunch as there was prime rib and an omelette station! A prime rib buffet for less than $15 (for students)? You can't beat those prices ANYWHERE. I also like that you can make reservations here, unlike a lot of nicer places in town. The Tudor Room is also a great place to take family/visitors. We had lunch here during my visit. Very healthy and fresh...I tried most of the veggie dishes and the beef cabbage roll (bottom left of photo). So sad writing this review. The Tudor room used to set the standard in Bloomington for great hospitality. However it's clear that everything has changed. We had Mother's Day brunch here and were disappointed in the quality of the food (which was one step above cafeteria) along with the lack of attention to detail. There weren't tongs or spoons for certain dishes and i watched people resort to using their fingers, the gravy was before the biscuits, the deserts were reminiscent of a Wednesday night church dinner, and the shrimp were floating in a pool of mostly melted ice. To top it off service was slow and often disappearing. Our server only acknowledged one person at the table and everyone had to order their drinks through that one person to relay to her. Upon finishing our meal, our server was no where to be found. After awhile we finally got our server and our check. After running our cards, she stood over us tapping her foot watching us fill in the tip section. We felt extremely uncomfortable. For someone who grew up going to the Tudor room i was so disappointed that this was the Mother's Day experience we had. By the way if you're going to charge $55 pp for this kind of experience it better come with at least one mimosa. The Tudor Room at the Indiana Memorial Union on the Indiana University Campus is exactly what dining at a college campus should feel like. It's like dining in Harry Potter's world without the magic stuff in the room. The food is good, but not great, and consists of a buffet that changes daily. You can check the menu online to be sure you like the day's various items. Sunday brunch is the go-to meal, with a wide variety of entrees, egg, waffle and carving stations, etc. It's a terrific atmosphere for a leisurly Sunday brunch. NOTE: During the holidays it's best to check the website as they sometimes close during campus closings. As to the atmosphere, it truly is a beautiful space. Located in the IMU (one of the largest college student unions in the world) it has interior limestone and wood beams, high ceilings, tapestries, antiques and various decor that just make it feel 'regal' and almost like an ancient church or castle. Again, Hogwarts without the ghosts and other things that won't be named. Enjoy a meal at the Tudor Room when you're visiting. If you had a kid getting ready to choose between IU (the right choice) or somewhere else, bring them here. It might push them over to the best decision of their life! read more

Over the years we have enjoyed Sunday brunch at the Tudor Room, but our recent visits there have left us hesitant to return. While the food remains "above average", the service has become dreadful. We arrived at the time of reservation only to find the room was still being set up from a wedding reception the night before. NO ONE spoke to us or greeted us. The dismissive service continued when we finally got to our table. The servers were indifferent to us and all others in the dining room. Getting a second cup of coffee was an absolute chore. There was no assistance at the buffet lines, waffle machine, etc. All of the servers seemed to gather at the host station and chat, but none were wanting to assist guests. Our table was not the only one being ignored. Upon leaving, my server said that I could just "leave him cash" for the tip, which I declined to do. I called the next day to vocalize my concerns - I was forced to leave a voice mail and no one has called me back. My desire is to see the Tudor Room improve to what it was once - I am skeptical if anyone working there is interested in doing so. read more

I have wanted to dine here since I was a student many years ago. Sadly, it did not live up to my expectations. We called shortly after opening and were told that we could come in whenever we wanted. We parked in the main lot of the Union, and walked over to the Tudor Room. We checked in with the host and were promptly shown to a table. The room is very grand and I love the school department banners and glass inlays at the front of the room. There was a pianist during our meal, and that was a nice touch as well. The downside was with some of the staff and some of the food. Our waitress was very young, and uniformed about the buffet. She asked if we had been there before and when we said "No" she said, "Well, it's a buffet." She brought us cold coffee and then only came back once more before the end of our meal. She also didn't know what they served for beverages and I found that quite odd, since she was to serve them. The food was hit or miss. Some of the food in the chafing dishes was really cold and unappetizing. The biscuits for the biscuits and gravy were hard as rocks. This was really a shame because the gravy was actually quite good. On the other hand, the omelette station had a great chef, and he was super friendly and actually knew how to make an omelette! I'm glad we came here once, but that'll probably be it for us. read more

IMU - Tudor Room - Bloomington, Indiana ... 4 stars: If you have someone at Indiana University, you'll eventually be touring through the Bloomington restaurants and at some point have brunch at the landmark Tudor Room in the Indiana Memorial Union. This little restaurant is located in the Union smack dab between the Biddle Hotel and the bookshop, both of which reside in the same building. Serving lunch buffet daily and a special Sunday brunch, this place shines. Students usually bring their parents here when they visit and you can see why. It is an old high-ceilinged room with huge windows letting in the light and allowing wonderful views of the grounds. And the food isn't bad either. Students often come for the lunch buffet during the week but the Sunday brunch buffet is pretty famous - meaning you should probably have reservations ... especially on the busy days like Freshman Weekend, Parents Weekend, all football games, etc. Most of the seating and serving and busing is down by IU students, and while it can be spotty every once in a while it is usually chipper and friendly. Very clean place. Standard fare offered for the grand Sunday brunch buffet - eggs, breakfast meats, seasonal fruit, potatoes, breads, assorted Danish, usually some beef being carved, numerous other dishes - and it is very nice food. Good quality and presentation...they even have a made-to-order omelet station and a do-it-yourself waffle machine. This is a wonderful Sunday brunch...make sure to give it a try. read more

We decided to come here for Mother's Day as they were having a special brunch a $28 special brunch which included either tea lemonade or coffee we haven't been here in a couple of years as before the service was horrible and the food was much to be desired unfortunately that still has not changed the only thing that did change that did the dessert table and added a chocolate fountain I appreciate it. their food had very little flavor,the bacon was super flimsy not even close to crisp and being in Indiana we love our bacon crispy. also only had one kind of salad dressing. most people do not just eat vinegar and oil,that's all they had as an option.I don't think I will drive another hour to eat here again hopefully the next four years they can find some students that can actually cook and hopefully it won't be $28. Also your waitors were not very friendly and asking them for more lemonade appeared to be a bother. One last thing, they rushed to get our bill to us, had to run card including tip before hand, we were told it was over at 4, by 315 were were being told the buffet had ended. read more

We have been loyal Tudor Room brunch patrons after every IU home football game for nearly 17 years and this year decided to hold off before trying it with the change in food services. Over the years the food and experience hasn't been an formal or elegant as it once was but this year seemed to make several changes that brought it down more. There used to be a made to order omelette station as well as carving station and both were removed to make more room for tables. The omelettes can still be ordered from the kitchen at least. The food and service overall are now average and many additional food options have been paired down such as the cold food buffet. I think the Tudor Room is still a great option for families on campus or those staying at the Indiana Memorial Union but we won't be keeping it as a Sunday family tradition any more. read more

Had a group of eight out of town guests for brunch on Sunday. Where to go? Uptown Cafe does NOT take brunch reservations and we did not want to wait. Lucky for us, the Tudor Room does take reservations. So glad we finally took the plunge and decided to try this B-town landmark. Service was excellent! From the hostess to the server to the cashier who validated our parking. Our server, Mary Emma, was knowledgeable and helpful in every way. She even took photos of our group for us. The food was better than expected. A large variety of warm dishes, eggs, bacon, hash browns, chicken and fish. Plenty of vegetables too. Nice salad bar options. The prime rib and make-your-own omelet station was a hit too. The desserts were delicious and there was plenty of fruit for dessert also. The ambiance of the room is pretty incredible. High ceilings, huge windows, chandeliers, tapestries. Definitely like brunch at the great hall at Hogwarts. All drinks are included with brunch, except for alcohol which they can provide but it will cost you extra. The pianist, Yelena, is absolutely wonderful and the music really adds to the overall experience. Free parking at the Union if you get your ticket validated by the cashier in the Tudor Room. Cannot wait to return with friends. This will definitely be our go-to place for brunch when we have friends in from out of town. read more

I first went to the Tudor Room lunch buffet when I came to campus for an interview back in late 2008. Some kid recommended it to me when I was on the airport shuttle riding to Bloomington for Indy. If you go after 1 pm, you can get a student discount for the buffet. The buffet includes either tea or orange juice, a great salad bar, soups, main courses, side dishes and so many tasty desserts. I was so impressed with this place, that I've recommended it to whoever would listen to me. It's a weekly tradition for a group of us to go there, eat some great food and sit around having life discussions. I love Indiana University for many reasons and the Tudor Room is very close to the top of that list! read more

The Tudor room has been a fav of ours for special occasions for many years. Today was one of them and so we came. It was a busy Sunday brunch so there was a short wait - and we expected that. However the rest of the visit was disappointing. There were no dairy free options on the buffet. I chose not to eat because of that. When I let the cashier know, he asked if I had checked the salad bar. For $19.95 I am not going to be satisfied with only being able to eat from the salad bar. Granted prime rib was an option but I don't care for that. It was the only item off the salad bar I would be able to eat. I had asked prior to choosing not to eat if I would be able to request an order of scrambled eggs. I posted a picture of what I was given. The others in my group said food was cold, no knives were provided with silverware and no salt and pepper on the tables. All of these items had to be requested. This visit was a huge let down. We only paid for the ambiance here - NOT the food. That has never been the case. We will likely not be back. read more

I would probably have Tudor Room Sunday brunch every week of the year if it were possible. There are so many possibilities to choose from (lunch pastas, fish, chicken, salad and breakfast waffles, French toast, warm syrup, bread, fruit. They even have a dessert bar!) as well as a wide variety of drinks. Not to mention a wonderful atmosphere accompanied by live piano music. Students get a small discount compared to regular prices (about $13 I think). The menu also varies week to week and you can check it online. Lots of people go though and they have limited seating due to time so I would reserve a table ahead of time just in case! A great date place or for an intimate group of friends :) read more

Just headed over here for the post 1pm weekday lunch buffet. Starting off for $8, it's not bad. If I paid more, yikes. Walking in to the Tudor Room you get the vibe of walking into a Victorian setting where many famous Indiana University alums must have had fancy soirees. Dining in such a fancy pants place is almost worth the $8 itself. Considering the food is only a notch above the Old Country Buffet, the environment is what makes it worth it. The food is pretty standard fare, a pork, chicken and some vegetables. It will probably have some sort of gravy with sage and seem fancier than it really is. (This is a buffet after all) There is a salad bar with all the usual suspects, plus a pasta salad selection. Nothing was worth noting. The best part of the buffet is the dessert selection: brownies, chocolate cake, banana creme cake, chocolate creme cake, carrot cake and more. Pair your cake with some coffee and it makes for a nice conclusion to your lunch. Overall, not bad for the price. You're paying for the ambiance and in my opinion, if you pay more than the post 1pm price, you've paid too much. read more

First time visitor despite having gone to IU for seven years in total. Went for Sunday brunch which was $18/person. The place was busy and seemed quite chaotic. The server asked for our drink order (two diet cokes and a chocolate milk) and several minutes later the diet cokes came and I was told my hot chocolate would be a few more minutes (I didn't even order the chocolate milk) - when I said the other person actually ordered a chocolate milk I was told yes, it would be a few minutes more. Then we had a fourth person arrive who ordered orange juice from her when she brought the chocolate milk. The OJ never arrived. I had to ask for refills on diet coke (which came one at a time because she didn't realize I was "changing" my drink order to a diet coke.....sigh). So service was underwhelming but it was busy, so onto the food. Three things: 1) biscuits and gravy (but pepper gravy aka country fried steak gravy not sausage gravy - we are in Indiana here - no sausage gravy???), 2) eggs, don't like eggs Benedict? Then they have one person making omelets and scrambles for the entire place, so get your wait on. 3) French toast was somehow cooked on one half and then put (what appeared to be raw half up) into the warming containers (which is the highest temperature of all the food except made to order eggs.... Ambiance is very nice as far as interior but chaotic service diminished it. Do check out what appears to be a Slytherin flag hanging in there though!! read more

How the mighty have fallen. We've been going to the Tudor Room for almost 20 years, and in the past, it's been synonymous with quality food and great atmosphere. The atmosphere hasn't changed, but the standards have fallen drastically. Today was a barbecue buffet, which was tempting. But when we got there--ten minutes after they opened--every item on the line was room temperature. The manager's reply: it's up to Health Department standards of acceptability. If I worked for the Health Department, that would be very comforting. As a person who enjoys hot meals, it failed to impress. They need to stop resting on their laurels and work harder. Check the negative reviews on Yelp, and see how many of them include the words "cold food." As Gordon Ramsay would say, "Damn, what a shame." And though I didn't utter any F-words in this restaurant, I didn't agree to pay for dinner. read more

They will make made to order omelettes sometimes the chafing dishes food is a little dry. The coffee is tasty they have a pianist playing which makes for a pleasant experience. I went with a group of 5 to the Thanksgiving Buffet last week. We were greeted warmly and giving a choice of tables. It was such a wonderful experience: coffee station where you can add white chocolate flakes to your drink; delicious prime rib and turkey carved to order; the best bread pudding ever; fresh shrimp; breakfast items; and a favorite vegetable, brussel sprouts, in a gorgonzola sauce. I have been a regular diner at Tudor Room for at least 5 years (about 2 visits a month on average). The food selection and quality could vary a lot from day to day, so definitely check their online menu before you go (http://imu.indiana.edu/dining/tudor/tudorroommenuweekly2013_out.php). From my experience, most of the chicken and pork entrees tend to be very dry. There were only a couple of times that I had real juicy chicken there. Beef and seafood, on the other hand, are usually fine. (But don't ever try their fried fish, which is very soggy.) The salad and soup bar are good, but again, it also depends what they have for the day. Desserts are usually toooooo sweet for me. read more

The food is standard institutional food-service fare, but presented on proper plates rather than cafeteria trays. It's something to see if you're in the area, but don't go out of your way. read more
