Probably the best Indian restaurant in town. Ocean is the second best (and then India Garden) but I heard about their recent health scare so keeping away from that. Anyway, the servers here are polite, nice, quick and willing to help recommend menu items. The service is quick. Pricing is reasonable. They don't intimidate you to tip which is refreshing, I've noticed that all the Indian restaurants in town are like that (unlike Taste of India). Restaurant is in downtown so amazing location/many windows. Their samosa, and chole bhature are delicious! read more

Party of four. Saturday night after NK. Place was packed with a line, but we arrived at the last table for four. We expected medium chaos, and were happily surprised. Orders were mainstream, Malai Kofta, Mushroom Saag, Butter Chicken and Chicken Tikka. A side order of vegetable pakora was really good. The Malai Kofta, usually a brown curry with kofta balls, was instead, an orange curry; my partner said it was fine, if different than most we've tried. My Mushroom Saag was five stars. The other diners like their offerings. Food came quickly, an amazing feat given the sheer traffic and line waiting. And there came the only rub. They were a bit insistent about getting our plates and flipping our table. Didn't feel good. No, we weren't dawdling, just getting rushed. Bad idea, and cost them a star. We're happy they've improved from our prior experiences. They were once our go-to Indian Food in Bloomington, then fell from grace. They're improving. They need to take a chill pill, however. Grace under pressure is a desirable skill. read more

I was very happy with my dinner at Amrit. I ordered the special Punjabi kadhi (onion pakoras in yogurt-based gravy) and Kashmiri naan (stuffed with coconut and dry fruits). The kadhi was flavourful and rich but not heavy or oily. I ordered it medium-hot and the spice level was just what I wanted. The naan also came out just right with a thick layer of delicious coconut-based stuffing inside. Portions are pretty generous. For me, it wasn't quite enough to split into two meals, but I was very full when I finished. Less than $20 before tip. I was there on a Monday, early evening, and was seated right away. The restaurant was moderately busy but not loud. Nice classy but comfortable atmosphere. This was right when school started at IU. My server was very polite. Another highlight is that it seems very vegan friendly, with a number of clearly labelled vegan dishes on the menu. read more

Above-standard Indian food, and noticeably better than 4th st. Saag paneer was a particular highlight, with some of the best paneer I've had in terms of bite and flavor. Curries and garlic naan were as one expects from most Indian restaurants, prepared well but nothing unusual. read more

Still the best Indian food in Bloomington by a quarter mile. Everything you could possibly think of being a factor for a restaurant is knocked out of the park by Amrit. It's good takeout but dining in is where the magic is, I promise you cannot go wrong with anything on the menu. read more

Good was mid for how many good Indian food places are in the area. Bathroom was rough! Price was more the other local joints. I would recommend going to a different establishment unless this is your only choice. It's just ok. Service was attentive for the most part I did need to get their attention for a refill read more

Amrit has a great lunch menu deal. You get two items with naan, rice, and dessert for $12. The food is very tasty and you get a good amount! Highly recommend trying this spot if you are in the mood for good Indian food. read more

Super excited to try some vegan choices & Indian Chai on the menu! Lots of parking, welcoming server & chill ambiance right on the square. First impression is the lemon rice does not taste lemony enough for me lol however I do love lemon! The chai was a little too mellow for me so I added some extra cinnamon & spice when I got home. The garlic naan is soft and yummy. I got the lentil stew that had been cooked in a tandoori oven for 24 hours & rice and it was delicious. Even better if you added it to the lemon rice with some fresh and bright cilantro. read more

My favorite Indian food in all of Bloomington! There are so many fantastic vegan options.. my favorite being the saag cholay. It's flavorful, the perfect amount of heat, and fantastic with both tandoori Naan and rice. I've been ordering it a few times a week, I just can't get enough. Additionally, the owner is just so friendly and kind. I just love this place! read more

Very good service! Constant attention but not overwhelming, amazing food, large portions, reasonable prices. Overall great experience!

Excellent authentic food. Friendly staff and they remember your order, I've never had an issue with wrong food with takeout. They have booths and some bollywood videos playing on TVs on the walls. The spiceyness is serious, only get 6 if you're brave! One of my favorite spots in all of B-Town. Would recommend the Chicken Saag. read more

Fantastic service-I swear I took a drink and the a server was refilling my water each time, in a very subtle way. Food was outstanding and quite large portions. Extremely delicious! I had the shrimp Biryani, portions were large enough for two meals. My husband ordered the lamb chili, level 6-his was super hot (as he wished) and great too. We were served in a timely manner, everyone was kind and polite. Will definitely go back! read more

This is our favorite Indian in Bloomington - it's fresh, and authentic! At times the service can be slow because they don't always have a lot of employees. But they are always super nice about it and helpful. The restaurant is in a really nice location, right on the downtown square with street parking. It's a nice sit down experience. We love to grab lunch and walk around the square after. read more

A nice stop for lunch. I ordered the Hyderabadi chicken biryani, and it was wonderful - everything that I expected. And the spice levels were proper, definitely on the spicier side. Whichever one i picked came out one tiny notch spicier than what I wanted, which was perfect for a cold day. Great flavors and portions. read more

Let's start by saying: When and if they allow seating the food is good. Secondly: This review is about the service and experience I had about the take out order service. The call in orders are absolutely terrible. I called in to order my food because I was hungry obviously. I get to the restaurant they have no order of mine ready. I showed the number that I called, and they did say anything. I said okay no worries I'll order agin. I paid 20$ for my reorder in store. I waited 40 minutes for my food to be ready. It was sitting on the to go rack behind the counter for 15 minutes, the order was not complete( no garlic naan), and the rice was thrown in the bag. Last, but not least they yelled at a customer asking about his order being ready online. This is not how you treat people. So save your money and do not order in. read more

AMAZING food and the service was unmatched! We were seated and served very quickly, but beyond that the waitstaff was great at asking how we were enjoying our food and ensuring our water was filled, and simply thoughtful. We also found our food to be yummy, the portions were generous, and prices extremely fair. read more

Amrit India is the counterpart to Taste of India in Bloomington. Same owners and similar menu however per their words, Amrit is more authentic Indian while taste has more Americanized flavors with sweeter ingredients. The food is great and rich in flavor. I've had many of the curries (both chicken and lamb) and the tandoori options. Spice levels are intense so I wouldn't recommend ordering over a 4 unless you like burning your face off. If you get a curry, you have to order one of the naans on the side, I recommend garlic naan. If you don't, you're compromising your eating experience. The decor is nothing to write home about but service is consistent and reliable. Food never takes more than 15 minutes to come out. Highly recommend read more

Amrit India Restaurant - Tandoori 98. Mixed Grill - Indian Near Me - Bloomington, Indiana

Driven by this place a million times and have never tried it, was craving some good ethnic food but have done everything on 4th street so many times so I was looking for another option and stumbled on their menu - they by far have the most vegetarian options I've ever seen, far more than the other 2 main Indian places in town, and the only place that has two different crispy cauliflower dishes (no one else has this), AND they had a ton more naan options (most only have garlic and regular, Amrit had like 5 different stuffed naan options and an amazing green chili spicy naan that was amazing)! Everything we ordered was amazing, the specialty naan, the veggie dishes, the cauliflower, it was all delicious and really well priced, definitely my new go to Indian food spot in town, will be back asap! read more

I'm usually skeptical about getting food delivered because restaurants don't hesitate to forget something or give you a really small portion. I was thoroughly impressed with Amrit's quality assurance of my order and the flavor was delectable. Everything tasted amazing and hot and fresh, I don't doubt that dining-in service would be just as good. I wasn't a huge Indian food fan before but I would have to visit Amrit India every time I'm in Bloomington from now on! read more

Delicious food! Wonderful service! A lovely ambiance. Delicious appetizers, breads, and entrees. Polite professional service. And it won my husband over to Indian food--he keeps suggesting going there, actually! (Even though Indian food varies a lot, even in the US, he had set ideas that other experiences hadn't changed, until we tried Amrit for the first time.) read more

My go to Indian delivery on a Friday night! I always get multiple meals out of my order and always for less than $25. Highly recommend if you are in Bloomington. Food was quite tasty in-person. I had tried takeout before and it wasn't as interesting. Feedback: waiter should be more proactive at removing dirty plates, bringing fresh napkins, coming by to get order once I've looked at the menu for a while, and bringing check once done. I found that I had to work hard to get the waiter's attention for every step of the process. read more

I still love Amrit, but I have to knock down a star for a very specific reason. We have been regulars here for years, and have referred so many people to this restaurant. Recently we came in for the buffet, and were turned away because they would be closing in 20 minutes. We were only stopping in for a quick lunch, so the timing was perfect and we would have been in and out. We explained this to no avail, and were told we could order carry out, but absolutely could not sit down. There was not a single customer in sight, so I would have thought our business would have been welcomed. Honestly this kind of refusal from any other place would have made us never go back. If you say you are open until 3, then you're open until 3, not 2:40. It would have also caused me to leave a much more scathing review with much less stars. But because we have loved this place for a long time, we will probably go back someday... reluctantly. read more

I ordered takeout food using yelp from this location. There are a lot of one-way streets around this area and finding parking on the street can be a problem. There is a public parking lot nearby that cost about $6 to use. The restaurant itself is a small hole in the wall that is a little bit grubby. There was a lunch buffet going on when I came to pick up togo order. They were busy and running behind as they only had one server. The carryout order ran about 15 minutes behind schedule. The server was extremely kind and offered water and a place to sit while I waited. The food was well packaged for carryout and smelled delicious. I ordered the lamb curry, goat curry, mango lasse and samosa chatte. Everything was absolutely delicious. I ordered the curries with a regular amount of spicy and it was perfect. The samosa chatte was delicious. The mango lasse was not as sweet compared to other indian restaurants. It had a sour kick to it which gave it additional depth. read more

Taking off three stars for complete unprofessional behavior which is inexcusable. For my usual Indian food fix, I ordered through Uber eats and selected it to be picked up. Got a notification food was ready and headed out. When I arrive, I went to the manager at the counter who said my order is not there and perhaps an Uber driver took it. He stared at me and thought I would just accept it and walk away without my food? Then I said "wait, isn't my order for pick up and I'm not leaving without my food". He goes on ranting that the drivers are terrible and don't double check etc. I was not really having any of it and asked again if he was going to remake it. He then replied that he would lose money if he did. Really? I would leave the readers to determine how to react or interpret this. Anyways long story short, my friend came in and insisted they remade the order sternly and after some to and fro, a lady joins the conversation and tries to add fuel to the fire, as things got a little louder and there were customers in the store, they agreed to remake it. Next moment, we hear shouting in the kitchen. But our food made it out 20 mins later. What complete unprofessionalism and poor service. These people seem like con artist. I am really upset as I actually do like their food. Did they really think I'd pay for take out and accept their BS that someone randomly took my food and it was my problem? read more

Update: We gave Amrit India another chance as it was parents weekend and all the other restaurants that serve vegetarian food had lines out the door. What an improvement! Service was gracious and efficient even though the restaurant was very busy and all the tables were full. Our dinner, Chana masala and Briyani, was delicious. The cleanliness issues I mentioned in my previous review appear to have been fixed. Even better, the restaurant now serves beer! Previous review: I've eaten at Amrit India several times and always leave underwhelmed but at this last visit I was put off by dirty glasses (my husbands had lip marks on it) and dirty plates and silverware. Not only were there water spots but some plates had actual dried crumbs of old food! Service was pleasant but slow. Food was well spiced (you can order levels 1-5 and I ordered 5) and there was a decent variety of vegetarian options. Samosas were delicious. It was difficult to enjoy what we were eating after seeing the dirty plates....made us wonder how clean the rest of the kitchen was. read more

Immediately when I walked in the restaurant, the guy at the front was very rude. When I ordered, I asked if the entrees come with naan bread and he said "read the f-ing menu." Spoke to a girl next to me and she was also ordering carry out, and she said she had already been waiting 40 minutes for her food! I almost want to just walk out I'm disgusted by the service of this place. read more

Finally figured it out. For the life of me I couldn't understand why some people rated this place 5 stars, and others 1. They have different cooks during the week and weekend. During the weekend I ordered the Korma, garlic Mann, and rice. So so good. Full of flavor and very creamy. On Monday, ordered the exact same meal, no flavor at all, and I mean the naan tastes like baking powder and the rice was so lackluster. Plus the Korma was all heat and no spice, the texture was runny and the ingredients were lacking. So 3 stars down the middle. read more
