I thought it was really good! You might not expect it from the outside, but the interior of the restaurant is pretty classy. I was there for dinner on a weeknight, and while there were a few takeout/delivery orders that came through, I was the only dine-in customer, and the man who served me was extremely courteous. I ordered their vegetable malai kofta, plain naan, and Indian tea. I'm pretty sure what I was kadhi kofta instead of malai kofta; the gravy tasted like tangy savoury kadhi rather than creamy malai gravy. I'm not upset about the mistake because this is actually what I would've ordered, but I didn't see it on the paper menu. Anyway, the dish was very flavourful and the medium hot was actually medium hot - no watered down spice level here! Good naan, soft and charred in the right places. The food was reasonably priced and portioned generously. Cumin rice was included with the entree. The Indian tea (chai) was strong, and I felt like the tea itself was actually of good quality, but it was served sweetened and it was too sweet for me. I prefer chai unsweetened but don't mind some tasteful sweetness, but theirs was really strong. It was also pretty small, almost cutting chai size, and didn't come out until I was almost done eating. The tea wasn't expensive, but not so inexpensive that I was expecting it to be so small. Definitely would visit again. The hours are a little weird - they open at 2:30 pm and close between 1 am-2:30 am depending on the night. It would be nice if they were open at normal lunch time, but on the bright side, they're open during the mid-afternoon window when most restaurants close between lunch and dinner and stay open late when most everything else still open is fast food. read more

My 1st delivery order from this Restaurant was bad, because the food was burnt, and the delivery person stood outside my door, talking on his cellphone. My 2nd delivery order was very good. Food was good. Went here near/after midnight on two occasions, and the main worker there was nice and accommodated us, even though we were the only customers. For appetizers, we got samosa, chicken pakora, veg pakora, and seesh kebab (lamb). Seesh kebab was a must have. Samosa and veg pakora are both definitely recommended as well. I got the Tandoori Chicken the first time and lamb curry with naan the second time, both at spice level 4. Both dishes were well made and had a kick as well. The lamb curry had a strong tomato flavor, but was good and went well with the naan. Prices were average for an Indian restaurant, generally between $10-20. read more

If you want some late night Indian eats, this is your spot. Everything is consistent and I mean, it's Indian food, so it'll be good. Their service is sometimes slow but they're always friendly, the owner is a super fun guy to talk to. I have to give it 3 due to the price hike, I know inflation is a thing but the prices still got raised pretty high. Also has had some health code problems in the past and sometimes the buffet is super cold. Just moved to Bloomington after living in Miami and Boston. Not sure about the bad reviews, but this place was great. Extra spicy butter chicken was incredible, and actually extra spicy! We went around midnight and the woman who served us also was doing the cooking. I can't say anything about the other cooks, but she said she cooks every night from 11:30-2:30am and if she's making the food, it's gonna be good. Since their competition has fallen from grace, we tried India Garden again and were pleasantly surprised. They have a good variety in many areas. Tried their malai kofta and palak paneer-- both great and spiced correctly. The garlic naan, IMHO, is better than the competition, but it's a slightly different if flavorful style. We were the only ones there, but it was rainy on a Sunday. And on this Sunday in June, the AC was on high, chilling the place to a remarkable 60F, and so if you're from Minnesota or visiting from the Yukon, you'll appreciate feeling like home. India Garden has the best Indian food I've ever had. I've had Indian food in San Francisco, Portland, OR, NYC -- all sorts of big cities, but, Bloomington's India Garden is my favorite! Not only do they have delicious buttery naan, but, they also have a gluten-free bread with lentils that is super delicious and that my partner, who eats gluten-free, loves! Our menu favorites are the Butter Chicken (creamy and delicious), and the Palek Paneer -- gently spicy and great actually mixed together! I know, it's nutty. But, we love it! They always send more than enough basmati rice, and a cup of complimentary spicy soup. Last time, we ordered the rice pudding which was more liquid than rice and spiced with something that was like mint. It was really good! I can't say enough good things about India Garden and I look forward to trying all their entrees! read more

I love the food at India Garden! This past time I ordered it to be delivered from DoorDash and it was just as good! I got the chicken tikka masala, which had a great flavor. The only reason I have 4 instead of 5 stars is it definitely runs on the spicy side. I had requested a 2 on their spice scale, and received a 3. It was nearly too spicy to eat, I had to add some milk into it in order to dull the heat a little bit, but it was still delicious! You get a great quantity for the price and it is definitely great for if you need some comfort food! I also ordered the vegetable samosas, which were HANDS DOWN better than any other Indian restaurant in Bloomington. They had a delicious flavor and were packed with potatoes and veggies. They were very crunchy and fresh and the chutney that comes with them is fantastic! If you go to India Garden I HIGHLY recommend trying the samosas!! read more

My boyfriend and I moved here about a month ago. he is originally from India so when we moved here, we went to Taste of India instantly for a birthday celebration. We moved from Cincinnati and I thought taste of India was the best Indian food I've had in years. Getting back to the point, we drove by Indian Garden so we decided to have a takeout order of it tonight. The food came fresh and hot past their closing time and they stayed open to make sure that we got our order. the butter and garlic naan was great quality and very flavorful. What drove me to write this review is the lack and flavor of the curry. My boyfriend and I got separate lamb dishes and we both agreed that something was missing. We both got medium. Mine was a perfect medium spice however, my boyfriend said his was very tangy and sweet. he quoted " it wasn't their traditional yogurt, lamb curry he was looking for" to sum it up, this place is flavorful, and it wasn't unenjoyable, it just wasn't the taste that we were hoping for. Possibly in the near future, we will go in person and have dinner to check out the atmosphere and give it another try. For now, it is not our first choice. read more

This is by far my favorite Indian restaurant in Bloomington (which is saying a lot because there are so many!) The restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful complete with intricate stone work and a relaxing spring fountain. I love eating here for lunch because the pleasing ambiance takes any stress out of my day. They also have the best lunch buffet deals in town. India Garden also serves gourmet Indian cuisine, including the best chicken tikka masala in town. A rich blend of cream, tomatoes, and savory spices honestly puts me in a good mood the rest of the day. The staff is wonderful and this restaurant is purely good vibes. I know this review sounds dramatic but I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. As I am graduating this spring I will miss eating here so much next year! read more

My boyfriend and I made it a goal to try all the Indian restaurants in Btown. So far we've only been here and Taste of India's buffet. However, we can to Indian Garden during dinner hours. We loved it! We were more impressed with their dinner than the other buffet we went to but that isn't a true comparison. We got the chicken banyuri (probably didn't spell that right) with level 3 heat and chicken chili with level 4 spicy. My boyfriend loved the level 4 but it was a bit too spicy for me, but I still really liked the flavor. Especially with Naan. The chicken banyuri has spices in it that were hard to see so I couldn't pick them out. They were a bit too much to eat. Overall, food was great. Indian tea, yogurts, different breads in addition to naan, various rices, as well as several meat and veggie entrees. It's not cold, and they keep it refreshed often. My favorite though? The gulab jamun. A ball of pure, unadulterated, (heart-attack-ridden) syrup. This desert oozes sugar and carbs. Dense yet soft. A desert that I can't stop eating. I also love the space. Two years ago this building used to be Square Donuts. Open late with a drive up window. Now it's a small shop perfect for Valentine's Day. Yes, I went here on Valentine's Day. The tablecloths, glasses, large, sweeping windows, and low ceilings make me feel super connected to my dinner date. Rarely crowded. But limited seating. Came here a few days ago as I was craving some Indian food. Walking in this was a cozy warm place and since there wasn't many people there we were promptly seated. During my time I ordered the goat rogan josh and some plain naan. This dish came with a side of rice but my favorite side is always naan! The curry itself was okay but felt that the flavors were not as tasty as should be. The meat was also very chewy and the curry was mostly bones over meat which was not so good. My friend ordered the vegetarian biryani and enjoyed it. He also had the keema naan and enjoyed that as well. Overall okay experience, but could be better. read more

My fave Indian restaurant in Bloomington! The buffet is pretty good. They always have deals on the Hooked app for both the lunch buffet and dinner entrees. Their buffet is great, they have a lot of options. It's not on the spicy side, although the samosas and pakora can be spicier. I love their butter chicken and their garlic naan is fire! Their mango lassi is great too. For some reason their chicken entrees in the evening are made with shredded chicken instead of chunks of chicken which I really dislike. During the lunch buffet chunk chicken is used, so I'm not sure why it's different! The location is close to downtown and there usually is enough parking. During lunch the lot is sometimes full! The food was less than mediocre at best. We ordered Choley Bhature. The two stars is for choley, the bhature tasted days old and as if they were refried, just oil everywhere and crunchy like papad. The onion kulcha tasted like a frozen food item that had been microwaved. The raita we ordered never came, instead we got sweet milk with raisins (a poor version of kheer). We spoke with the staff afterwards and they apologized, so hopefully they understand this and make better food next time! read more

I'm not Indian but I feel like I might have been one in a past life, since I crave the food and must have it once a month at the very least. I'm vegetarian who doesn't eat onion, garlic, and other related spices... or hing, for that matter. Essentially, I follow a Jain diet. This is why Indian restaurants tend to be safe for me. Unfortunately, my husband doesn't really like Indian food so I took the time to go have some by myself for lunch. First, I called in, because it turns out there are no purely vegetarian Indian restaurants in Bloomington. :( I needed to make sure that I could go there and order something. Turns out that although I could not take advantage of their lunch buffet, I could order off the menu. And off I went towards my next lunch! I walked in and told them I was a party of one, but that I would need the menu. The lady looked slightly put off at that (trust me, if I could eat the buffet, I would) but handed me the menu and pointed me to the table in the corner. The tables were set up with wine glasses and silverware complete with fabric napkins. A little on the fancier side. My water went in one of those wine glasses. I was going to sit on the side with my back towards the wall, but it turns out there was an open grate in the floor and when you pull out the chair, one of the legs falls into said grate... so I switched sides. I sat there for a while (maybe close to 4 or even 5 minutes) and no help came. I ended up going up myself and asked them what exactly on the menu they could make without onion or garlic. From then on, I was designated a Main Person who took care of me (the woman who directed me to my table would always tell me to wait and get the other lady, who I assume is the manager). I was told I could have the Saag Paneer or the Paneer Tikka Masala. Both were under my favorites, but I hadn't had Saag Paneer in a while, so I chose that with level 2 (regular) heat. It came with a side of Cumin Basmati Rice. I also ordered a Mango Lassi with it, but was later informed they ran out of lassi so I got the Mango Shake instead (it's essentially Mango blended with milk). The portions were pretty large for $10.95, since the curry/gravy is on the heavier side due to the cream that is added in it. I found it slightly saltier than usual, but that was what my rice was for. I wonder if they make their own paneer or maybe the paneer up here is different - it was softer than what I was used to (similar to firm but unpressed tofu) but as I chewed, I started getting the paneer taste. The heat level was also perfect; not too spicy and it took me at least 5 minutes before my nose felt like it was running (no matter what, as long as something's hot or spicy, my nose will run so it's not a matter of "if", it's a matter of "when"). I ended up ordering some naan (wonderfully soft and slightly crisp on some parts on the bottom, but I saw some puddles of oil/butter on top... I could have done without that) as well since I'm more of a naan/chapati/roti person than a rice person. Plus, I knew I would have leftovers and my husband loves his rice so I needed to leave some rice for him. I asked for a little more to take home but though I was offered/reminded one last time in the end, I never got it. I didn't want to keep pushing so I left it at that. Plus, he could have my naan, I guess. I'm always iffy with sweet Indian drinks and desserts because I find that they tend to be too sweet. However, I did enjoy my shake quite a bit - it wasn't too sweet at all! I'm a bit bummed I didn't get my lassi, though. How can you not have lassi? Conclusion: Food was good and definitely hit the spot. Shake was great. Portions were decent, except for the rice-to-curry/gravy proportion. Sad that they didn't have lassi and that there weren't many options for me, but at least I got my Saag Paneer fix. I didn't really study the buffet selections since I couldn't eat most of it (I saw enough to know that most of it contained meat and the remainder probably had onion/garlic). Why torture myself needlessly? Place was decently sized, well lit, and had a steady stream of customers and it seemed to be fairly clean, other than a rather large fly that designated the corner where my table was as his territory. At least I had a lunch buddy of sorts? Service was fairly good for the most part except for the slow bit at the beginning, but it would have been nice if a little more rice (I didn't need a full serving/bowl) was added to my to-go box. read more

We were staying at the Hyatt Place this weekend and decided to call in for Indian food. Other placed we called asked for crazy 2 hr wait for food to be delivered.India Garden delivered good and delicious in half hr despite of it raining very heavily. All the food we ordered was freshly cooked and very authentic. Chicken Tandoori comes with 3 big leg pcs and sauted onions and peppers. Lamb karahi and Chicken tikka masala was spicy as per our order. Garlic naan and stuffed naan were grilled to perfection. Overall, very very good food. Came here for the lunch buffet, and for the price, it was really good! I also splurged on a mango lassi and some of the thin bread to nom on with some mint dip with but unfortunately I wasn't a huge fan of the dip. They had a great variety of options available and it's definitely a bang for your buck kind of a lunch buffet! Unfortunately general cleanliness was a bit lackluster and although I know things happen, there was a bug in my friend's food. The one restroom was in rough shape. Overall, I'm not knocking the place but I wasn't wowed, either. I would definitely come back for dinner and see how it holds up! Can only comment on buffet and cleanliness. Buffet items pretty much tasted alike, and pakoras tasted of stale oil. Mango colored dessert (a mousse or pudding) tasted like the powder they put on chewing gum to keep it from getting all gloppy and stuck to the wrapper. Carrot halwa (dessert made of slowly cooked carrots with butter, sugar, and spices) was pretty good, and the only thing I would eat again. Restroom smelled of skanky mop water (sewer water?) despite four "deodorizers." The deodorizer by the front door was probably a bad sign. read more

I am in love with this place. I've only ever had it through delivery services because my schedule limits my ability to get downtown, but every time I've gotten food here, it's been hot and ready to eat.
