My husband attempted to keep up with some of the work, but the tree was too tall. And had too many suckers and issues for one person to work on SAFELY. I initally called Kevin; who was polite, to the point and was easy to text. He came to view the job and texted a quote which was very fair, and $200 LESS than the first quote. Kevin and his co-worker got to work and trimmed around our PGE/Phone line with no problem. I had initially asked that he pile the debris in our front yard so we could save a few bucks off his hourly rate. And we'd carry it out to the street for city pick up. Kevin took care of it for us....without charging extra. The job was done CORRECTLY, debris moved to a neat pile (as shown in photo), and the tree looks much better; lighter and needed the thinning badly. And Kevin was polite, professional and we have a job well done. Kevin asked I give him a good review on Nextdoor, but I told him I'd do him one better. I'm the first customer to put him on Yelp. And HIGHLY RECOMMEND this LICENSED CONTRACTOR (License #030882) for your home, rental or business.

They were competitive with their price, very professional, worked quickly but safely and did an amazing job! They cleaned up everything very nicely as well! My neighbors have used them and they did great work on their house as well. They even earned 2 referrals the day they were working at my house from neighbors who admired the work they did. I give A-1 an A+!

We have two elms- one was put in by the city on the parking strip when the houses were first built - maybe 50+ years ago. It had considerable deadwood. The other elm is 20 years old and was hacked back from the power lines at our back property line by a contractor sent by PG&E. Their only concern was getting the branches away from the power lines and the tree's beautiful shape was destroyed. I wanted a professional arborist to work on trrimming the trees because besides enjoying the look of healthy mature trees, I feel they add to the property value. Curt Black lists himself as an arborist, a member of the Ameerican Society of Consulting Arborists and International Society of Arboriculture with a MS in Plant Science and a BS in Horticulture. The day they came out to do the work, at least three people, including the owner, worked on the trees for five hours. When they were done the surrounding area and patio was thoroughly raked and swept clean of any debris and the trees looked great. Considering there was a minimum of 15 man hours involved- a lot of those with a man braced 30 feet in the higher branches of the trees alternating between a chain saw and a pruning stick(?) we figured we paid a fair price for the work involved at just over $100. per man hour. It is a lot of money- but mature trees are beautiful and I figure they add to the value of the property. I can recommend A1 Expert Tree Service.

We hired Bo as the project arborist for a subdivision project in Saratoga based on her extensive…read moreexperience in the city and her familiarity with local staff, as she has completed many arborist reports there. The project is still ongoing, but she became unresponsive partway through. Despite repeated attempts to contact her by email, phone, and text, we received no response. All invoices were paid promptly and in full. As the project progressed, coordination with neighboring properties became more complex, which is common for projects involving trees. Around this time, communication stopped, and we were left without the arborist support we had contracted for. When hiring a consultant for a large, multi-phase project, reliability and follow-through are essential. Based on our experience, this expectation was not met. The screenshot referenced shows my final attempt to reach her on January 29, 2026.

I needed a plan for landscaping to turn the mud into something that would support outdoor enjoyment and be water-wise as well. Bo and another arborist from her company came, made interesting suggestions, and I hired them to create a design. They came up with one within a week. They were very helpful in thinking how to make changes to their plan to meet my budget. Their fee was reasonable, and their willingness to answer questions and help me bring down the cost of plants was wonderful. They recommended several landscaping companies for the execution of their plan, and I chose one. The plants and small patio will go in next week. I would recommend Bo Firestone to anyone looking for people who really know plants, create water-wise designs, and are a joy to work with.

We have an African Sumac in front and a Narrow Leaf Ash in the backyard, both overdue for thinning and shaping. The ash also needed a crown reduction. The crew arrived exactly on time and got set up fast. The African Sumac is a messy, fast growing tree. It gives us valuable summer shade, so I wanted to keep it rather than remove it, but it is high maintenance. It shoots new growth everywhere, drops leaves all season, and its roots threaten the walkway and the lawn. It had also been neglected and pruned poorly by our gardener, which made things worse. The Skylake team removed the unwanted growth, balanced the limbs, and cleaned out the cluttered, crossing branches. The tree finally looks right again. I prefer to support local businesses in Gilroy, and Skylake is part of our community. John has an honest, friendly, straightforward manner, and he quickly earned my trust. Licensed, bonded, certified, and insured, and just genuinely nice people who communicate well. They went the extra mile to make sure I was happy with the results, and I truly appreciate that. I will absolutely hire them again in a few years when the trees need their next round of care.
