The place was rammed on a Friday evening, not sure why they bothered with live music as the musicians were unable to move and had to turn up their amps to 11 in order to make themselves heard. I was glad to be part of a private party in the upstairs bar - excellent views across the beautiful bar hall below. The gin tasting event was accompanied by a selection of snacks - all very tasty, and very welcome considering the strength of the cocktails. I hardly ever go out in this neck of the woods but wouldn't mind returning on a quieter night - if such a thing exists.

This place is buzzing on a Weds night! If you're looking for a bar that has atmosphere and a good crowd midweek then you'll love this gem in the heart of the city. There's a long cocktail list and we chose two each. All of them were delicious, but I have to say the Earl grey martini was a particular highlight and satisfyingly strong. After the madness of the bar, you can escape to a cosy table in the restaurant to soak up the alcohol. From the starters menu, Scotch eggs are a must! I also tried fish and chips and the fish was soft with just the right amount of crispy batter.. The only let down was the fish came with fries and I think chunky chips would have been more suitable.

I've been to the Trading House multiple times, meeting my husband who works around the corner. The name of the pub/restaurant is appropriate considering it is surrounded by banks and traders aplenty. As you walk in, you will notice the high ceilings followed by the many stuffed animals on the walls and over the bar. There is a large rectangular bar which serves cocktails, wine and several beers, including a small selection of craft brews. In the evenings it can get very packed, particularly on a Thursday or Friday. If you want to come at a slightly quieter time, then noon is best, before all the local businessmen show up for lunch. Most recently, I ate lunch there and truly enjoyed the steak and stout pie, which was clearly homemade. Fabulous, fabulous crust and wonderful chips to go along with the gravy and mushy peas. Lush! Definitely a place to go. I would give it five stars if it just didn't get so crowded so very often.

If you're as much of a high-end-cocktail-lover as I am with a taste for the unique & unusual, then…read morethis is easily one of the best places in London to get your fix and snag some totally Instagrammable content while you're at it. While this particular establishment isn't in as fancy an area as the one near Bishopsgate, the interior leaves nothing to be desired; with its posh decor, upbeat music, and chill vibe, I'd say it's one of the nicest places in Shoreditch. The symbolism tends to run a bit rampant throughout everything, but you can't say they're not consistent with the image they're trying to convey. The cocktail menu definitely lives up to its name and offers a multitude of crazy concoctions that will 'wow' both you and your followers, and there are enough of them to please any palate, provided you're not allergic to sweetness. Yes, these babies are some serious sugar bombs. However, given my personal experience, they are mixed to perfection. I just had to try the Color-Changing One, and was surprised when my server brought me an empty glass and two beakers- one with a mysterious blue liquid, and the other with a simple clear liquid. He instructed me to pour the blue one in first, then the clear one. You would think it's super simple, but having to hold your phone in one hand while filming yourself pour with the other is no small feat. So, bring a friend. Unfortunately, Yelp doesn't support the video format I took it in, but let me tell you: It. Was. Awesome. Straight out of a mad scientist's laboratory, the cocktail "smokes" and performs a little dance for you, while changing color and popping out a few "smoke circles" for good measure. Really, it's just liquid nitrogen, and perfectly safe to drink, though you wouldn't know it from the abnormality of it all. A few of the cocktails also come in a hip flask that you get to keep once you're done pouring it. Of these, I highly recommend the Hipflask Colada, which has strong notes of coconut and pineapple mixed with rum. Food-wise, the menu is pretty simple and straightforward, but whilst far from being on the healthy side, it's good enough to be worth what you pay for it. The French Dip Steak Sandwich was a bit too "meh" for me, but the Halloumi Fries were pretty decent. You also have a selection of fried chicken sandwiches, burgers, plenty of fried starters, and some banging desserts. Really, that fifth star has nothing to do with the food; it's all about the drinks. What surprised me a bit was the pricing. Whilst my bill wouldn't be what I call "cheap," it also wasn't as expensive as one would expect given the uniqueness and care that has gone into the drink menu, as well as the snazzy ambiance you're dining in. Overall, this is definitely an experience I wouldn't pass up. If you can, however, try booking the one near Liverpool Street; it's nicer.

The extent of the drink list is mind-blowing, ranging from bubbling potions to color-changing concoctions that make you question if you're at a science fair or a bar. With their big move to London Bridge on the horizon, I decided to splurge on a £120 shot of Louis XIII--because why not live dangerously? Unfortunately, the QR code for it didn't work, which left me staring awkwardly at the menu while my bank account sighed in relief. Thankfully, barman Mateo saved the night with his charm and stellar service. Let's hope the new location keeps the magic flowing and the QR codes functional--there's only so much my wallet can take!

I have been to two different locations, but they were both gorgeous spots, like the look and vibe is top notch. The drinks? Kitschy and weird as hell. Do they taste good though? Live up to the price and the hype? YES. 1000% The drinks are fun and funny and most have some sort of little quirk...color changing, in a weird vessel, tasty sweet garnishes, etc. But they also all taste amazing. Some are a show to watch them being made, some are diy mixed at the table by you. I was brought here the first time by a family friend who lives in London, and when I returned a year and a half later, with our hotel around the corner from an Alchemist, I made ALL my friends on the trip go here on our first night. And we all returned at least once more during our week in the city. Service was good and patient with our large group, food was decent...I simply have had an amazing time every time I have gone to the Alchemist and if there was one in my hometown I would be out of house and home giving them all my money. Highly HIGHLY recommend.

The location is fantastic, the customer service was excellent, and the atmosphere made for a really enjoyable breakfast. I started with a cappuccino and added salted caramel, but honestly, the cappuccino was so good it didn't even need it. It was smooth, rich, and perfectly made on its own. For breakfast, I ordered the Eggs Benedict. They offer two versions: one with pulled beef and one Florentine. As someone from the US who's a bit of an Eggs Benedict snob, I've tried countless versions over the years, and pulled beef just wasn't something I could picture working with it. I went with the Florentine and customized it by adding bacon, avocado, and a side of sausage. One thing I've learned while visiting the UK is that the sausages are much larger than what I'm used to back home! I honestly could have skipped it because it was so filling. The Benedict itself was unique--the base was almost like a buttery croissant instead of a traditional English muffin, and it came with pickled red onions, which was an interesting touch. The poached eggs were cooked perfectly, and I especially enjoyed it with the added bacon. The food was fresh, high quality, and beautifully prepared. There was plenty of seating both inside and outside, but I chose to sit outside and enjoy some people watching, which made for a relaxing start to the day. Overall, a great breakfast spot with delicious food, excellent service, and a wonderful atmosphere. I'd definitely come back.
