we had an early lunch before going to the ballet - just 3 of us. We were greeted warmly by Amanda. At mid day on a Saturday when we arrived there were no customers, but Amanda was so welcoming and helpful and continued to be so the pub filled up and became really busy and buzzy. The food was delicious everything precisely cooked and not too heavy portions. We would have enjoyed ourselves anyway because the food was so good, but Amanda sonehow made it special. I wish I could find such a helpful welcome at many other places! I live out of London, but will return when in that area again. They had a bunch of stuff going against them when we dined here. It was an excessively hot day (and they had no air con) and they had a large party show up 1 hour earlier than expected (so we were prevented from ordering for 30 minutes). We were starved and sweating, so we were not pleased. But what could they do...I suppose. 1 hour and 30 minutes after arriving we finally got our roasts. The roast sirloin was pretty good itself (tender and savory) but the Yorkshire pudding was way overbaked. Such a shame :( But at the least the servers were kind and apologetic. read more

Such a nice pub and restaurant! I've been living very close to it for almost 2 years now but went for the first time only very recently. The restaurant part is not massive but still separated from the pub area so you don't feel in the middle of the pub and the staff is nice and welcoming, our waitress was really friendly and helpful to recommend dishes or explain more about them. We loved the food we had, fresh products, quite a wide choice (it was hard to decide what to have), portion are just the size so you don't feel you've eaten to much, so the food news is you have space for desert (the chocolate fondant was pretty good) It's maybe slightly more expensive than the average pub, but still not over priced. A good idea if you are around Exmouth Market. read more

The Wilmington Arms is great because it boasts a separate music room. There is nothing better than the complete separation of contrasting sounds, i.e., sweet folk music and drunken pub noise. It is not always sweet folk music that occurs in the music room, but it is when the monthly 'Indoor Picnic' folk night is on. Besides keeping noise separation the way it should be, The Wilmington Arms also serves a good quality of beer for a slightly less that standard price. The traditional English pub food is not amazing, but it is also not expensive. I think that the pub is definitely worth a visit, but a visit wouldn't be complete without checking out a gig. read more

The good - location, atmosphere, wine menu, and food menu options The mediocre - I ordered the roast, it was a bit dry. Also ordered a side of the field mushrooms with garlic crumbles - I love garlic, but was not a fan of the garlic crumble, it did not add to the flavors in my opinion. We also ordered the crab salad, which they accommodated putting the dressing on the side. Staff is nice but not that knowledgeable - from answering questions on the menu to knowing how to work their own registers. The bad - this depends who is reading the review...if you have screaming kids? bring 'em - because apparently it is not problem to be screaming your head off in this establishment, you might view this as a positive. Which goes back to atmosphere being very relaxed and not stuffy. I say that coming from a family full of small kids, and have empathy for all parents - but this was even a bit much. I honestly hadn't even noticed it until I noticed other patrons were turning their heads which got me curious and then only noticed a party of 6 adults having a great time and not minding the little one. read more

This pub/restaurant is right across the street from a flat we rented for our London stay, and it was recommended by our landlord for a good English breakfast. We loved it! The Bloody Mary was just as delicious as promised and our breakfast was very, very good. Our server was extremely charming and helpful. The music was great! Popped in here when visiting my friend in London after hearing good things and we were not disappointed....really cosy and relaxed venue for drinks in the bar or an evening meal. We sat in the restaurant which has a slightly more formal feel to it and we were served by a lovely waiter called Gregorie who happily advised us on the specials and his recommendations. Both of us ordered the ox cheek which was soooo tasty and even the chunky chips were divine so couldn't fault it! The chocolate fondant dessert was ok in my opinion but didn't live up to the quality of the main course. Highly recommended for the pub grub and I will definitely return when I'm next in London. read more

My favorite place in the neighborhood. It always has a good vibe in the front bar and the food is really well prepared in the back. They also have some really nice/friendly/quirky waitstaff who make it an adventure every time we go there. I normally go with colleagues and we've ordered all over the menu for both breakfast and dinner. They also have specials every night and everything has been delicious so far. We've gotten everything from the burgers(like little mountains of juiciness on a roll) to a veggie pie with a handmade crust to fishes I've never heard of (but was glad I ordered.) I live in manhattan, so I sometimes need an explanation of ingredients but they're patient in explaining. I spend about two weeks per month in this area on an assignment and try to go there at least once each week. read more

But what sets it aside is that it has a separate room and bar with a stage, where up coming bands can play. It's a bit of a grotty kind of space but the atmosphere was loud and lively. We popped into the pub late on a Friday afternoon; since it was not very late the regular crowd had not arrived. We sat in the slightly grungy space, laughing and having a few drinks. As afternoon began turning into evening the crowd slowly began to pick up. You could tell who the regulars were because they were greeted by the staff. The best part about the pub is that there is a separate space for music and that live bands play. Not a bad idea because it allows people to have a choice in either listening or just talking. Wilmington Arms is an amazing pub, with a fantastic atmosphere. Crammed full of tables for friends to sit around gossiping, sharing some food and ale. Located about a five min walk from Angel tube, it's far enough off the beaten track to not be too over populated, yet popular enough to sustain an infectious ambiance. The best thing about this venue is the private room available for hire, adjacent to the main bar. Here, local promoters host band evenings showcasing up ad coming talent. The intimate space means it's a great place to see some quality music; i saw Official Secrets Act here a few weeks back and they absolutely blew me away! This place has just reopened a re-vamp so my review might be a bit different to the others here. I popped in for lunch mid week with my other half and REALLY liked it. It's spacious and comfy and has a dining section as well as a bar. The immediate welcome we got was friendly and fun from the man behind the bar. They have a really good cider on tap, which impressed my other half immensely. We had food here and they were only too accommodating. They specially prepared a dish gluten free for us and I had one of the nicest burgers of my life! All in all, good pub food, good atmosphere and VERY friendly staff. Well worth a visit. read more

This isn't the worst pub in Farringdon. That's hardly a compliment though, is it? The place is teeming with them. It's really not the best pub, but it's fine. I didnt really spend enough time in here to give it a detailed review. I just don't understand why pubs insist on trying to be trendy dj bars. They're not trendy dj bars. They're pubs. If you can't dance, why play really loud dance music? So yes, a nice enough, clean, friendly pub. But as I couldn't hear what people were saying I was a bit annoyed. Maybe I'm getting old. read more

It's a nice looking boozer with a room eound the back where they do gigs of the music and comedy sort. A really nice room to watch comedy in as it's small, cosy and friendly and also a bit sexy, without being intimidating in any way. I went along to The Wilmington (just off from Exmouth Market) last night to see a friend's band play. We initially walked into the main bar and were instantly struck by how warm, cosy and buzzy the bar was. A very warm welcome to two cold punters on a fairly miserable, dark, rainy November evening! We asked at the bar where the band were playing and were directed out of the bar and to a side door where The Wilmington has a back room with a small stage and bar. Both main bar and back room have pretty good service, although it did get really busy (Friday night etc). Strikes me that this place is pretty popular with people going out straight from work or like us, seeking it out when there's a small, unknown band playing (I notice on their website they lay claim to some pretty impressive recent bands playing - The Guillemots, VV Brown and Mumford & Sons to name but a few!). Toilets are pretty basic (no lock on either female toilets) but a hundred times better than venues like The Enterprise or Barfly! 10-15mins walk from Kings Cross or Farringdon. 341 + 19 buses stop just down the road as you leave the pub on the left handside of Rosebery Ave. If you're in the area, pop-in for one or check out the list of bands playing any week night. From my "one night" experience the main bar music appears to have improved since Sian visited in Oct '08! read more

I'm not sure why it took a friend's gig to get me here... A cleverly split pub-cum-gig-venue, in that you can be in the pub bit, oblivious to the gig next door, and vice versa, or you can flit between them. The pub half holds its own as a boozer: buzzing on the Friday night I was there, good staff, quick service. But it's the performance-space half that sets this place apart: it seems to be in almost constant use for music, comedy or film screenings, which justifies the 10 minute trek from the nearest tube stations. Went here with work friends. The pub allows dogs so we brought in Charlie, our fearless Jack Russell. The staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about different beers on tap. I had the Ox Cheek roast over noodles with a side of rosemary chips. Amazing! In the middle of the hottest Easter in recorded history (probably) I entered the Wilmington Arms to the sounds of 'Jingle Bells'. Irony? Stupidity? Or am I just missing the joke? Above the unusually festive music was a particularly rowdy bunch of (what I assume were by the fact that one of the bar staff was one of them) regulars gathered around the bar - a little intimidating for a quiet looking pub on an afternoon. Anyway, The Wilmington is a fairly average pub. It looks like it would be a nice place to see an up and coming indie or folk band, or have a few quiet pints. Drinks were regular prices - food seemed a little expensive for what are regular pub grub type things - although they do serve a pint of chips. Food in drinks containers is always fun. Try to deny it. You can't. Also took note of an excellent and expansive condiment selection. Nice touch - ale in tankards. Apart from that - decidedly average. read more

After a 10 minute walk in the cold from Angel Tube station I wasn't in high spirits ... but as soon as i entered the venue part of the pub i was greeted by friendly, sociable staff, a good atmosphere and good choice of drinks at the bar. As the first act took to the stage the quality of sound was a little shaky, but a quick word from who I'm guessing was the promoter resulted in the music being corrected. Not a venue I would frequent, but if the right band were playing here I would definitly make the trek up to Angel. read more

I went to this place for the first time for a 'She Keeps Bees' gig and went to both the bar and the live music area downstairs. The bar is a nice chilled area busy (but not packed out) with trendy young professionals and students and the live music area is small but perfectly formed - we were about 1 foot from the band! Great supporting act organised by the venue and free cupcakes on the door! The staff in both areas were very chatty and welcoming. Walked by this place when looking for a Sunday roast, and had a wonderful meal here! A real gem! Sunday afternoon at 3pm and they had several tables available for us - yay. The waitstaff was incredibly accommodating, first letting us take as long as we wanted to mull over our first drink before ordering food. Then when our toddler woke up earlier than expected, they were quick to take our order and get us a high chair for him. Food was excellent. My husband had the steak roast, mom had the fish cake and I had the vegetarian quenelles. Mine was exceptional -- fresh flavors and delicious. Mom and husband both loved theirs as well. If rating on food alone, probably four stars. Really, really good gastropub food but maybe not the absolute best I've ever had. But add in the experience -- beautiful decor, excellent wait staff, no wait, cool bathrooms, etc. and this is definitely a five-star experience. read more
