Just started phase 2 of a kitchen remodel where we're looking for tile for a backsplash. Heard about this store from a co-worker so wanted to look a the selection. Huge store with lots of color segmented tile options with prices clearly marked. Just started shopping so not sure how the prices are but we were able to find some options that would work. Not a very customer service oriented vibe. One person at a computer terminal alone didn't even acknowledge us nor did others who were helping others. I did notice a few other customers like us, went in looked, no one asked if we needed help and left like us. Gap has greeters to make sure that they "touch" each customer that comes in. The tile shop is gigantic with dozens of aisles of sample tiles as well as incredible bath and kitchen designs. And, it did appear that they were only staffed with 2 salespeople (that we saw) and both were busy with other customers. We roamed around on our own and found the wood-like tile we liked as well as river rock pebble tile for the shower floor, but we still had questions and waited patiently for someone to help us. After about 20-30 minutes, a young man named Shahin offered his assistance. He was knowledgeable, patient, kind and very helpful. He gave great advice and educated us on the difference between porcelain and ceramic tiles. Based on his guidance, we decided to also replace the flooring in our bathroom, so our purchase was substantial. I had planned to write down the tile info and do some comparison shopping online, but because of this young man's assistance, we placed the order on the spot, without hesitation. My suggestion is to take advantage of the ability to roam around the large showroom without being hounded, and exercise some patience when waiting for a salesperson. Firstly, its nice to have a big show room to go check out tiles hands on. I am planning a kitchen and bath remodel so am on the lookout for options and pricing. I visited this morning with my two sons. I was able to walk the entire store - every aisle within 20-30 minutes. In that time, I passed all the working associates at least twice. Not once did any of them acknowledge me as a customer or greet me. At one point near the end of the visit, I ran into two associates together (having a nice conversation while putting tile away in an aisle). Instead of saying hi, they just apologized and didn't move. Totally horrible customer service. If just looking at tile here is this poor of an experience, I can't imagine what buying / installing tile would be like. In the words of Ariana Grande - thank you, next. read more

I've been here a few times to look for tile, the tile here is a bit pricey compared to the big box store but the selection of tile here was really impressive to the point of being somewhat overwhelming. Each time I've been I ended up leaving empty handed for two reasons 1. cost for my project I had a tight budget and eventually found something I liked elsewhere and 2. finding someone to help you, it just seems like maybe each time I've been there's only one person working there and they are occupied with another customer. I may end up coming back during the most recent visit my friend and I were getting to the point of hangry so we didn't stay too long, however, there is a small section of my kitchen that I want to add a backsplash to. The people who previously owned our house it looks like they may have gotten some of their tile from here since some of the items were tiles I previously looked at while here when I was fixing up my old house to sell. read more

The Tile Shop - several different types of tile - Flooring Near Me - Sterling, Virginia

After unpleasant experiences at other tile places, I found myself here at the Tile Shop. Large showroom. Lots of choices. For the most part, helpful staff. After a painstaking process of choosing among beige travertine or beige travertine (ugh - yes, really), hubby and I finally selected. The price was high, very high... but I could not find the same tile elsewhere... I came VERY close with what is called "Tumbled Marble" or "Tumbled Travertine" at Lowes and Home Depot. But the samples we had from The Tile Shop seemed to be more consistent in color and higher grade (less holes all the way through the tiles). We were only doing a backsplash, so we "sucked it up" and paid the nearly double per square foot price. Good news: -Tile came in as expected. Pick up was easy. It was the proper amount. Bad news: -The samples were the highest quality... the actual tiles received were of mixed quality and less consistent in color. Basically, the boxes for 1/3 the price at Home Depot and Lowes would have done just fine. A couple tips for those purchasing Travertine... (1) I learned through the process that it makes a difference if you use "sealer" or a "sealer/enhancer"... both are nice but they give a very different look. The way the tiles look normally in the show room when you are looking at samples is pretty close to the way the tile will look with just a sealer. We used an enhancer and it "enhances" the variances in the stone. To see what that looks like, rub the sample tiles with water. You'll see there can be a very big difference. (2) With Honed Tumbled Marble or Travertine, you can choose to purchase tiles which are "honed and filled" (a rustic look but smoothish finish - not polished, just smooth) or honed (and unfilled). When it is purchased honed and unfilled and then installed, the grout files the holes and gives it nearly the same look you'll get by purchasing honed & filled tile. When you purchase filled it's always filled with a white substance that I swear is grout. If you purchase unfilled you can have it "filled" with whatever color grout you choose. Darker grout gives the stone a darker look, lighter grout gives it a lighter look. (Note that the sales people all said "if the installer puts the sealant on before grouting and is very careful they can avoid filling the holes with the grout."... Um, not really - at least not practically. And um, then I would have HOLES showing straight through to the adhesive. That would be terrible. I like the way it looks filled in anyway, but I can't imagine how you could have it done any other way. We went a tad darker than the stone, matching other things in the room. My friend used white grout and did not use the enhancer... it's a VERY different look. Both are nice - but know what you want. read more

The Tile Shop - Flooring Near Me - Sterling, Virginia

We recently renovated our master bathroom and purchased our tile from the tile shop. As far as the products, what I really like is that they offer many different sizes and types of pieces in the same tile(bull nosed edges, pencil pieces, shower curbs, etc.). They also have very helpful staff, which is not like the box stores. Hours are great and you don't have to make an appointment(unlike other tile stores). Prices are reasonable and especially good during a sale. The return policy is good. Some places charge a restocking fee and they don't. I mainly worked with Nicky and Rob, but probably talked to everyone in there at one point or another and they were all great! I have been to most of the tile shops in the area and this one is my favorite. read more

The sales people are great! They were really helpful when picking out the tile that I wanted that fit in my budget and looked great. Unfortunately, the quality control of the tile itself has been problematic. I made the mistake of not looking through each box to make sure there were no cracks or dents, and the color was right. Several boxes of marble had VERY different colors. Some were totally grey with no veins --looked like mud. Other pieces were very yellow. Only were a few were the white with grey veins, which is what I wanted. Unfortunately my contractor put them on the wall today and I will have to ask him to take them down. I'll probably not replace the tile with something from the tile shop, but will look elsewhere. read more

We used The Tile Shop for our master and guest bathroom renovations. We have nothing but good things to say about this place! Casey was awesome and helped us with everything that we needed. I love the store's policy of letting you return pretty much anything that you don't end up using. This made the planning much simpler - we just bought everything that we thought that we might need, used what we liked the most, and returned the rest without any hassle at all. When we had a problem with some of the mosaic back splash tiles not matching (a manufacturing error, not the tile shop's) the staff bent over backwards to make certain that we got we needed to finish the project in the two days we had left with the contractor. We would definitely go to them again for our tiling projects! read more

We searched for tile for our bathroom floor in the big stores and found very little. We tried the Tile Shop (note, the Sterling location) and found many we loved. We picked one out and found out it'd be in in 5 days. Disappointed but okay. The sales person, Chris, couldn't navigate the computer to put our order under our own account, so he put it "under the store account". Um, okay I guess. We also bought all the necessary tools/products to do the install. Day 5 came and no call from the TS. I called and they found Chris and he found our order...and that it wasn't actually ever ordered. Huh? Some screw up due to the order being under the store account. Yada, yada... He said he'd order it and apologized and gave us an $80 discount. Um...okay accidents happen but ... Five more days came and went...no call from the TS. I called again...no one could find our order but Chris who they eventually tracked down. For some reason, only Chris had the magical powers to find our order in the computer system. He let us know it'd be in in the next morning before 12 noon. Really? Another day? The next morning came and went. I called in the mid-afternoon and sure enough the order was in. Note, no one from the TS EVER called me to let me know anything about my order. I had to track it down myself time after time. I picked it up, received a discount as promised, which I had to ask for. Like others on here, everything was great until the whole "actually getting what we paid for" came into the picture. And not a single call from them to communicate the status of my order. If I'd never called, I'd have never gotten my order and they'd still have my money. Not sure I'd ever use them again...though their selection is top notch...maybe a different location. Chris seemed like a nice enough guy, but the customer service was pretty terrible. I shouldn't have to track my order down time after time...especially after the first screw-up. read more

I have nothing good to say about this store. The prices are high, the customer service is poor, and their return policy is the worst that I have experienced. I recently bought some tile samples to help us in making a decision on our new backsplash. We ultimately found a higher quality product for less money. When I took the sample back to The Tile Shop for a refund, they would not accept it. I was stuck with a sample that I paid for and had no use for. Never again will I use The Tile Shop. MSI Stone on Old Ox Road in Sterling is the place to go. They offer free samples, have lower prices, and their customer service is outstanding. read more

We are new to renovations and home improvement, and had no idea what we were doing. Also, we had our kids with us, as part of our renovation project was their bathroom. Brian was very good - he knew what questions to ask, he was patient, never intrusive or overbearing. He understood what we were going for, and made the process much easier. Over the course of both bath renovations I visited the shop several times. Each time Brian was there to help me, make suggestions, load up the car, and generally make what could have been very stressful much easier. I would highly recommend the Tile Shop - their selection and inventory is huge, their staff - or at least Brian, since he is the person I worked with - is very knowledgeable, thorough, and helpful. If you enjoy taking 5 trips to the store, having to send away contractors already at your house ready to install and boarding your dogs for another day, then this is the place for you. I placed an order for pick up the following Saturday. Tile was picked up and later in the week the contractors realized it was the wrong tile. Since they were working on additional jobs at my place, they were able to rearrange their time. I took the tile back and was told that the salesperson that helped me was no longer there. The manager and assistant manager apologized, gave me a very small discount and reordered the correct tile. I then had to wait until it's arrival on Saturday to pick up. I was there when they opened to pick up the tile and the installers were in my home prepping for installation. Guess what - it again was the wrong tile, different than the first wrong tile. The manager said that he would call around to see if they could find it anywhere. They found some in Rockville and some in Tysons, but by that time my installers had already left since they were not able to sit around and wait. The manager did bring in the tile from the other locations and I picked it up Sunday (my 5th trip to the store). Fortunately my contractors were able to come back today to install and my dogs are being boarded at my cost. I was told that this rarely happens... I guess that I was one of the lucky ones that had it happen twice! read more

It has been a while since I shop at the Tile Shop in Sterling,Va but this past week I had the best Customer Service from Jacky Mobley. She went above and behyond her tasks and made sure I had enough backsplash tiles for my kitchen. She picked up tiles from the Rockville and Vienna stores on her day off so I can have them ready for pick up by my contractor. Thank you Jacky for your excellent customer service. Wow, these people were helpful with great prices. The assistant manager, Jackie, helped with the design of three bathrooms, including a master bath. Great prices and great end result. I had one quote to just remodel the master bath for about $17K. I did both kids bathrooms, tiling floor and showers, and the master bath for about $11K in total including labor. The master bath included tiling floors, shower, jacuzzi area, and installing new vanities w granite counters, mirrors and lighting and frameless glass shower. Jacky made this project such a success by always answering by phone calls even if she wasn't working, driving to other stores to get the supplies the contractors needed and helping on pricing. I'd give 6 stars if I could because the experience was really that good. read more

Brian helped us pick and gave us ideas, and I tell you I took my time to decide. The prices were better than other places we went to. Brian was very patient and helpful. They are always patient and creative if I have an idea, they will throw one or two my way. Tiles and Tribulations I went to three Tile Shops to get all of the tiles I needed very quickly. I ended having to go to 3 stores--Manassas, Sterling, and Rockville. The Manassas store just opened and folks there were friendly, helpful and did move the tiles to my car. Even the folks in the Rockville store were nice, very helpful and offered to move the tiles to my car. These are all important points compared to the Sterling store. The Sterling store...you should stay away from.The people who "work" there are lacking basic customer service skills. I paid for some tiles at Manassas and had to pick them up at the Sterling store--18 pieces of 12x12 (approximately) marble. The lady Daihana who was there as less than helpful, wasn't sure what I needed to pick up, didn't smile, etc. I asked her for help to move the tiles to my car. And waited and waited and waited....she helped about 5 customers while I stood there. Granted nobody came to the front to help her--she also never called for help either. After 15 minutes and repeatedly asking her if someone could help, another employee showed up and i asked he had a cart or something so I could at least transport the tiles to my car and load it myself. He simply offered to move it for me. Daihana never raised an eyebrow, never moved, never apologized, never acknowledged me. Customer service--FAIL. The next day I had to return to the Sterling store because some of the tiles were damaged as well as some trim pieces I picked up. I should have called first to see if they had inventory--they did not have inventory for the damaged marble pieces and the other trim pieces were all defective--pieces were all stuck together back to back. I arrived at 11:05 on Sunday and doors were locked, some guy was on the phone staring at me, i'm carrying 5 marble tile pieces, I keep trying to open the door and he finally comes and opens the door and runs back to his phone (didn't offer to help me carry the tile). Finally another guy (no name tag but wearing a wrinkled, stained white shirt and really unkempt looking) processed my return. I realized 2 days later that he took away one of my receipts that has an open item that paid for but had not picked up yet. I started to ask him about inventory for another store and he walked away. Yes, walked away from a customer asking him a question. Another sales person standing there helped me out after I said loudly, "I guess this transaction is done." This guy told me where the Rockville store was but had no pen for me to write down the address. No pen in the store? Customer service--FAIL. The next day, we go from Virginia to Maryland to pick up the additional tiles. Our GPS could not locate the Maryland store so I called the Sterling store and a woman gave me the phone number for the store and when I asked for the address, she said she didn't have it but I could call the Maryland store. Customer service--FAIL. Go to Manassas and see Phil or to Rockville to see Nick. Stay away from the Sterling store (interesting how most of them don't even wear their name tags). read more

I am very disappointed with my experience. The staff seems nice and knowledgeable enough, but where it really counts they fell through. I placed an order for tile and when I went to pick it up the morning they told me it would be in, I was told it wouldn't be in until the next evening. There goes TWO WHOLE DAYS!!! When you have three days off of work that you plan a tiling project this is definitely an inconvenience. All I got was a big sorry and that they would get it to me by tomorrow night for free. Gee thanks for expediting shipment for free after you obviously forgot to place the order! read more

Went with significant other to buy some tile for kitchen. Sales guy was good about design, but it all ended there. He said he was giving us contractor price (our contractor would be picking it up). When our contractor saw the price he said I paid retail. So I called and the sales guy gave me the run around and even though I asked 6-7 times "so you're saying that $xx is the contractor price correct?" he still couldn't give a simple yes or no answer. He had to call me back 3 times. My contractor went in the next day and got the actual contractor price. Of course they messed up the credit back by shorting it over $86, but someone in corporate/accounting must have caught the mistake so we got the credit all back. Will be redoing bathrooms shortly, have around $45,000 to work with. I will NOT be returning here to purchase tile. read more

This store has no clue what customer service means. I had to get a specific tile for a project. The closest store to me (Manassas) had some, and they confirmed that Sterling had the rest. My wife got a sitter for our baby and drove to Sterling (2 hours round trip with traffic) to pick up the tile. Turns out the top tile in the stack was the right SKU, the others were all wrong. Fine, mistakes happen, it's the response that was horrible. The solution was that we could make yet another drive to Tysons because apparently Sterling didn't actually have the tile (even though their inventory system said they had 10x as many as we needed), or we could wait a week for the tile to be delivered from Tysons to Sterling (not Manassas, which is the store closest to me). What?!? A week to transport the tile less than 10 miles, to the wrong store no less? Finally it became quite clear that Anna had no interest in her store taking responsibility for their mistake, and she just wanted to get rid of us. She told me I would have to take up the issue with the Manassas store since that's where the order originated (never mind that the mistake was 100% the fault of the Sterling store). This place is awful, and it clearly starts from the top. read more

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER. I have never written a review on Yelp before but I have never had a reason to until now. Man behind the counter was very rude and totally helpless. The worst experience in all our home improvement adventures. Ordered two shower shelves on a Saturday, promised on the following Tuesday. No one called on Tuesday but I wasn't in a hurry since the shelves couldn't be installed until the weekend. Called Saturday morning, was told they were in. Drove over, stood in line for thirty minutes (while watching another poor soul suffer with the staff) and when it was finally my turn was told that the staff member read the screen wrong (after they looked all over the back room for them?) They were not in although the screen did show two shelves in stock. When I asked when they would be in I was told "soon". Cut to the following Sunday, shelves still not in. I asked for my money back and was not offered any apology. I have never waited less than twenty minutes for help in this store. The staff struggles with every question they are asked. I observed this while I waited in line. Avoid this store like the plague. I was able to order the shelves online. Wish that was offered to me at the store instead of the false promise that they could successfully help me. read more

When we looked up information on The Tile Shop, I became a little nervous when I came across all of the negative reviews. But there is such a small selection of tile at Home Depot, we were desperate for different tile patterns and design ideas! When we walked in we were greeted by Reza. He was so helpful in helping is pick out tile. We ordered our tile on Sunday and it came in by Wednesday. We can't say anything bad about this place! We would definitely go back! read more

We have good service from Brian and Gabriel, and one other person. When we decided what we wanted to do, they advised us that while they carry a huge variety of tile, they only had a couple of boxes of each in stock. For a project the size of our kitchen, they would have to order it. They did, and it arrived within a week. They provided a full package of what was needed to install it - cement board, mortar, tiles, grout, and sealant, and they loaded it into our car. They also provided a short training course on how to install it, but after looking at it, my wife decided she would rather pay someone to do it relatively quickly rather than have it drag out for a month or more with me doing it. read more

My wife and I bought tiles from here to ipdate her shower. The staff was very helpful in the aspect of design and came up with ideas we would have never come up with by ourselves. We found the tiles slightly over priced and had a few dilemmas with tiles arriving on time. The staff apologized for the mistakes and offered a slight discount. All in all we are pleased and would not hesitate to return to the store again. read more
