We wanted to have the carpet and hardwood flooring in the main level and upstairs level replaced with luxury vinyl flooring. This included installing hardwood on the stairs that matched the vinyl. Also, we wanted to have a stair-runner installed on the staircase going to the upstairs level. Lastly, we wanted to replace the pad and carpet in the basement. We had the best experience working with Clawes Carpets and Flooring. It started with Katherine who listened to our desires for the house floors and she made excellent recommendations for the luxury vinyl and carpets. Doug came to measure the home and also made some helpful recommendations related to the baseboards. We agreed and had Clawes also installed new baseboards on the main level. The installation of the luxury vinyl was done in a day - amazing. The carpet in the basement was done on another day that week, and the stair-runner and baseboards installed on another day. The teams were polite, efficient and did an excellent job. They also cleaned up nicely after they were done. This has been the most pleasant experience for us in all aspects of this project. Everyone was so helpful and answered our many questions. We received two other proposals for similar work. While Clawes wasn't the cheapest (they were in the middle of the three prices), they represented the best value based upon our interaction with them, the detailed written proposal, and the kind assistance they gave in helping us to decide. read more

Floor looks nice, however, none of the new transitions were put where the old ones were and the caulking around the tub had to be replaced, twice, still isn't secure and the master bath tub has flooded through the ceiling twice now. Wow, did I step into a carpet place or a hospitality firm? They had a cute little sitting area with some kids toys, snacks all around (like a scavenger hunt), a full out beverage table along with more snacks, and the bathroom was decked out with mints/tampons/anything you may need to freshen up before you hit the finest selection of carpets in this side of the shopping center! Our carpet guru walked us through the process, let us feel/step on some samples, and even gave us a whole bunch of samples to take home to look at in different lights. Family owned business for over 40 years, you can tell they are passionate about not only carpets but the service and experience. I did not think I was going to enjoy coming here so much! I contracted with Clawes Carpets & Flooring to replace wood floors in my finished basement (950 sq. ft.) and main level (1480 sq. ft.) - a large area. We selected Preverco engineered wood to be glued down to the concrete slab in the basement and Preverco natural hardwood for the main level. We selected Preverco for its combination of quality and reasonable price. Clawes price was substantially better than the other bid I received, and they promised to complete the work in 3 days - I didn't believe the 3 days. They sent a large crew who immediately set to work removing the existing wood and immediately behind that installing the new wood. They finished in 2 days! The quality of the installation was exceptional. I noted how thoroughly they cleaned the concrete slab and checked the wood subfloor on the main level for any left over nails and vacummed up all debris. Highly recommend this place. Just had new carpeting installed in our condo. The sales person was honest and helpful. The carpeting was installed perfectly-- and they guarantee to come back if it starts to wrinkle, but I doubt that will happen. Great care was taken to stretch it properly. Also they took the care to vacuum all the loose carpet after they were done-- true professionals. Will use them again!! (last place we used told us we'll need to vacuum the first few days/weeks to get all the carpet out-- we now realize quality carpeting shouldn't shed like that) read more

I bought LVT for two floors in my home a little over 18 months ago. As soon as the sales process started I made it clear I wanted the subfloor checked before the floor was laid in my kitchen and foyer, very high traffic areas. I was assured it would be checked and assured it was fine the day the floor was installed. They laid the floor and within a short period of time I started having issues with the floor, including some pieces cracking and very noticeable dips and humps. They sent repair folks out numerous times and each time I suggested they check the subfloor. They said it was fine and not the problem. In the last two weeks the owner finally came to the conclusion it is the subfloor and want to replace the floor after the subfloor is fixed. However, they want me to pay for 80% of the cost of the new floor and installation. So basically I would be paying for the floor twice after I raised the issue when I initially contracted in July, 2020. I would be absolutely be sure you are comfortable with how the floor will be installed and how they will handle any issues as they come up during installation as I don't believe you can trust they will not install a floor as it should be if things are less than perfect. I think they installed it to insure they would get paid and there would be no delay in the installation. read more

Very displeased with the customer service here. Came based in recommendations. And out current flooring was apparently done by Clawes. However in the store we were trying to sign a contract and the sales person was busy chit chatting away with another customer about traffic, etc. And when she was with us cluelessly trying to figure out the pricing for the contract was coughing and snorting her boogers. So disgusting!! I hope we didn't contract enterovirus while wasting our time here. read more

I recently had my entire condo re-carpeted by Clawes. The salesperson & estimator from the Oakton branch were both nice and helpful when making choices and explaining the installation process. I went with some nice thick carpet by Shaw & did an upgrade on the padding. The carpet looks & feels great- particularly when walking around in bare feet. The installation crew was right on schedule & friendly, obviously knew what they were doing. Everything went quite smoothly, plus they finished up earlier than I expected- all in all a pleasant experience. I guess my only disappointment/complaint was-- there was absolutely no followup on the installation. I did not receive any spec sheets, warranty info, or, product care/cleaning info on the carpet, or even a phone call just asking how things went, and, was I satisfied with the work? Even my car dealer calls me after every service call, even if it was just a $40 oil change......I would have rated them 5 stars otherwise. read more

A couple of Years ago we had our carpets cleaned by Clawes Carpet. Their work was just OK but as we prefer to deal with other family owned businesses, we decided to give them another chance. On or about 10-10-2016 we called and spoke to Jeff, we made an appointment for 10-31-2016 between 10am and 11am. On Saturday the 29th we moved everything off of the carpets and vacuumed the entire store. On Monday the 31st when they failed to show as scheduled we called Clawes and were told: 1) I will have to back to you. 2) Jeff was not there. 3) We have your name but we see no details. 4) We will check with our crew and call you back. After no call was received in 45 minutes, we called back and they said they were still waiting for a call from their crew and would call us back. One hour later they called back and said there would be no way for them to get to us today. At this point we cancelled our order and will never use their services again, and will never recommend them to anyone. All of our work was for nothing and they could care less. Company walked off the job when the electrical integrity of a home-made, jury-rigged, non-National Electrical Code compliant, pig-tail extension cord (to power the floor sanding machine) was produced and questioned. Goal was to pull amperage from 220 volt line on one end to and through a (marked) 125 volt receptacle on the other end. Or, workers said they could remove a 220 volt circuit breaker from the circuit breaker panel and tap out power directly at the panel. No one had a Virginia Electrical License. read more

Clawes Carpet just did an amazing job installing vinyl tile in our basement. The crew basically worked non-stop for 11 hours, had to deal with an uneven floor, moving utility sinks and freezers, and the floor looks fantastic. Clawes was very easy and professional to work with, from getting the estimate to the actual installation. The price was fair and the quality of the workmanship was superb. I don't know which Clawes exactly, we went through Costco to have our floor installed. Doug was our contact person and he is the best. The team who installed our wood laminate flooring was awesome. They finished in one day and cleaned up everything, moved furniture back etc., they worked hard the whole day! I had to call Doug, because we had something what needed to be fixed, and the team came back and fixed what needed to be fixed. Always polite and hard working. really the best customer service ever! Great service in walking through all the options for basement flooring. We wanted something essentially waterproof and felt the vinyl plank from Home Depot felt flimsy. We wound up going with the Shaw Classico Floorte in Teak. Wish we would have used Clawes to do the carpet. We thought it would have been cheaper to do Home Depot but in the end, that wasn't the case. read more

When I ordered the carpet I indicated I needed it by a certain date. They checked and said it should not be a problem and we scheduled installation as far out as possible but still respecting my drop dead date (6 weeks.) The day of installation I got a voicemail that the "carpet had not even left California yet so would not be installed!" I had guests arriving the next day. I had moved a lot of furniture to accommodate the carpet installation and had made many additional accommodations for Clawes' installation. They could have let me know a week before but didn't bother. I cancelled. Nobody needs a vendor who doesn't respect a client's situation. read more

I questioned the amount of carpet ordered for my house, so I called one of the "Clawes" (the owners, one of the Clawes' sons) and he yelled at me, called me every name in the book, hung up on me, ranted and raved, then when I threatened to write a bad review on Yelp, he threatened to take me to court... Do yourself a favor and avoid Clawes Carpet. read more
