I've been going to the threading salon for over 5 years now. I've moved to different places around Chicago but continued to drive there. I moved out of Chicago a few months ago and every time I'm in the city, getting my eyebrows done here is on my list of things to do! The service is phenomenal. The owner is really great and everyone that works there is great. I've been coming here for more than 5 years, the spot I used to go to on Devon changed owners. I only ever get my eyebrows threaded. $7 for threading is a steal and leaves plenty of room for a generous tip. I'm never disappointed. I usually go to Lubna however she usually has a line of people specifically waiting for her. I recently did a full arm wax, Syeda was great and she did the whole thing in 20 minutes or less. TLDR; don't go here, poor experience! This happened 3 years ago, sorry I waited so long to post about this but looking at the dark spot on my face upset me again and finally made me write this. I actually came here for 3 years consistently throughout college every 2-3 weeks and had good experiences with all of the technicians until once Lubna burned my lip with wax. She never apologized or owned up to it. Actually one of the other technicians there kept apologizing for her. Lubna kept blaming it on the wax being too hot. I've gotten burned before but it's never been burned deep enough to leave a mark that lasted forever, That's how badly she burned me. I complained and the owner gave me a $25 gift certificate for the salon even though honestly I never wanted to go to this place again. $25?? That is not going to fix the discoloration on my lip, I should've sued this place for ruining my skin. Normally, I wouldn't stop going to a place from one bad experience. But the fact I now I have this dark spot on my upper lip (of all places) that will never go away was enough to make me cut this place out for good. Especially considering how the employee and management handled it. 3 years later, my upper lip is still as dark as ever and I've tried every discoloration product known to man. I acknowledge that a lot of people are advocates for Lubna. That's fine if you've had good experiences with her, I had good experiences with her prior to this as well. But to me, one poorly handled mistake when it comes to hair/skin care is enough to ruin a reputation, just like one time going to a restaurant and having a bug in your food might ruin it for you. If you haven't had this happen to you, you're lucky, but had I known this was how this situation was to be handled by management, I would've stopped going there long before. If you like Lubna that's fine, but my frustration was moreso how this situation was handled with her and with the owner that will made me never come here again. read more

Decent place to get your eyebrows done. Its not upscale and they wont do a full consult by looking at face shape like some people were complaint about (but which eyebrow salon has ever done that--unless you're paying a fortune) For the price, its a good deal. The first time I went, I was happy with my eyebrows (6/10). The second time I went, it was a 8/10. It honestly depends on who you get, but I haven't had a bad experience and I'll continue to go there. If there's something you're very particular about (like the thickness of your brows), just tell them and they'll work with you. I've also never been asked for tips. This place was close to Rush, where I go to school (plus), came with good recommendations from friends (plus plus), and was supposedly super cheap (sold). So off I go to get the caterpillars known as my eyebrows taken care of. Background: I have good eyebrows. Not to brag, but like, really good. They're thick and grow well and I really like them. I've actually gotten compliments from strangers on them. Walked in and was immediately taken to a chair, so it was nice I didn't have to wait. The salon looked clean, but was very sparse. The lady doing my eyebrows was very friendly; when my eyes watered (which they tend to when I get my brows done), she got a tissue and wiped my eyes, making sure not to smear my makeup. At the end of the session, my brows did look good. They were also a lot thinner than I wanted them to be. Like I said, I have thick brows, and I told her I just wanted a clean up and a little shape when I sat down. What she did is completely redo the shape and take off a lot more hair than I wanted. She also missed one or two hairs I had to pluck later. It sucks since it's hair, and I have to wait for the rest of my eyebrows to grow back. This isn't the best threading salon I've been to. But it's definitely the cheapest, and for $7, I guess beggars can't be choosers. She did a good job overall, just maybe meant for someone who wants your standard, skinnier brows, not something thicker. read more

This place is great! I just had my eyebrows threaded for the first time. Minus the interesting sensation of getting ones eyebrows threaded it was a good experience. I have nice thick Italian eyebrows that easily get out of line. The ladies at the Threading Salon definitely put them in check! =) My eyebrows look fantastic! Did you know that there are some straight up cracked out places in South Loop/Bronzeville that actually think it's acceptable to charge $15 for JUST eyebrowing threading? Pssssssh. Thankfully, The Threading Salon is sane and charges $7 for eyebrow and $5 for upper lip. Devon Street pricing on Taylor Street. How nice! Anyway, the threading was pretty good, quick and almost painless. The energetic and funny threader did a great job keeping the shape and cleaning up those random stray hairs that appear. Sooooo, this place keeps getting better & better (or at least my experience does lol). I just moved from LA to Chicago and was looking for a new place to get my eyebrows done. Naturally I turned to yelp. Based on its good reviews I went to check out the Threading Salon. Bushda threaded my eyebrows and I am very pleased. I have been to a fair share of eyebrow threading/waxing places so I know a good place when I see one. She was very sweet. Not to mention gentle!-usually when I get my eyebrows threaded it hurts, but not this time. She was also very thorough. I had gone to a random place to get my eyebrows done just before my move to Chicago and had been unhappy with the way my eyebrows turned out, but I was very pleased with the way Bushda was able to get them back into shape. You also cant beat the price at $7 and the punch card which allows you to get your 8th time free. I'll be back for sure. read more

This review is 3.5 stars and strictly for Nikki only. I usually go to Azam at Spa Di La Fronza in the Loop but sometimes I can't afford her. I recently tried this place to get my eyebrows shaped and it was quite good. Nikki was clean and didn't give me any cuts or rashes. I had to 'guide' her through my eyebrowing, as she initially made one thicker than the other. But after some fixing they looked just fine. It's a no frills place that gets the job done. So, here's the thing. I have invisible hair. Doesn't mean it isn't there, it just means that you cannot see it unless you are in the sunlight or really close to my face....that being said, I have waxed for years. Only trying threading one time with awful results many years ago. Recently I have been getting ingrown hairs that look like acne. Bad for a 30+ woman. They are ingrown hairs (TMI, I know...). I thought I might give threading another try just to see because waxing is horribly painful on my pale, sensitive skin. I look like a burn victim every single time. Niki was amazing. Her technique is outrageous, it is like performance art. I was in and out in 10 minutes. She said she has been threading since 1998 and I believe her....she was so light on my skin. Her 'hand' is very soft. She goes fast and gives you tips on how to stretch the skin so it doesn't hurt as much. My skin feels so much better and I believe I have found a solution to my 'problem'. No burn marks, either......my skin is not irritated or red at all. Again, amazing! read more

Threading is no easy task, and although I can thread my own eyebrows, it's much easier to get them done by the professional ladies at this salon! When I first moved here I tried out a place in Lakeview, which was much closer to me, but the woman took over 20 minutes to thread my eyebrows...now that's a long-ass time considering my eyebrows are already well shaped and usually just need some cleaning up! The first time I came to this salon I was lucky enough to have my eyebrows threaded by Niki...and well, the rest is history. Niki is always sweet, friendly, and gets my eyebrows done in a snap! And when I decided to try out Brazilian waxes, I could not think of anyone better to go to then my trusted esthetician, Niki. I was a bit hesitant at first due to the fear of excessive pain and she suggested a French Bikini to start with...but her gentle procedure (and the fact that she uses the less painful hard wax) led me to getting a full Brazilian and now I'm hooked! read more

I visited this establishment based on the reviews and also Nadine that was doing my eyebrows no longer works at Sahan Motherland Salon and Spa in Hyde Park. The Threading Salon was nice and clean also the service was quick. I've been letting my eyebrows grows out for a while so, I was really looking forward to my brows looking good. Sculpted brows is what I wanted. My brows are thick and fully grown out I had a lot to work with. Shaizia thread my brows( I ask what her name was just in case my brows look different once I got in the car and I would use her again) she wrote her name on a business cards and the days that she work. Before beginning the treading I stated clearly what I wanted done not thin but not thick and some lift she said OK, I felt confident being that this is the nature of this business which is eyebrows. I thought she understood what I wanted NOT SO MUCH! The shape of the eyebrow is correct when the beginning of the brow is aligned with the center of the nostril and the arch falls over the the back third of the eye. She gave me the mirror nope I don't like that so, I had her to do more. Your eyebrows are an important part of the face they add to the look of your face .What is this? OK, I will wait until I get in some better light but at this point it was too late. My brows look-like neighbors instead of cousins I would prefer twins but neighbors not so much.The price was reasonable $7. I will return but I WILL NOT use her. Its a few more ladies that people Yelp about so I will give them one more try. Shaizia is a nice lady just not for my eyebrows. Three stars A-OK. Parking was fairly easy. I love love love this place! I usually stop by on Saturday mornings which might not be such a great idea as they usually have a packed house shortly after opening. My usual waiting time is about 30-1 hour which I think is a little over board but needless to say my eyebrows always look fabulous! I usually try and sit with Nikki since she always leaves my eyebrows the way that I like them to look, but the line is so long that I go with the first available person. The eyebrow gods have spoken. $12 gets your eyebrows and upper lip threaded, snipped and shaped. These ladies are good and fast. Finding a cost efficient parlor providing good services in downtown can be a daunting task. Based on my previous experiences, I would rather prefer to keep my money in my wallet and my feet outside most of the downtown parlors! But this ones different. Clean, friendly and efficient staff combined with reasonable prices makes it a clear winner. (full face waxing costs only $30!) I get my services from Meghavi, who's work is almost like a craft! Great work! You can book appointments for full face waxing and other waxing services (hands, legs etc). The rest would be walk-in's. Tuesday's seem to be less crowded when compared to the other days. Words of wisdom - If you can't reach the parlor around 11:00 am on Saturday's be prepared to wait for atleast 30 mins in the queue! read more

I usually wait until my second visit to write a review, often to either give a second chance to a place that didn't meet expectations the first time, or to make sure excellent service was repeated. I'm happy to report that the second scenario was the case here. Niki is absolutely fantastic! She has done a wonderful job on my eyebrows twice and I've also been very happy with the waxing services that she offers. I definitely plan on being a regular customer from now on. As someone who is relatively new to waxing, she made me feel completely at ease. I can't stress how important that is when someone is performing such a personal service. I'm the type that does not like to pay for cosmetic services, because I prefer saving the money and doing it myself. My bridesmaids brought me here last year before my bachelorette party started to give my eyebrows some threading. I used to pluck them and they were thin lines, but my sister and my best friend insist I should grow them out to see how they will look like so I've been growing them out until that day when I went here (September 2012). I randomly got a lady who took good care of me. She knew I wasn't familiar with threading, so she was very helpful throughout the process. In the end it look really nice, even one of the customers noticed and complimented. I came back here couple months ago and got some random lady. She was okay, but I wasn't completely happy because couple days later my eyebrows didn't look as good as the other lady who did mine. I recently went back and got the original lady who did my eyebrows (yeah I didn't get her name, again). Once again it is nice! I only need to come back to get my eyebrows threaded after 3 or so months which isn't bad at all. I really like coming here. They are very popular so it gets crowded and it is small inside. So first off, I hate hate HATE waxing salons where they plop you in a chair and put you on display for the rest of the world to see as they yank, pluck, and tear away. But whatever, that's how it's set up here. I walk in, and afterwards another lady came in. All three of the workers were busy, but even though I signed my name first, the woman behind me was seen before I was. Ok...not ok. Minus one star. Then, the next issue I had is the woman who worked on me made it a big deal that I didn't want my eyebrows done (I had them done the weekend before and no, I don't like stick thin brows). It was almost a hassle that I had other areas on my face/neck needing waxed (I have a hormone condition so I need a little more maintenance than most). Let's face it, having hair where most women don't is embarrassing. So I would have preferred if she did not make a giant deal about it so I had to repeat loudly several times what services I wanted. And she also seemed annoyed that I did not want threading, look-- waxing is less painful for me. Deal with it. On top of all that, she got a huge glob of wax on my cardigan that I just had cleaned. No apologies, she just rubbed it in like it wasn't a big deal and said it'll come out in the wash....it's dry clean only lady. *sigh* read more
