Extortion (definition): Extortion is a criminal offense involving the obtaining of money, property, or services through coercion, intimidation, or threats of future harm. In my 36 years on earth, this company has earned my second review. That's how much of a scam this company is. 1 week after my daughter was born, our neighbor had a slab leak that caused water to suddenly come through our floor boards. I called a plumber, who called a water damage mitigation company who called The Testing Agency - so 3 layers removed. I never spoke with anyone from the testing agency or approved them to do any work on our property - that was all approved through this water damage company. I never signed a work authorization either as I was never provided a quoted price (since I never spoke to them). I got my insurance company involved and they warned me the testing agency was a shady outfit and recommended someone else. That company came in and performed the test for ~$400. The testing agency is trying to charge us $2,500 for work we never approved. Almost a year of harassing calls and a red papered letter saying "final notice", the testing agency is now looking to place a lien on our property for not paying their extortion fee. I spoke to them once and the message was clear "either pay this fee, or sign the work authorization so we can bill your insurance, or we will take legal action against your family". DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! I wish I had read reviews. They are a very misleading scam company. I had a plumber misdiagnose a plumbing issue. This plumber ordered the testing agency to come do asbestos testing against my knowledge. I was told not to worry about a thing, everything would get fixed and everything would be covered by home owners insurance. (It turns out because it was the wrong issue I did NOT even NEED asbestos testing). Long story short, the insurance company did not cover anything. And the testing agency turned around and said I owed them $1800 for a tiny little apartment for asbestos testing I did not even need or want. Right away the Testing Agency started harassing me for payment through text, email, phone voicemail, the harassment was constant. They then threatened to put a lien on my property if I did not pay their outrageous fees. I will be reporting them to the better business bureau. This company has a DBA called Preferred Testing and I would strongly caution against ever using this company. They don't do any of the testing themselves, they outsource the actual taking of the sample as well as the laboratory. The person that was sent to my house is not certified to take asbestos samples unsupervised but they tried to cover it up in the report. In the asbestos report, generated by The Testing Agency, it clearly states Oren Assaref took the sample and provided the sample to the lab. This turned out to be the owner of the laboratory, Home Biotesting. Both the laboratory and The Testing Agency turned combative and argumentative when I told them the report was wrong, I've never met that person and for some reason the report indicates he was the one who was in my home taking the samples. So then I started to dig into why they didn't want the technician's name on the report who actually took the samples, Michelle S (none of this review is about her, although she should have mentioned she is not qualified to take samples on any area over 100 ft without supervision but was otherwise incredibly nice). All of this is information that can be verified on the OSHA website but both consultants and technicians are required to be certified/credentialed. Some trainees are permitted to take samples but only under direct supervision of somebody who is certified. She wasn't certified, and they tried to cover it up by putting the laboratory owner's name on the report. When I pointed this out, and when it was clear this was an intentional falsification, the laboratory stopped responding in writing and wanted to talk via phone only until I mentioned I would be recording the conversation then refused to comply with correcting the report afterwards. Now technically the report was coming from The Testing Agency and they were aware Michelle was not certified so I reached out to them as well. See pictures, the absolute unprofessional and condescending responses were shocking. They knew she wasn't certified, they knew the report was falsified, and it was only after I threatened to report them to OSHA that they reluctantly complied with adding Michelle's name to the report as the individual who took the sample but insisted she was directly supervised by the laboratory owner whose name still appears in the report. This person was never in my home, Michelle was not supervised at any time during the taking of the samples, and she was at my house less than 30 minutes, part of that time was spent playing with my dogs. They even said they were perplexed, used that actual word, essentially about why this was a big deal to me. There are huge issues in the home and I'm trying to do everything by the book and make my insurance company happy, but to find out that somebody unqualified was sent to take samples and this was intentionally covered up so they wouldn't get in trouble for it....? No I'm an investigator so I start doing even more digging and the owner of the company is currently in the middle of a lawsuit with the Los Angeles Superior Courts which may explain the reason for the DBA. Either way, he insisted on communicating with me in the most belittling manner as if he couldn't be bothered with correcting or even addressing and accepting fault for an obvious falsification. The shadiness of it all was incredible! I would not ever, ever recommend this company nor would I recommend the company that recommended The Testing Agency/Preferred Testing. USAA has since set an appointment to discuss removing them from their preferred partners list and OSHA has been contacted. I was also shocked that I had to keep checking in for results and didn't get them until a week later. Even less professionally, they texted me "none detected" and left it at that. It was only until I asked for the results in writing/via email that I received the falsified report. Via text they also vehemently maintain the report is accurate "100%". How is it 100% accurate when you later admit via email it contained false information? Shaun, the owner, is the type to stick to his lie..... and he did. Owners like this prioritize short-term gains over long-term relationships with clients and that doesn't seem to be a business model that's working for him, Lindsay, or anyone else I communicated with.
