"Multiple Layers" of Deception and Unprofessionalism... In my correspondence with Gene K., a representative of Scope Environmental (cut and pasted from Yelp chat room) mentions "We can definitely help. Our asbestos inspection, survey, and lab results pricing is very competitive. It's $625 for the inspection and report. Each sample is $35. No other fees. Generally, results and reports will be available within 24-48 hours". Gene K. also mentioned the following "Some samples have multiple layers, and that can not be determined prior to taking the physical sample. You are welcome to call in so that you can properly comprehend the procedures". However, UNDISCLOSED FEES can creep into the price charged to the customer, e.g. such as the need to test "multiple layers" of one material; so, "No other fees" is (deliberately) misleading and therefore, deceptive. A field inspector (Daisy Flamenco) of Scope Environmental, arrived at the project site and upon seeing the area that needed sampling, asked the homeowner for a ladder to get her modest stature to the sampling material areas. When sampling the ceiling, Ms. Flamenco was barely able to reach the sampling surface (needed to be on her tippy toes), even with a step ladder (provided by the homeowner). ALL sample takers must come fully prepared for all conditions at the work site and not rely on the homeowner to provide tools, equipment or assistance of any kind to do THEIR job! Ms. Flamenco was dressed casually, no respirator or other appropriate protective equipment or gear, which is not only hazardous to herself, but sends the message to the homeowner (overseeing the work), that asbestos is really not that harmful. Even two and a half years following the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is appropriate if all workers who enter a home, to wear a mask or at least offer to wear one, but Ms. Flamenco failed to show the occupants of the residence, such consideration. Most (professional) people return to bad pre-pandemic habits, even if to protect the home's occupants from the common cold. What is really inconsiderate and unprofessional, is that Ms. Flamenco had disturbed suspected asbestos containing materials by scraping and cutting away material from parts of a furnace and its ducts, leaving the furnace and ducts out-of-order, i.e. if no asbestos or other harmful materials were found, the furnace and ducts could not be safely and effectively used without first repairing them. Leaving carcinogenic materials exposed (cutting, scraping or otherwise removing and exposing asbestos) to those who live at the work site, is hazardous and unprofessional and should never be done this way. Exposing harmful materials puts people and animals at risk of exposure to carcinogens and asbestosis causing particles! Asbestos sample takers should take measures to seal or otherwise cover, exposed asbestos containing materials (when they are through sampling them), to protect home occupants. This experience was a wake-up call to how incompetent workers can make a bad situation, worse! read more

We used Scope for smoke remediation after the Eaton Fire. They came out quickly the Monday after the fire and were communicative about the process and how things would work with insurance and answered our many many questions. I could easily get ahold of Veronika and run through any questions and concerns, and during such a stressful time I was so glad to talk to someone who would really hear me out. Scope did a cleaning of the house and replaced attic insulation and cleaned our ducts. We got our lead levels tested before moving back in with our baby and were very happy with the results. I cannot say enough about this company. They came out to find a moldy smell. Pete checked ceiling and walls with his meter, but the dang attic access was to small for him to go into attic. So Alex came out the next morning. He went into attic then under house. He found a rusted out piece of gal pipe that was leaking under the house in the area of the kitchen. We are getting that taken care of immediately. Alex even texted us the pictures he took from in attic and under house. What a wonderful pair of men. Polite and personable. My parents were out of town for two weeks. I was watching the house and noticed a bad leak that was continually getting worse. I contacted Scope and they said they could send someone out right away. They were amazing and did send someone out promptly. Since I don't know much about this stuff, they walked me through what they were going to do. They literally do from A to Z. They took care of everything, the mold, the leak, drying, the installation of the whole new bathroom. I love the way the new bathroom has turned out. It is almost finished. Also, I work in customer service. I know all about giving good service and how important it is to promptly call customers back. They were on top of it. He was great, he set up a time for the next day for a technician to come out and inspect. Later that week they did the remediation exactly how they said they would. Scope Environmental did mold remediation work for me in my bedroom a few months ago. The technician came out and I showed him the area that needed to be cut out and remediated. I was given an estimate for the work and agreed. They send you so many pages of a contract that you feel like you need an attorney to sign it. That was the first thing. Then, when they did the work, they didn't cover the whole area I had shown them. Finally, I got them to come back and re-do it, as the technician admitted it was his mistake. At first, the office tried to charge me extra, but after several discussions agreed to honor the original price. Then, when the tent was taken down, I saw that they had used another kind of tape over the painter's tape to hold the tent up, and it pulled away paint from the wall, so I had to have the whole room repainted. The same thing happened on my hardwood floor -- there are now two large strips of stain missing from the floor. I didn't bother calling them because I knew they weren't going to take responsibility for the extra paint and damage to my floors. I had to give them only two stars because all in all it was not a great experience dealing with them. read more

This review is overdue! We found mold in my mother's apartment due to a leaky dishwasher back in September. The mold had spread and was affecting my mom's health (she was feeling lightheaded, dizzy, nauseous, had daily headaches, etc.). I called another company with a 5 star rating before calling Scope Environmental. They were unprofessional and over-priced (ran over an hour late to our scheduled inspection then changed our first appt without even telling us!!) :| It wasn't until I called to check if the crew was running on time that the inspector told me they had rescheduled me for the afternoon, without checking with me to see if that even worked with my schedule. -__- LOL. I took the afternoon off and called Scope to schedule a 2nd opinion for that same afternoon, despite the 1st company being there and having started prepping the containment. At this point, I'd been going back and forth with the first company and had wasted over a week trying to get them to come in and start the remediation process and was OVER IT. So! I called Scope and they sent someone out within the hour. Peter shows up and he basically did what took the first company over a week to do that SAME DAY!! He was completely prepared and accommodating beyond belief. He was professional, gave me a quote that was a fraction of the 1st company's and completed the entire remediation process in 10 days and that was only due to the Labor Day weekend. For a bathroom the-tile: Tile isn't lined up and they didn't use any plastic shields to protect the connected bedroom which was covered in a fine white dust (not great for lung health)! Had a flood caused by a washing machine malfunction which required replacing the existing wood floors in our entire single story ranch style home. Me moved contents and ourselves out on a Saturday and Scope started the demo on Monday. Less than a month later the job (almost 3,000 sq ft of flooring - mostly wood with some tile - was completed). Looks fantastic. Our insurance adjuster was also very good and she commented that Scope was the best restoration contractor she has ever worked with, stating "we worked well together, they were helpful and cooperative and a big reason why the job went so well and so quick. Very frustrated with scope environmental. They started working on our property through an insurance claim early part of November. Then they stopped, waited for insurance to be approved, which it did, and now they've been dragging their feet over and over again to get back to our property which is partially left in construction mode. Very difficult and uncomfortable to have to live with part of your property that's been torn apart waiting for it to be put back together. They have not made any attempt to contact us, we have had to continually call them and ask when they would return to the job. Besides of worst customer service and ripping off poor clients, they tend to accuse people easily. In my last communication with them (I also included that in my review here-see it in the picture), I stated that, since we are not happy with the overcharge, we wish them to pay every penny they overcharged us in the most painful manner. Do NOT trust to this company. The company owner is a hypocrite. He already deleted my previous review. These people charged us for just setting a dehumidifier and couple of fans in our house for 24hours for $1200. Someting that you can rent from homedepot for 1/5 of that price. Our washer overflowed in our laundry room and as a result it started leaking from lundryroom to downstairs. The technition came by and he quoted for $1500 to do drying, demo, and restoration and painting. The company owner is a conman who did not call me despite all of my follow up with their technition and customer service.
