This was my first time hiring an asbestos abatement company. I am a physician and I am obviously very careful when it comes to health concerns. It was my mistake that I chose them because their pricing was more reasonable that other quotes I got. From the get-go they were not very organized and responsive with a lot of disconnect from different crews namely from the sales agent Bruce to the actual supervisor and workers doing the actual work. I requested the agent to have the supervisor call me the weekend before the start of work so I can give them proper instructions of what I need done so other areas of the condo are not contaminated and I never got a call despite me calling back on Friday afternoon to ask for the name and number of the supervisor from the front office. I left a message for the supervisor and they never called back. Finally another supervisor calls me early morning on Monday to tell me that they are at the job site already. I had to delay going to work to go meet with them and let them inside. I told them how to take precaution so the HVAC unit within the abatement area is not contaminated by properly sealing the intake and output ports as ducts were supposed to also be removed to access the asbestos ceiling better. I left and I waited for 2 days until they showed me an air sample and cleared me to go back in. I went back inside and I saw some dust on the dropped ceiling grid and what looked like remaining popcorn ceiling along parts of the abatement area. I hired an independent testing company to come asses if going into the unit is safe, and after they evaluated, they showed me some asbestos debris left on top and inside the output opening of HVAC unit as well as popcorn ceiling on the ceiling that was not removed completely. They tested the debris and the ceiling material and it was positive for asbestos. They recommended a procedure 5 and told me that this company did a horrible job in abatement and I should do a procedure 5 cleaning and testing again by another trustworthy company. I called them back and they were embarrassed by the report of the testing company. They came and put up the containment again and removed the remaining popcorn ceiling and asbestos debris left on the HVAC unit and supposedly vacuumed the carpets to clean any potential contamination and left the containment up do I can hire someone else to contain and seal and fix the remaining damage on the ceiling. I bought a asbestos rated respirator to wear it when I go inside the unit as I did not trust their work any longer. I hired a regular contractor to fix the contain the ceiling damage. Then I emailed universal abatement back to come and do a procedure 5 cleaning as was recommended by post abatement testing I paid for, since they were at fault by leaving friable asbestos debris around and taking out the containment plastic and giving me a clearance and thus potentially exposed the whole condo as well as myself to asbestos fibers; however they stopped responding to my email to try to ignore their way out of the liability that they have created. At this point, I'm considering taking them to court and I might hire a lawyer to sue them for potential health hazard risk that they exposed me to. Think twice about hiring Universal and Teeco group as supposedly they are part of a larger parent company. read more

This company has some employers/collaborators that are unprofessional and rude beyond imagination. My asbestos/pop corn ceiling removal had been scheduled about 16 days after I spoke with them because they required 2 weeks to get all the paperwork ready to start the job. I had just recently moved into this apartment and I had boxes and luggages that I kept unpacked waiting for them to do the job. I expressly asked if it was ok if there was that some furniture and boxes inside the apartment while that did the job. The reply was that it was OK to have stuff in my apartment, and to just make sure we would push everything against the walls so that the workers had the space to work. I also said that the bed in the bedroom was pretty big and taking up a pretty big part of the room, and he said that it was ok because they could work around the frame. We cleared everything that we could and pushed everything against the wall as instructed, so that there was lots and lots of space in the middle. but when the day finally came and the team got to my apartment, they said they couldn't do the job because the apartment needed to be absolutely completely clear, with no furniture at all inside. They said that this person who told us it was ok to have stuff inside had already given this wrong information to costumers before, and then left without doing the job and without even be willing to let us clear at least the living room on the spot. When we confronted the person who gave us the wrong information he refused to take responsibility and blamed us because we had left stuff inside the apartment. His rudeness on the phone was only surpassed by his hypocrisy. Despite this, we still wanted to get this job done and were willing to reschedule if he offered us a little discount. He refused, said he didn't want to do the job for us anymore at all, and hung up on us. read more

I can't say how good this company is. I am a hvac contractor and thru my research I came across this company and gave them a call. I spoke to Bruce and told him I needed some asbestos ducts removed. He quoted me over the phone, his price was very competitive and within our budget from 3 other companies. Paid by phone and they also provided a certification of the work. read more

Bruce at Universal Abatement was very helpful in getting our popcorn ceilings removed in our newly purchased condo in a timely and professional manner. The crew was great and even though we had a problem the day of - with our own HOA in letting the guys enter - they were patient in waiting and started promptly after having to wait an hour and a half. Universal Abatement Services returned the quote in a timely manner with all insurance documents, licenses, and certifications. This company named me additionally insured without hassle, upon request, which I have found difficult in the past with other contractors. Workers arrived as agreed and completed work quickly. The air was tested following work, and the fiber results came back well within acceptable limits (meaning air was cleaner than required). Company left air scrubber in house for over a week to give time for results to come back in, without additional charge. Additionally, workers had extra time after removing transite pipe and ducts with asbestos wrapping, so they scrapped the asbestos mastic off the vent pipes for me, free of charge! I was blatantly ignored by another company that came out wasted my time and never showed up or call again. Mark the owner of UAS came out he was professional, sincere, honest, honorable, polite, and competent regarding the asbestos abatement process. Universal Abatement Systems just completed asbestos & lead abatement work at our home in San Pedro in preparation for a major renovation project. I dealt with Mark Newton from the first contact for a bid through the completion of the abatement today. He identified discrepancies in the independent testing company's survey report that had to be corrected before the report could be submitted to the SCAQMD. Once the report was corrected, he scheduled the work promptly. When UAS commenced the abatement work (on the scheduled date), additional asbestos contamination was discovered in the vent insulation that was omitted from the testing survey report (an omission that was acknowledged by the testing company). Despite this additional work, UAS completed the abatement work on schedule and at a price I felt was fair. Is difficult to judge the true quality of a company when everything goes smoothly. It's when unforeseen problems arise that really good companies shine. I would recommend Universal Abatement Services to prospective clients without reservation. read more
