Super expensive - $75 for shellac and it chipped literally 3 days later! First and last time at the Ten Spot

Quick and convenient manicures and pedicures. I work close by, and sometimes finish work late (6pm or 8pm). I only paint my nails for special occasions. I get bothered when there is a small chip in my polish and will remove it all if that happens - I'm very picky. TenSpot on Roncy has been very accommodating. Booking an appointment tends to be easy, though requires a little bit of phone tag. All the aestheticians that have helped me with my nails were excellent. I went there wanting to get a gel refill which they said they didn't do. So I asked for a full gel removal and they said they also didn't do that. How can you be a nail salon and not offer removal services? How do they have reoccurring customers then? So everyone does their nails there and then have to get it removed somewhere else? Lol. Today was my first time at any Ten Spot location, and after my experience today I will definitely be going back. I booked a mani/quickie pedi pretty last minute through the website, which was super convenient. When I arrived for my appointment I was greeted warmly by the staff and felt very welcome from the minute I walked in. The place was immaculate and they had a great selection of polishes to choose from. Emily did both of my treatments. She did a great job cleaning/shaping my nails and I really enjoyed chatting with her while she worked. Overall, a very relaxing and pleasant experience. I would recommend! read more

Waxing - I'd love to say is the best. I would give you 10 stars if available. Manicures/Pedicures - not so much. I hate the product they use gel they have their. I have gotten a manicure and pedicure and you could exactly see that it wasn't cured properly, there were lighter areas around the edges of my nails/toenails and it didn't last for longet than a week. The nail tehnician tried to work with the colour and I've put my hands and feet in the machine mutiple times and just wasn't the greatest. I did mention at the start of the apt that I hate the products they will use for my manicure and pedicure, as I never had a good experience with gel opi. I have always had an amazing experience with CND Shellac and more recently bioseaweed gel. I will not be back for manicures and pedicures however I will be back for waxing. Their facility is very clean, staff are very friendly and professional. I really enjoyed my waxing and will be back for that. :) read more

I've been to other 10 Spot locations, but there's something about the gentle Roncesvalles vibe and the staff I met here that made this my favourite salon in Toronto. I am not a person who feels I "have" to wax, and I usually demand my partner pay for it when I do. I love the tidiness, but SH** GO$$AMN it hurts so much AUGH WHY. This was my first visit anywhere where my eyes didn't even water. I didn't imagine punching my partner, and I didn't let out a single baby seal sound. What is this magic!? 1. Michelle waxed me in about 7 minutes, so efficiently and cheerfully I actually laughed *during* it. 2. They use a magic fancy 'hard wax' that only sticks to hair and is womankind's greatest innovative gift, probably, until male birth control hits the market. It's more expensive than other places, but honestly, avoiding hair removal trauma is worth it. A monthly maintenance package takes off $10, too. BONUS: TV in the waxing room (Fresh Prince). 10/10 Spots. heh. read more

Went in today for a quickie mani pedi. It was my first time at any Ten Spot location. They let me book last minute and, even though I was there close to closing, still took time to shape and clean my nails well. I'm really happy with both how my hands and feet turned out (and I'm really picky about nail shaping). As a bonus, this place is probably the most sanitary nail salon I've ever been to. If it's not a stainless steel (and therefore sterilizable) instrument, it's disposable and they only use it once. Only downside is that I couldn't find the exact nude colour I was looking for, but if that's the only downside then it's a pretty good place! read more

I popped into this location this afternoon to see if I could get a quick pedicure. According to the website, the business model is "anti-spa". I think the woman at the reception desk hasn't been trained properly. I received a very chilly and unfriendly reception as if I, a prospective new customer, was disrupting her day. That is not anti-spa. Turns out they weren't able to take a walk-in. And there were only 2 customers on-site at the time - one getting a manicure and one getting a pedicure. Yet, there were pedicure stations for another 3 - 4 customers. It would seem that they were only staffed to accommodate appointments. Again - that is not anti-spa. The other curious thing is that their prices were not posted on the wall, nor did they have a brochure that I could pick up and read to find out what the prices were. When I asked I was rudely re-directed to the website. Again that is not anti-spa. It seems some people have had a good experience at this location. I doubt I will check them out again. read more

Eyebrow waxing: Lovely staff and ultra clean space but the tech didn't do what I asked for; which was just a clean up AROUND my brows. Instead, she removed some of my brows( reshaped) and very little clean up around them. The lighting is dim in the back room ( for ambiance? ) so it looked fine when she showed me but I had to finish cleaning them up when I got into better lighting and now need to grow out the area(s) she removed? I was pleased with the service but will not go back for a pedicure. Take a good look at the bench seating over the foot basins. That's about the least relaxing design made. With other salons offering reclining massage chairs I'd rather choose comfort over stylish decor. read more

Had a pedicure two days ago and now have bandages on both feet! Not enough care was taken during the removal of my calluses (which are minor). The result was bleeding sore feet. The polish looks great though. I will not return and may never have another salon pedicure! read more

So this is an updated review: the first one is below. After my not-so stellar experiences, the owner of the Roncy 10 spot was kind enough to offer me a free gel mani to give them a shot again. The good: they offer tea and coffee and took extra time to ensure that my nails were cured this time. So far no chips. The gel seems to be lasting and doesn't look bad (perhaps I'm just really spoiled with NYC gel manis). This time they were pretty careful and wanted to give me a better experience which was really appreciated. The bad: this is more of a ten spot policy issue- I still think that they shouldn't charge for shellac/gel removal if you're getting another mani there- I haven't seen this elsewhere and I think it's problematic because it's probably not a great idea to keep getting gel manis all the time- sometimes nails need a break. In general, it's probably better than other nails salons in Toronto and there is more of a customer service orientation here. ------------------------------------------ My experience with The Ten Spot on Roncy was less than ideal. I've visited twice so far and won't be coming back, nor will I recommend it to anyone. While the place is nice and clean and they offer different choices for coffees and teas, they're ultimately over-priced for the services they offer and frankly just not very good value given that the two manis I've had there have chipped (badly) within two days. The first experience was better: I had a gel mani and simple pedi, I was pretty happy with the results though their prices are pretty high. Fast forward to 4 days later and my gel mani has already chipped in several places! I've never had that happen- my gel/shellac ALWAYS lasts at least 2 weeks. I scheduled a follow up to get it removed and to do a regular mani- they charged me $10 for removal, even though I got my gel done there and was getting a new mani with them. I've never seen any other place do that- when I tried to then ask for gel (though I knew the results wouldn't be great) to avoid the ten dollar charge, they said they were too busy. My second quickie mani was pretty awful, the girl messed up and had to redo a nail and was pretty rough with the filing. The final result was pretty sloppy given the high price tag and again chipped badly within 3 days. This is frankly very bad customer service on their part given how unhappy I was with my first manicure and I think it's outrageous that they get away with these prices given the subpar manis they give - you'd likely get similar results from a much cheaper nail place, but they probably wouldn't charge you for shellac removal. I will never EVER come back here, nor will I recommend it to anyone. Not only are the prices absolutely outrageous, the quality of the service is complete garbage. I've been here twice now, once for a regular mani and most recently for a regular mani. This is what I got for a $65 gel manicure (that's including tip): literally none of my nails were either the same shape or the shape I requested, the colour was streaky (the technician did not do a third coat of a light colour, despite me asking), the actual polish job was a mess (there was flooding on nearly every finger), and the cuticle work was sloppy. Moreover, the technician dipped used tools with nail/cuticle clippings on them into the soaking bowl WHILE MY HAND WAS STILL IN IT. AND the polish started chipping literally the next day. There are a million other places in the city that are FAR less expensive and just as clean (probably more so - I've never in my life had a technician dip tools into a soaking bowl before - super gross) where you can a much nicer manicure done. read more

I won't go anywhere else for pedicures ever again. Been coming to this location for about a year and I am never disappointed. Super clean, with very friendly staff, and extremely user friendly online appointment booking. Particular shout-out to Nelia who did my "quickie pedi" today. Her service was above and beyond - perfectly attuned to my experience, thinking five steps ahead, attending to my unsaid needs, and gave me a GREAT pedi. I made the idiot mistake of bumping my gorgeous toes after I left and came back to just ask to borrow the polish to fix them myself, but Nelia promptly sat me down and re-did the two affected nails without hesitation. Totally professional and honestly more than I expected - seriously would have been fine to just touch them up myself - but Nelia wanted to help. This was my first experience with Ten Spot and I don't think I'll be returning. I treated two friends to manicures from this location as birthday treats. Both were happy with their manicures and service, which is why I'm giving this place 3 stars instead of 2. However, I was not happy with this place. I made the bookings, but when we went in (a little earlier than our appointment time) I was largely ignored. Two manicurists set up two stations and got started on my friends. Meanwhile I sat between the two pairs waiting for my own manicurist. When she did arrive, she didn't introduce herself, just got started (without asking me for any personal preferences, etc). She also didn't ask if I wanted anything to drink (my friends were offered tea and water by their manicurists). I was going on vacation in a few days and wanted white nails. They found the pure white coloured nail polish (which had not been on display). This pleases me very much as it was what I wanted. When my nails were drying, I was again largely ignored by my manicurist while the other two came to check up on my friends. The check out was fine however, a few days later I went to Mexico. Within a day of my being in Mexico (ocean and pool) my white nails turned blue. Here's the best part: I got my pedicure done at my usual mani/pedi spot on the Danforth. My toes stayed pristine white throughout my entire trip and after j got home. Therefore, the quality of the nail polish or the base/top coats aren't great at Ten Spot and for the price I paid my service was subpar. This is my first time writing a yelp review because I am so upset at how I was treated at the ten spot. I usually got to buffer nails on Ossington and love it but the ten spot is right at the top of my street so I thought I would try it. They are located directly beside a dog groomers and I brought in my very well behaved maltese poodle after I picked her up from getting groomed. I have taken my dog to various high end stores and salons which is very much the norm in certain areas of Toronto where I have lived (high park, the beach) and have never had a problem. After I had already picked a colour and was sitting down to have my nails I was approached by the woman at the front desk, who had said nothing when I came in, and told that they do not allow dogs. I was very surprised because I always see little dogs in salons and spas and told her I have never heard of a nail salon not allowing dogs. I was told that I must be used to going to cheap asian places, which was not only offensive but racist. I left and will never go back. I guess they really do not want customers because I regularly get my nails done (and no never at cheap places) and have a ton of other girlfriends in the area who do as well, and I will be telling everyone not to try this place and stick to trekking downtown. If they do not want dogs they should have a clear sign at the door and not wait until someone has already started to get their nails done to tell them. Also, it is probably best not to be rude and make offensive comments! I also want to add that it appears the the two good reviews for this place seem fake and probably written by the owner. read more

I have been to The 10 Spot now at least once a month since it has opened it's doors on Ronci. The services have been outstanding facials to pedicures and the estheticians have always been friendly and hard working. I took my mother and mother in-law to The 10 Spot for Mother's Day pedicures. We had a fabulous time and the pedicures were excellent. Very clean, the employees were lovely to chat with, not to mention they all brought in home-made sweets and baked goods for the special day. This is the second 10 Spot I've been to and I've been to this location twice. Once for a manicure and once for a bikini wax. I have to agree with the other reviewer who said it is WAY over-priced for what you get. There is absolutely no attention to detail here. It is all about getting the customer in and out as quickly as possible so they can get the next one in. This is not an upscale spa. It is very clean, I will say that, but for the price I paid I would not expect to have to go home and pluck several missed hairs myself. The woman who did my bikini wax didn't even check to see if she got everything. She waxed each area once and that was it. I wasn't even given the option to look it over myself. I also find it outrageous that they charge $10 to remove shellac. I didn't have my nails done there for this reason. Everyone is very friendly and, as I said, the place is very clean but I will only return if I'm extremely desperate. For the most part I can do just as good a job at home. read more
