I got a facial and paraffin wax and it was a nice, relaxing experience. Julie was very friendly and has a gentle touch. No parking available except street or GreenP lots and they fill up fast, even during the week, so give yourself plenty of time to hunt down a spot. My appointment was a bit last minute, there was a cancellation and Julie squeezed me in. So I was a bit flustered when I arrived. But Julie was very nice and accommodating to let me go move my car from street (an hour is not enough time for the appt) to a GreenP. I had to sit and wait for someone to leave for a spot. Thank you, Julie, for being so patient and still giving me a full spa experience even though we started a little late. read more

Julia really took the time to examine my skin and talk about my skincare routine. She was so friendly and kind. The spa also has good COVID protocol and I was provided a new clean mask after my facial so I wouldn't dirty up my skin again. The location is also extremely subway accessible! I just moved to toronto trying to find a new skin care place to regularly go to. They responded very quickly after I inquired about booking for a acne extraction and chemical peel facial. Then when I arrived for the appointment there was some miscommunication I believe. I had filled out this form and mentioned to her that I had been on accutane roughly a month before i came in that day. She informed me she wouldn't risk preforming the normal peel because of that which is fine but I went into the appointment thinking i was still going to get my acne extracted still. she preformed a hydrating facial which i didnt really want saying the accutane is what caused my dry skin so that facial was best for my skin but ive been having alot of oily skin problems and small breakouts i wanted to address first which she didnt really extract. After i paid, i tried to clarify about it she kind of got defensive. She did offer me a discount and for me to come in and get my acne extracted the day after but I didnt really like the way she responded to me so I decided to cancel that. read more

I was home for the May long weekend so I dropped by Julia's (where I've been coming sparsely whenever I am in town, since 2012) and was greeted by a new esthetician (Chinese descent, young, said she was new). She was friendly and sufficiently experienced however she went over the same spot multiple times, not realizing that a tweezer would have done the work much faster. I get Brazilians regularly (she even commented that I must do this often since there was "not much to do") so I am in and out of a session in a whiz but yesterday's session was longer than my usual since she was having too much fun with the wax and did not end up even touching the tweezer at all. I remember sessions with Julia herself which took about 1/2 the time with perhaps even greater result - but for that reason I guess she is the boss lady. Overall my experience here has always been positive. Of course price has gone up a few dollars over the years but what hasn't in life... $39 for a Brazilian before tip and taxes isn't bad. Just half star less for the chair that moves quite a lot (she warned me but even then it was a bit dangerous when you first hop on and off) and a half star less for the multiple strip on and off. But I will be back when I'm next in Toronto! read more

I don't understand all the positive reviews. I wanted to love this place because she uses Dermatologica but it was the worst facial I have ever had. She left the room at least 5 times during the treatment. It was so nosy in the waiting room and I could hear everything from the treatment space. The phone was ringing off the hook!!! AND SHE WOULD LEAVE TO GO ANSWER IT! Are you kidding me?! Absolutely terrible facial. I really only review restaurants on Yelp but I am breaking that rule for Julie. She deserves all these 5-star reviews she's getting and I want to add to that! I am one of those poor souls who was left all dazed and confused when Asma of Sugar Sugar closed her doors (I miss you, Asma! Hope you're doing well in your new endeavor!). In my hunt for a new place to go, I have been to a really sketchy salon in Mississauga (which, for a lack of a better term, was not clean) and this place run by really intimidating Italian women (nothing against Italian women, but being the only non-Italian there made me feel really out of place and uncomfortable as they were all speaking in Italian). I even ventured out East into this high-end waxing place that reeked of pretension. Ugh. Anyway, cut to my happy ending. I found Julie. She is warm, friendly and makes you feel comfortable immediately. She is good at what she does too. Her spa is meticulously clean, always smells very nice and an altogether wonderful place to be in (considering I go there for waxing - which is not one of the most pleasant things in the world - that's saying something). Julia is by far the best esthetician I have ever been to. Her prices are very reasonable and her services are much better quality than what other spas offer. Her waxing services are quick, hygienic (no double-dipping!), and as painless as one could hope! I had my first facial with her today and it was very thorough and relaxing. Afterwards I told her I'd buy whatever she recommended but she just gave me a bunch of samples and said that I should try them out and come back in a few weeks to make sure that I don't waste money on anything that could irritate my super sensitive skin. Julia is awesome and I think I'm in love. Seriously, if I could find a man who would give me a cranial massage like that, I'd marry him. I booked a facial there which I badly needed after a rough and stressful summer in grimy, sweaty conditions (this sounds like the lead up to a salon-based porno but I promise it was just working at a campground, nothing exotic). I opted for the Pumpkin Pro facial because I really needed all the goo of the summer good and gone. And also, who doesn't love Pumpkin, eh? I always wanted a facial to match my latte. Whoops, there's another dirty joke in there somewhere. I'm scared of looking like a peeled tomato with microdermabrasion, but Julia told me it wouldn't be like that. Maybe next time. Anyway, on a whim I threw in a mani-pedi, which sounds so Sex and the City even to say, but what the heck, it was my bonus money and I could live a fantasy if I want, right? And it was less than I was used to paying on the West Coast. The facial was really everything it was supposed to be. I have never felt that clean in my LIFE, and it didn't sting at all. I really do feel that it not only dealt with all the debris of the season, but left my skin much healthier without irritating it. People gave me compliments all week, saying I looked like I was having a great day and you know, if you tell me I look great, I'm going to be having a great day, so they were right! The manicure and pedicure were also great, and came with a mini massage; I went for the Deluxe because why not, and it had the salt scrub to get rid of all the dead skin and goo. Great experience! I had leg waxing and a brazilian done. Julia makes you feel totally comfortable, the place is super clean and you can tell she has high standards. The wax itself was pretty painless and she did a really thorough job, going in with tweezers after to make sure everything was out. I think I have finally found THE waxing place. This hidden gem in a busy neighbourhood is my best discovery this week! Yelper's aren't wrong rating it 5 stars. I went for a Pedi ($35 for a spa pedi, $25 for regular) and it was one of the best ones I've ever had. She was so thorough it makes me think all my previous pedis were just doing it wrong! (Compare with pedi's at spas and salons for $50-60!) She starts with a sea salt scrub, then you soak your feet. She'll take off remaining polish, then file. Then rubs moisturizer and puts your feet in bag full of parrafin and in to fuzzy slippers. I've never had the lotion on before, and she told me this is the proper way so it makes your feets super soft. She also waxed the little hairs off my toes without asking. then a very thorough cleaning and scrubbing. Then massage and polish. I was there for a full 1hr and 15 mins. I already booked a manicure. I would imagine a non-spa pedicure is just a cleaning, emery and polish change. Okay, now , this is my secret. Go away :) read more

I had been debating getting defuzzed down there for a while because of the pain that is to be expected in getting a Brazilian. After reading all the positive reviews and seeing Julia's prices, I decided to go to her for my first one. I booked an appointment through her website in the late evening, and she attempted to call me within the hour, which I didn't expect, so I missed the call. She then emailed me to confirm the appointment. Julia is very prompt in getting back to you! Julia's Esthetics is located above Thumbs Up Korean Fast food (restaurant with the big red sign) at the corner of Palmerston and Bloor. When I walked into the place which by the way, is very clean and tidy, Julia was there to greet me and offered me a beverage. She is the only esthetician here and it seems she sees one person at a time, so this is a great place to go if you want privacy. Julia was awesome in getting me to relax. She kept me in conversation through the most painful parts of the wax, and once she sensed I was relaxed, she let me be in the calm and not awkward silence. After it was done, she gave me advice on how to prevent ingrown hair and she answered questions I had. Julia made my first Brazilian experience as easy and comfortable as it could be, and I couldn't ask for more. I will definitely be back. read more

Julia is phenomenal!!! I have very reactive, sensitive skin and after I recently had a microdermabrasion at another place thanks to one of those group buy dealies, I found out how VERY VERY VERY dry my face had become. Now, I didn't think I was going to be a woman who'd be obsessively worried about looking older... but it turns out, I DO!!! (It probably doesn't help that I had my birthday this week.) So I frantically turned to Yelp earlier this week to find a good, affordable esthetician. And lemme tell ya, I found one in Julia. I TOO THANK YOU, YELP! I emailed her and she got back to me right away. We booked for today for a hydrating facial. Someone else talked about her ghost-like hands and that is all I could think about as I lay back and experienced the magic of those hands. She also wrapped my hands in paraffin wax so that my hands were lucky enough to get spoiled, too! After letting her know the problems with my skin, she quickly went to work and not a single product she used reacted with my skin. That is unheard of! I think she put me in a trance because before I knew it, an hour and a half had passed by. She finished with a "Look! Your skin is glowing!" And indeed it is -- something that I've never had happen before. I'm really happy to agree with all the other reviewers who gave Julie five stars. I went to her for a Sensitive Skin Facial and I now know why people love her. (I now also know why people go for facials on a somewhat regular basis! The last facial I had was fifteen years ago; if that one had been as wonderful as the one Julie gave me, I would be a spa regular.) Julie made me feel very welcome and comfortable; during the facial, she also spoke with me about the reasons my skin reacts the way it does. She's clearly an expert but not condescending at all. I felt as if she was just happy to help people look and feel great. From booking the appointment through leaving the salon after my session, Julie was warm and attentive. She did an amazing job on my eczema-prone skin for, as others have pointed out, a very fair price. For years I've gone to HORRIBLE HORRIBLE "estheticians". No longer do you have to go to one of your own to avoid the shame and humiliation. Go to Julia's now! She has ghost hands - you can barely feel them on your skin. Everything she did from the time I walked into her walk up spa was professional. The wax was at a good temperature and she learned from her one and only mistake of trying to wax my sideburn all at once. She never made one rude comment about me, which if you're getting your FACE waxed is a blessing. The next day I went for a facial. Holy hell! It was the most beautiful and relaxing experience ever. One again Julia's ghost likehands worked their magic - spreading lotions, masks, extracting, massaging. Oh the massaging. You may look at her prices and go "eek!" but trust me, she is worth it! Came to Julia's Esthetics based on the positive reviews I read and I'm so glad I did! My eyebrows needed a major clean up for the holidays. I came with my friend right the time we booked. She took her time and made sure it was even! And she even cleaned up my forehead for me, since I am a hairy person. Eyebrow waxing only costed $10 + tax and tips (still under $15). Julia is an extremely friendly person and a funny person! Absolutely love my brows! After reading all these reviews, I decided to book an appointment with Julia. She was very friendly upon arrival and offered me something to drink. She was ready for me within a few minutes. She asked me if I've had a Brazilian done before and I mentioned it was my first time and she was great! Made me feel so comfortable and explained the process to me and even told me the steps on how to take care of my skin post waxing. She is so good at what she does I'm impressed. It's not a pleasant wax but she chatted with me throughout the process and was extremely FAST and precise. Also she doesn't double dip which I find extremely important. I love Julia!!! I have been seeing her for over 2 years after getting a very welcomed recommendation from a former roommate's cousin. Why do I love her? - She's quick. Waxing (especially particular areas) is not exactly the most fun to be had on a Saturday morning, but the whole process takes about 15 minutes. - She's so personable. She remembers and always asks me about how work is going and how my friends are. The only place I will near my private area. I've been visiting Julie for a few years now and she is very kind and very sweet. The salon is extremely clean and neat, has a very zen vibe. She was so popular that she had to hire help, Gabriella, who is also very sweet. I do prefer Julie doing my waxing because I like talking to her and feel more comfortable, but that is just a personal preference and not anything else. Gabriella is very good as well (I do full body wax - armpits, full legs and full Brazilian). In my opinion, the best place in the city for waxing - I can't comment on any other services as this is all I get done. read more

I started going to Julia's Esthetics about a year ago after my original waxer closed her business. Julie and Gabriella are awesome! They are both very welcoming and makes me feel very comfortable when I am getting waxed. I referred some friends to Julie and for each friend, Julie gives me a referral discount. You can book an appointment with them via phone or email. Julie responses really quickly via email. Just a tip, they do get booked quickly so it's best to book a week in advance. Gabrielle just informed me that she does sugaring so I am excited to give this a try as this method is supposed to only strip the hair as oppose to traditional waxing that strips hair and top layer of skin. read more

It was time yet again for my annual leg waxing. I was dreading it. I nearly cancelled my appointment, even after Julia did such a great job of squeezing me into her tight schedule. I had visions of having one part of one leg waxed before I was reduced to tears and just vowed to shave the rest of the hairy mess off my calves. But then when I hopped on the table, Julia's magical touch made everything painless. Keep in mind that I was dreading this so much I nearly cancelled it ten minutes before showing. Painless! Really! I am not sure how she does it, but after the first strip stripped, I knew why I had gone back to Julia. Julia is also just an amazing person all around. She recalled my previous annual appointment and also identified me from my Yelp review AND even identified what I was wearing during the last visit AND what we talked about. Over a year later! ATTN: LONG BUT NECESSARY - AVOID THIS WAXOLOGIST I'm all for giving places a chance, and I hate giving negative news, but my experience at Julia's Esthetics was so terrible I just had to create an account. This is my first ever yelp review, and for the love of god I hope it saves someone. My apologies for it being so long, but I just hope no one else has as bad of a waxing experience as I had. I've had better Bikini waxes at nail salons. I read all other yelp reviews before making my appointment, hoping I would have a great experience like others - sadly, I did not. I arrived early, was greeted and didn't even have to wait (yay!). I was getting a Leg and Deep Bikini waxing. Pretty simple. I've had many before, and know the drill. I cannot remember my waxologists name (something that starts with a K? Possibly Middle Eastern?), but she had dark shoulder-length hair and glasses. Her name was not Julia or Julie, or any name others have mentioned, but let me tell you, she was terrible. Due to my hair being too short on my legs for wax, we proceeded to my Bikini. After explaining to me what a "Deep Bikini" was, I agreed to it, explaining I would like a 'landing strip' left (just taking the sides down). Clearly, she did not listen, and once reaching this area, proceeded to wax it all off. No landing strip was left, as the wax was already on and needed to be removed. Throughout this experience, the wax was not warm enough (despite me telling her it needs to be heated - she ignored me), she kept spreading small thin strips of moderately warm wax, dragging my skin and thus not removing any hair when pulled (some areas needed to go over 2 or 3 times) thus resulting in blood vessels breaking, and skin tearing. I have never been so red, raw and had my skin broken. She was clumsy, messy, and wax was all over hair that I did not want removed. She claimed that the "sugar wax" was the best for my bikini, and that she had being waxing for 8 years. It was absolutely horrible - she was absolutely horrible. Never again. read more

I had a wax with Laura that I was very happy with - she did a great job, I never felt rushed and she was easy to talk to which helped distract from the wax. She did a great job and then went over with tweezers for any missed hairs. It was also very reasonably priced (and they give you a stamp card for every 10 you get 1 free). The facilities seemed neat and clean and of course, no double dipping. I definitely be back and will have to try one of the facials! read more

Ok I want to start out by saying I have never written a review before, good or bad, meaning my experience was so good I had to share. Julia was fantastic!!! I went in for my first ever pedicure (I splurged and had the spa version, $35) which included parafin wax treatment, a salt scrub on feet and legs, and all the other good stuff. I really liked that it was just her working there, not like a lot of other salons where they seem really distracted by clients coming in and out. Her work was super professional, plus she's wonderfully friendly and sweet! She even lent me a pair of flip flops cause I came totally unprepared and forgot to wear them. You will not regret going to Julia's. I'm already planning a manicure with her soon - I can't wait! read more

My first visit here was very satisfying. The booking process was very easy and the lady was even very kind to send emails back and forth with me to answer some of my questions. When I got there, no one was at the desk to greet me but I felt very comfortable and just helped myself to whatever I needed. The lady came out from a room followed by a customer, and she was so welcoming. When it was my turn to get ready for my brazilian, I noticed I wasn't provided with any wipes so I had to ask. The wipe I got was dry and I don't know if that was supposed to be like that or old? Anyway, when she entered she used something to clean the area first so maybe that's why she didn't provide any at first. The lady was very thorough with the job (with ingrowns, tweezing short hair, etc), but I wasn't really comforted before the whole process started. She just went. Or even during. Because I had experience with brazilian, I had to comfort and prep myself for the big ouch. Like I had to start a conversation with her and try to sense when she was going to pull the strip and quickly breathe in and breathe out at that timing to ease my pain. Phew... The bed I lied on was also kinda unstable. When I tried to lie down, it rolled to the side a bit....plus, she gives you a napkin to cover the area instead of a towel or some sort that's more comforting. Overall, there were some areas where I felt uncomfortable with but just looking at the job she's done, it was satisfying and I most likely will be back to this place. Julia really spends time taking care of your skin and checks in with you often to see how you are feeling. All The products she used smelled great as well. Julie is a very nice and friendly person.... BUT I went to her salon for a facial and the results were extremely disappointing . In both the written form I filled out at the beginning of the appointment , and in discussion with her , I specified that my one and only concern was the large number of blackheads on my nose that I wanted extracted . The lighting in the room and the washroom was subdued so that I could not really inspect my face after the facial , but when I got home and looked at my nose in my bright powder room light , THERE WERE JUST AS MANY BLACKHEADS AS BEFORE !!! I don't even know what I paid for - the situation feels enormously frustrating and difficult - we are leaving on a trip to see family and friends , and now my nose is still as bad as it was before the so-called extractions . I had an amazing facial by Gabriella today. My skin is dry and sensitive and doesn't like the cold weather very much so I wanted to treat myself to a facial. I have to say it was the best facial I have experienced, so relaxing and thorough. The paraffin hand mask was definitely an extra bonus especially in the winter months when your hands can get so dry. As others mentioned, I was recommended products for my skin type and given a sample but I was never asked or felt like I had to buy anything, making it a perfect experience. I used to go to a high-end facial spa before I discovered this one. Guess what?! I never went back when I tried this one. The services here are great and people are professional and are genuine. They treat me as a person that needs to be pampered rather than another client to sell their products and services. Julie is really nice and sweet. I always look forward to another appointment as she is really wonderful that she melts the stress out of me!
