The staff made sure I was comfortable, asked me every 20 minutes if everything was okay and I am very picky with my nails but they were patient and listened to me. I came here for the first time today for a shellac mani/pedi. Receptionist was lovely. Very professional and helpful. I loved the physical space. Spacious and white. Three big TVs playing Friends. Comfy chairs and clean floors. It was busy but I didn't have to wait long to be seated. I picked my colour from one of the books (they have a lot of selection) and my technician got right to work. She was careful and courteous with my nails. She took her time and made sure they looked great. This place will be my new spot. read more

I was so thrilled to find out that Lux opened a location right near me!! As soon as I walked in I noticed how different (in a good way) this nail place was from all the others in the area. It's clean, bright, chic and welcoming!! I loved how modern the inside was as well the wall of polishes goes on forever ... so many options!!! The staff were wonderful, knowledgable and friendly. Their prices are reasonable and they have lots of technicians so you don't need to book spots so far in advanced. I've been to Lux a couple more times after my first visit - and the reasons why I came back was because of the cheaper prices and their convenient location. Their pedicures are also decent. Management could be a bit better, and overall in terms of skill, what you pay is what you get. I wouldn't say that they do a horrible job - the mani/pedis that I've gotten were just okay. Pedicures were better than manicures. Yes, I have standards (i.e. the shape of my nails) but at the end of the day, you need to make sure that your clients' nails look amazing. Maybe they only really put in effort if the client requests for shellac? I've only ever gotten regular manicures and both times, I've noticed that the top coats would not cover the entirety of my nail surfaces. The last time that I got a manicure, my technician ended up being frustrated when I've pointed out the spots that she's missed and the crooked shape of my nails. She complained about me to another technician, right in front of me, in Vietnamese. I was taken aback by her reaction. When I thanked her for doing my nails, she just ignored me :/ During another appointment, I requested for a mani/pedi. I called ahead of time to request what I wanted. They did not seem to have noted that down and assumed that I wanted just a pedicure. I had to clarify that I called in earlier to request for a mani/pedi, not just a pedi. I ended up being at the salon for almost 2 hours, waiting for one of the technicians to do my nails after getting my pedicure. No technician came during the 45 minutes that I've waited for a technician. I was told that someone would come and that "she was almost done". Apparently only one other technician was "willing to do my nails" because I had "high standards". They thought that I had high standards because I requested for minor touch ups during my pedicure (some nail corners were sharper so I wanted them softened and there were a couple of cuticles they weren't trimmed down enough). It's not like I criticized them for every single thing that they were doing - I just wanted a few touch ups before they did my colour. Is that not unreasonable? At any other nail salon, they usually ask if there was anything else that needed retouching before adding colour. I also never said that I disliked what my technician was doing when he did my pedicure...I don't know why they even said that. I actually thought my technician did a great job at my pedicure! I suppose they're not used to their customers requesting for touch ups. I ended up leaving without my nails done because being there for another hour was just too long of a wait for me and I had other things to get done that day. My last two experiences has left me with a bit of a bad taste in my mouth, all because I requested for touch ups. If I have to come here again, I'd get a pedicure and that's it. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here again - I think I'll just stick to my usual salon. read more

I don't usually go to another nail place other than my regular one, but I was strapped on time, my nails were a disaster and figured I'd try this place out. This place opened up right by my house a few months ago. It's sooooo nice inside! The white theme makes everything seem so open and clean. The workers are super friendly and the prices are appropriate. They're located at the corner of a small plaza. The parking there can be horrendous if you come at a really busy hour. The place is huge. It can definitely accommodate a lot of people. There's many pedi chairs, which is crazy because I've never seen so many in a nail salon before lol. This place only does bio seaweed gel. They also only accept debit or cash, which for me wasn't an inconvenience, but I can see it being a pain for some people. I wouldn't say there's anything outstanding about the place; they get the job done. I would definitely come back again just to sit around inside, it really feels like a relaxing time away from the world. read more

It may be okay for very basic nail/pedi colour and shape up but I would not recommend this place for acrylic nails & especially for designs. I went in a couple of weeks ago my nail tech did not listen to me my nails were wonky and the product was spread choppy .My experience was terrible, my nails were curved !! That is not what you expect for a 75$ set!!!! My nail pads hurt every time they were put in the UV light machine. The acrylic was put on so sloppy it ended up on my finger and my finger ended up having a burn. My nails were in worse shape after I visited the salon than before I even went in LMAO . I have never, absolutely never, had the same experience in any other nail salon. Like I'm not gonna pay for trash service especially when you make me sit there for 2 hours !! Not ok read more

Similar to all the ones in other locations. I just like this one since I won't have to travel downtown anymore. Wide variety of services to choice from other than nails. I got my eyebrows done here. It was good considering I only asked to keep my shape and just have everything cleaned up. They only do body waxing and make clients I believe. Since it just opened up, bring cash just in case because the day I went, their machines weren't up and running yet. read more

Went on New Year's Eve, the place looks nice but the staff rush as don't do a good quality job. I got a shellac manicure and the lady doing it was very rough and ended up cutting the cuticle on my thumb with the sanding drill and it bled. Nail polish application on fingers wasn't great. Seriously 2 locations and I started to dislike their service. I loved their first location. (Since service and ripping customers off by 5$ became norm) This location was different, it's newer it's nicer. BUT their techs talk crap about clients when you ask for simple things such as slimming down or asking for 3rd coat. I've been to this location 3 times. Why did I stop? (Read review on their first location) BUT also the FRONT DESK GIRL ASKED ME TO GO TO THE ATM FOR CASH. your business takes debit, their machine wasn't working due to poor connection. I was $5 short and tip (so let's say 10). Girl asks me for to to the ATM for $10, seriously? I'm not about to pay purchase fees on YOUR BUSINESS' FAULT. I didn't come and I did not pay it. I've been coming to Lux since it opened at this location a few years ago and have never gone anywhere else since. You'll get way better service here compared to the other nail salons in the neighbourhood such as Stiletto Nails. Steer clear of that place. At Lux I get the bio-gel/shellac mani, regular pedi and eyebrow wax. I enjoy this location because I can always get an appointment by calling a day or two ahead, the technicians know what they're doing, and the environment is clean and comfortable. Because Lux is so popular, don't expect to walk in and get served right away. Save yourself the disappointment and call ahead to make an appointment. Don't let the few "haters" on here who have given horrible reviews dissuade you from trying this place out. The staff work really hard to ensure you're satisfied and they do a great job! Went to Lux Nail Bar in Thornhill to get a toe polish change and half an arm wax. When I went to cash out they told me it was an extra five dollars for the arm wax because the girl waxed my hand. I was confused as I have never been charged that before at any other salon before and also I was not told there would be an extra charge. The owner came out to explain to me that hands are an extra charge and she was sorry that I was not notified. Paid my bill, did not tip, and told them I would not be returning, which they did not care. read more

worst nail salon I've ever been to. I told the lady I wanted a shellac (gel polish) colour to grow further my nails out because they were grown out to the point that they'd break in the coming weeks without a shell over them. and what does she do? she filed my nails basically down to the nail bed without asking me. It'll take me weeks for them to grow back to where they were, much less to grow them out like id originally intended. I mentioned a couple times how I was looking for an opaque polish and she pointed one out in the book that looked fine and with a natural finish. the colour I ended up getting on my nails was extremely sheer and sparkly. the lady spent about 5 minutes circling the salon looking for the polish I picked, so I'm about 95% sure I received a different colour than I chose because the other couldn't be located. the actual application of the polish was even worse than the colour. I have multiple air bubbles in my nails. I should've gotten an extra coat given how sheer they are (in certain lighting it looks like I have no nail polish on and you can see the natural nail under, in other lighting it just looks like a sparkly mess). my nails haven't been this short in months, they look disgusting - like I've picked them all off and then had a child apply some sparkly toy polish. I'm now going to have to spend upwards of $40-50 at another nail salon to get fake nails put on because these are just horrible to the point that its embarrassing. I couldn't be more disappointed. none of the staff were particularly nice and they spent the whole service talking amongst themselves in their own language rather than asking if I liked what they were doing. the only good thing about this place is that its clean. read more

Just found this place on a whim and was extremely pleased by my experience. The location is modern and looks very clean and newly decorated. I went here for waxing and saw someone named May. She was amazing. I generally find waxing extremely painful but she was extremely gentle and did an excellent job. The salon is extremely clean and I especially appreciate that they use gloves and new sticks for each application. They also use a sensitive wax which makes a huge difference. I was so impressed by the owner and how professional and helpful he was. In fact is was pouring rain and he offered to walk me to my car. What an all around great experience. I am so happy I found this place! I have only been a few times, but I'm never disappointed. My last trip was actually so enjoyable, the woman who did my nails (Sarah, I believe) was so attentive and genuinely helped me get the exact look/colour I was looking for. I was honestly blown away by her effort. My nails came out better than I imagined. I had shown her a picture and wanted something similar if possible, and she did such a great job to match. I came here Easter weekend as my normal place was closed and needed a fill and wax. I have king natural nails with over lay and she out them shorter than I asked which already upset me. We finished with a bright color sherlac. Two days after this all my nails peeled and lifted. I went to get it fixed and was made worse. Now to the waxing. I get Brazilian waxes for years no issues. This visit seemed ok the lady was very nice and quick which I was happy about until I see the hair was broken not removed now in left with ingrown. I would never recommend this place to anyone. I live close by and came here on a Sunday afternoon for a pedi. $25 for a pedi I find is super affordable especially for the quality and effort Katie put in, which I think they can easily charge $30+ at other salons. Probably the best nail salon in this area for sure. If you bring cash it's tax free which is a bonus. I had a great experience here, I chose an Essie gel polish, which was an additional $3 but will last me a longer time so I was okay with it. Unfortunately it takes a very long time to dry and I left wearing sneakers. A few minutes later I checked my toes and they were all smudged. I ended up calling them to see if I can come back for a redo and they were happy to welcome me back without charging me for the redo. Everyone is super nice and the salon is exceptionally clean. Their pedi massage chairs are probably the best ones I've sat in as well, it actually gives you a proper massage. Definitely coming back I hope this salon stays there forever! read more
