I insisted I needed the service today, and pointed to another tech who was finishing up. She hesitantly accepted to do my Pedicure. No Apology, No Solutions offered. Just bad service. I was looking for reviews online on google and here, and there is hardly anything available. So, I've decided to share my experiences here. Hopefully, they will be useful for someone. On Tuesday, I tried @ananekebeautysalon. I went there to get my Biogel manicure refill. They are in Yonge and Eglinton area. This place was recommended to me, and it had such good reviews on Yelp, and BlogTo. Plus, with a personal recommendation, I thought it was going to be my go-to nail salon. Maybe it's just my luck but this is not going to happen. I do not remember the name of my nail artist. Here is a list of things I didn't like. 1) She took forever to do my refill, literally over 1.5 hours. I don't do anything complicated on my hands. Usually, it's just a French manicure which I was getting this time. She kept messing up the white lines on top of the nails and redoing them. And then again. And again. And again. ‍ While I did appreciate the effort to get it right, this is the first time somebody had to redo several times half of my nails. By the end of it, I wasn't sure that the lady knew what she was doing. 2) The lady didn't file the edges of my nails properly. I didn't notice it in the salon, but I noticed it later that day when I was already on my way home. 3) She was doing such a bad job filing my nails and cut so much skin next to the nail bed on one of my fingers that it hurt for a few days. 4) On Friday, four days later, the white gel polish started chipping on several of my nails. This is ridiculous. This is biogel. It last forever and can survive alien invasion, nuclear war, and zombie apocalypse. This is the reason why I do it: biogel is the only thing that doesn't chip on my hands for three weeks. I don't know how this lady did it that it started chipping so early. Not a happy customer here. Sadly, after this experience I can not recommend this place to anybody. Please avoid it. ‍

Yelp reviews indicated that a shellac change is $25 which is reasonable. To be certain, I checked upon my arrival and was told that it was $25. After they started on my nails the person who appeared to be the owner added that it was $5 more to have shellac removed. Clearly, I should have been told that on the phone or upon arrival; I couldn't very well rip off the foils and walk out at that point. TVs are set up for people having pedicures but not manicures. Modern décor. Same English-themed clock as my nail place in London! Was there a sale? Most people will be able to find something that pleases among the shellac colour selections. Some are OPI. I didn't catch the name of the technician who worked on my nails but she did a great job. The woman next to my having her nails done commented twice that mine looked great. The tech was very thorough. They don't use machines to remove shellac, only acetone. Neither the tech nor the owner spoke perfect English so you may need to repeat yourself. This is a small price to pay to live in a country that welcomes immigrants and supports them in their attempts to prosper. No tax if you pay cash. Not sure whether they accept credit cards.

The second time, the shellac lasted maybe nine days. The third time I went, I got my eyebrows done. I felt like the worker was a bit rushed and didn't take her time to pluck the small hairs remaining on my brows. Luckily, they accomodated me, at first by saying they could do a pedi then, if time permitted, a mani. The most surprising thing I noticed is that all the technicians working at the time were male, which was a great sight! The guy who did my pedi was great, as was the massage chair. Then, soon into the drying process, a lady approached me to tell me that she could do my manicure. So I walked over and (here's where it gets dicey) the guy handed her the fan that was being used to dry my toes, said something in a language I didn't understand and that was the last of the fan. The girl working on my nails was great as well... until 30-40mins later, when my mani was done and she said I could go. I touched my toenails, which had been air drying for the duration of the mani, and found them to be a little "gummy" in texture. I expressed this concern, as it felt I was leaving my fingerprints in my pedi. She then ran her own finger over it, said she would put something on it and I would be fine. So, she put a thin clear liquid over it and said I would be okay to put my socks/shoes back on immediately. As the professional, I trusted that she knew what she was talking about. Cut to HOURS later when I get home, take off my socks... and most of my pedicure with it. My socks stuck to my half wet pedi. Now this place is not super convenient for me to get to - a half hour train ride. So after calling to complain, and getting excuses before an apology, I was asked if I could make it within 5 minutes. I let her know I had just gotten home after a long day and I would try to be there within 2 hours. Now when I got there, it seemed the responsibility was placed back on the original guy who did it when it wasn't his fault at all. He was great, and I apologized and tried to explain to him. He told me that's why he gave her the fan, and I let him know the fan didn't even make it to the table. I'm glad the situation is rectified, despite inconvenience on both my part and the part of the pedicurist. Two star review if not for him.

This time, I decided to try out extensions since my nails were on the short side and got the Pink and White. The receptionist is friendly, however, not the best at explaining the differences between the different types of artificial nails like bio gel, UV gel, acrylic etc. As a first timer, I really had no idea what to get and just opted for the Pink and White, which is at a mid price point ($45 pre tax). My nail tech was fast and friendly. You can tell that all of these manicurists were good at their job, however, most of them don't seem to talk much. It's eerily quiet when the music is on pause but maybe they're just focusing on their work. Also, because it was my first time getting fake nails, I had no idea that they would hurt..Not sure if this is normal, but the long nails also make it hard to do certain things like writing and taking out contacts lol. All in all, I would come again but maybe skip the nail extensions. They look good but dont work practically.
